I think unlike the Summer window, January is more about the short-term. Signings who will make an instant impact and be the difference in helping teams acheive their target for the season. So who was Villa's best ever January signing who was vital to where we finished end of season? Loan signings count. I'd go for Solano myself. Don't think we would have gone on that run without him.

Darren Bent.

Weren't Young and Carew January signings ?, they didn't do too shabbily.
-
But neither Young or Carew made much of an impact that season.

Nolberto Solano

Darren Bent.
This. Questionable if we would've stayed up without him.

Ian Taylor did alright. Not quite January but close enough I reckon! Has Ivanhoe been mentioned yet?

DB for me, too

Robbie Keane. Definitely would have gone down without his goals.

Carew & A .Young follow by Bent

Bent followed by Keane. Carew and Young also gave us a big lift when we had been on a bad run. Our recent record for January signings when we have been in trouble is good. We need to pull another one or two out of the bag this year. PL might want to look back to the old March deadline signings. In 1986 we bought Steve Hunt and Andy Blair, two experienced top flight players who also had the advantage of having played for the club before. They helped us stay up. The following year we bought an inexperienced youngster in warren Aspinall and went down.

Bent for me too
