Anyone know what's going on with Dunne?
He's been out since the Euros, is the injury a convenient excuse as he's been frozen out or are the club actively trying to get him fit again - I'm sure I read somewhere that he was in America trying to sort his injury out.
Dunne is 33. Warnock is 31. I believe they both still live in the North West and both of them are on frees the Summer, so will presumably be looking at getting their last contract.
It's in their interest to get some sort of form if they want to stay in the top flight.
I (like most) wanted them replaced, but Bennett and Clark have been awful.
Better the devil(s) you know?
-
Not sure Dunne still lives in the North West, i've seen him shopping in Sainsburys Mere Green a couple of times, with his family.
-
I'd even contemplate Hutton at the moment as well!!!
-
Tweet from Warnocks wife
@laurawarnock3: To villa fans asking why ste isnt playing, he wants to play but just isnt getting picked, hes frustrated because he wants to play football!
-
After watching Bennett get taking to the cleaners by fourth division players last night, and knowing Stephens' inexperience, personally, shite as Warnock was the last couple of years, I'd put him back in the side now.
Either instead of Bennett or in front of him in midfield.
-
As there was no other midfielders to pick other than Bannan and Delph last night then Warnock may have done a job in there last night. Clutching at straws though really...
-
Not a cat in hells chance he'll pick Warnock

Which is a shame because we could do with some experience. I can only imagine both of them have been purposely held back at the direction of Randy or Faulkner. Yes, Warnock's had some shaky games for us, but there is a half-decent player in there. We definitely need Dunne's leadership and I've had the same surgery that he had and with the physiotherapy available to him, he should have been out a couple of months at most.
-
I would welcome Warnock into the team with open arms at the minute.
-
Think I read around November time that Dunne went to America for an op on his groin which they were having trouble sorting out here. Don't think we'll see him again but tbh we could do with his sort of experience at CB right now
Edit: Just did a quick Google - he had a third op on his groin mid December in Philadelphia and may start training again end of this month/mid February
-
I love how players out of the team suddenly become good!
-
I watched Warnock fail to control the ball at every moment in pre-season, I'd have him in this team however
-
According to Pat Murphy, Lambert is a big fan of Dunne and once he gets fit he'll give him every chance to secure a new contract with us.
-

Completely agree.
Players like Warnock got a lot of stick for not being good enough, but they were being compared to players at the level we were expecting to match at the time.
I think it's fair to say that even if players weren't good enough in the past, it's time to reconsider.
-
Both out of contract in the summer. Can't see them playing for us again.

More fools us then.

Possibly.

Totally agree, but will Lambert re-consider his decision to ostracise Warnock, probably not and another point is Warnock actually match-fit?
-
Could really do with Dunne at the back right now,bit of experience and strength at the back, not too sure about Warnock
-
Is Warnock still being made to train with the kids?
-

Yeah and Hutton
-
That's absolutely insane.
I could understand trying to force them out over the summer, but you'd think once the window closes and we're paying them, you may as well give them a crack of the whip and see if they fight for a spot, especially considering some of the poor performances we've seen.
I'm not saying Warnock and Hutton would solve all of our problems, by any means, but what have they done to piss PL off so much they don't even get to show what they can do in training...
-

Aye, I think everybody has forgotten how downright abysmal Warnock was last season. We are so terrible that I wouldn't be against Dunne coming back into the side (though I doubt he'll be fit quickly enough) but Warnock is no better than Bennett and doesn't even have inexperience as an excuse.

Warnock is a far better player than Bennett, yes he had a mare for a few games last year, but this is a player that not so long ago was part of one of the best defences in the EPL and was getting England call ups. Bennett may develop into a very good player (though not seen any indications of this yet) but at the moment he is a liability, and much more so than Warnock ever was. Other teams are targetting Bennett now and that position has become the achilles heel of the team.
If we're not going to get someone new in for that position, it would IMO be crazy not to get him back in the fold for the rest of the season.
-
I used to moan about Dunne and Warnock for there effort, they seem to become better players with there absents, bring back Hutton aswell
-
I would prefer to see two new players bought instead of having to rely on Dunne and Warnock again.
-
I can understand the short-term appeal but for Lambert it would be like admitting defeat wouldn't it? Bringing back some of the previously frozen out under-performing high earners to replace the kids that he himself had chosen.
I'd say it's more likely that we'll see new signings come in rather than ask the likes of Hutton and Warnock to help us out.
-
One thing which comes across from Lambert loud and clear is his stubbornness. He is not the kind of man who has the word flexibility or pragmatism in any part of his brain that he uses.
-
I'd love to know what has been going on at VP. My guess is that some of the mentioned players are arseholes and also that Randy sees the club as an expensive mistake
-

Indeed. In fact, he's starting to remind me of someone...

Another thing that was said at the game last night and I actually think he's morphing into you know who.
-
Warnock - yes he had his problems but I don't think he was nearly as bad as some tried to make out. He always gave 100% so I could never understand the accusation that he didn't care. Would certainly be happier with him there than our current options. Don't understand what he's done to warrant his treatment. Same for Hutton, whatever you think of them as players to put them with the kids simply because they are big earners is shabby. As for match fitness, both have been playing on loan so they are good to go but can't see Lambert going there.
Dunne - Again, I think something is not right. He played all through the Euros then suddenly injured forever. Also, last week he was be strongly linked with a move to the MLS. If he's injured then why is he being touted for transfer? Whatever you say about the defence we had 12 months ago, it pisses all over what we have to offer now. Do you think Collins and Dunne would have conceded those goals last night? Possibly but probably not.

oh to be a fly on the wall. I agree, although his form has always been up and down, he's a level headed player who for the most part always made the right decision while on the ball.

Sadly Brian, I fear you're right. He burned his bridges far too quickly over Warnock, Hutton and Collins. He isolated Bent, when all he needed was a kick up the arse and he's blindly following this transfer policy of <here comes that cliche again> 'young and hungry' over experience.
Please Paul, its ok to change tact, no-one will think any less of you.
-
Wouldn't want Hutton back, because Lowton is good, on the bench maybe. Warnock & Dunne however would be straight in if it were up to me.
-
I'm starting to wonder if lambert just has a really, really small penis.
-
I agree Summers. I'd pick Lowton over Hutton in a settled side but when you are forced to play Baker and Clark as a centre pairing I reckon Warnock and Hutton on either side of them would make a more solid back four.
-
Regarding Hutton and Warnock, does anyone know how well they actually performed whilst away?
-
Is Zat Knight playing at the minute?
-
Down the left I would be tempted to put Bennett on the wing with Warnock behind him. Bennett is fast, can cross and likes going forward. It might give us a bit of balance.
Lowton is 10 times the footballer Hutton is. If Hutton could play centre half I would consider it, but he can't.
-
Is Zat Knight playing at the minute?
You joking? We Laursen back
-
The one player we really are missing from last season is Heskey. He'd be worth his place in the side right now just for his defensive work on corners. Ideally swap him for Benteke once the ball crosses the halfway line, although last night he'd have done a better job in both boxes!
-
If Lambert can get Warnock close to back to his best, then I'd have no qualms. In all truth, even if he's a busted flush now, he's still the best LB on our books sadly.
I know it's early but Bennett looks bobbins. Boro fans were happy to see him go for the fee we paid, where-as Sheff Utd and Crewe were sad to see Lowton and Westy go (albeit happy to have the money). I think that says something.
He may come good, but we need players performing now, not hoping beyond hope they will in a couple of years.
-
Warnock / Dunne / Hutton / Ireland - if I were manager there is no way that they would get near the 1st Team.
I was told by a certain player that after Warnock scored that own goal, he was smiling!, he could not care less about OUR Football club
We need to get rid of these players ASAP.
-
Can't say i want either of them back. Warnock seemed to have some sort of on-pitch breakdown at one stage. Not sure i want that sort of personality stuck in the team with the kids. Dunne is basically a shining beacon of unprofessionalism who's lifestyle seems to be catching up with him now. Again i'm not sure i want some beer/pasty monster who gets into fights with the coaching staff in the mix. By all means buy some old heads who can lead by example but i'm pretty sure both of them are examples of how not to do it.

Well he was directly facing me and he certainly wasn't smiling he had his head in his hands. He also didn't hide after it happened and had a good game for the remainder

Absolutely spot on mate.
-
I thought Warnock was a woeful left back, he really was at times shocking. He did ok in midfield towards the end of last season though so i would'nt be against throwing him in there if it came to it.
Hutton on the other hand would make an already dodgy defence worse.
-
I don't want Warnock and Hutton in the team. They had their chance and did not impress. Lowton has been ok, Bennett has been shite and Stevens has been average. I'd try Stevens at LB for a bit.
-
i can see some sense in putting Warnock in the midfield but wasn't he frozen out more because of his damaging influence in the dresing-room last season? If so why bring him back in now? Dunne would go in but Hutton? He's shite and no improvement at all.
I don't see that Lambert is being stubborn but when you have decided that a player is destructive and another just not good enough (Warnock and Hutton) then what does that say to teh outside world, and to teh team, that you throw them back in? That you're flexible or that your weak and you are liable to make decisions that you have to overturn when things aren't going well. We need knew players coming in not teh same rubbish ones that had us in the same position last year.
lambert should not bring anyone but Dunne back and Dune would be playing if he wasn't injured. I have some sympathy with Lambert here as we would be having Vlaar and Dunne playing at the back if all was okay with injuries. I don't think he could have foreseen Dunne being out since the summer, or Vlaar being out for a couple of months. There's no doubt he's, and the club, are working on something. But selling clubs can see we need players so will try and raise the price and try to hold us to hostage. Yes, we need them in fast but we shouldn't be paying stupid money for players of a certain standard. that's what got us into this mess the first time.
