Another request going out for some Villa memories please for a superb project my brother is running which uses sporting memories as an aid for people with dementia and depression. Almost collated 1,000 memories since launching the site 6 months ago and would love a few Villa ones to reach the magic figure.
Damon has contributed a superb memory.

Remember going to a villa AGM once when the Bendalls were in charge. We were sat in the Witton lane stand . Who should come in and sit in front of us......Only Ron Saunders. He commented that the Bendalls had brought 'Rent a mob'. The irony being that he was with the two biggest minders i had ever seen.

Indeed. It's superb, Brian.
My old chap will enjoy that; McParland was and is still his all-time favourite Villa player too. I've just sent him the link.

Tell him he's more than welcome to add his own memory, the more the merrier!

But not accurate. Stan Lynn did not score a hat trick against Bert Trautman of Man City.
I think Brian is thinking of the famous hat trick Stan scored against Sunderland in 1958 against Willie Fraser if my memory serves me well.
That was the first hat trick by a full back in the top flight. I was there and it rained non stop throughout the match.
Stan also finished top scorer for the Blues around the 1962 (I think) season once again from right back!
He could strike a ball harder than anyone I have ever seen.

Well, here I am. Living in Alcester, it wasn't often we got to go Villa Park back in the 50's. My dad, fbriai's grand-dad, took me to my first game when I was 5 or 6. Not sure which. Anyway we beat Burnley 2-0 around '52 time. My only recollection is of being totally overawed by the crowd. I had never seen anything like it, I don't think I saw anything of the game just sat looking at the crowd.
A few games that stick in my memory from those early years were a 4-4 draw with the Busby Babes, I think we came back from 4-2 down and at 4-4 a Villa goalbound shot hit Dave Hickson to stop it being a 5-4 win.
The 2-1 win over the Spurs, in the early 60's, our first against them in about 25 years.
My favourite was a 5-1 win over Man City, with Dennis Law playing for them, just before Christmas '61, I think. The crowd was less than 20,000, but it was pouring with rain and it was a great atmosphere with everyone crammed in under what cover was available. We were stood under the Trinity Road Stand.
Did Stan Lynn not score a hat-trick against Bristol City in a 5-0 win away the week after we beat Charlton 11-1 and the following week beat Scunthorpe 5-0.

I dont think that was Stan It was probably Gerry Hitchens or as a long shot Bobby Thomson or possibly Peter McParland the greatest player I have seen at Villa Park. And that includes Pele!

As is stated above Ron, my all-time favourite too. McParland was very under-rated, his contribution for NI in the '58 World Cup proved his worth and ability.

I've submitted a memory about this game (but they may not publish it given comments made about our opposition!).
Just watch that away end go mental when Daley scores. It gives me goosebumps every time. Those were the days my friend...

Gave me goosebumps as well, seeing that again.

I am still amazed that we arrived at Boundary Park in the next round with little idea of how Oldham would play.
I'd been to watch Latics a few times that season and they played exactly the same format. We were just crap!
The stick I got after that defeat from glory hunting Oldham fans was unreal.

Gerry Hitchens. He also bagged two against Scunthorpe. 10 goals in three games.
That was a great season. It was the one I had my first experience of the magic of a midweek match - against Hull. I was allowed to go as there was no school the next day.
We scraped a 1-1 draw with a Lynn penalty. This would have been Christmas time, we had a 100% home record up to that game. We banged in goals for fun, I think we only lost one at home all season - Doc Pace came back to haunt us with a hat trick for Sheff U.
Hitchens, Peter McP and Bobby Thomson all finished with 20ish goals.
