Looks a good Chelsea side that. Luiz and Lampard in midfield, and Ivanovic and Cahill at centre back. Azpilcueta and Cole likely to get lots of the ball in the full back positions.

Would definitely take a point! Come on villa!!

Holman needs to get close to Luiz. I can see him being influential in that role today. Would have much preferred him at cb! Also a bit worried about lichaj v Moses.

I've a bad feeling about this one I have to say. Clark looks nervy. Herd has let Torres get the run on him twice, including for the goal. Their full backs have acres of space. Need to play our way back into it,  but be alive to their very quick balls into Torres and into the channels

Chelsea's defence better organised than Liverpool were at the back. We're struggling for ideas a bit in the last third, though have grown into it a bit. I do think there are goals here for Chelsea though. I think we may have a problem in terms of taking responsibility for picking people up at the back. Herd looks a bit like a rabbit in headlights.

As good as is to beat teams like Liverpool, what we simply must do between now and end of the season is defeat those teams in the bottom half of the table. Our goal difference is worth one less point, so we need to ensure that where we need to win we do. Anything else is a bonus.

They don't look like they were in Japan a week ago and played a game mid week.

Not promising if we get hammered and have to play them at Wembley, should we beat Bradford.

The inexperience is showing today.

Yep, and some lack of quality too and to be fair I can forgive both.  Teams know our left back position is vulnerable and every team we've played in the past month has headed that way so Lichaj along with Herd fall into the latter category - certainly in the positions they are currently playing.

If I were Lambert, I'd move to a back found, throw Ireland on and remind Benteke about how the offside rule works.  We need to get a lot more aggressive in our pressing and tackling too - we look like we're a bit in awe at times.

That's the only positive for me. Should both teams reach the final, Chelsea probably won't bother changing out of their Wembley suits and we might just do them.

formation is not working. i wasnt a fan of it last week either, and thought we got away with it a bit due to some poor liverpool finishing (they should have really been 3 up after 20 mins) and the fact we got it right on the break.

we have 3 centrebacks marking 1 forward, leaving the midfield and fullbacks exposed with 2 on 1s. chelseas 3 attacking midfielders are killing us with their movement and we are all over the place in terms of positioning and communication. and when we get on the ball in the midfield we have no where to go because chelsea out number us there.

we are not clicking on the break at all, and all benteke has done is stray offside.

For every Liverpool or Swansea, there's a Southampton. I think people were expecting a bit much after the last couple of games.

Maybe so, but nobody can be happy with being 3-0 down after half an hour when Chelsea haven't really had to play out of 2nd gear.  We look like the team who have travelled around the world in the last week.

I hope we can save on the wailing and gnashing of teeth. There'll be more matches like this, this season. I don't agree Chelsea have been in second gear, they've been playing at a high pace.

One thing I can agree on is that we can't go on with Herd and Lichaj in the side for too much longer.

That's a little patronising Matt if you don't mind me saying so.  I don't think I was wailing and I'm well sure my teeth aren't gnashing.  My point was that, despite our inexperience and lack of depth of quality, it still hurts being battered by anybody.

I wouldn't say Chelsea were in 2nd gear. We certainly are. The crazy thing is they have had just 6 goal attempts in the half and have put away 3.

Collective kick in the arse for the entire team. We are better than this. Go out and win 2nd half.

Chelsea are playing 4231, having 3 CBs makes things really difficult for our fullbacks who have to stay quite deep to stop moses and hazard pulling the cb's wide but that leaves too much space for their fullbacks, so lowton and lichaj go to close them down and we leave gaps.  Hazard and Moses have had far too much space so far.

Herd and baker are getting plenty of time on the ball but their distribution has been poor. Moses isn't tracking lichaj back because its a risk worth taking. Bannan has had a poor game today but he's played well in the last 5-6 lets not get a lynch mob on him for a bad game.

We've been outclassed and have played a system that has benefitted them more than us (becuase hazard and moses haven't bothered tracking our full backs, so they've had loads of space), just one of those games we're going to see whilst we're still a very young side.

I'm trying not to post angry stuff.

But this is such a reality check. We are still in real danger. Just three points off the drop zone with a very poor goal difference and all the teams around of us capable of picking up many wins.

Its chelsea away   not Wigan at home  . I know what you mean but Liverpoo was a bonus 3 pts for me anyway

I know but I was hoping we would keep it tight, our goal difference was bad going into this. That bloody 18th spot is wide open right now.

Beat Yids at home and this result will be forgotten .

I think this is the worst defeat in my 35 years watching villa., I remember 7-1 at Chelsea and 6-0 at forest.

We lost by a similar score to this lot a few years back. I undestand that this information doesn't make matters better and that you may have made efforts to forget it.
