Title: Bristol Rovers Away 14 Sept 74
Post by: He wears a magic hat on December 28, 2012, 12:03:21 PM

Not sure if this has been posted before. But it's a pretty comprehensive HTV coverage of unfortunately a 1-0 defeat.

Should bring back some memories for the older H&V

Anyone else see the kids trying to trip up the players with the scarves?

Eastville was a dump but a ground I liked and we had some good games down there.
I think it's a shopping centre now.

That Eastville was a rough old ground. I was at that match and several others down there.
I think it was the previous encounter where we stood on the right hand side of their end, the Tote End. Old pennies rained down on us and we had a hostile reception all the way back to the station.

Yes I'm afraid it's an IKEA, amongst other identikit chain storres. I'm even more afraid I've been dragged into IKEA many more times than I went to the old Eastville

Got chased back to Stapleton Rd station by a mob of Gas Head scallies that day. Had to run over a gas pipe over a canal too, which was a bit hairy as I recall.

How much did John Gidman used to get forward? Crikey.

Also, whatever happened to the chant "you're gonna get your fucking heads kicked in"?

Giddy used to spend a lot of time putting his hair straight with his hands but what a player!

The thing with that chant was that it was no idle threat, wherever you went. Bristol was a tough place and we went there loads of times.

Yes I love that. Imagine if kids tried that now to the Premier League darlings?
