We've beat spurs twice in something like 14 years at home so the chance of us bouncing back and winning this is slim.

It gets worse guys our home record for winning on boxing day is truly abysmal,

Played 17 WON 3 LOST 11 DREW 3

Happy Christmas.

They are and they're not great against teams who sit deep at them like yesterday and losing at home to Wigan barely having a shock.

They're technically a better version of us under MON which is why they've been better away from home this season.

Clearly after today we have no option but to sit back as taking them on attacking with the defence vulnerable and with their pace would be suicidal.

Get plenty back and see what Benteke and Weimann can do on the break as their defence is hardly watertight themselves.

Ironic as Lichaj usually plays really well against them, last season he had Lennon in his pocket, season before he played very well against Bale.

More than a little fearful of Lennon and Bale if we play 3-5-2.

Lambert should be and is responsible for todays shambolic display. He is a young

manager learning so can be forgiven some mistakes and he needs to learn and learn quickly.

3-1 to Spurz. Wigan is the big game not this one.

I reckon we'll win this, for no other reason that everyone's on a down and we're not expected to do it. But the atmosphere will be ace and we'll surprise a few. I can see Lambert going back to square one though and putting N'Zog, Ireland, KEA and Delph in to try and put steel and experience in there.

9-0.
N'zog won't play though as he will fall out of his bed on Tuesday night and injure his small toe.
The Benteke that was last seen at Kanfield will get 4.
Lowton will get 2.
Guzan will score from a goal kick.
Wee Barry will score 2 from long range.......ya that is where this theory falls down. His attempts from outside the box are laughable. Consistent though.

As a play on a Christmas Carol you have three scenerios.  The Villa of the past, present and future.  We have had 2 visions in the Liverpool and Chelsea games.  The question is what will the spurs game throw up and which games falls into which category.  High brow stuff.

Exactly!  There are people calling for Holman to be dropped for Gods sake. The game before Holman was being lauded for his exceptional industry by the fans and the media.

What Lambert should (and probably will do) is pick exactly the same team and suggest they go out and win the game.

Which they are quite capable of doing.

I don't want the same team, I think lichaj needs to be replaced for sure and I'd probably bring Delph in for bannan , if nzogbia is fit then I'd play him ahead of Holman who looks in need of a rest.

                                  Guzan

  Lowton.        Herd.    Clark.    Baker.          Bennett

I agree, 433/451 is the way we need to go. If Vlaar is fit I would go with;

I just feel there are games coming thick and fast and lambert needs to freshen things up, we have 6  games in 16 days and bannan and Holman look really tired, rest them and maybe they will be refreshed for Wigan.

More noise inside the stadium than an AC/DC concert, fans jumping up and down "Lamberts claret and blue army" style, hatrick from Benteke and a 4-2 win for Villa. Optimistic about the result i know but we have to get behind the lads and scare the shite out of Spurs. Pride will play a masive part and i think the battering we took against Chelski has slightly annoyed Benteke and all the rest of the team. Benteke annoyed, no thank you and he will rip Spurs a new arsehole. ;D

I'd take a 0-0 or any draw. A point to steady the ship and give us a platform to beat Wigan in the six pointer.

I said about two months ago that 19 points going into January was a basis to stay up. I stand by that. 22 or more would be great.

Natural left footer and I trust lambert to have bought a good one in him- he hasn't really has a run of games when fully match fit yet, but lichaj is not natural in that position and an able deputy at best.

A draw would be a really good result. I hope we can get it, and then move on to put some points on the board starting with Wigan.

I think this is a big challenge though. Not only to get the players up for it and confident again, but also tactically. Anyone watching the Chelsea game had it laid fairly squarely on a plate in terms of how to play against us. It points to Bale and Lennon sticking wide, with one up front, and runners like Dembele, Sigurdsson or Dempsey running from midfield straight onto an exposed back 3.

So there's lots of reasons to go back to 4231, but unless Vlaar is back, that means Baker and Clark together. I thought they looked  pretty flakey at  home to Reading, which I think is why Lambert changed it.

On balance, I think I'd stick to the back 3, but dropping Lichaj for Bennett. The real choices will be in midfield, where perhaps one or two could do with a rest. Delph seems to be the most likely contender for me. Not sure this is the sort of game we need a Stephen Ireland for, but you never know.

Draw this and then beat Wigan, and I'll still maintain it's been a good pre-Christmas spell.

After Sunday I'd probably be happy just to avoid defeat in this one, anything else would be a bonus.

The players were lifted by the fans in second half at Norwich.  I think a good atmosphere at VP tomorrow will help.

Villa, Villa, Villaaar

1. fock them off
2. get into them

I always prefer to get into 'em first, then fuck 'em off but tastes on this differ ;-)

Balls.

Maybe Benteke upfront with Ireland supporting him and a tight 4 man midfield behind them. I'd be well happy with a point in this as long as we beat Wigan.

Benteke with Ireland behind, Westwood, KEA and Bannan tight behind, with the 5 man back line for me. Try and be solid.

KEA already gone to the African nations apparently, so scratch him tomorrow.

Need a couple of early signings in Jan!

Haven't got a clue in this one. Predicted a loss against Chelsea but was 7 goals out with the scoreline!

Head says we'll lose by a couple. Although as its meant to be the season of good cheer I'll go for a scrappy 1-1.

I think he is still here, but I read on one of the pre match write ups that he has already gone. Not sure which.

Fair point we may have to rely on Herd or Clark playing the DCM role ?

We really need to sort the goals for and against columns out. It's getting embarrassing.

Not sure delph and bannan would work together. Lambert's been clear he sees Clark as a centre back. I doubt he fancies Herd there.

Any sign yet that this Weimann injury stuff is real?

Yeah saw that just now, surely that's a bit early considering it dosen't start until middle of January and there's been instances in the past when clubs have kept players until early January?
