Available Friday night.
-
Uh-oh
-
Don't worry folks, the board think the championship will be a cake walk next season.
-
Just RESIGN now. TSM Jnr
-
Well that was fun.
-
Can you think of a worst midfield in the time you have been watching - I am 44 by the way to put the timeline in context ??
-
Complete and utter fucking shit. Right now Villa can just fuck off.
-
Going down.
-
Disgusting result. Disgusting perfomance.
-
Can you think of a worst midfield in the time you have been watching - I am 44 by the way to put the timeline in context ??
No.
-
Well, that was fun.
-
lambert has to resign, he has to
-
Something has to change.
-
If he has any respect he would fucking quit he sure as shit doesn't deserve a pay off
-
The most depressing thing is it was all so predictable.
-
The club just seems rotten from top to bottom right now.
-
I'm slowing going from giving Lambert every chance to succeed to not being arsed if he goes.
-
Glad I couldn't watch this one by the looks of it. Let me guess, we flattered to deceive with some nice forward moves and conceded a couple of sloppy set piece goals and generally looked poor after conceding?
A lame duck manager, a team devoid of confidence, an owner who doesn't seem to know we're nailed-on certainties for relegation?
What an utter, utter steaming bag of filth we currently are.
-
If we mark the players out of ten for tonight would the total actually come to ten between the 11 of them ?
-
Once again evidence that this team will go down without investment. Also a nice example of how we will not be any good in the Championship. The manager is embarrassing, the staff are embarrassing and the team are a disgrace to their shirts.
-
cant beat a championship team who were ordinary - micky quinn
I am so ashamed
-
Well, how many of us are surprised by that result?
-
something needs to change and quickly
-
Board not fit to run the club
Manger not fit to manage the club
End of.
-
New depths with every game. Sadly, I'm numb to to the pain of it now.
-
Don't worry. We've got a plan. You play a load of kids and lower league players and you turn into Ajax.
I can't take much more of this.
We are a laughing stock
-
Bollox to them.
-
i feel like a punch bag. weekend ruined again.
get him out
-
Lambert out.
For the 6th time in a month, we're the biggest joke in football. With a 2 legged semi final elimination to a side 3 leagues below us, and a record breaking 8-0 loss, this has to be the worst month-5 weeks of results in this clubs history.
Lambert must go, and it's time to make it very clear that Randy isn't wanted either.
The pound signs and the Ellis Out chants came when we were in situations nowhere near this bad.
-
No signings this window & a manager not able to get the best out of what we already got - no brainer for me!!!
-
Where is Aston Villa Randy and what the fuck are you doing to it?
Lambert, what has happened to you? Are you even in control of yourself?
-
Mr Lerner. Please, please just go. Please, just fuck off and go.
-
I honestly don't give a shit, it's so utterly predictable
-
We are a complete and utter shambles on and off the pitch. The club is spiraling out of control. Players, manager, coaching staff, CEO and owner are all out of their depth and I really don't know where it's going to end
-
LAMBERT OUT !!!!!!!!
players not good enough Manager not good enough
knocked out of cups by a 4th Division team and a 2nd Division side in a week
we are breaking the worse records every week
we are getting worse every week .
We are dire. Have you seen our 2013 results.
One goal in 6 home prem games.
I wanted him. I was wrong . LAMBERT OUT !!!!
-
I really don't think it would matter if mourinho was in charge with that squad..... Investment mr Lerner or time to explain strategy to fans
-
No wonder the game wasn't on TV. They knew there wouldn't be a cup upset tonight.
-
Can it get any worse?
I listened to Claridge on the radio, and even allowing for the bias there were some really dismaying vibes coming over.
Well done to those that turned up to watch.
-
Great news! Bent bumped up his transfer value.
-
They don't make me angry anymore.
-
I'm getting very apathetic about all things Villa at the moment and I'm losing more interest with each passing game.
-
Can you think of a worst midfield in the time you have been watching - I am 44 by the way to put the timeline in context ??
I'm 53 and no I can't
-
If anyone thinks we will dominate the Championship.......think again. We have just lost to a very average Championship side. Pathetic performance from a team that is broken and a club that is breaking our hearts
-
I've had enough. Pointless saying anything as this season is finished - nothing but relegation to look forward to.
-
lambert has to resign, he has to
no, he's part of the bright future...
-
Worse than all of the hammerings in the league and getting knocked out of cups by shite lower league teams is the knowledge that the board's plan is to do absolutely nothing.
-
We are a laughing stock and hard to believe how lambert is still in charge - utterly pathetic .
For god sake GO lambert!
-
Very depressing listening on Radio Five.
One shot second half. No shape, passes going astray. Didn't want to win the game.
The manager is 100% culpable. He has to resign, mainly from the embarassment.
I've never seen a worse two months of games / results in the 26 years I've been following them.
-
lambert out
lerner out
-
If Lambert does not resign, no other club will ever respect him enough to give him another chance.
-
I really don't think it would matter if mourinho was in charge with that squad..... Investment mr Lerner or time to explain strategy to fans
With respect, that's not true at all.
Lambert has been a complete disaster and must leave the club tonight or we won't win another game this season.
Out, now.
-
The whole club from board room level down is rotton to the core. I have always been a Lerner fan but is now obvious he does not care.
Our club is an utter shambles. Why is there not one Villa man or even football man on that board?
So angry right now.
-
I'm being pitied by fans of other clubs, they're all out of cheek and one-liners, they feel sorry for me. It really hurts this, i'm just stunned by this season, you couldn't make it up in your worst nightmare.
-
Lambert out.
Agreed 100%
-
Worst midfield ever, worst defence ever. Worst owner ever, worst manager ever.
The club is on its knees. Cheers Randy!
-
I am trying not to rant....
-
Don't worry. We've got a plan. You play a load of kids and lower league players and you turn into Ajax.
I can't take much more of this.
We are a laughing stock
It's worse than that people actually pity us now.
-
How can we get it so wrong so many times.
-
cant beat a championship team who were ordinary - micky quinn
I am so ashamed
You have to see them in real time to realise how bad they are- Claridge
-
If anyone thinks we will dominate the Championship.......think again. We have just lost to a very average Championship side. Pathetic performance from a team that is broken and a club that is breaking our hearts
Maybe our luck will turn when I start drinking alcohol again in 7 days time. I'll need a month's worth - last time I had a beer was v #Wigan - ~And That Was Bad Enough.
-
All too predictable, from surrendering the lead, to conceding a goal from a corner, to conceding a late goal. Same problems almost every bloody game. Oh and embarrassed yet again. We are in a shocking state from top to bottom.
-
I really don't think it would matter if mourinho was in charge with that squad..... Investment mr Lerner or time to explain strategy to fans
With respect, that's not true at all.
Lambert has been a complete disaster and must leave the club tonight or we won't win another game this season.
Out, now.
the useless bell end has already said he wont walk away
-
We go again, can't say too much because I didn't watch but it sounded shit, were on our knees just pull the fucking trigger
-
I'm way past caring much any more. I genuinely felt nothing tonight. Not a single emotion apart from a wry smile as the 2nd goal went in right now.
No-one who runs the club can see it, or wants to address it, so I can't have an emotional attachment any more.
Our club PR man can see the green shoots of recovery. I'm sure they were all out for the world to see last night.
-
Aston Villa - dead club walking
-
We cannot beat a poor Milwall side commentator laid it on the line when he said the Villa youngsters are just not good enough. Clark, Bannon etc just reserve grade. Lambert has to review his obvious policy of building a young side and sign a couple of Veterans or we will sink like a stone.
-
I'm being pitied by fans of other clubs, they're all out of cheek and one-liners, they feel sorry for me. It really hurts this, i'm just stunned by this season, you couldn't make it up in your worst nightmare.
The head office where i work is in Portsmouth and THEIR fans are sympathetic.
-
Can you think of a worst midfield in the time you have been watching - I am 44 by the way to put the timeline in context ??
I'm 53 and no I can't
Trump that - 55 and neither can I
-
Add me to the list of people who wanted Lambert and now admit that they were wrong
-
I really don't think it would matter if mourinho was in charge with that squad..... Investment mr Lerner or time to explain strategy to fans
That team should be good enough to not lost to Millwall and not get knocked out by Bradford.
Yes we need players . But Lambert has to take a lot of the blame.
-
I am trying not to rant....
Let it out, you will feel better my friend.
-
Two reasons why Lambert will be in charge for our next game. One is Lambert wont want to lose out on a lottery sized payout for being bad at his job, two is Lerner wont want to have to payout a lottery sized windfall to Lambert to sack him. We stuck in a catch 22 situation in where the right thing wont happen.
I've never been embarrassed to be a proud Villain but this week has got me damned close.
-
Villa fans telling the players to fook off basically by the sound of it.
-
This sums up my feelings of the last few weeks:
-
Aston Villa - dead club walking
We're not wakling, we're crawling.
-
I doubt we've had a worse 5 weeks or so in our history.
-
Can you think of a worst midfield in the time you have been watching - I am 44 by the way to put the timeline in context ??
I'm 53 and no I can't
Trump that - 55 and neither can I
And I'll trump your 55 with my 59 - and I can't either
-
Utter tosh, no desire, no heart, n more importantly no clue.
It's so bad its not even funny.
Beaten by a team who just got rid of its 2 main strikers.
-
The hate mail postbags will be bulging come Monday morning at Bodymoor Heath.
Hope you're thick skinned Loserbert.
-
17th in the league , won 4 all season worst goal difference in the league knocked out of cup by lower league clubs comprehensively .......what cant speak cant lie
-
No suprises was there we are dead men walking
-
We are a laughing stock and hard to believe how lambert is still in charge - utterly pathetic .
For god sake GO lambert!
Just be a temporary change a sticking plaster if u like, the whole thing is rotten to the core. Lerner has done a fucking real number on us! Stick your pub re furbs, flags, free coaches and scarfs up your arse and fuck off!
-
Aston Villa - dead club walking
Just a matter of waiting for Andrew Lincoln to come along and put us out of our misery
-
Don't worry. We've got a plan. You play a load of kids and lower league players and you turn into Ajax.
I can't take much more of this.
We are a laughing stock
Still in the lambert camp ?
-
Add me to the list of people who wanted Lambert and now admit that they were wrong
im also sorry to admit i was completely wrong also
lambert is a disgrace, im so sorry for wanting him here
-
What hurts, is the lack of dignity to our collapse. We are just a fucking shambles with no pride.
-
Apparently, the fans waved away the players when they came over
-
Plan for Tuesday : Stay in the Manor and turn the TV off
-
I doubt we've had a worse 5 weeks or so in our history.
Get ready.
-
I doubt we've had a worse 5 weeks or so in our history.
We haven't lost a league game for a fortnight
-
Add me to the list of people who wanted Lambert and now admit that they were wrong
im also sorry to admit i was completely wrong also
lambert is a disgrace, im so sorry for wanting him here
And me. And I still like what he wanted to try and do.
But right now there is no doubt it is completely failing.
-
I'm way past caring much any more.
Are you me?
-
I've supported Lambert, but even with limited resources you should be able to play with some pride, some fight, and some organisation, and avoid making the same mistakes over and over again. Even TSM could make us hard to beat. The last 5 weeks have seen us suffer more humiliations than I can remember in the previous 45 years.
Bad timing or not, this manager looks fucking clueless and he has got to go.
-
Villa fans locked in pen outside ground in sleet.Really feel for them
-
Omnishambles
-
Apparently, the fans waved away the players when they came over
All they deserve is a two-fingered salute.
-
In terms of FA Cup "shocks", possibly the most predictable and unsurprising FA Cup shock there could be.
And it hurts. >:( We've been kicked out of the League Cup at Bradford following a dismal performance at their ground, and Millwall in the FA Cup. Bloody Millwall.
Please Villa - wake up! Do we really want to end up in the Championship and end up playing the likes of Millwall every week. And on that evidence, we would either be stuck there ad infinitum, or worse, end up going down another level.
-
Brian Doogan has said we're not that bad so that's OK then.
Don't forget to snap up your tickets for the Newcastle game.
A football club with no direction aimlessly and pathetically whimpering into the Championship.
-
The nightmare continues..........
-
Time up, please have enough self respect and go, I trump the 59 and go 65
-
We cannot beat a poor Milwall side commentator laid it on the line when he said the Villa youngsters are just not good enough. Clark, Bannon etc just reserve grade. Lambert has to review his obvious policy of building a young side and sign a couple of Veterans or we will sink like a stone.
On the whole. they aren't fucking youngsters. They just aren't very good.
-
Add me to the list of people who wanted Lambert and now admit that they were wrong
Ditto.
Proud history, bright floodlights. Nuff said.
-
I'm being pitied by fans of other clubs, they're all out of cheek and one-liners, they feel sorry for me. It really hurts this, i'm just stunned by this season, you couldn't make it up in your worst nightmare.
The head office where i work is in Portsmouth and THEIR fans are sympathetic.
we are stil Solvent that is something
-
Lerner has done a fucking real number on us! Stick your pub re furbs, flags, free coaches and scarfs up your arse and fuck off!
this is no time for sitting on the fence, be a man and tell us what you really think
-
Awful again. Another goal from a setpiece - they can't defend to save their lives.. We're sleepwalking into the championship if we stick wth "My Job's safe" Lambchop. Sack Lerner's stooge and give ourselves a fighting chance, because if you think this is bad, just imagine next season when the summer firesale leaves us with Hutton, Bannan and Ireland to get back up with. We'll be going the other way under Lambchop.
-
No suprises was there we are dead men walking
what was the fans reaction after ? Come in and see me for a chat
-
Add me to the list of people who wanted Lambert and now admit that they were wrong
im also sorry to admit i was completely wrong also
lambert is a disgrace, im so sorry for wanting him here
Me too and I apologise. The man is an utter disgrace. lose to Bradford, lose to Millwall, bottom'ish of the Premier League and quite the worst team in it at the moment. Newcastle will wipe the floor with us anyway on Tuesday so let's roll the dice now. Anyone, me included, would be better than this twat
-

Danny Kelly on talk sport taking calls from despondent villa fans who seem to have given up like alot of you on here. And on Lambert. We dont just give up. We are a big club. We have to get behind team for Tuesday and keep going. Up the villa !!
-
adkins for 6 mths please . or Mrs f**king Brown
-
I'm being pitied by fans of other clubs, they're all out of cheek and one-liners, they feel sorry for me. It really hurts this, i'm just stunned by this season, you couldn't make it up in your worst nightmare.

LAMBERT OUT !!!!!!!!

Same as . I was wrong - get out lambert!
-
Bless the bloke on the phone on WM. I think he's trying to set the world record for saying "you know".
-
Imagine how confident Newcastle are seeing our last two games, with their new signings.
It's going to be painful.
-
Can people get rid of their user names based on this twat?
-
Well, at least we can concentrate on our fight to finish in the bottom 3.
-
I hate to bring up his name again but at least Deadly would have taken some action by now, right or wrong. The problems at our club start right at the top, blame Lambert all you like but the club is leaderless at the top, no army can win a battle without a commanding officer and ours is stuck in front of a tele in the States.
-
Danny Kelly on talk sport taking calls from despondent villa fans who seem to have given up like alot of you on here. And on Lambert. We dont just give up. We are a big club. We have to get behind team for Tuesday and keep going. Up the villa !!
Thanks you Lambert Jnr.
-
Not the end of the world, we don't need replays or cup runs when we are fighting to stay in the Premier League.
Tuesday's match is vital, we need to forget about the last few weeks and get behind the team.
Forget about sacking the manager or him resigning.
-
Apparently, the fans waved away the players when they came over
All they deserve is a two-fingered salute.
I'm glad they should be fucking ashamed of themselves. Lerner is a moron, Lambert is clueless but they're professional footballers and should have some pride but they show nothing.
-
The nightmare continues..........
....and you try pinching yourself but you cannot wake up.
Surely Paul Lambert should either be invited to resign, or dismissed.
-
Can someone just take a 'Thank You' banner to the Toon match?
-
Hold on to your seats folks...the drop is a long way down.
-
I'm getting tired of all this youngster stuff it's not like they are all 17, they are just crap, most of them would struggle to get into any other prem team, even Reading!. Westwood is a great potential Weimann, but they need to be playing with quality players instead of poor mediocre players . The young kid at Southampton is 17 . That's a youngster! Clark could make it too but we really have put too much on his shoulders
-
First game as child in 1946. Never given up before but enough is enough or even too much. Absentee owner, incompetent chief executive, manager with no plan, team with no shape. Hardly a recipe for survival.
-
We go again, pick ourselves up n go again. Got a massive game on tuesday, cant fault the effort, we go again.
Not heard lamberts press confrence just guessing what he said!!!!
-
Lambert resigns - Adkins comes in:
Does Randy then loosen the purse strings? - Doubtful
Why would he change his mind? - To honour the 'masterplan'
Would Adkins then do any better with the current squad? - No
That's why they'll be no change. I fear for our future.
-
Danny Kelly on talk sport taking calls from despondent villa fans who seem to have given up like alot of you on here. And on Lambert. We dont just give up. We are a big club. We have to get behind team for Tuesday and keep going. Up the villa !!
But it does get a bit tiresome when it appears the only ones that give a shit are us fans. Sooner or later the fans/supporters will start to adopt the same attitude as the owner/manager/boardroom staff etc. These are very dark times.
-
Can it get any worse?
I listened to Claridge on the radio, and even allowing for the bias there were some really dismaying vibes coming over.
Well done to those that turned up to watch.
Just finished listening to 5 Live and the feel totally demoralised from the commentary, and allowing for any London bias, it was obvious we were totally crap again in the second half. What does Lambert do in the dressing room at half time, he must be the worst manager in all the leagues at motivating his players.
The lack of any threat in the second half and the poor quality of performance from what the commentary indicated, there can be no doubt Lambert has to go. We will be relegated and Lerner has to look at this manager and his total inability to raise HIS players against lower league opposition twice in a week should be enough. The owner may have said there's a restricted budget but Lambert spent £20m on his theory of young players from lower leagues and has completely failed even when playing against opposition they have been playing against last season.
Its all down to Lambert who is out of his depth in this situation. Don't know who would come in his place, but it won't change next year with him in charge. If Lerner won't sack him he should do the honorable thing and leave.
-
Pick yourselves up and we'll go again on tuesday
-
It's like a nightmare, isn't it? It just keeps getting worse and worse.
-
Circle the wagons time. A win on Tuesday and it doesn't look too bad.
-
I hate to bring up his name again but at least Deadly would have taken some action by now, right or wrong. The problems at our club start right at the top, blame Lambert all you like but the club is leaderless at the top, no army can win a battle without a commanding officer and ours is stuck in front of a tele in the States.
Totally and utterly agree, Lerner is ultimately culpable, but Lambert has been shown to be out of his depth, the lieutenant is obviously not up to the job either.
-
Not the end of the world, we don't need replays or cup runs when we are fighting to stay in the Premier League.
Tuesday's match is vital, we need to forget about the last few weeks and get behind the team.
Forget about sacking the manager or him resigning.
The point you are missing is the utter cluelessness of the abysmally coached players, who keep repeating the same very basic errors in every game, in every competition.
-
Danny Kelly on talk sport taking calls from despondent villa fans who seem to have given up like alot of you on here. And on Lambert. We dont just give up. We are a big club. We have to get behind team for Tuesday and keep going. Up the villa !!
Let us vent! We will be there...
-
I have seen tweets about Vlaar shaking his head at the villa fans????
-
Not surprised. And, frankly, not bothered.
I remember 86-87 and thought I'd never see it as bad as McNeill and that turd of a season again. How wrong I was.
Lerner is a joke of an owner, but, after the last week, even he must be starting to realise that the least of concerns is just the one relegation.
-
Most aren't young they're early 20s and frankly they're not good enough, nowhere fucking near good enough.
-
The sad thing is I'm struggling to give a shit anymore. Lerner doesn't seem to care. Lambert out of his depth. Players not good enough. Another humiliation in a season of so many
-
Circle the wagons time. A win on Tuesday and it doesn't look too bad.
Eh?
It looks fucking shit.
-
Circle the wagons time. A win on Tuesday and it doesn't look too bad.
There's only one thing wrong with your comment....
-
Well not bothered about the cup buit sounds like another abject display. We seem absolutely shot.
They best come out all guns blazing vs Newcastle...at least this time we will be the underdogs....
-
Can you think of a worst midfield in the time you have been watching - I am 44 by the way to put the timeline in context ??
I'm 53 and no I can't
Trump that - 55 and neither can I
And I'll trump your 55 with my 59 - and I can't either
64, and I'm struggling to think of a worse one.
I'm 76 and certainly can't
-
Bannan, Clark (at CB), Herd, Lichaj, Bennett, Delph - none if them are good enough for the top flight.
Unfortunately, our brain dead board have decided to stake our whole future on them.
Fucking idiots, too stubborn to think they are anything but right.
-
Stuck oit in the freezing cold waiting to get out.
What a load of shite.
We are a very poor Championship side, Lambert is clueless.
The only entertainment was the Villa trying to have a go at half time out back. Apparently the Villa have caused quite a bit of grief on the way down.
The team causes me great grief.
We are down. Sack Lambert, keep him, it makes no odds.
-
Like I said in the other post I knew we were in for a world of pain under Lambert after I saw the pre season game at Forest, we were all over the place and wide open.
Since that day records have been broken, all for the wrong reasons.
I thought McLeish had broken me but no, there was even worse to come.
We are stuck with this bloke mates, so get ready for even more pain...and yes I'm 57 and this is the worse 'midfield' I have ever seen too, but we don't really have any midfield players to pick from, so it's hardly surprising.
-
I have seen tweets about Vlaar shaking his head at the villa fans????
He can piss off in that case, he's useless anyway, he just looks a mite better than the rest of our shit defence
-
Its like the players are playing to get him sacked
-
Can you think of a worst midfield in the time you have been watching - I am 44 by the way to put the timeline in context ??

I died three years ago and neither can I. Or does it just feel like that?
-
Well Billy McNeill mk II you just as I thought you'd scraped to the bottom of the shitness barrel, you managed to dig deeper. Well done Sir, quite a feat.
If you had an ounce of respect for the club, the only thing to 'go again' would be you. And quickly.
-
I said weeks, months ago that this is the worst Villa team I'd seen. Much worse than 86/87. But I'm willing to believe this is the worst Villa team in history. Steve Sims would have fucking waltzed into this team.
-
just got a text off a mate whos there
Police have just announced ' theres too much home fan activity to let the Villa fans out yet '
-
Has he said we go again and stick together yet
-
Danny Kelly on talk sport taking calls from despondent villa fans who seem to have given up like alot of you on here. And on Lambert. We dont just give up. We are a big club. We have to get behind team for Tuesday and keep going. Up the villa !!
Thanks you Lambert Jnr.
I'd love to have your optimism FP, I just can't bring myself to it atm. Too many kicks to the bollocks this season to pick myself back up again just yet.
-
Like the fact that IF McLeish was reasonably successful, it didn't matter because we'd be playing shit football and never get higher than mid table, Lerner has to realise that the players Lambert's brought and the tactics he plays are totally inept. He too has to be sacked now.
Get somebody in for 3 months and give them some money to spend on wages, with a bonus if we stop up.
-
Isn't it, "We pick ourselves up and go again."?
-
Bannan, Clark (at CB), Herd, Lichaj, Bennett, Delph - none if them are good enough for the top flight.
Unfortunately, our brain dead board have decided to stake our whole future on them.
Fucking idiots, too stubborn to think they are anything but right.
Agreed.

whos fault we are fighting to stay in the Prem league and I love the FA Cup . I have never seen us win it. This is not good enough
-
Fuck me . I think he has lost himself at the moment you know. He has been cosumed by the size of the job and just come up way, way short.
-
As a 60 year old season ticket holder i have never ever in 40 years seen a team and manager like this shower, my 4 year old Grandaughter has more tactical knowledge than lambert and his coaches, i was one who thought he would be good for villa and i admit i'm sadly wrong, but also the senior players have a lot to answer for none have the b**** to fight . And it is now about time all villa fans started taking there gloves off with Learner and get him out
(if possi

Make you wonder have kept either McDonald or MacAllister in charge where we'd be now. Not in this bastard mess, that's for sure.
-
So relieved I didn't pay any attention to the match til finding out the result about a minute ago. I don't feel half as angry or pissed off as I would have from watching/listening/following in here.
I feel mildly numb to it all. The inevitable happened and all I can think is "meh! Who cares.".
-
Stuck oit in the freezing cold waiting to get out.
Absolute respect to lot of you!
-
Circle the wagons time. A win on Tuesday and it doesn't look too bad.
Can't believe the optimism given the circumstances. Don't see based on this week's games how we have the quality to beat the Bar Codes.
-
Make you wonder have kept either McDonald or MacAllister in charge where we'd be now. Not in this bastard mess, that's for sure.
McDonald who saw us hammered by Newcastle with a much better squad?
No thanks.
-
I doubt he's even giving the players a rollicking in the changing room.
-
Isn't it, "We pick ourselves up and go again."?
Either way, I'd love someone to question that. We haven't won(not including Bradford for obvious reasons) in nearly 2 months. Where exactly is this go again business? we just keep failing. This isn't aimed at you Leeg by the way!
-
If we win on Tuesday things look very different. Aside from some obvious candidates, the players are good enough, but they need confidence and that partly comes from leadership, something Lambert is meant to excel at.
Drop the three at the back malarkey, send Bannan to the gulag, fire up Bent and be ruthless about anyone not giving 100%.
Even if we go down, I'd still rather see us fight to stay up.
-
How on earth have we become the laughing stock of English football in less than 5 weeks !? I have Stoke and Blues fans at work who feel sorry for me ffs
Think now relegation is a certainty unless players are bought in on loan. Lambert has to take a lot of the blame but he won't be fired.
Will be there on Tuesday, its in my blood and I don't like to waste my season ticket - doubt there will be more than 25000 others though and can't blame the casual supporter for staying away.
-
I don't care if the forms say you own it, Mr. Lerner - this is our club you seem to be willing to demotion.
-
Fuck me . I think he has lost himself at the moment you know. He has been cosumed by the size of the job and just come up way, way short.
I thought that on Tuesday night. His post-match statements were so full of meaningless manager-speak it was shameful. I think he's way out of his depth.
-
Steve Sims would have fucking waltzed into this team.
The prospect of Steve Sims waltzing anywhere is too ridiculous for words however you are right. And Larry Grayson could mince into our defence while he's at it.
-
Its like the players are playing to get him sacked
The players haven't liked the last 3 managers.
-
Well, at least we can concentrate on our fight to finish in the bottom 3.
Yes that's the spirit! But its to stay out of bottom 3 ! Premiership survival is more important when our team is like this. Newcastle next and Wigan last game of season -its still in our hands!
-
If anyone thinks we will dominate the Championship.......think again. We have just lost to a very average Championship side. Pathetic performance from a team that is broken and a club that is breaking our hearts
Being fair the game tonight doesn't have any bearing on how we would perform in the Championship, if it comes that's a long way off and both our squad and theirs would inevitably change. If we went down and could keep the majority of the squad I think we would be amongst the top six favourites to get auto promo.
-
I have seen tweets about Vlaar shaking his head at the villa fans????
Id like to see him shake his head for a corner
-

For some reason I kept thinking about Keegan's last match in charge of England.
I suppose it was the crushing slow inevitability of it all.

Bring back Steve Stride and Abdul Rashid. Too many 'suits' at the Villa at present.
We need background people who are passionate and know about the club.
Not some idiotic jobsworth from Norwich who has no clue on how to run a football club.
-
I have seen tweets about Vlaar shaking his head at the villa fans????
He can piss off in that case, he's useless anyway, he just looks a mite better than the rest of our shit defence
Yes, he is useless. Most overrated player at the club, and about as concrete as blancmange.
-
Diabolical. Final straw for me, Lambert has to go. It's not all his fault but things have gone too far and I don't think he can turn it around.
-
First goal a corner, second was 3 on 1 in our favour and we couldn't defend either.
On the radio, they made out that Danny Shittu was some sort of defensive colossus having the game of his life. I say again, Danny fucking Shittu!
What worries me the most is that this is exactly the type of opposition that we'll have to contend with week in, week out in The Championship. It's a frightening prospect.
-
We come back to the fact that with a reliable left back a competent centre half and a quality midfielder we would have a very decent side, if i can see it and most supporters can see it why cannot the owner and C.E.O see it, i don't believe that there is no money, i think they have bought into Lamberts young and hungry ethic, they should be demanding that he buys good players to fill the weaknesses. I am more angry at the incompetence than the players.
-
I said weeks, months ago that this is the worst Villa team I'd seen. Much worse than 86/87. But I'm willing to believe this is the worst Villa team in history. Steve Sims would have fucking waltzed into this team.
would David Hunt? he was bad
-
Fucking set pieces; we've had nearly three years to sort this out and ... I'm lost for words.
-
Every time I think "it can't get any worse", it goes and gets considerably worse.
I can honestly see us not winning a single league match between now and the end of the season.

Not with Lambert in charge

Peter Withe has tweeted that villa need a manager with passion for the club not a Di Matteo.
Clear that Villa people in the game can see what our useless chairman can't, i.e that he has led us to an unacceptable place.
Check that again! I read that too and replied to it. It's not Peter Withe but 'Peter white' !!!!!

The Powderpuff Puskas? He'd have fucking ballet danced into this pile of shit.

Hey listen everyone, there are only so many times that you can crack your head against a brick wall before realising that you're going to end up with a big lump on your head.
We've been here too, too many times.
Lambert doesn't give a shit, Faulkner doesn't give a shit, Lerner doesn't give a shit. If they did, even on their 'protecting the brand' terms, then they'd spend £10-15 million to save the £60 million they're about to lose which they are not prepared to do.
So we're left with no choice but to misquote Stanley Kubrick. How I learned to stop worrying and love the drop.
Now I've learned to love the drop, now I've learned to love the drop.............Complete and utter fucking shit. Right now Villa can just fuck off.

If players like Delph get in, then the team of our first league success in their current state (i.e. buried in the ground) could get a game.

Ditto. I'll carry on going to home games, with the pathetic hope things will get better. Whilst knowing they won't.

He did it. He said it again. "You pick yourself up and you go again." The big repetitive nincompoop.

That game tonight followed the script we have replayed for the majority of the season mate!
It hardly changes

He said the "pick ourselves up and go again comment"
Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
-
PL has actually just said 'you pick yourselves up and go again'
Jesus fucking Christ. I've had it. Can't take this shit anymore.
-
Right now a David Hunt, Trevor Hockey, Bruce Rioch or Mark Lillis is exactly what we need
-
PL on talkshite - "we need some luck but we go again!!!!!!"
-
The ultimate problem is Faulkner. If he said to Lerner we need to change manager now - he has lost the dressing room.
What would Lerner say?
Who do you suggest?
And there is the problem. Faulkner is advising Lerner. He is the problem.
-
Lambert says we need a bit of luck
Go away . youre football is shite you are out of your depth
No we need tactical nous, a good team and the ability to defend. It has absolutely zero to do with luck.
-
PL on talkshite - "we need some luck but we go again!!!!!!"
It's just incredible.
-
Still stood here waiting to be let out sick to stomach that i know there are Villa fans back in Brum still jumping up and down in delight that we're out the cup and haven't even got a replay to bother about. A few in the pre-match thread got their wish.
-
This is getting beyond a fucking joke, 43 years of watching my great clu and dont think I have ever felt quite as low as I do at the moment. Lerner appears as if he dont give a toss anymore, Lambert was my choice of manager, but his tactics have been appalling at times, the last 35 minutes on Tuesday are still etched in my mind. Tonight he brings on Bowery instead of Agbonalhor, surely he can play 12 bloody minutes
-
It's a good job(for Paul Lambert) that our owner/chief dipshit is clueless about football-otherwise mr Lambert would be doing what i did earlier today...
Pick up my P45

Wanker wanker wanker

Its like the players are playing to get him sacked
Correct. Darren Bent certainly is. I would say to a man the respect for Lambert is non existent. His abrasive, stubborn manner has pissed the seniors off to the point they don't want to play for him, yet the kids he's trying to replace them with aren't good enough.
It's a recipe for disaster. See AVB and RDM for proof.
We're going down unless something changes.
I will never point the finger at finger at Randy Lerner for making a bad choice in appointing Lambert, but I will forever hold him responsible if he doesn't sack him and we get relegated.
-

Message to Paul Lambert, we don't need a bit of luck we need three good players bought. It's simple stupid.
-
Can you think of a worst midfield in the time you have been watching - I am 44 by the way to put the timeline in context ??
Put it like this, Mark Kinsella would walk into our current midfield.
-
Just saw this on Twitter
Ron vlaar appealed to the away fans for support and was booed with chants of 'fuck off villa' from villa fans , peak
-
Still stood here waiting to be let out sick to stomach that i know there are Villa fans back in Brum still jumping up and down in delight that we're out the cup and haven't even got a replay to bother about
Are there fuck.
-
Danny Kelly on talk sport taking calls from despondent villa fans who seem to have given up like alot of you on here. And on Lambert. We dont just give up. We are a big club. We have to get behind team for Tuesday and keep going. Up the villa !!
The league is all we've got. UTV!
Did not play everybody tonight.
Hope we are buying somebody.
Really hope.

Not me kidder.
Want the FA Cup as I can say I've seen the lot!
As I said to Ads - respect for your efforts away from home.
Holte Enders in the sky coming out of the radio was the highlight of the evening

Ha ha, alongside Leonhardsen?

We're a sinking anchor. Lambert's Lemmings.
-
We are a laughing stock and hard to believe how lambert is still in charge - utterly pathetic .
For god sake GO lambert!
Just be a temporary change a sticking plaster if u like, the whole thing is rotten to the core. Lerner has done a fucking real number on us! Stick your pub re furbs, flags, free coaches and scarfs up your arse and fuck off!
That's just a joke my friend, RL stumped up another 22 million this summer, the 6th highest spend in the PL. Lambert decided to spend that on 8 players who may have promise but have been shown up for what they are this season - inexperienced. I am not blaming them, they were never going to turn up the chance to join a great club like Aston Villa. Paul has to take it on the chin his decisions have led us to being where we are. If the Chairman is happy for him to continue the experiment then we all have to take the pill and swallow it. If in the end we do slip out of the PL then we will all have the choice of whether to continue to support the club. For what its worth I am a ST holder of 11 years and won't renew if we go down but will go to some games only.
-

Don't knock Sims and Hunt, they got us out of Div 2 back in the day.
-
Fack me 16 pages for a post match thread less than an hour after the game has finished!
I would love to think this is the nadir of Lambert's hopeless reign but he'll be here for Newcastle and probably beyond so I'm going to have to try to become immune to this annual hummilation every time we play a fecking game.
-
Right now a David Hunt, Trevor Hockey, Bruce Rioch or Mark Lillis is exactly what we need
hey you forgot John robson ;)
-
Its like the players are playing to get him sacked
The players haven't liked the last 3 managers.
Therein lies the problem. Same players week in week out showing no desire and putting no effort in. Fair play to Houllier, he sussed them almost straight away and would have had them out the club had he stayed. As it is, they've been allowed to linger around for another two years draining wages for little return.
-
PL on talkshite - "we need some luck but we go again!!!!!!"
It's just incredible.
He is started to say TSM rubbish
-
I would have thought that a real manager, with some sort of self respect and dignity, would offer his resignation after the month or so we have had even if they didn't think it would be accepted.
We have neither a real manager or a real man.
-
Okay we last won in league Dec 15 a great win at Liverpool. We won our last match despite not winning tie and we got a point and were 2-0 up @ WBA. Moaning on here isnt gonna make anything better if Villa had a nice win Tuesday and/or we sign a couple of players I think different attitude would be shown. What i'd hope is a supportive attitude is shown regardless till the end of the season. It may actually help the team to have a good vibe. All the negativity is mis placed. What will be will be trust that our players will learn. Up the villa
-
I didn't think it was remotely possible but he's worse than TSM. To call this shit would be flattering
-
Just saw this on Twitter

And that's when it's terminal. I don't blame Vlaar he always seems to try hard, but now everyone is pulling in different directions.
-
Lambert Lerner and failkner get little stick at villa park and probably think fans arent against them- its time all 3 were given both barrells - incompetent tossers.
-
If Villa were an animal they would do the kindest thing and fucking shoot us
-

Hunt was dreadful. Sims wasn't much better.

I wish the General was still around because in military terms, I think we,ve called Broken Arrow on the whole situation & realise that after 3 years of playing at it we are now FUBAR
-
Great strikers . No midfield . No defence . Lambert you are a tit .
-
fernando you are really scrapping the barrel there. the club is spiralling out of control. there is no doubt in my mind we'll be bottom in mid Feb
-
Anybody who still thanks that wanker lambert is the best option to keep us up is certifiably insane.
-
What type of contract is he on....is there No Clause in it for FUCK UPS...i be very surprised if he resigns, he wants to be pushed for obvious reasons.
-
Several reporters are saying that Lambert is refusing to answer questions from the Evening Mail's Mat Kendrick.
-
We keep saying "if we beat suchandsuch we'll give ourselves a lift"
We said it about Wigan, and got trounced 3-0 at home.
We said it about Bradford, "we cant lose over two legs to a fourth division side", and we did.
We said, "decent result against Milwall will help the confidence", and got beaten.
The sequence goes even further back. 8-0 at Chelsea. 4-0 at home to Spurs.
When does the good stuff start?
As far as I can tell, we have an utterly pathetic squad, a leadership pinning all its hopes on youngsters who are quite clearly nothing like good enough, and the whole thing is spinning out of control.
Meanwhile, our relegation rivals are strenghtening and starting to show spirit, and we're sitting on our hands doing absolutely fucking nothing.
It's criminal, and in my mind, Lerner has now proven he's not fit to run a fucking Christmas Club let alone a football club.
-
did anyone other than Bowery get a yellow today?
that's normally a barometer of "fight" in a team when things aren't going their way.

Several reporters are saying that Lambert is refusing to answer questions from the Evening Mail's Mat Kendrick.
It'll all end in tears.

Maybe he has and it was rejected.
-
due to our awful league form we should have been treated tonights game as not important. So why not make sure no one who is likely to play on Tuesday was involved tonight. Should have played Warnock and others plus youth team to make up numbers to give all our key players a rest. It's not a approach I like but needs must.
But no, we have now involved them in yet another demoralising defeat and for some, Tuesday is 4 games in 8 days.
-
It's criminal, and in my mind, Lerner has now proven he's not fit to run a fucking Christmas Club let alone a football club.
Perhaps he'll chuck himself off a ferry.
-
Not being behind the team will only contribute to the down fall of our great club. Winning on Tuesday and this will be forgotten.

It's criminal, and in my mind, Lerner has now proven he's not fit to run a fucking Christmas Club let alone a football club.

But he'd have Lambert leaning over the side telling him to pick himself up and go again.

Time to go.
-
Not being behind the team will only contribute to the down fall of our great club. Winning on Tuesday and this will be forgotten.
Yes, yes, we keep saying that, though, don't we?
Win against Wigan and it'll be better. And we don't. Go through against Bradford and it'll give us a boost. And we don't. Win against Milwall in the cup and we can get a bit of confidence. And we don't
We deserve what we are going to get - relegation, that's what happens to teams who hardly ever win football matches.
I can put up with shitness if i have to, but knowing that people who are supposed to know better are sitting by doing absolutely nothing about it makes me want to punch something.

For those of us that have seen relegations in the 60's and 80's this is feeling very familiar. I keep thinking 'maybe' but deep down I expect us to finish bottom. Next year, who knows?
-
I missed out on a 180 playing darts tonight. I'd take my cat managing us to survival right now. Oh and using Lambert as the Ochè would of landed me that missing 180! I'd jump on the before mentioned Ochè (Lambert) nail the a 180 and send the Ochè (Lambert) and my cat to Tuesday's game and take a Bowery hat trick.."and your back in the game"....

We keep saying "if we beat suchandsuch we'll give ourselves a lift"
We said it about Wigan, and got trounced 3-0 at home.

Villa 0 Wigan 3 That was a shocker
villa 0 Soton 1
throw two goals away against baggies and get a lucky point against Swansea

Not being behind the team will only contribute to the down fall of our great club. Winning on Tuesday and this will be forgotten.
Yes, yes, we keep saying that, though, don't we?
Win against Wigan and it'll be better. And we don't. Go through against Bradford and it'll give us a boost. And we don't. Win against Milwall in the cup and we can get a bit of confidence. And we don't
We deserve what we are going to get - relegation, that's what happens to teams who hardly ever win football matches.
I can put up with shitness if i have to, but knowing that people who are supposed to know better are sitting by doing absolutely nothing about it makes me want to punch something.
me too, have you decided what yet?

Now is not the time to turn on our own, nobody is enjoying the shite we are in. But turning on our own will not help our cause.
Lerner MUST know the we are not going to pull this around without some help. If he doesn't he's deluded. A sign of madness is repeatidly doing the same thing & expecting a different outcome, we keep on putting out a team that it not good enough for the division we are in but hoping they will somehow come good.
We need players NOW.

Seems like an absolute age ago... On a night out on 20 December I told a friend who was home from England that we had finally turned the corner and had a decent shout if winning a trophy, top ten and Europe next year!
I look a right fool now.

Rubbish.- wake up and smell the roses pal!
sorry what is actually rubbish? Not clear as my comment is valid and makes sense. Would you not have a change in attitude and be feeling more positive with a few signings and a nice win v newcastle? You so would! I also dealt with facts. We actually won our last match at home and only lost once this week! Yes we lost tonight lets not go overboard.
-
Stop panicking you bunch of pussies. We'll be fine once Vlaar is fit again....oh hang on...
-
Still stood here waiting to be let out sick to stomach that i know there are Villa fans back in Brum still jumping up and down in delight that we're out the cup and haven't even got a replay to bother about. A few in the pre-match thread got their wish.
Get a grip.

This is the point though, Bradford and the league cup final was our big turning point for an age, what now? Delusional, out of ideas and out of his depth.
-
Seems a lifetime ago. What we've been through since then has killed that spirit
-
We were giving the players dogs abuse at the end, telling them to chuff off.
Vlaar was clapping and then holding his hands out apologetically.
I felt a bit bad to be honest. Its not the effort that's lacking, ots extra quality and a manager who has the first fucking clue how to organise them.
-
Not being behind the team will only contribute to the down fall of our great club. Winning on Tuesday and this will be forgotten.
the fans have supported the manager and team for the last 6 months and it hasn't made any difference. things have got massively worse. Lambert has ruined the squad and there is no way that shower are going to pick themselves up and bounce back

They don't make me angry anymore.
The most damning put down of all.

"If we beat......". Remember saying that an awful lot 26 years ago. Struggling to see any way that a similar outcome is not to be repeated. Worse still, can't envisage a repeat of the season which followed that. I shall take my seat on Tuesday with a heavy heart

I would rather the money spent on sacking the manager & his coaches and paying for a new manager went on the players we need.

We got beat over 2 legs by a 4th tier team - lets not go overboard?

I don't have a problem with Vlaar particularly but so many of them don't deserve to be near a Villa squad.
-
The club is on its arse and I see nobody, but nobody in control who shows an iota of ability to pick it up again.
-
Lets face it, we're just shite. Anyone who says otherwise must be as deluded. We have kids playing a mans game and an absolute clueless loser in charge. I can't take anymore of this garbage. Laughing stock.

Also you can't change the past and Lambert is quite right you pick yourself up and carry on. Look forward to the newcastle match and see what the boys cans do. Talking of getting rid of Lambert and his staff is nonsense for me. A draw and there would have been comments of not needing an extra cup game. Our cup finals are ahead of us. Lets look to beat the teams around us

I don't think anyone as the right to tell anyone how to act, especially the poor sods at Millwall tonight. I'm glad the players got dogs abuse.

Doing nothing now could be classed as wilful negligence by this 'management' masquerading as custodians of our club.

Beating Newcastle is highly unlikely. Given Lambert's latest comments signing a couple of players is even more unlikely. Have you heard of Pollyanna?
-
He's just been interviewed. If anyone is unsure as to what he's said, find a tape of the previous 25 post match interviews he has given.
-
To be fair most of us expected Villa to lose (hoping against hope that we wouldn't), so nothing has really changed. It wasn't an upset as Millwall were favourites to win, so the match went as the bookies expected.
The problem is that for the rest of the season Villa are going to be the underdogs in most matches which basically doesn't bode well as that means Villa will have to play above average to win games, which at this moment in time is an impossibility!
-
Our players don't know how lucky they are. With the exception of Benteke I doubt any of them will go onto play for bigger clubs. They really are doing a great job of fucking this up. I'd love to go down to the training ground and let rip, or even stick my boots on and get stuck into them.

Coz being a follower of the villa I'd imagine you thought it was a fantastic result and had good feeling about our team and club. Do correct me if im wrong though i seriously doubt it.

Fernando, mate, I can only assume you are a younger supporter. Us older guys have seen this all before. It'll end in tears.

I apologise in advance but your optimism is just coming across as annoying at the moment. Fair at for looking on the bright side but even the optimists and glass half full out of us are completely down and dejected. I'm 31 and have never experienced anything this bad. I can't see a way out of it as I'm sure most cant and one bloody flag waver stood on a hill of body's does not mean the war is not over. Being realistic this team will not get out of this. Newcastle will beat us unless something changes

That's the ownership's fault. I don't have a problem with most of the players, they're just not good at all. If I were to select a Premier League team I think Guzan, Vlaar, Benteke, Weimann or Bent would make it. Obviously not in the same side necessarily but they'd be involved. Westwood will make it and probably Lowton, but other than that no thanks.

Well i admit we are not an amazing team and we are struggling. And i understand others seen the relegation thing but i wont give up ever ! Its very sad we re not champions league challengers no more but Lambert needs our support right now !

I like the fact at the top of the page, next to page 21 ( which we are currently on ) there is an option to " go down ". Very apt !!!
I ve even just laughed at a " downfall" spoof. No doubt posted by blues fans.
I ve truly fell out of love with this club. I hate the fact I have. But I have.
No other club would put up with these results. I was no Doug fan but I now crave for him !!!
God I m depressed
If Barry Bannan refuses a photo tonight in Après I'll kill him !!!
That's all.
-
Just because Fernando is feeling more optimistic and supportive than most of right now can we not all gang up on him giving him stick please.
-
Right I'm out of here before I let rip at this chap for being as optimistic as I wish I could be. H&V is the only thing keeping me sane as its the only place I know people feeling it as bad as me. If I'm going to get banned for abusing another user I'd rather save it for someone doing something worse than being optimistic.
We've now got a whole weekend of fa cup games to look forward to
Up the villa. The real villa, not this bollocks

My better half has sent me some pictures of our road under a load of snow.
Its going to be a long way back to Manchester and its getting harder and harder to bother coming down.

not my place to tell other fans. I live in London and made choice not to go more because of personal safety issue. Respect to those who went!

I think cutting them in half and sending him the 'bright future' half would be better.

And Millwall were fucking awful as well.
God cannot help us.
-
So we lost a game after a goal was scored near the end. We were heading for a replay from the sort of display that we have seen countless times in a cup from a Villa team as long as I have been watching and that is about 40 years. Our players are a little fragile at the moment more so than I have ever seen another Villa team like this. However we are NOT in the bottom 3 and not too late to turn it around. It will take just one result one spark to set us on our way. This could happen on Tuesday or the following match.
Don't lose the faith and hope and turn up on Tuesday to support the boys. uTV.

Lambert has refused to take questions from Mat Kendrick from the mail. It would appear the mail open letter hasn't gone down too well. This off the back of will he won't he attend the PC on Thursday and it doesn't appear he is actually "thriving"
Happy if he is sacked or walked now. Enough is enough

This would be a great '£-sign' protest. Everybody bring their scarves with 'Bright Future' crossed out.
-
Anybody who still thanks that wanker lambert is the best option to keep us up is certifiably insane.
Hear hear!
-
Mind you, I do remember when we were playing in the lower divisions and (as a youngster) not giving a royal toss. As long as Villa beat Chester I was happy.
Devils advocate question warning :
As long as the club exist and as long as we win does it matter what league we're in? Wouldn't you still feel happy?
Hypothetical choice......
10 wins, 16 losses, 13th place in the PL...... Or
28 wins, 4 losses, league champions in championship?
which would you prefer, but which get most pleasure from?

That'd be fine if it was in isolation. If we'd lost one game unfortunately then yes I completely agree. Unfortunately our games seems so be in the same horrendous cycle of despair. I support Villa and I want us to win and nothing would make me happier than for Lambert to turn it round. It's just he's shown nothing to suggest he can do that.

His body language tonight said a lot. He cut a sad figure, uninvolved, no energy or passion. We got the now customary chant of "You're getting sacked..." from the opposition fans but this time it looked as though PL believed it
-
I think it's time for the Mail to dig out the Villa badge torn in half picture.
-
I think lamberts a gonner!
I bloody well hope so, just how bad does it have to get for him not to be
-
Night all- tomorrow is a new day , lets hope it sees the end of this Really Dire Manager.
Fancy going to bed and no one asked how your knee was today.
-
Well i admit we are not an amazing team and we are struggling. And i understand others seen the relegation thing but i wont give up ever ! Its very sad we re not champions league challengers no more but Lambert needs our support right now !
tell that to the freezing fans making the trip home tonight
not my place to tell other fans. I live in London and made choice not to go more because of personal safety issue. Respect to those who went!
Safe as houses mate. Police are incredibly well organised there.
Biggest issue is being kept in 30 minutes to get the train back to London Bridge. That and the tripe on the pitch....
-
My better half has sent me some pictures of our road under a load of snow.
Its going to be a long way back to Manchester and its getting harder and harder to bother coming down.
Drive carefully pal, I'm working tonight in South Manchester and it is pretty bad. Even worse at home in Oldham, where there has been over 8" of snow since 5:30pm
-
Am i right in thinking our clueless manager created another piece of history in our clubs long history tonight. Surely he must be the first manager to be knocked out of two cups from clubs in lower leagues in less than a week
-
Just got back. Absolutely disgraceful performance. Shittu had an unmarked header from a corner just before the corner they scored from. Can't learn from their mistakes in the same game, let alone between games FFS. Most of our play went back to Given or was just hoofed up to Bent/Weimann despite neither being target men. Shittu had them both in his pocket all game (he was probably MoTM). Bannan coming on made us even worse. Lambert took ages to make a change, then just made a like for like substitution. N'Zogbia was the only player in the entire team trying to make something happen. Just awful. Worse then anything last season. Oh and stating the bleeding obvious, their lot are scum. Wasted 6 minutes gobbing off and throwing bottles at N'Zogbia. Was it racist abuse? I thought at the time it was, judging by his reaction. To top it all off, we were kept back for something like half an hour by the police.
-
Night all- tomorrow is a new day , lets hope it sees the end of this Really Dire Manager.
Interesting capitalisation... RDM?
Oh Eastie, you tease.
-
Clutching at straws to be positive:
Good away support considering how shite we are ( though not very vocal in 2nd half)
The players knew their positions and were more disciplined than on Tuesday
They really are trying. I am utterly convinced they feel the pain too. It's our club but I do feel for the players as you can see they all need a week or two, maybe longer, out of the firing line
But....
They are utterly lacking in confidence. I wouldn't be surprised if one of our youngsters emulates Lee Cattermole and actually starts blarting during a game before the end of the season
Vlaar is not some effing messiah and hasn't even shone v lower league players this week
Lambert seems unable to arrest the slide and unless we have 2-3 new players - anybody heard of the words LOAN SIGNING if money is tight FFS ??!!- we are going down
Scratch that, we will actually finish bottom, not just go down
This sounds surreal - and I only had 2 beers at Millwall - but we are categorically worse than under McLeish.
-
Re the match, I thought the sentence from Steve Claridge was very telling, "you can't quite grasp it until you see them live". This was my sentiment after I saw the monstrosity that was Tuesday.
Being so down on confidence means players go hiding but not once has Lambert shown he is capable of rousing the troops and organising the shambles we see unfold before our very eyes.
Fair play to Risso, he sussed Lerner and Lambert out ages ago. I've been on the optimistic side of the fence but no more. This is worse than pathetic and nothing more than a back to basics approach will do for starters.
As things stand we are absolutely fucked. I would have more respect for Lambert if he swallowed his pride and brought back Warnock and Hutton, if only in an attempt to try to shake things up a bit.
May I please ask everyone if they have bet on us being relegated ? I haven't yet but I think I will do, as i cannot see a way out of this.
-
Just saw this on Twitter
Ron vlaar appealed to the away fans for support and was booed with chants of 'fuck off villa' from villa fans , peak
Phil, I definitely never heard that chant. A fair amount of booing and angry comments at the end but I never heard that chant.
Doesn't mean it didn't happen of course.
-
Having witnessed that fucking shambles tonight I have two points to make.
Aston Villa-fuck off you arseholes and stop fucking up my life.
Millwall- There's a reason the old bill hate you and shaft your club, it's because you're a bunch of racist cuntfucks who deserve to be banished from football.
-
They're a joke aren't they?
Chucking bottles and making monkey chants at Charlie. ******.
-
I think lamberts a gonner!
Do you know something we don't...?
No

back from the den.
first of all, the majority of the away fans were fed up, lots of gallows humour, but i think the expectation is we'll be back at the den next season.
as for the games itself, very poor, but i'm glad we don't have a replay. n'zogbia was the only player who looked like making anything happen. bannan's passes were either backwards or misplaced. wiemann cut a frustrated figure.
their first goal, danny shittu header from a corner, about 2 minutes after he'd just won another header from a corner which went slightly over. their second goal, header smacks against the crossbar, falls kindly and he taps it into their net.
millwall fans revel in their reputation. throwing bottles onto the pitch all through the second half. chanting "you're just a town full of pakis", spending the 19th minute giving wanker symbols to the away end.
policing was efficient. kept in for 40 minutes or so at the end. didn't see a single millwall fan, except in the ground.

Paul Lambert said Villa will "take their medicine and go again" after his side's FA Cup defeat at the hands of Millwall.
Villa took the lead through Darren Bent before Danny Shittu headed the home side level before the break.
John Marquis put the London Lions into round five with just two minutes remaining.
But Lambert insisted there was no time for the team to feel sorry for themselves.
Lambert said: "It's not great, but you have to keep going.
"You take your medicine, pick yourself up and go again. There's no way you can lie down.
"I don't think we deserved to lose it, I didn't see that coming.
"We went 1-0 and conceded a goal from a corner again. It's individual errors that are hurting us at the minute.
"You've got to live with that, you've got to be prepared to be hurt in the penalty box.
"It's not been great but we had a lot of the ball. It's a game I thought neither team was going to win and I thought it was going to a replay."
Lambert felt his side bossed the game but he was frustrated to see yet another set-piece goal come into play during the match.
He added: "I was worried how they were going to react after the other night but they went and took the ball and gave it another go.
"But you can't defend set-pieces like that.
"We bossed it really, with the possession. It's individual errors that are costing us on set-pieces and the second goal was just a crossed ball and we should deal with that.
"I thought we showed grit. I thought we dominated the game and I never thought either team looked as if they were going to win it towards the end."
Lambert rested Christian Benteke and kept Gabby Agbonlahor on the bench with one eye on the big Barclays Premier League clash with Newcastle on Tuesday.
He added: "The lads have played a hell of a lot of games and we've not got the biggest of squads. You have to watch what you're doing.
"You can't make too many changes but the Premier League is the most important thing."
Lambert faces an anxious wait to see the extent of Fabian Delph's injury, after the midfielder limped off in the first-half.
-
We did yeah.
-
The sad thing is there's not many didn't expect that result. The problem is higher up than Lambert - just a monotonous and continuous litany of awful footballing decisions. Totally risk averse and showing less confidence than the team.

Fucking right they did, big time. Vlaar came the closest holding his head in his hands and every other player got a round of boo's as they tried to clap, i thought i'd seen it on Tuesday but tonight was a tipping point.
-
I'm trying to think of an away game I've been to where our fans have given the team more stick than tonight.
They deserved it.
-
I keep thinking we've hit the bottom and we'll see a reaction, but we haven't and we don't.
We really need an international break or something to give the players a chance to regroup. The flurry of fixtures since the Chelsea game hasnt given them any opportunity to get their shit together.
-

Enjoy the demo tomorrow, at least you'll see a bit of passion.

We made Danny Shittu look like a world beater.
Danny F*cking Shittu.
-

They deserved it.
They deserved it, and they got it. And there is a lot more getting to be got before this show is over.
-
Paddy Power have us evens for going down and 5/1 to be bottom
Sounds shit but this is easy money :-(
-
Just got back, that was shit.
It was like going back in time to the 80's when the fans are kept segregated for over half an hour after the game before we were allowed out.
Just about topped off the night.
-

And have a banner pointing out that Millwall fans are racist eejits
-
The most depressing thing is it was all so predictable.
This in a nutshell. I wasn't in the least bit surprised by the result and I am past being angry when we lose. i'm just getting resigned to it and hoping it doesn't depress me too much to have an impact on my life. F%*king Ba"*ard Villa.
-
Havn't seen the managers comments after the game yet, but no doubt it's along the lines of "we pick ourselves up and go again".
Well i have only missed three games this season and i won't be going again for a while.
-

I had a really shit week career-wise. I was hoping villa would get a smile on my face Tuesday night.
At least I have my new girlfriend and she is a star for coming to watch the semi-final with me.
-
Fuck me sideways, they've had my money for 10 games this season, well - no more! Every time I watch them play it's like someone's thrown a turd in my coffee. I just love being held in a pen for 40 minutes after being served up that dour shit on a freezing ass night.
Delph looked up for it and was making the moves until he got injured. Weimann cut a frustrated figure up top as he battled in vain against our occasional route 1 musings and the Zog tried to make things happen. No other positives. A chaotic mix of route one and crab football, individual error, piss poor marking at the back post, lack of organisation and looked like a half hearted sunday kickabout. I lost count of the amount of times Given or Lowton or Bennett kicked the ball into touch while we were in possession.
This has been the display to finally turn me into a relegation certified, Lerner hating, Lambert bashing believer. Hey Paul - if you want a guy to kick a ball sideways for 60 minutes I'm your man and I wont even ask for £10,000 a week, how about it? You know what I mean Bannan, you diminutive, crime scene fleeing, super tennants drinking, elven pixie.
-
Nearly one in the morning, just home from the game.
Where can I start?
I followed Villa down from the first division, through the second division and into the third division, home and away and that performance tonight was as bad if not worse than any of that period of our history.
It seems an odd thing to say but some passages of our play tonight and the performance of some of our players was so bad that if somebody had told you that they had been betting on themselves to lose you could easily have believed it.
In the Stalag Bermondsey compound in which were were held for nearly fifty minutes freezing our knackers off while the police racked up their overtime I became involved in a heated but friendly debate about the reasons why were are so shit. My point is that is not lack of confidence, it is not morale, it is not age, it is not lack of leadership, it is not tactics, it is not coaching - YES, all those things play a part but the rock bottom fact which is there in plain sight for us all to see is that the players are not good enough.
From that team tonight, the two with proven quality are Given and Bent and they both played stinking games, especially Given. They are good enough players but they both have personal issues with the manager, both having lost their automatic team sheet places, Given to Guzan, Bent to Benteke and neither of them gives a shit whether we win or lose. They are both on mega money and if the results get it up the arse for the manager so much the better. As for all the others with the possible slight exception of Weimann who could make a tidy player for a Premiership mid table club, they are simply not good enough. They may have been not so bad if they had been drafted into a better side with better players around them but they were not. We are a rubbish side playing rubbish football and anybody who thinks we will bounce back from the Championship, go and stand over there with those who think we are going to sign some players in this window.
As for the manager, he stood for ninety minutes in the corner of his technical area with his hands in his pockets looking totally bored. The only time he took his hands out of his pockets was when they went two one up. He did three or four quiet little claps as we lined up for the restart then put his hands back in his pockets. He behaves like a man who seems to have lost the will to live, let alone the will to win a football game or two. Perhaps he has suffered some deep personal trauma we do not know about, but in the absence of knowing anything about such a thing I conclude that he is in the same category as the players, namely simply not good enough.
I am off on an Aston Villa detox programme.

Randy, how's that Deloitte Top 20 list thing looking now? It doesn't matter what league we're in, so long as we're aiming for that list.

Judging by the reaction he's getting on here maybe it's not the Millwall fans he was worried about.
Good decision Fernando, you probably avoided being lynched.
And more power to your elbow.

Oh I hadn't and we have fallen down the list ,the poor performance on the pitch has had a negative effect as you can imagine.

His body language tonight said a lot. He cut a sad figure, uninvolved, no energy or passion. We got the now customary chant of "You're getting sacked..." from the opposition fans but this time it looked as though PL believed it
He would believe it as a few of ours joined in with it at the end. The team were roundly booed off at the end, with the booing and general nastiness getting worse as any players tried to clap our fans. I felt sorry for Ron Vlaar. He looked like he was trying to apologise and held his head in his hands. I hope it got to him and some of that shower got sorted out in that changing room. Lambert's post match press conference was dismal. We all roared with laughter when 'we go again' came out. He has seen how bad the Villa fans can be when Alex McLeish received dogs abuse at Norwich. Lambert has told us that he felt sorry for McLeish. He must be beginning to fear it happening at Villa Park, with the first episode being on Tuesday night.
-
I could and should have stayed another night out of the country, hearing about our defeat arriving at B'ham airport didn't hurt too much because after Tuesday I'm on the ropes I've taken the telling blow and now every additional punch has no outwardly effect but I know my insides are taking a battering.

Give me something to cling to, did anybody play better than average?

I thought N'Zogbia looked committed as did Vlaar.

I saw that so differently. I thought Vlaar was sympathising with the fans and in his way apologising to them.
There had been a few chants on f**k off from some fans at the players before he came over to us.
-
Oh shit..oh so much shit. What to say?
-
Not long got back myself. We were ok first half, did'nt look good second and it's another defeat and another knock to the confidence. N'Zogbia and Vlaar looked as if they really wanted it. The others were not good enough. It looks very worrying.
As for their fans, well i'm sure Millwall have worked hard over the years to rid themselves of their image but it all came crashing back down tonight. Launching several bottles onto the pitch, which narrowly missed a female steward a couple of times just because a free kick was awarded against them, will hopefully land them in trouble. The ref even had to get Danny Shittu (who had a great game) to go over and tell them to stop it. The wait after the game was annoying but necessary. Oh and the area around the ground is the grimest in football, a truly horrible place.
-
Well, what a fun night out that was; just arrived home, absolutely knackered and thinking what a mug I am. As usual, the best part of the trip was the social aspect before the game, in this case meeting up with a London Villa fan, who was born within 10 minutes of The Den and whose wife is a Millwall fan, and drinking in pubs around London Bridge before getting on the most packed train I've ever been on to South Bermondsey.
..and then the game started.
An absolute shambles, and Lambert must have been at a different game if he thinks we controlled it. Now, it seems, we have to take some medicine before we 'pick ourselves up and go again'; I think the Villa team had been on the medicine before the match. Tonight ends what must be the worst five week period since I started supporting the Villa nearly 47 years ago. Worse than 66-67, worse than 69-70 and worse than 86-87. We are going down and could well be back at Millwall on a Friday night before 2013 is out.
-

Interesting that not one copper went into that area where the bottles were being thrown from.
They remained upstairs, seemingly segregating the Millwall fans from each other (second half) and huddling round the exit (first half).
-
If you beleive the AVTV audio Weimann played pretty good as well. Didnt see the game myself I was at work.
-
Hell,it is hard being a villa supporter these days. Just woke up at 4 am and the first thing that comes into my mind is what a spineless load of wimps currently manage and play for our once great club.Worse still there appears to be no hope that it is going to get any better any time soon
-
We've been taken up the a**e unexpectedly but we go again.
We've been run over by a steam train but we go again.
After getting hit by a nuclear holocaust we go again.
We may be a weeble and we may wobble, but we go again.
Judas Iscariot's just kissed me, but we go again.
We have a one dimensional manager, but we go again.
Our owner is a sad twat unable to communicate but we go again.
Our CEO is just entering high school we go again.
blah blah blah blah blah.........
-
Hi first timer,
MON obviously knew something with Lerner. He has no money and income stream since he's sold his C/C company so hence the kids. We have to stay with them unless we get a new owner. If we don't we could go down. Got to support the young uns and help em through it. We'll get there just hopefully, but we do need to get behind the kids and our future at the moment. Concerned yes but we have a good crop of kids and now Gabby and Bent are back we will score goals so lets go for goals and free flowing football like the old days.
Yes call me daft but we can't defend at the moment so attack and try and support it.
Lambert aint no different than McLeish in playing style so we need him to realize we have to score goals 19 in the prem only 1 above QPR and then Stoke (who are as tight as a turkish wrestlers jock strap at home) and then Nore Itch. If we don't score we go down time for Mr.Lambert to take the goggles off and see the kids unleashed.
Okay I'm done seriously Bradford now Millwall cmon Paul pull yourself together and go for it.
Show me some Bannockburn or a kilt on match days but stop the defensive footy it's killing me.
-
Sorry to say but Lambchoker has lost it and lost it big time and the one thing I never want to hear from him again and its not "We go again", it is "I'm hurting to", No your not, you came to the Villa because (a) it was at the time, a step up from Norwich, ( maybe not now) and if you did a good job a bigger club would come and poach you, which of course you would go and (b) Tweedle dee and Tweedle Dumb offered you a better salary, the same as the mercenary players we have on our books, I have no doubt everyone you signed have increased their salary, never heard one of them say "I have taken a 20k a week reduction to play for the great AVFC.
The people who hurt are the ones who have to take dogs abuse because you and two others over the last 3 years have car wrecked a great club, they take it every day at work, every night in the pub, but they still turn up home and away and they pay for that pleasure, many of them going without other things they may need to be able to do that, there the people who hurt, not you a overpaid joke of a manager and also the group of overpaid could not give a shit professional and for only a short time Premier League wankers.
Thank you all for your efforts NOT.
-
Not being behind the team will only contribute to the down fall of our great club. Winning on Tuesday and this will be forgotten.
A bit like when we won against Liverpool it made everything all right.
yes mike like me and perhaps many villa fans after that result you felt we were on our way up?
Coz being a follower of the villa I'd imagine you thought it was a fantastic result and had good feeling about our team and club. Do correct me if im wrong though i seriously doubt it.
I think you're missing the point. It was a great result, it made me very happy. However, it wasn't a turning point was what I was saying, which was to reiterate earlier posts on the same topic. Don't come the better fan than you/you love it when we lose rubbish.
-
Just seen lambert on sky saying we dominated the game - fucking idiot.
-
Is Fernando Partridge really Seattle Villain?
Love the optimism but it is hard to fathom where it comes from
-

Heard claridge talking after the game "its only when you see villa play that you realise how bad they really are "

the only thing we dominated was the toilets at half time as they shitting them selves it gets no better Lamb chop
-
Are you actually watching the games Fernando?
We're shite!
-
We'll be there Tuesday and to be fair our support has been great but we are like a loyal dog lying by it's dead owner at the moment, while nothing is done it's pissing in the wind.
-
@JamesNursey: Final thoughts on #AVFC last night? They are in a worrying downward spiral. They created few chances & conceded again from a set play AGAIN!
-
Just seen lambert on sky saying we dominated the game - fucking idiot.
Other then the goal (which came out of nothing via good work by Weimann), we didn't create ONE chance in the entire match! Unless you count a long-range Bannan shot in the second half.

We lose Tuesday and it will be Bolton of last season all over again, fans will turn, villa know this, hence the "Lamberts safe" lines being trotted out. Shit on every level. Oh and can I just say I don't want RDM....

Just heard his interview on BBC breakfast sport.
I really could not understand a word he said, other than something about medicine.

Imagine the baggies fans if "agent Roberto" took us down. Keep him well away.

We did not dominate, we just hoped we would do OK but like the Bradford game we did not show any bottle, and I was really looking forward to this season.

There really has to be an end to this "get behind the lads" and "get behind the kids" and "get behind the manager" nonsense. The players and the manager and the support staff are all professionals. They are not children. They are not part timers. They are not amateurs or volunteers giving up their free time to make it possible for some young men to enjoy a game of football. They are professionals and they are very well paid. They live in fabulous homes, they drive fabulous cars, the have exciting lifestyles of travel, glamour, money and celebrity.
The fans, like me and my sons, squeeze our income, make sacrifices, infuriate our spouses, manipulate our work commitments, travel hundreds and thousands of miles at our own expense, endure fatigue and sleep deprivation, get ripped off (bottle of warm beer 500ml at £3.60 at Millwall last night), get treated like aliens intent on destroying the planet (ditto Millwall last night), endure uneducated mumbling of meaningless cliches or total silence when we need information, get snarled at by coppers with hate in their eyes while the opposition fans throw bottles at our players on the pitch, endure ridicule and mockery from other so called football watchers (I will not call them fans because they are not) and give up the chances to do other more rewarding and pleasurable things with our lives -ALL OF THIS in order to support the lifestyle of a goalkeeper on more money for a week than most of the supporters earn in two years, who cannot even keep goal kicks in the field of play and whose answer to repeatedly kicking the ball into touch and conceding possession is to hold up the palms of his hands and then proceed to do the same thing five minutes later. And players who clearly do not care if we lose, who lack fight, who lack technique, who lack self discipline, who lack composure, who lack mental strength, who lack love of their club, who lack team spirit, who lack pride, who will not communicate with each other, who will not or cannot be coached into the elimination of glaring errors in their individual and collective organization on the field, with a manager who makes Alex McLeish looks competent - all of whom as I write this are yawning and stretching themselves and wondering how they are going to spend some money today and which nightclubs they are going to grace tonight.
You ask me to "get behind" that stinking mess?
Anybody who does "get behind" the disgraceful shambles which is Aston Villa FC, and not demand a complete and total reality check from the very top of the club down, is, in my opinion as culpable and as guilty and as weak minded as the owner, the CEO, the manager and the squad.
The club needs to be purged but it is only going to happen when we are on the brink of relegation to League 1 and guess when that day comes who the people in power on bloated salaries at Villa Park will turn to for the inspiration to rebuild the club? You've got it. The fans.

It's the start of the lockdown,it started with the PR guy on WM.

Was talking about this last night in the pub. I personally wouldn't mind a season in the Championship change of scenery more exciting, A realistic chance of winning the league etc. Its the got to be better than watching what were getting at the moment. Going down will give Lambert at chance to makes a decent team without all the bullshit of the premier league.me personally I'd do a season in the championship and rip that team apart. At the moment I just feel everytime we play we are going to get beat. Can't ever remember being so down beat about things at VP.

Great post Brian....you hit the nail on the head there.

Well said Brian

2 absolutely brilliant posts from Brian in this thread.
-
Brian Green hits nail on head. Again.
Now all we have to do is get someone high up at the club to read them.
-
Brillant Brian, you have put into words what many of us who eat, sleep and drink Villa feel. If only the people who own and play for the club felt remotely the same.

f**king hell Brian , that's brought tears to my eyes. Great post .
-
A lot of Brian's post is about football in general, players milking the system is not going to change no matter how well we are doing,
No one supports the mess we are in, but then what do we do, just get behind them when things are great and we are doing well, that's a bit Man Utd for me
Supporting a football team outside of the top few rich clubs is a painfull thing, about 95% pain to 5% glory if your lucky, but for most the 5% good times makes it worthwhile
Football disappeared up its own arse, and it's not coming out any time soon,
older supporters still follow the game because that's what we've always done and won't ever stop, no matter how shit it gets because that's the addiction.
It's as low as I can remember at Villa at the moment, as bad as it gets, but the day will never come when we have 11 players on the pitch who arnt there for the money just the shirt, maybe one or two show a bit more passion, but it general football is now controlled by the money men, and that's not going to change
-
That . Sir should be posted on the dressing room wall for all to read and be read out to the ones that can't read ( Brian's post)
but hey they don't give a shit really, do they?

Listening to Lambert rambling on about taking the medicine as I drove back up the M1 last night reminded me of the words to Villiers Terrace, by Echo & The Bunnymen, off their first album Crocodiles released in July 1980. Here is an extract:-
I've been up to villiers terrace
I've been in a daze for days
I drank some of the medici-i-i-ine
And I didn't like the taste
And the song ends with:-
Save your money (!!)
Whilst Ian McCulloch who wrote the song is a big Liverpool fan I really think he was writing prophetically about Lambert's Villa, 2012-13 era.

Hard to argue with any of that Brian.

The club needs to be purged but it is only going to happen when we are on the brink of relegation to League 1 and guess when that day comes who the people in power on bloated salaries at Villa Park will turn to for the inspiration to rebuild the club? You've got it. The fans.
Excellent.
100%. Post of the week.

Superb post indeed Brian - just how bad does it have to get for some people?
This was kind of my thought process. Some people accuse others of panic, but just how much worse can it get than it has been lately?
-
Brian's post was great, but does everybody need to keep quoting it?

Brilliant post Brian.
It needs to make its way to the "powers that be" at OUR club.

Brian's rousing and impassioned post is exactly the kind of thing I'd love to hear from our self-styled fans' spokesmen and fanzine editors but never do. It's the uncomfortable and uncompromising truth.
Brian, have you ever been invited to any fan meetings with the club, and have you ever had the chance to deliver your heartfelt views in person?
-
Both teams should be banned from next years Cup for crimes against football.

Language, please. I think it's fairly self explanatory and it's a fair comment. I've never heard the nail being hit so firmly and truly on the head by those who claim to represent the fans in the media, or by the editors of any fanzines.

When has Dave ever claimed to represent the fans in the media?

Last night was our nadir, the end of a long cycle that started 26 years ago.
In twenty years time, when we are back in the top six, we will talk about this game in sage tones that the younger ones, who will have never had it so good, wont quite coprehend.
Villa till I die.

When has Dave ever claimed to represent the fans in the media?
Show me where I said Dave has ever claimed to represent fans in the media.
And to LeeB, why should it ever be out of order to criticise material that is in the public domain? We don't hold back on voicing our opinions about newspaper journalists.

Dave Woodhall is a friend of mine and a man for whom I have immense respect and to whom my older son owes £18 so I must not upset him.
As for my views about the Villa I have only once tried to be totally candid person to person with those in power at Villa Park and it was totally unproductive so I have never offered my services to represent the fans and do not feel qualified to do so these days.
Doug Ellis wanted to fanny me up to support his plan to have the new "Wembley" built on or near the NEC site. He knew from contacts made by me to the club about building a hotel complex on the site of the North Stand that I was an associate partner of the firm of architects who produced both the NEC and most of the newbuild around the old Wembley Stadium. I got the "VIP" treatment and invited with a guest into the Directors' Box for a game. I took my younger son, the one who is not Damon and who went to Millwall with me last night and went to the Everton game about ten years ago.
It started badly with despite us being VIPs we had to pay for our own drinks at astronomical prices followed by the legendary Charlie Aitken winding me up about me being a landowner and plastic farmer. Those who know me know I am very gobby and when my son and I got a pull from the suits that our Villa shirts were showing under our coats I gave everybody in earshot including Ellis and the assembled wankers from the FA both barrels. As my son and I left the Directors Box Stanley Collymore was coming out of the directors private lavatories and said "well said" as I slammed the door and returned to our seats on the Holte for the rest of the game.
That is my sad story and why I cannot consider myself as a proper, even tempered, rational representative of the fans. I am too hot headed and too gobby.

I dont blame you , who would want to get fannied up by doug?

Heidi Ellis? Maybe not so much these days.
-
Just seen the goals on itv - who was on the line for the corner - looked a half hearted effort to stop it going in .

It wasn:t Westwoods fault, it was Lamberts. There was no organisation, why Lichaj was left to mark Shitu, god only knows.

Nice post, Brian Green.
It really has gone beyond the pale over the past few weeks. I don't get to many games these days (kids, work, money) and just watching from the comfort of my home has been bad enough so my heart goes out to those brave souls following home and away. Of my friends that still have season tickets, the general mood has changed markedly since December from brittle positivity to anger and resignation.
I for one have tired completely of watching us play and chose, for the first time last night, not to make an effort to watch or listen to the game. For the rest of the season I will probably go to a couple of games, but only out of some odd sense of an old habit and to catch up with said mates.
We've been in decline for 3 years, but this latest 'team', and this is what I think has changed, is SO bad, SO gutless and SO directionless it's almost impossible to root for. We are deservedly a laughing stock and nobody at the club gives too fucks about it. So, why should the fans.
I've read a few times the if we lose to Newcastle he should go. I can't believe people are so patient.

Thank you for your honest answer, Brian. As someone who doesn't like toadying to those in positions of power or authority, I can understand your reaction on that occasion. In football, emotion is part and parcel of being a fan, but I have rarely read anything of yours recently that didn't have the balance and reasoning to back it up.
I think when fans enter the realms of professional journalism, the transition can be difficult because of the question of balance, and in some cases impartiality. Yet many fans still want to look up to those figures as fans, and also as people with a voice and a platform to air the frustration and anger of regular fans. Often, that kind of emotive rhetoric can compromise journalistic integrity, so it doesn't surprise me that people in that position would hold back on blasting both barrels. Neither should it stop me from commenting on it.
-
Yeah i just seen the goals on tv from last night, it is amazing how many of our players dont seem able to actually time their jump to head the ball. Also it is evident that almost all of our players are lightweight

On Football Focus, Ince and Lawrensen think the solution to our problems is to start Darren Bent more often. Have they seen our shambles of a midfield/defence? Muppets!
-
With a (in the main) new back four, why rotate the goalkeepers?
The defence has already been disrupted enough by injuries alone this season.
Unless its purely to remind buying clubs Shay Given is still available.
Keeping him fresh in case Guzan is suspended or injured? what sort
of mindset is that?
Saying that though, judging by the radio commentary I heard, not enough was happening in front of
Shay for it to have made a blind bit of difference.
-
There really has to be an end to this "get behind the lads" and "get behind the kids" and "get behind the manager" nonsense.....
I won't quote the whole post, but if I ran a fanzine I'd ask permission to publish it.

I agree with that. The only option now should be to put the first choice keeper with the first choice back 4 and maybe in a couple of months they will give the impression that they have all previously met each other.
-
Well now we are out the cups, Guzan will play every game now until the end of the season unless he gets injured.
-
Thankfully back to the topic.
I don't know what the stats show but I always feel a bit more comfortable against corners and set pieces with Guzan in goal. Shittu's goal last night was again a clear free header. The law of averages says that if the keeper comes for the ball sometimes he will get it or punch it or deflect it and at least on those occasions the free header on our goal will be denied. On the occasions the goalkeeper misses it and a header goes towards our goal there should be defenders on our line able to block it. If none of those things are effective we concede a goal but we are conceding goals anyway so we have nothing to lose.
We have two sorts of defensive ineptitude blighting our play at the moment. We have the ineptitude brought about by the inexperience at the top level of players like Bennett, Westwood, Lowton, Clark, Baker, Herd, Lichaj, Stephens, Bowery and Bannan. Yes, several of them have played a good number of Premiership games but none of them has played in a solid, well organized defence with the likes of Mellberg, Laursen, Bouma or Cahill in it. They were thrown into TSM relegation dog fights and it ruined them.
The other form of ineptitude which we see from Villa is the ineptitude of casualness. As well as the rookie players we have several who know better, have played better but do not consider that they have any responsibility to the club to play at their best levels. In this category I place Given, Bent and Ireland, all three of whom came to Villa not for playing reasons but financial ones. All three live in an incompetence comfort zone underpinned by the attitude of "well if the Villa will pay me that much every week I will not say No." On the cusp of sinking into that category I would place N'Zogbia and, with a very heavy heart, Gabby. I think Given, Bent and Ireland are all lost causes but I think Zog and Gabby are not completely beyond redemption.
So who does that leave who is not either naive or complacent. Perhaps Benteke (with sorry lapses) Vlaar, Delph, Guzan and Weimann.
That leaves Holman who cannot pass or tackle and KEA who has become Ireland's back up in the how to hide for ninety minutes role.
I reckon we have no more than six or seven players to trust to try to get us back up next season.
-
How long is Herd out for?
Dunne needs to come in for Clark and play alongside Ron.
Herd needs to come into a midfield 3 alongside Westwood and Delph (kea when he's back)
Benteke needs to go out wide of a 3, bring Bent in the middle and nzogbia out left.
Moving Benteke out wide will draw defenders out, leaving space to bent to chase through balls and flick one from Benteke

Spot on again Brian, six or seven at best. A sorry state we are in.
-
Regarding the two forms of defensive ineptitude, I find the former infinitely more forgiveable than the latter.
-
I was say in the stand opposite the Villa end.
The Millwall fans around me seemed quite "normal". No racism from them and they booed their fellow fans for throwing bottles on the pitch.
They seemed to have it in for Weimann for some reason. Strange, because I thought Millwall fans would have an affinity with Austrians...
-
Herd needs to come into a midfield 3 alongside Westwood and Delph (kea when he's back)
Forgive me Vinnie if I don't cartwheel around the living room at this prospect. Herd's pretty ordinary and that's being kind while KEA's crap, Westwood adequate and Delph progressing slowly from crap to average. We need to buy.
-
Who'd like a bet that KEA comes back from the African Nations injured?

I'm not overly pleased that this is only one of our options! Sad state of affairs. However we need more steal in the middle and unfortunately Herd is our only option.

Can you think of a worst midfield in the time you have been watching - I am 44 by the way to put the timeline in context ??
I'm 53 and no I can't
2002-3 Hassan Kachloul - Mark Kinsella - Øyvind Leonhardsen (worst player I have ever seen in a Villa shirt) - Joey Gudjonsson - Thomas Hitzlsperger makes a pretty awful 5. To be fair though we still had Barry/Taylor/Hendrie/Whittingham too.
-
The reason for the Millwall fans to have it in for Weimann was because he is not quite a Witemann.
As for KEA every time I hear the ACN commentary of a Morocco game I hear "Aston Villa's Al Ahmadi has lost the ball". I reckon he is another sight unseen purchase based on video footage.

The worst midfield I can recall is the one which had Barry Hole in it. Perhaps some other old timer can add the others. Was one Phil Woosnam? I think his awfulness came later. Ron Wylie was crap also.

Barry Hole! Tell me we didn't have a player called Barry Hole purleez.
Mark Lillis was crap personified and i think may have played in tandem with David Hunt which is too gruesome an image to contemplate.
(Quite what this has to do with the Millwall match thread I don't know but it's a blessing to be talking about something else)
-
Oh yes. Aitken, Arce, Hole was how the team read.
-
I think that Brian is correct in his identification of the players within the squad who display a modicum of commitment however, even with the rest of the players on the pitch they should at least be able to demonstrate some understanding of what they should be doing. I can forgive players for not being good enough and I can forgive players for temporarily losing motivation but what I've found totally disgusting in recent games is the sheer absence of any form of organisation. We don't even seem to be able to do the very most basic things at any point in a game and I'd be fascinated to know what goes on at Bodymoor Heath because the team don't seem able to reproduce it on match day.
Lambert gained a reputation for polishing turds and it just mystifies me that he can't get this team to do the basics. Bradford, Southampton and Wigan have all done well at VP by doing basic things well. Our failure to do the simplest of things on the pitch is really sad to watch. Really, really sad.
-

I thought it was Brown, Arce, Hole. That was Jimmy Brown.

I am sure I read Lambert saying Herd will be out for 6-8 weeks somewhere on the official site.

Man City had a very paranormal midfield back in the day. Bell, Book and Kendall.
-
Oh yes. Aitken, Arce, Hole was how the team read.
...and a front two called Ring & Piece?
-
Now you are being silly Russ. His name was not Piece it was Pace. Doc Pace.
-
Oh yes. Aitken, Arce, Hole was how the team read.
I thought it was Brown, Arce, Hole. That was Jimmy Brown.
That was another contrived line up that never happened.
-
Just back from London after another Hallmark Villa show. What a waste of time and money.
That's my last away game for a while.
-
Man City had a very paranormal midfield back in the day. Bell, Book and Kendall.
Except Book was a full back and Kendall played for Everton.
-
Tony Book played midfield and so did Felicity Kendall.

The fans.
Brian, absolutely brilliant post. You put things so eloquently, and always hit the nail on the head.

Felicity Kendall was awesome at the back.

I saw that so differently. I thought Vlaar was sympathising with the fans and in his way apologising to them.
There had been a few chants on f**k off from some fans at the players before he came over to us.
That was my take on it too, Pauline.
I think the other players were too ashamed to even look in our direction, except for Bennett who clapped us fleetingly.
-
Come on lads. Keep it up. We will get through this day and this thread one way or another. Gallows humour, you can't beat it when facing the drop.
-
Felicity Kendall was awesome at the back.
She had her knockers as well.
but she fought back with a classic rearguard action.

The worst midfield I can recall is the one which had Barry Hole in it. Perhaps some other old timer can add the others. Was one Phil Woosnam? I think his awfulness came later. Ron Wylie was crap also.
Hole joined early in 68, pre Docherty by a few months. Woosnam, who once shared 40 goals in a season with Big Tone, had long since departed for NASL.
The central midfielders of the time that I recall were the likes of Hole, Ferguson, Mitchinson, Park, Deakin and Broadbent.
The situation we are in now is not unlike Docherty's start to his season two. Defence all over the place, young players (Rioch, Hamilton, McMahon) looking nothing like the players we thought we had bought at the start of the season.
They weren't bad players, pretty good in fact as it later turned out. Docherty was not a bad manager either for that matter. It just wasn't working and looked abysmal.
-
"He is up he is down he is in the Rose and crown, Barry Hole, Barry Hole, he shot, he missed he must be fucking pissed, Barry Hole, Barry Hole"
After being punished by the club for drinking before a match.

Multiple choice question:
You are an Aston Villa midfielder, in the Millwall half in what looks like a promising attacking position. Do you:
1. Send the ball over to a forward in a wide position outside the penalty area, in the hope that he'll be able to get a cross into Darren Bent
2. Launch the ball directly into the area yourself in the hope that Darren will be able to get his head on it and at least make the opposition defence do a bit of work
3. Pass the ball sideways and slightly backwards to another midfielder, who will do the same, with the whole team repeating the exercise about another 27 times until the ball is safely back with Shay Given. Who will then hoof it out for a throw-in to the opposition...
4. Do 3 all game except when it's about two minutes from the end when you realise you've got a game which could have already been won to save, decide to give 2 a go, by which time it is too late...
-

True but much better when playing with one in the hole.

The words and intent of this post are brilliant. A real cold summing up of our club's employees and expectation is that somehow they should be delivering like any other corporate organisation. However reality of football and performance of footballers on the pitch every Saturday requires a bit more than mechanical industrial machine approach. It requires capability combined with passion. Passion both within the players on the pitch and the supporters in the stand. Good crowds and passionate support can change the course of a match and the result. However enough capability is a must. The enough is that which allows you to compete. We are a little short of that so not able to compete therefore it is important that supporters help by filling the gap as much as possible. A few clubs, say manu, have got close to combining capability with industrial efficiency but not many and manu still require their supporters to urge them on at occasions. So most do rely on audience participation to lesser or greater degree. Therefore, IMO, dismissing crowd effect is bunkum.

Bradford and now f--king Millward. Stop making excuses for this shower of sh-t. Owner, manager, players and too many fans who live on past glory all of which happened before most of these players we even born. It's cr-p. it's all cr-p and tossers who make excuses for it are bell ends. What sort of tosser brings in Mcleish? What sort of tosser can't see what's so obvious to any dipsh-t with half a brain? Sunday league only for me now...f--k this...

I wonder how passionate you were feeling on 90 minutes yesterday? The players deserved every bit of stick they took last night. As someone said in another thread, the fans have met their side of the bargain by turning up week after week in large numbers only to have their noses rubbed in it by lambert and his bunch of couldn't give a shit merchants. They need someone who can tell them what's expected of villa players. If lambert can't do that then the fans will. They're pro footballers not an under 12 side.
-
Give them all the stick they deserve after the game but support them before and during.
-
Oh yes. Aitken, Arce, Hole was how the team read.
I thought it was Brown, Arce, Hole. That was Jimmy Brown.
Wright, Aitken , Brown, Arce, Hole
-
Godfrey's Aitken Arce Hole is the way I remember it.
-
I remember Godfrey in with Rioch and co so was that his first time around coming?
-
I would severely hope that the Villa players do not have the chance or permission to go out spending money or to nightclubs till at least Wednesday. I would hope they are in extra training right now...

When has Dave ever claimed to represent the fans in the media?
Show me where I said Dave has ever claimed to represent fans in the media.
And to LeeB, why should it ever be out of order to criticise material that is in the public domain? We don't hold back on voicing our opinions about newspaper journalists.
Because it's not Dave's fault we're shit, and it's not his fault he didn't write that brilliant piece by Brian.

Wright, Aitken , Brown, Arce, Hole
So had these played in the 80/81 season we could have had a league winning back line of - William's Brown Arce Hole Rimmer?
-
In the late 40's we had a front line of "Buster" Crabbe Ron Cockell (father of Don the boxer) and Jimmy Wintle. Pity Jimmy Wintle was such a weed because I could have added they were all Mussel. Crabbe was called Buster because the actor they chose to take the part of Johnny Weissmuller in the Tarzan films was called Buster Crabbe. He was huge and muscular but as I have said in these threads many times he was the worst Villa centre forward I have ever seen and I have seen a few. He also had an arse which makes Gaz Baz's look like Kylie Minogue's.

What the fuck we're to trying to say then, because from where I was sat you we're lashing out a bloke who runs a fanzine for not saying what you want him to say.

This could easily be resolved by divulging which fanzine editor/s was/were being referred to.

So you're going down the abusive route too? Your post is badly written but if I've got this right, and you think what I said was lashing out, you must be a very sensitive soul indeed.
-
I was say in the stand opposite the Villa end.
The Millwall fans around me seemed quite "normal". No racism from them and they booed their fellow fans for throwing bottles on the pitch.
My son was with Millwall fans and he said something similar about the bottle throwing.
-
Must admit I read the post as some sort of dig at Dave, I can't think of any other Villa fanzines and I really don't understand why he has come in for any sort of implied criticism.
Brian's post was as usual brilliant but people don't need to keep quoting it all the bloody time just to say how good it is, reminds me of all those programmes that feel they need to recap after every 2 minute ad break.

A lot has been read into what I said, and it appears to have hit a raw nerve. I was referring broadly to any fan with a public platform and some influence, such as the editor of a fanzine or a self-styled fans' spokesman. If somebody has decided to take it as a personal dig, then that's up to them. But when you put your work into the public domain, you should be prepared to accept criticism without resorting to abusive language. Or are some people above criticism? Personally I'd rather be objective than resort to sycophancy.

its not as thou its new is it , fuck me used to be concrete, brick, piss , toffee apples <pompey leage cup i think > its millwall ,never went tonight but just had a phone call from my boy loved it . we have always done it and i think its quite refreshing that we are still being millwall ! fuck em

I think a few people have noticed that whenever there's any stick being handed out to Lerner, Dave Woodhall is normally one of the first to come to the defence. I think it's a strange position for a fanzine editor to take.

It may seem that way to those that want it to seem that way.
I have always thought that DW only steps in when things need a bit of a balanced comment. Above all, I certainly get the impression that it is club first above all of the personalities. Very rarely does he jump on the band wagon of current feelings.
At the end of the day, every fan wants the best for the club. Some are more realistic than others.

Not yet and i'm quite surprised. I would have thought the ref would have written it in his report bearing in mind the game was stopped for 3-4 minutes.

That will be over 100 inquiries into trouble at Millwall, all with the same outcome.
