(I know I don't post here much, but i do read most of the posts each day - honest.)
I just want to say that I think the way Villa has been run over the past few season's since MON left is shocking.
We've seen terrible appointments, GH, AMc, and even PL clearly doesn't have a clue what he's trying to do here either.
We are a selling club and have run out of any players of value left to sell! The fans couldn't give a $h!t about the finance side of the club. We just want to see quality players singed and not sold on afterwards. All this crap about reducing the wage bill has ruined the club (long term). Football cannot be run as a business. The team must be continually improved or you are going backwards!
If he (Lerner) isn't prepared to spend money then why the funk is he still here?
We should force Lerner out the door. If Villa lose the next game I think the fans should turn on Lerner, Faulkner and Lambert. They should be thrown out of the club by the fans.
People say that we can't afford to sack PL. But if we (the general public) were rubbish at our jobs I'm sure we'd be sacked on poor performance and would not receive any sort of compensation for it.
PL should resign, he isn't doing any more than what any of us could do if we were manager. Ok we wouldn't be able to motivate the team (being a nobody) but neither can he at the moment so he's no better than someone with no football management experience.
He's says they practice set pieces everyday yet we still can't defend against them . Surely that sums up his coaching ability.
We honestly might as well be manager-less at the moment because he is being paid to funk up results for us at the moment.
The way this club has been run, Aston Villa deserve to be relegated. We've had the warning signs of relegation for three seasons now, yet they've depleted the team even more! :S
We're in such a mess, one or two no player won't be enough, we need a whole new first eleven. We couldn't even beat non-league opponents at the moment.
I am so angry at the moment. I'm glad I don't live near B'ham to be able to go to the games because I think I would lose it in the ground! I'm normally a clam and logical person but when things are going wrong on the pitch and the management are in denial amount the whole situation really winds me up.
For those who go to the games, please do not just sit there or walk out early. Please actually chant your frustration!
Aston Villa - prepared to go down!

I feel your pain chippy , nice post.

Good post. Agree with nearly all of that except when you say fans don't care about the club finances. We do. We are realists (well most of us anyway) and we accept that we shouldn't spend money we don't have. The problem is not the cutbacks. It is that we shouldn't have got to the stage of needing them in the first place. Blame MON all you want, it is Lerner that gave him free reign to spend as he saw fit.
-
Good post, Chippy. Not everyone will agree with this but I do believe that Lerner has a plan for the club - "managed decline".
I believe that he and Lambert have agreed that relegation is probably unavoidable but they are prepared for that. The intention is that they will start from scratch in the Championship using young, cheap players and work back up - like he did at Norwich. I go one step further, I believe that this strategy includes potential relegation to League 1.
Question is, are we the fans going to put up with that?
-
More likely lerner is fooled by lamberts ridiculous comments how we dominated the game last night, and all this dont worry , we wont go down , we will be fine stuff.
O neill seemed to fool him too - maybe lerner is just a fool with money.

'Money we don't have'. Who knows what money we do have? There's all this fiddle of Lerner lending money to the club. How can that be right? All of these things don't have to be an either / or. I blame Lerner, O'Neill and Lambert. Lambert's attitude of late has been shocking and we don't know what Lerner's attitude is.

I agree jon, but dont forget faulkner too.

As a season ticket holder I utterly feel the misery and pain but whilst the club has undoubtably been run badly the solution is not to continue throwing money at it. Lerner has invested a huge amount since his arrival it's just that the money has not been well spent. MON signed too many players that weren't good enough on grossly inflated salaries that led to 85% of income going on pay. This was an unsustainable situation and is the reason we're now in trouble struggling things.
The club has been badly managed by Paul Falkener, Charles Krulak and Robin Russell. They failed to control MON and compounded this by making dreadful managerial appointments. Lambert is way out of his depth and needs to go....but so should the senior management team.
Like it or not, football clubs are a business. It puts Doug Ellis's stewardship in perspective.

surely there are another 50 threads where you can bitch and whine about the club!
i read your post, i think you talk alot of bollocks and to then say 'can you have a go on my behalf please as i dont go' is hilarious!
in fact, after 6 posts i think you are a nose and there are others on here who should know better!

Well said Rutski he's probably been down there as much as lerner.
-
Please dont say the club is a disgrace we are one of the most prestigous clubs in the world..
The people who own, run, manage and play are the disgrace......
-
I see where you're coming from and agree with a couple of your points, but disagree with a number of them.
The fans couldn't give a $h!t about the finance side of the club.
I can’t agree with that. I don’t want to see Villa go bankrupt.
We're in such a mess, one or two no player won't be enough, we need a whole new first eleven. We couldn't even beat non-league opponents at the moment.
One or two players in the right positions would improve us immeasurably. I don't go with the idea that every player we have is rubbish.
We should force Lerner out the door. If Villa lose the next game I think the fans should turn on Lerner, Faulkner and Lambert. They should be thrown out of the club by the fans.
That doesn’t work though. Lerner owns the club.
People say that we can't afford to sack PL. But if we (the general public) were rubbish at our jobs I'm sure we'd be sacked on poor performance and would not receive any sort of compensation for it.
Nice idea and I agree, but that’s not how football works is it? He would get compensation. We won't change the entire way the game works.
For those who go to the games, please do not just sit there or walk out early. Please actually chant your frustration!
How about people support their team however they want, be it chanting their frustration or just sitting there?
-
can you not see this post is a wind up!
too many have pitchforks in their hand and arent actually reading what is being written but because it is an anti lerner, lambert villa post think, i agree with that! lock the thread and vent your spleen on any other of 50 threads!
-
That doesn’t work though. Lerner owns the club.
You're right, we can't force him out, we can't voice our disapproval at AGMs. But we can make damn sure every time he decides to watch a game (from home, no doubt), all he hears is "Fuck off Lerner". We should leave him with no doubt that it's time for him to try to sell, and piss off.
-
'Money we don't have'. Who knows what money we do have?
That was a hypothetical statement in response to the claim that fans don't care about club financesLambert's attitude of late has been shocking and we don't know what Lerner's attitude is.
We know he isn't putting hand in pocket when we need it more then at any other point during his reign. We all know that no investment this window is condeming us to relegation. I think that tells us enough about his 'attitude'.
-
i think lerner thought lambert was the right man for the job as did most off us,but it has turned out he his out of his depth in the prem his stubbern attitude to persist in playing players who are now were near prem standards, but lerner must get over hear and sort it out

The title of this thread disturbs me.
We are not a disgrace, infact we are a bloody great club with fantastic supporters, a great stadium and a fucking great history.
We are Villa and we will never be a disgrace.

i absolutely agree with this. When i die, i will be buried in a Villa shirt and no careless chairman/dodgy manager will alter that. Were hurting but we are a great sporting institution, NOT a disgrace, Teams can be a disgrace, players can be a disgrace, the club - never.

There's an element of contradiction in there (not addressing the wage bill would DEFINITELY ruin the club), but I agree for the most part.
A football club, should -if it communicates with fans at all- be talking about ambitions on the pitch. What we aim to do, and how we might do it.
When the talk turns to wage bills, making Deloitte top 20 and all the other shite we've heard over the last few years, the game is up.
I get that the wb was a key focus, maybe THE key focus after MON. But we didn't need to keep on hearing about it -and telling the world about it. The name Aston Villa has been synonymous with cost cutting and 'sell to buy' since 2010. Even when we've actually spent some money (as we did in the summer) it made little difference. The damage to our image has been done.
-
Absolutely KG. It's like the board has purposely set out to downgrade the image of the club to one that is here to just make up the numbers, and we won't be doing that for much longer. They have taken away the one thing that keeps every fan going.Hope. We are being punished for their sheer incompetence and they should hang their heads in shame

bang on. Hope is what it is all about for nearly every club except the chosen few. Us Villa fans know our ceiling the way the game is at the moment. But.... At the moment we are even having hope taken from us. Then it all becomes pointless.
-
I have to agree with some of the responses Aston Villa FC will never be a disgrace , we are going through a tough hard time and all of us true fans are hurting but AVFC will never itself be a disgrace

Exactly, it's in your blood and we all live and breathe Villa
-
If we could get about 25,000 of us fans to put £6,000 into the pot each I think we may just be able to buy him out.

I refer all of the above to my sig.

i think he would take 150 million not sure we should give him that much

First post from a long time Lurker. I’ve been reading H&V since the internet thing started (for me) – sometime in the 90’s.
I’m 50 & started following “The Villa” when they were in the 3rd Division (thanks to my Grandad). Andy Lochead was our No 9 & Bruce Rioch our best player. We’d be on ITV Star Soccer with Hugh Johns twice a season if we were lucky. It was all Derby, Blues & Coventry in those days.
As the mid 70’s arrived we started improving & moving up the leagues. My best Villa memories are from this time. 1975 – 79 were the best.
We won the league & European Cup in the early 80’s. Then we went down the shitter for a few years. HDE doing what RL is doing now – balancing the books. SGT arrived & turned things around & we were good again. He left & we were pretty shit again. BFR made us good for a couple of seasons, as did Sir Brian & John Gregory. Even DOL had one good season. MON had 3 good years. GH & TSM didn’t work at all.
We have always been an inconsistent club. The pendulum swings from one extreme to the other - season by season sometimes.
Throughout (most) of this period HDE was in charge. OK, he wasn’t there during our most successful period !
But he kept the club on a reasonable financial footing (& made a bit himself !). Looking at our finances over the last few years, I think RL is adopting this approach. We can’t spend more than we can afford or we’ll go bust. The team isn't good enough & he's not going to overspend to rectify it. Changing the manager won't make any difference.
I want Aston Villa to survive – whether it’s in the Prem or Div 3. I don’t want us to go into liquidation & have to change our name.
So folks, I think we have got to accept we’re entering one of our shitty periods. It’s not going to be nice but people of my age have been through it before. It makes you appreciate the good times !
To be honest, I think we’ve been spoiled – this is the longest period in my supporting lifetime that we haven’t been relegated.
I hope it doesn’t happen, but if it does, I won’t change my allegiance & start following Utd, City or Chelsea !
I think Mr Woodhall summed it up in his introduction from “One Season to the Next”.
Sorry about the long post, but I’ve been saving it up.

I've had to had a lie down recently with all going on! I've insulted one or two Risso/fletcher again I apologise it got all too much.. Lets judge manager and owner at 11pm on Thursday. I just don't see changing manager being right. Lambert hasn't become shit overnight.. He has a battle on every game and we as fans just have to pick ourselves up and go again... Aston Villa will never be a disgrace.

Nice post hoppo- emotions have been running high, we are all angry and upset about our plight but i agree we are in this together - for better or worse - not sure i agree about the manager but lets hope we can pull it around.
To coin a phrase on tuesday we will dust ourselves down and go again.

Absolutely, I'll never be anything other than proud to support this fantastic football club.
Players, managers and boards will come and go but AVFC will live forever!
-
steve 22 is absolutely correct. I am nearly 50 also and i can agree with his sumarism. We have never been consistent.

You need to keep calm as it's not just 'Risso/Fletcher' throwing brickbats, and if you go off on one every time somebody has a go at the club, your keyboard will set on fire.

He hasn't become a bad manager - and I'd actually back him to do well in a few years. Though maybe not with us.
He has a pretty major blindspot when it comes to the defensive aspect of things though. He did at Norwich too, seemingly. They were probably the worst side we faced defensively at VP last season.
The element of surprise and their general forward momentum helped them a lot -they were a club on the up (thanks in no small part to PL) and their players were busting a gut to prove they belonged in the top flight.
Our players -with a few exceptions- are not lower division (though some might end up there by the looks of things) triers desperate to make a name for themselves. Different mindest, different approach required.
What surprises me most is that Karsa and Culverhouse had a reputation for doing their homework on the opposition last season. Our weakness from set pieces was obvious even then, as was our tendency to concede late. If they'd watched us, they'd know that. Not addressing that (in fact, if anything it's got worse) is neglectful. Neglectful enough to be losing jobs over.
