I think we're going to see a lot more sales like this over coming months.

I reckon I probably had every one of those in their day.

How much for the Subbuteo pitch ;)

The winner of these will have something to cheer them up!

Unfortunately I cant afford £25,000 and believe me he is not going to get anything like that. I do have two complete sets of The Villa Times in the loft I might put them out to offer if we go down.

You would be wise to, eastie:-
1) I'm absolutely amazed they have been placed on ebay as one lot.
2) They are not worth anywhere near the price quoted.
-
I have the full set of home and away programmes from 80/81
Any idea what they are worth ? All in mint condition
Would never sell but just curious ?

£15 tops.
-
I have all homes from 73 to 2009 and lots of aways but was quoted £120 for the lot - cant see him getting anywhere near 20k.
I did have the penarol programme which cost me about £2- i sold that to a collector for £96 a couple of years back- very rare apparently .
Most 70s and 80s programmes go for about 50p each .

Individual programmes from that season tend to sell for £1 each.
A complete collection, which I assume includes the four cup programmes from that season, gives 42 + 4 = 46 programmes = £46.
Then add say a 20/25% premium for it being a complete set from a Championship winning season and you are looking at somewhere in the region of £55-60.
-
So programmes are not collectible at all then really ?

Seems a bit low. Would have thought at least £100.
Not for sale anyway so doesn't really matter.
-
My mate the collector/dealer says that 80-81 is pretty much done to death because everyone who had programmes from it kept them.
-
Fair enough that would make sense. Wonder which year is the most collectible ? Probably the 1st year programmes were introduced I guess ? 1930's ??
-
The first programmes were from 1906; you really have to go back pre-war to be worth much unless they're really rare. Some of the most valuable are from the early League Cup ties.
-
I know this seller. It is a great collection, including postponed matches where the programme was reprinted.

You probably did pretty well there, eastie. It was offered by a Shropshire auctioneer at a £100-120 guide in 2011, but is available on the latest Sports Programmes auction catalogue at '£50 min'.

On the basis that a few programme holders / sellers will hopefully be reading this thread then I am looking for:-
Aston Villa v Stoke City Home League programme from 25th March, 1953.
I understand it was a very wet Wednesday evening and, as a result, most copies were soaked by the time fans got home after the match. As a result it is quite rare and I'm willing to pay a good price for a copy in very good condition. Please PM me if you have a copy and are willing to sell.
I'm also still looking for Heroes & Villains edition 3 to complete my collection.

Don't know what happened there Dave; post is now complete. Cheers. Brian.
-
Ah. That's why the 1924 FA Cup final programme is worth more than the 1923 one. It rained.
-
....I didn't know that. I've not got the programme for that game but do have a silver, hallmarked, badge commemorating the 'English Cup Final 1924' which my grandfather passed to me in the mid-60's. Spot on re: the early League Cup programmes; Rotherham Final Away Leg goes for anything between £250-£400 in very good condition.
-
I sold most of my collection on ebay a few years back and was surprised how little most of the programmes went for.
One that did surprise me was the 1972 Charity shield v Man City.
The programme sellers in the holte end used to sell bundles of programmes for a quid and this programme was in a bundle of 10 from the seventies.
I sold it for 18 quid, not bad considering I paid 10p for it.
-
Interesting stuff, so basically if you know your product it can be a rewarding investment ?
Think my most recent rarity will be CSKA Moscow away (the O'Neill surrender). Not the best programme and obviously it's all in Russian but possibly a rarity ?
-
It's only an investment if you bought them a long time ago or happen to stumble across a cheap rarity at a car boot sale.

I've got loads from the late 70's through the 80's and 90's which seem to be fairly worthless.
Then I have a lot from the 50's that were passed down.
-
The home leg programme from the 1963 League Cup Final is worth about £150 (due to a print shortage) so the collectors manuals say.
But you try getting anything like that and Ive got programmes from both legs
Cant remember who our opponents were though.....or the score!
