Available Saturday evening.
-
Hallo Hallo, Villa are back, Villa are back.
The magic of the pie continues.
-
Woo-hoo!
-
Fantastico
-
Ace.
-
Fantastic win! Just nine points off fourth now!!!
-
Oh yes that is wonderful. Benteke is a beast, Weimann is quality! Brilliant.
-
Sign Benteke to a very long contract. Now.
-
Unbelievable. We're the best. Fuck everyone else.
-
Have we got a good team again, then?!
-
Great win
-
FUCKING MAGIC VILLA. JUST FUCKING MAGIC!!!!!
-
Unbelievable. We're the best. Fuck everyone else.
What he said.
-
Tremendous result
Thank you Paul Lambert for getting us some pride back
-
We so badly needed that win, it was critical that we held out for it.
-
sufuckingperb
Benteke magnificent BUT.....Clark, Baker, Herd...you MEN were just immense.
Well done boys.
-
Absolutely brilliant. Phil Thompson looked like he'd been shot when the third goal went in lol
-
QP ha ha ha ha ha winning means all we'll hear about is Redtwat.
Listened to it all on Absolute, sounded fantastic & well deserved.
-
If liverpool are targeting a top 2 finish should be be targeting the premier league title? Bit gutted Gerard scored at the end deserve a clean sheet.
-
Brilliant. OK, didn't have much posession, but Liverpool never really looked like scoring. Guzan didn't have a great deal to do.
Great goals. Great victory. Confidence is coming. The players look happy. Even N'Zogbia ran when he came on - think he ran more in 90 seconds than he did last season.
-
Take off the dodgy first 20 minutes after that we were excellent.
-
...and relax !!! (smug self-satisfied grin thingy)
-
Three great goals against the run of play but the real heroes were the defence today - stood firm against pretty much 90 minutes of sustained pressure. Brilliant
-
Brilliant we needed that what a player Benteke is the lads were outstanding every one of them.
-
Brilliant 10-1 Villa win with Williams..and 15-1 Benteke scoring..1-3 was oh my God..great stuff.
said it before game.
-
I knew we'd tank someone soon.. but I had no idea it'd be Liverpool.
Fantastic.
Everyone played a blinder.
-
Fookin have that you useless red twats. From about the half hour mark we were absolutely brilliant: slick and incisive on the counter, tireless and brave in midfield and just outstanding at the back. Clark and Baker in particular were immense.
We scored two very good goals and one great one and even a scruffy skidmark of a Liverpool goal doesn't take the gloss off a brilliant day. The ref had a very good game and it's only because he was so tolerant that that mouthy arsehole Suarez didn't talk himself into the book a lot earlier.
Today more than makes up for the disappointment of the Man U game.
-
To all those who predicted a Villa win, to all those I pooh-poohed, please accept my unreserved and wholehearted apologies.
Get in there Villa, and keep proving me wrong.
-
I had to miss a fair old chunk of the second half, but really enjoyed what I saw. The way the American "soccer experts" were harping on at half-time, you'd have thought we were leading at the Camp Nou. Well played though lads, I'm off to raise a cider in your honour.
Fair play to the Liverpool fans for applauding Petrov too.
-
Glad we're still 8 points ahead of QPR Harry's got them doing well.
-
I could watch that 2nd goal again, and again, and again. Fucking brilliant
-
That will do very fucking nicely!
-
Fantastic -great goals , superb defence and every player a star - enjoy the evening , great day to be a villa fan!
-
If we can't fly up the league after the week we've just had, I give up.
Brilliant by everyone.
-
4 points behind a Liverpool side that are targeting the top 2. Champions League here we come!!!
-
Apart from Chelsea, no win is sweeter than against these classless, racist, bindipping twats
-
oh, and shove that up your fucking pooh pipe Lawrenson.
-
In a season of ups and downs, I think we can safely call that one of the 'ups'!!
-
I hope Hansen and Lawrenson are on MOTD.
-
https://twitter.com/RAWK_Meltdown This twitter account finds the best from RAWK & shares it. I imagine it'll be good today.
-
I think a journey over to RAWK might be required...
-
Apart from Chelsea, no win is sweeter than against these classless, racist, bindipping twats
Just this 100%
-
Apart from Chelsea, no win is sweeter than against these classless, racist, bindipping twats
That's for next week!
-
Teams don't expect the way we pass so well and they certainly cant contain Benteke. Get in a nice early Christmas present!
-
I've just missed out on £710 in a soccer six. Got five right. Guess who let me down.
-
The second goal is breathtaking. Created by The Belguim Powerhouse finished clinically by Weimann.
Mind you there were top class performances everywhere. Bannan probably had his best ever game for the club.
But Benteke is from another planet.
Andy Carroll 35mil Christian Benteke 7mil Deal or No Deal?
-
Just fantastic! getting hit by a Liverpool fan as we speak!
-
Unbelievable. We're the best. Fuck everyone else.
Love it! But you're bang on!
-
He is an absolute fucking monster. Probably the best week we've had at the club for about 3 years, I fucking love football.
-
someone on the match thread has villa to win 2-1 with Benteke to get the first at 250/1 #fuckingutted
-
/smug mode
After seeing Villa again, I'm going to up my prediction.
We are going to win this game upward of 4-0. I suspect 5-0, although 6-0 wouldn't be an unreasonable prediction. Villa are easily the worst side that I've ever seen in the top flight in decades. They are abysmal all over the pitch. No cohesion, no belief, no guts, no ability, no desire.
This, my friends, is going to be an absolute battering come the weekend. Villa are going to get absolutely pounded into the floor.
This will be the easiest game that Brendan Rodgers will ever have for this club.
-
How much is Benteke worth?
Do you think we can hold onto him?
-
Brilliant!! Even Garth Crooks was raving about us on final score. Up the Villa.
-
Weimann and Benteke seem to have a great understanding together, hope they get a run of games. Apart from the collapse at City in the second half, weve been doing better and better recently, keep it going you young lions. UTV.
-
Jingle bells, jingle bells... Christmas has come early!
The corner has been turned! We're finally waking up from the nightmare of the last two-and-half years.
-
How much is Benteke worth?
Do you think we can hold onto him?
All depend were we finish in the 2012/13 season. Recon we'll have till then!
-
I'm going to get shit faced tonight. Thanks boys!
-
Wonderful.

I think the crowd can have a big part in his.
We have got to get the message to him how much we love him, we have to turn him into a 'Villa man', it can be done.

Yeah, I think he'll be off in the Summer if he keeps his form up.
-
Does Vlaar come back into the side when fit? If yes, for who?
-
Get in.
Watched an American feed, did the guy in the studio say Villa beat Norwichshire midweek ?
-
Does Vlaar come back into the side when fit? If yes, for who?
No from me.
-
I'd rather concentrate on his and the team's performance today rather than be negative and worry about what may or may not happen in x amount of years.
-
Get in.
Watched an American feed, did the guy in the studio say Villa beat Norwichshire midweek ?
I think he said Norwich shite.
-
For those of a younger age that is what supporting Villa is all about , sticking the predictions right up their hairy smug arses, he has taken a while to sort out the defense, the monster was always going to cause problems, Bent sell him now injured or not because Wieman will be better, invest the money spunk face Harry will give us and upwards and onwards, because this bloke PL knows what he is doing Happy Christmas AVFC.
-
Does Vlaar come back into the side when fit? If yes, for who?
no , but its a nice problem to have.
-
Liverpool finished second today though eh Brendan?
-
I'd rather concentrate on his and the team's performance today rather than be negative and worry about what may or may not happen in x amount of years.
Agreed. Also, if we do ever sell him, imagine what Lambert could do with the proceeds, which will be at least three Bentekes' worth.
-
Early xmas present, and the best present i could have hoped for.
-
Liverpool finished second today though eh Brendan?
I'm glad he made that prediction. And I'd like to commend the SSN expert pundits for their superb predictions.
-
I hope Hansen and Lawrenson are on MOTD.
Dya think we will be on last after Stoke v Everton?!
-
Even better because of the rat in the background.

I think the crowd can have a big part in his.
We have got to get the message to him how much we love him, we have to turn him into a 'Villa man', it can be done.
Logic says that his agent should give him a couple of seasons at Villa to really get his EPL stock as high as possible. Then, wait and see where the Villa are - if they're flying and have genuine Chumps League prospectgs, he may stay.
Reality says he will probably be under incredible pressure to move on; not least, from the southern-biased media who will be posing the question "why would Benteke stay at lowly Villa?".
But we don;t know what Benteke's relationship with Lambert and the asquad is like; which imay have some beairng on things.
-
Pubehead loses.
We win at at Anfield 3.1.
I had £10 on us winning 3.1 at 125 to 1.
If Carlsberg..............
-
Well, that was OK I suppose
-
If Caroll of the alice band is worth 35 mill, the monster is worth twice that, we thought Carew was on playable , this guy is class from start to finish and Andy is learning very quickly where to be to appreciate that class.
-
We're game of the day on Sky at 8.25
-
How much is Benteke worth?
Do you think we can hold onto him?
£20m as things stand today and I am worried Chelsea keep going on about finding another Drogba and they may come for him.
-
I've just missed out on £710 in a soccer six. Got five right. Guess who let me down.
I wasn't going to admit it but guess what my five-fold went down on???

Wow ! So did anyone take the ridiculous amazing offer of benteke to score anytime and villa to win @ 20/1 Liverpool continue to be overrated i look forward to motd comments !
-
Game of the day ladies and gents on Sky

Agreed. Also, if we do ever sell him, imagine what Lambert could do with the proceeds, which will be at least three Bentekes' worth.
Really? Benteke cost £7m so you think we'll get at least £21m for Bent - we'll be lucky to get half that.
-
Feckin marvellous afternoon of football, 7 in last 2 games too.

No one was talking about Bent.
-
How quickly they fucking turn.
They have just talked about the game for 6-7 mins on final score and it was all Villa.
Suddenly we are a young, vibrant, dynamic team and thouroughly dereserved our win and are going places.
They were teling us how shit we are recently.

Fair point - got confused!
-
PWS I was if some player thinks he has got a guaranteed start because he cost upwards of 18 mill yet we are twice the team without him in, cash in and invest in more of the same Yes please.
-
The youngest Villa team to play in the Premier League beat Michael Owen's tip for a Champions League spot. Happy Christmas everyone.
Top class from Lambert with his tactics and the players for their execution and team performance. We've been quite solid for a while now but today we looked really threatening when we countered them. That's the worst Liverpool defence I can remember - they looked vulnerable in so many of our attacks. We could have added to the 3. Excellent for such a young side that will just get better and better over the next few years.

Cilla Black, Ken Dodd, Samuel L. Jackson, Sir Paul McCartney, Jimmy Corkhill, Stan Boardman - we have beaten them all. Mel C can you hear me? Your boys took a hell of a beating!

I'm going to get a pen and write AVFC on my cock.
-
Is there a more exciting young strike pairing than Benteke and Weimann in the Premier League at the moment?
-
So happy again this evening and bloody proud of the kids!
People might need to start dusting off those "Proud History Bright Future" scarves!
-
I've covered miles this afternoon, pacing up and down - Radio in the kitchen, TV in the front room, H&V match thread on the laptop... Feel as if I have played in the defence as well!
What a cracker of a result! My neighbours know I'm happy! UTV!
-
Stan now on Talkshite receiving calls from bindippers slagging Rodgers off, get it on folks!
-
I'm going to get a pen and write AVFC on my cock.
I'm going to do the same, only mine will say "Aston Villa Football Club, by far the greatest team the world has ever seen".

You must have small handwriting..
-
Only just seen this on the BBC website:
•Aston Villa's starting XI today was the youngest seen in the Premier League this season so far - they averaged 23 years, 309 days old.
-
Brazil, its just like watching Brazil...
-
I'd rather concentrate on his and the team's performance today rather than be negative and worry about what may or may not happen in x amount of years.
If Bentekes true value is £7m then we'll be lucky to get £3m for Bent!
I'd guess we'd get £12m for Bent but if that gives us three players of the calibre to match Lowton, Westwood and Vlaar I'd be happy.
Agreed. Also, if we do ever sell him, imagine what Lambert could do with the proceeds, which will be at least three Bentekes' worth.
Really? Benteke cost £7m so you think we'll get at least £21m for Bent - we'll be lucky to get half that.

Has anyone headed over to RAWK yet? Those fecking arseholes... we will win 6-0 bollocks and arse you bindipping bastards.
The second goal has to be goal of the month.
Can someone tell me how the second half went? I lost my bottle after watching the first and went out, convinced we would crumble again. So fucking happy now.
And my pen ran out after AVF honest. Nothing to do with size. No siree.

He will stay as we are going to be winning silverware.
-
Fun fact of the day. This is the first time an away side has scored 3 at Anfield in the league since ............ Liverpool 1 - 3 Aston Villa 2009.
-
I like this, from The Guardian:
Villa's forwards will take the plaudits for their four passes that pierced the Liverpool defence and saw the Austrian forward sweep home Benteke's exquisite back-heel across the penalty area. The credit runs much deeper, however, with Bannan, Ashley Westwood and others involved in an 18-touch move before Weimann struck.
As the goalscorer and creator celebrated in one corner, Westwood turned the other way to applaud the team-mates behind.
-
Entertaining few minutes trawling RAWK.
Lots of wailing and gnashing of teeth coupled with outrageous indignation that they could possibly let such a shit team of nobodies beat them. Villa....fucking Villa!
-
Bids will start for Benteke this January I reckon. Can't see us clinging on for much more that end of next season, but the fee should ensure we are able to replace him. 30 million minimum I tell you, the guy is a beast, and would be worth every penny. Skillful and powerful, can finish.
-

It's ace over there.
"I really thought the West Ham game was the turning point, with the run of 5-6 games we have, we were bound to push on and really start playing and playing well.
And then Villa came to Anfield....... fucking Villa."
-
18 touch move, bit like our goal at Norwich.
-
Obviously Benteke and Wiemann deserve plaudits but I am loving our defending. And counter attack too.
But a big'un to the fans again- kept that over rated pit of thieves quiet and it was all Villa noise from what I saw/heard on the tributary I got.
-
We just lost 3-1 at home to Villa ffs, VILLA!! Not like it's anyone decent
Finally saw some decent football at Anfield today, only problem was it came from Villa.
-
Fun fact of the day. This is the first time an away side has scored 3 at Anfield in the league since ............ Liverpool 1 - 3 Aston Villa 2009.
Cor that's a stat attack, right enough. Superb.

Some funny comments onb there, fair play to them.
'One bit of football is about scoring goals. Another bit is about not letting in goals. We seem to be building a team that is good at all the other bits'.
'That was so bad that all the fans who normally leave early to beat the traffic stayed late tonight'.
-
I bet the dressing room was buzzing after the match. Two big confidence boosters this week.
Well done lads.

As the move unfolded I was on the blower to my dad, in mid sentance to him I stopped and said well played Westy, lovely Barry, ooo over hit that Andy tough angle... OOOOOOOooooo.... we have scored goal of the bloody season.
Someone posted the goal we scored under Ron years ago through Yorke at VP and we marveled at the passing and movement. This move was just as good. Phenomenal goal. Hopefully the patience some have had on here will continue, as long term I really think Lambert will bring more days like this.

Dennis Mortimer would applaud goals, he's in good company.
-
Congratulations to our young Lions on that performance - very proud
Also congratulations to my little brother Jonny Howell who had a cheeky £2.50 on Benteke first goal Villa 3-1 @ 475 to 1. Happy Days
Note to self must take note of his 'silly text bets in future'
-
They can talk sense over on RAWK too:
"Paul Lambert is in the exact same position as brendan rodgers. He's trying to rebuild a team, while cutting his squad back, and relying on youngsters. he's trying too drill them in a way of playing, and sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. You have your good and your bad days. Today was a good day for villa. Today was a bad day for us. We aren't as bad as the first five games made us look, and we're not quite as good as the next 11 games made us look either. We'll have good and bad days until our players are more experienced, and we've got a better squad.
Villa have had a lot of bad days so far this season, but by all accounts the Villa fans are largely behind lambert, and believe in his project. They kind of have to, anyone would look like a genius beside McLeish. But they've had to be very patient. We would do well to do the same. Yes we got done today, but we have to pick up and start again. If we'd won, we'd have gone seventh, two points off fourth. But we didn't. It's important not to lose the head just because we lost again.
This season is all about stopping the rot, and laying the foundations for the next couple of seasons, we're not going to get anywhere if we start to go crazy everytime we hit a bump in the road.
That said, it would be easier to be patient if the manager didn't talk about second place. They have sergio aguero, carlos tevez and edin dzeko. we won't be catching them anytime soon, so talking like this leaves you looking ridiculous. If someone is excessively positive all the time, people start to think you're unhinged. BR needs to dial back the positivity a bit, giving praise when it's due, and talking up the future, but er, perhaps not so much"

Unbelievable win
Thought we were hopeless early on with Clark particularly and Baker standing between us and a hiding but even in the first 30 mins when we attacked we looked dangerous. Bentekes first was a carbon copy of his goal against Norwich. That settled us down. Lucas lack of fitness was well and truly exploited by our lads. Second goal was just brilliant. Third goal Drogba esque. Benteke embarrassed Liverpool today. Ably supported by Weimann who was busy and the one thing about him is he gets in great positions. Thought Clark was outstanding . Baker a beast physically. Sterling didn't want to know after that tackle. Lowton is developing nicely. Bannan had a fine game. Totally out shining Joe Allen.
Negatives, Eric Lichaj early on was a bombscare at left back. Improved in the second half but we need a better player there. Herd gave the ball away continuously. I'd be bringing Vlaar back in there to be honest. Thought Westwood was a bit quiet also. But only minor quibbles on Paul Lambert's best day as Villa manager
-
Benteke? Why should we let go of a goal-scoring and goal-making genius..for any money??
-
Back atcha, Eamonn! :)
-
its so exciting what Lamberts doing at Villa,
anyone that cant see it maybe ought to take up watching another sport, because they obviously dont understand anything about football
-
Second MOTD apparently.
-
I only caught the second half, but I bloody love Weimann. His enthusiasm is great to see.
To think 8 months ago a load of us (me included) were complaining about the lack of likeable characters in our squad.
-
Fun fact of the day. This is the first time an away side has scored 3 at Anfield in the league since ............ Liverpool 1 - 3 Aston Villa 2009.
The night I found out I was going to be a dad.
2 and a half years later he's just called his grandad (a palace fan) to sing "Villa, cha-cha-cha" down the line.
-

Bang on John.
-
Whilst Benteke especially, and Weimann, will quite rightly take the plaudits a moment to praise the defence. In particular I thought Nathan Baker was absolutely superb. One great challenge that was old school centre-half on Sterling on the half-way line and another on Shelvey has he's about to shoot in front of goal. Great performance from him.
-
They can talk sense over on RAWK too:
BR needs to dial back the positivity a bit, giving praise when it's due, and talking up the future, but er, perhaps not so much"
That is a very good post.
-
I like this, from The Guardian:
Villa's forwards will take the plaudits for their four passes that pierced the Liverpool defence and saw the Austrian forward sweep home Benteke's exquisite back-heel across the penalty area. The credit runs much deeper, however, with Bannan, Ashley Westwood and others involved in an 18-touch move before Weimann struck.
As the goalscorer and creator celebrated in one corner, Westwood turned the other way to applaud the team-mates behind.
Love that. Westwood seems to be a great team player. He described himself as like Carrick and his style is similar, but he's much more vocal and a real driving force for the whole team.
-

Cor that's a stat attack, right enough. Superb.
Indeed. I think our last 3 Anfield victories have all been 1-3. The first being a few days before 9/11. So I was a bit disappointed/greedy when Gerrard (who, still, always scores against us) pulled one back today. Minor detail though, it's 3 points to be savoured.

We could have the greatest manager ever and win everything and he'd still find something to whinge and moan about!
-
Match of the Day will not only be watched tonight, I'm recording it. I do hope Lawro and Hansen are on.
This.
The missus is out, so peace and quiet to savour the awesomeness that is Aston Villa.
-
Our record at Anfield over the past ten years or so can't be too bad?
-
This is one of those days when its just fantastic to be a Villa fan!
Special praise to the WHOLE team... you win as a team and lose as a team, together we stand!
-
I said on the pre-match thread that I couldn't see us breaking down Liverpool and I'm delighted to say they proved me wrong big style. As for Liverpool, I know they've been on the slide for a few years but not having watched MOTD for a very long time I wasn't aware how threadbare their side is these days.
Only Johnson (coming forward) and Suarez looked decent for them today. Gerrard is a shadow of his former self, Downing had a great first 20 minutes and then disappeared as the going got tough. The rest were totally anonymous. Bringing on Joe Cole and Jordan Henderson did nothing for them and those two alone have cost them big big money in terms of salary and fee respectively.
Conversely, all of our players had good games, with the possible exception of Lichaj but even he showed a bit of mongrel and did his bit in the excellent defensive display. Interesting that such a superb result was achieved without Bent, Ireland, N'Zogbia and Dunne.

That RAWK lot are a deluded lot. There's a few on there who have a clue what they are on about but in the main they know nothing outside what they see on TV or read in the papers. Villa are a poor side are they? a Villa side that are now unbeaten in 6 is it?
Any way this made me laugh when referring to the Liverpool team currently.
"we're like a cow which gives 2 buckets of milk and then spills them both".
Well done Villa and very well done Mr Lambert, I'm enjoying the project.

We really needs an input from Saunders heroes to find out where we fucked up today?
-
Have to say we rode our luck the 1st 20 minutes, but after that, 3 quality goals, the 2nd especially.
Few observations, for me Baker, MOM, great block on Jonjon, whatever his name is, when 0-0, and some fantastic defensive headers when under pressure.Bannan really impressed me today as well, overshadowed Westwood today, kept the ball well, but defensively very good.
CB.........the Big Fooker, if Suarez is worth £40m, how much is this guy worth.Hold on to him as long as we can, but if we keep improving as we are, and i see no reason why not with this manager, and he is building up a good relationship with Weimann.
What an odious little prick Suarez is as well, and whats happened to Stevie G?

Fabulous afternoon - great goals and defence like lions- confidence must be sky high and with the addition of a couple more quality signings in January we have the makings of a very good few months ahead , top 10 finish a Wembley final and silverware topped off by a place in Europe - good times ahead I believe!

Just heard that, I thought Liverpool fans knew their stuff?
One clown was at Stafford Services, he must be lost.

Yes Risso enjoy today and you have been right as much in some eyes that you have been wrong, this is a project you have to buy into and yes some of our results and definately points wise it has been hard to buy into at some times, but try and open up because even a blind man can see what he is trying to do, but I think he has had to do it, in a negative way to start with, i.e get them to believe , secondly tighten up and then thirdly where we find ourselves now, believe in each other and go out and enjoy yourself, this could be quite a trip on limited resources.
-
606 is priceless, some bindipper saying they should get Mourinho in.......snigger
They are so incredibly deluded and living in the past. They don't seem to realise that they're not even a top 4 club any more, let alone one that Mourinho would give a second thought to.

Well done Brendan setting us up for a fall think it would be better to keep your gob well and truly shut and please please please
drop your star signing for a game or two he's awful just now Hendo deserves to take his place.
Oh and Raheem go and sign your contract because it looks like it's affecting your game......Well done Villa you fought like tigers
and it looked like there was proper unity in your team unlike ours who were awful in attack and defence.

Our collection of foreigners from shite leagues, not-good-enough kids and lower-league shite etc. etc etc.

Anyway, what a fantastic win it was today, a lot of commentators said we started slowly but the 1st goal galvanised us. Sounds very much to me like a moment of magic from Benteke set us up for this win. Looking forward to Hansen and Motson sorry faces tonight, loving the thought of MOTD!
However, we have 4 huge games over christmas and new year, 7/8 points is a real possibility throughout those games, its important we now keep our feet on the ground and if next week doesn't go to plan, we stick behind the team
Not many of the usual moaners out tonight is there, H and V is a very happy place after results like this!

They're mainly a bunch of muppets from Thailand, Norway or the Home Counties who haven't got a clue what they're on about. They get fed a load of BS about how Liverpool are a footballing monolith, ready to take the world by storm, ignoring the fact that (bar a flukey European Cup win, in a season when they weren't even the best team in their city) they've been largely irrelevant for the last twenty years.
Listen to the prick on the radio saying they should get rid of Rodgers and bring in Mourinho. Just about says it all. They're in a very similar position to us right now (though their academy isn't a patch on ours) and the best thing they can do is give Rodgers a bit of time. With a bit of luck, they might be able to challenge the top 4 in a few years if they can hold on to their decent young players and get rid of all the overpaid tat like Mrs Downing.

Very true. The most important thing is perspective, we need to keep our feet on the ground as much as we need to not get to down after a tanking. But it's been a while since I've genuinely liked our squad this much.
-
I appreciate Liverpools 19th minute support. fair play. But I hope I dont seem churlish if I now go and enjoy the RAWK meltdown. :)
-
From Red And White Kop!!!
"Poor defending for their goals, Credit to Villa they defended well
We need to learn how to play against these "park the bus" counter teams"
Can you believe their arrogance.

Paul Lambert on Anfield win.
Paul Lambert hailed his Young Lions for the way they swept aside Liverpool, saying: "They deserve every bit of credit that's coming their way."
Lambert was absolutely thrilled with the attacking impetus of his side, characterised by the performances of Christian Benteke and Andreas Weimann .
But he also praised the defensive power of the team's dynamic back three of Chris Herd , Ciaran Clark and star man Nathan Baker .
Lambert hopes this result can now be a springboard as Villa eye movement up the Barclays Premier League table.
He said: "I thought we were outstanding again. We are playing really, really well at the moment. I thought we were fantastic.
"We looked a threat with Christian and Andi up front and I thought we deserved to win the game.
"The back three lads are just getting better and better. Look at the age of them. Collectively we were outstanding. The back three lads were absolutely brilliant.
"The group deserve every bit of credit that's coming their way. They have been absolutely brilliant since I have been at the club.
"We have been fantastic. I can't speak highly enough of them. They have given it everything they have got. Hopefully now we can continue to climb this table.
"Also I thought it was thoroughly deserved. The goals were outstanding - especially the second goal which was world-class move and the finish was excellent.
"The lads have been unfairly criticised - they are too young, they won't stay up, that sort of thing.
"But at the end of the day, there's a long, long way to go. I have the belief that these lads will go out and perform.
"Their energy is second-to-none, they give it a right good go but they are also a threat. I know what I see every single day.
"The lads have been great. I knew what I was getting. I just needed a bit of time for them to get adjusted. They have been absolutely brilliant for me."
Lambert stopped short of saying the Anfield victory was the best result during his time in charge of the claret and blue troops, insisting instead that he's been happy with the performance levels since Sunderland.
He added: "Best performance? There have been a few!
"Since Sunderland we have been very, very good. We couldn't hold on against Man Utd but the performance was very good, Man City turned us over and we were excellent against Arsenal.
"I have been delighted. You can see from the crowd reaction what it means. They were unbelievable on Tuesday. Today they were great too."
-
I am pleased Paul didn't say " we keep going"

"Heartbroken just heartbroken. We do so many things really well but we lack discipline on counters and are just so so blunt in attack. Just going to enjoy the rest of the season and not set expectations. Brendan has a lot of work to do but I'm fully behind him. You don't win titles playing like Aston Villa but you can with our blueprint. I say blueprint because we are lacking some key personnel to make it work.
Just want to give a mention to Downing today thought he played very well."
Ha!
What a fucking twat.
-
Yes SEVEN goals... The last time was away wins at Boro and Blackburn I think?
-
From RAWK :Terrible performance , Downing the best player on the pitch.
Beautiful, just beautiful.
-
Even more impressive, those two away games were Norwich and we gave them their only defeat in 12. And the dippers, giving them only their second defeat in 11 league games. Two of the most in form sides in the country and we twatted them.
I've had worse weeks as a Villa fan.
-

Yup.. don't win titles by winning games away 1 - 3. :| That just isn't good football. Now, losing at home 1 - 2, that's title winning football.

I went to Norwich after deciding on Monday, and I've been buzzing all week.
I get the feeling we'll look back on that night in a few years as the moment it all clicked.

So, Brendan Rodgers isn't sure what his team need to do to get a penalty this season.
You need your players to be fouled instead of throwing themselves on to the floor whenever there's a breeze, then setting your racist on to the referee, you giant bellend,

Kind of makes Rodgers comments about us pushing on and aiming higher than forth spot pretty embarrassing now doesn't it?"
This is brilliant stuff.

I like this answer and indeed many of the "indirect" answers he gives. He's not one for over-praising something without giving balance. He's always very circumspect and I imagine that translates into his methods and training where every player must feel they have a chance if they work their socks off for him.
Another interesting stat is we've used more players than any other team, bar Newcastle I think, this season. A mixture of him trying to find the right blend and still keeping everyone involved (er, Bent now and then excepted) and fighting for a place.

Highlights (http://www.101greatgoals.com/gvideos/liverpool-1-aston-villa-3-high-quality-highlights/)
-
In the summer, when Rodgers, Martinez and Lambert were the three hot managerial properties, I remember posting on a friend's facebook that Lambert was the best of the three.
Beginning to think I called it right. Liverpool did look a bit naive today whereas we always seem to have a sharp focus and stick to our game-plan. Also, Lambert just went out and brought in five or six absolute gems. I don't think Rodgers has really started to change much at Anfield. Look at the speed with which Lambert has cleared out our deadwood and created a flexible playing style? Liverpool look like they aren't fitting a style that takes a long time to master.
A third 3-1 win at Anfield in eleven years. Not bad. Not bad at all and still they question how they could lose to us? We must remind them again next time we play!

This is where it begins, lads and lasses. The Dortmund blueprint thing is starting to take shape. In four years' time, Villa will be back among the big boys.
Lambert is most definitely the man. Randy got it spot on when he appointed him.
-
With the likes of nzogbia ,Bennett and Vlaar back to fitness it will add to the options and players like Delph also look to have found some form too, extremely good times ahead I feel and things will only get better.

Not sure without champions league money we can get back in the top bracket of clubs who have huge financial backing but certainly I think lambert can get us back into the top 5 or 6 clubs given time - this team will get better and better .

I really love this team.
edit: Watching it again, Holman's run actually opens up a yard for Benteke at the crucial moment.
Fantastic stuff.

When Brendan Rodgers said he thought Liverpool could finish 2nd, I didn't realise he meant in every game!!!

Just watched the highlights and thought the third goal was impressive as well.
Robbing the ball in midfield and then The Beast powering forward to score with relative ease.
Have had family members ringing to say how excited they are about the result - just like the old days!

Excellent comedic work, fellas. My wife thought that was hilarious when I read it to her. No doubt she also felt smug, since I managed to squeeze on the full names and dates of birth of all 13 players used in 1980-1.

Robbie Savage was not at our mercy on 606, because he is on the red button commentary for Strictly. What a loathsome nonce.

Yes but the trick is to keep our crop together. If we don't lose players to moneybags than we will be there. It is easier for German clubs to keep good players as they have only one predatory club we have three or four.

Any links to the goals?

Excellent comedic work, fellas. My wife thought that was hilarious when I read it to her. No doubt she also felt smug, since I managed to squeeze on the full names and dates of birth of all 13 players used in 1980-1.
only the one season then?

I'm going to get a pen and write AVFC on my cock.
I'm going to do the same, only mine will say "Aston Villa Football Club, by far the greatest team the world has ever seen".
Same here, but I have included 'we are..'

Just.

You need to squeeze in another one because we used 14!

What a fantastic week, oh so happy, cannot wait for MOTD, well done to Paul and the players.
-
Even more impressive, those two away games were Norwich and we gave them their only defeat in 12. And the dippers, giving them only their second defeat in 11 league games. Two of the most in form sides in the country and we twatted them.
I've had worse weeks as a Villa fan.
Agree. Wonder what's happened but something seems to have clicked into place ?
-
I'm over the moon, last season we had Mc Leish, Hutton and Dunne (with the like of Weimann, Clark and Bannan on the bench), now we have Lambert, Lowton, Westwood and Benteke, anf the likes pf Weimann, Clark and Bannan in the starting XI!
-
Just breaking out the celebratory Smirnoff, and to top it off nicely, my sons mate won £4700 on Benteke to score first in a 3-1 win for us( 470/1)!.
Great stuff Ken, fantastic news!

"The group deserve every bit of credit that's coming their way. They have been absolutely brilliant since I have been at the club. We have been fantastic. I can't speak highly enough of them. They have given it everything they have got. Hopefully now we can continue to climb this table. Also I thought it was thoroughly deserved.
For me, this really demonstrates what Lambert & Co expect and are trying to instill at Villa - hard work and dedication every day. The players have "adjusted" to playing the ball on the ground, neat one-twos, moving into space, supporting each other and wanting the ball. The one thing we were missing but you sense it every game is the growing confidence, something you can't buy.
We may be the hardest working team in the Premier League but we're not restricted to just hard work. Every Villa player is also expected to technically perform and it's a joy to watch them develop.
Mourinho has always talked about the "collective" of his teams and what we're seeing now is a great example of that concept. It will be interesting to see who he brings in during the transfer window but one thing is for sure, they'll need, no matter who they are, how much they cost or how much experience they have, to have the right attitude.
I for one am loving this Villa journey.

the last couple of results will surely result in some humble pie by some folk on here, usually their short sightedness and knee jerk reactions show they are just that, jerks.

One of the joys of today is the bucket of shit it throws all over the media. I'm not on about panto twats like Savage but programmes like MOTD with their awful punditry. You just know that they will be doing their homework now on some of our players, having dismissed us as an irrelevance so far. They should be knowledgeable about ALL teams, not just the lazy, easy eye on those at the top.
Of course the focus will be on Liverpool and their misgivings, but I will allow myself a wry smile at how pissed off Lawro and Hanson will be at having to do some work.
Today was a big Fuck You, and I loved it.

Just seen the goals, have to say Benteke may become the best centre forward I have ever seen at Villa, and that is some feat. Lets hope he stays with us long enough, somehow I doubt it

I think I caught earlier that it was going to be Lawro and dimwit Shearer tonight, so unlikely to be as entertaining as if Hanson was there, which is okay as I'll be in the pub anyway.

I haven't seen the game, but judging by these stats Guzan must have had a blinder.
Though I have read that "these stats are pretty misleading. While Liverpool technically had a lot of shots on goal, the amount of decent saves Guzan had to make was minimal. I'd actually say Villa had more clear cut chances, hence the better conversion rate."

He definitely didn't make 17 goal stopping saves!

The majority sounded pretty routine on the radio.
-
Guzan was Guzan - calm, assured, competent. He's brilliant at times, but didn't have to be today. What a signing.

A good afternoon all round, was playing tennis with a bindipper, who was stunned to hear the 1/2 time score , & left very swiftly when we went 3-0 , oh, & he lost in straight sets !

Game, set and match. You should have went easy on your big first serve though.
-
While everyone is praising Benteke to the hilt perhaps Chris Herd, Nathan Baker, and Ciaran Clark should be sharing some of his praise.
All three were magnificent for all ninety minutes.
-
Another good stat. Our starting XI today was the youngest seen in the Premier League this season so far - they averaged 23 years, 309 days old. Heroes.
-
As well as Westwood, Weimann etc etc
-
What did our starting line up cost today? As well as being one of the youngest I bet it's also very cheap. £10m-£12m?
-
Basking in the afterglow of a magnificent performance and enjoying a healthy indulgence of Schadenfreude washed down by copious quantities of beer whilst listening to The Black Keys.

Knocking back a few Cidres and watching football 1st, bursting with pride, fans sounded fantastic today, the 19th minute was extremely well observed.
Benteke witha great finish and a fantastic backpass for the 2nd. Liverpool had possesion but our defence was fantastic!
YIPPI AYYY YIPPI OOOOOO!

Holman, Clark, Baker, Guzan, Lichaj, Herd, Bannan, and Weimann all cost nothing.
Lowton - 3 million
Benteke - 7 million
Westwood - 2 million
So I'm going to assume £12 million? Could be wrong. If so this means that Stewart Downing cost almost twice our entire team that beat him 3-1.
-
My first celebratory beer of the evening. Here's to you, the Claret & Blue!

Listening to re-run of 6-0-6 as missed due to early evening meal with the Missus. Hilarious one of the Bindippers said go and get Mourinho - they couldn't afford 6m for Dempsey - how are they going to afford him on £10-£12m per year?
Idiot.
Plenty of cold beer stocked in the fridge and already puting a dent it. Beer that is.
-
Admiral's.
That's the one downside, i've got to buy another one during the week. Getting sick of the taste of them!
-
It was fantastic at Anfield today, the Villa contingent sang almost continuously. Not a peep from the 'The Mighty Reds YNWA' fans.
Gutted I can't get to Chelsea next week and very surprised no one has made me an offer for my two spare tickets.
-
Be brave.
-
Watching it now on Sky. Tremendous stuff. Never a penalty. Downing looking better for Lplop but he wouldn't make our first team any more.
Excellent as we were today, we still concede possession too easily.
Our away support superb as usual.

Be brave.
I'm trying to be, the things we do for the Villa!

I'd very much like to be at Chelski, but theres no way on this earth I can afford 40/50 quid JUST for the ticket a week before Christmas...

Superb today everyone of our young players deserves there place

Happier with this result than I was with the Norwich one, for some weird reason.
Individually, that back 3/5 looks suspect. Well perhaps suspect is the wrong word, raw/ green. But the key seems to be they know each other. Clark and Baker came through at the same time, and Herd gives us mobility at the back. We seem to have found a formation that suits us.
I hope Benteke is with us for at least 2/3 years.
-

By the way I have moved a couple of times since the address you have. I now live at number 1 High Street,

Why was Benteke booked? Did something happen after Glen Johnson tripped him over after ball, incidentally, when did being tripped over become a foul?

As Old Pube Head once put it; terrific!

According to WM he raised his hands to Johnson.

Don'cha wish your striker was Ben-te-ke, don'cha!
that is absolutely class. has it been adopted by the villa masses?

Lambert continues to have Rogers' card marked. Norwich did the double over Swansea last year, and now this.

I have that 2nd Goal on constant repeat thanks to the earlier posting during the match. That is Football Porn. (Like Wellbeck v Sweden).

Can't wait for match of the day as I haven't seen any proper footage of the game yet. It's ace to be looking forward to MOTD.

And it did appear he did. Hopefully MoTD will show our game for longer than a nano second and we will be able to see.
-
That is a quality win - the youngest Premier League side in Villa's history are belying their inexperience at the moment. I still expect us to be up and down all season but I do at last have genuine hope for the future. Well done and take note MO'N all this being done after we were forced to sell 60m of talent and replace it with 20m of hope. I just hope Benteke doesn't become a big bollocks too quickly. A couple of seasons with us will do him no harm whatsoever.
-

On the big screen, you are going to fecking love Benteke tonight mate. Bannan does some lovely stuff today too, hope they show a bit.
And Suarez is a right ugly bastard isn't he! Stop sneering you twat.

We're on second so should be decent highlights. Then again we are talking about the BBC.

No matter what way they try to dress it up (if they do) - we looked absolutely quality! 2nd goal really was all it was hyped up to be
-
Fingers crossed for a decent showing. We deserve it. Our second goal was awesome and the atmosphere fantastic.
-
A very pleasant surprise of a result. I just watched on Football First and the commentator kept repeating how Liverpool could have had a pen for Clark holding Agger, despite the co-commentator (Horne?) pointing out at least twice that Agger also had a hold of Clark and the ref got it right. Tosser.
Benteke really does look like a hell of a find, and that second goal was top notch. We could have a more than decent strike partnership on our hands there. Bannan had one of his better games, some lovely passing.
The ref did well not to let himself get pressured by the handball calls, but should have penalised Johnson for the incident where Benteke was booked.
-
One word for all of this today. Coaching. These boys are trainning hard and getting taught stuff. This hasn't happend at Villa since SBL in my view. We have sadly lacked any significant coaching desire (not ability) for years. What I see with PL is a method and an overiding philosophy of coaching. This will take time to filter through but look how our kids are coming on now.
I am loving it.
-

Good call. Converting Southgate to a centre half (albeit playing alongside the best ever Villa player), playing Taylor centre mid (Price of Darkness played him Wide Right at the Owls), changing formation and making Yorkie the main (man) threat. All good coaching and tactics. We were never as good once Gregory left to manage Wycombe - perfect combo of Little-Gregory-Evans.

This may have been posted elsewhere but I don't have the time or the inclination to check everywhere, but the Liverpool fans were fantastic during the Petrov 19 minute applause. The Kop stood and applauded and the other stands followed. Brought a tear to the eye.

According to RAWK it was a one off result a freak result against the worst villa team ever and we parked the bus hmmmmmmmm poor old scousers

Here we go on MoTD.

We gave it and them coverage and respect. A minute later they were back to being rat eating thieves!

Liverpool fan walks into a travel agent and says "I need a holiday". Travel agent says, "Well you can't beat a great Villa this time of year".
-
What a bloody goal.
-
Well, the MOTD commentator went on about the Liverpool attacker being held despite the fact that the Villa defender was being pulled back as well.
-

Not a word about Liverpool from Lawro or Shearer. Which was nice.

We got some credit for once. Give Big Benteke a massive new long contract now please. He is made for English football and I don't want him to go anywhere else for the time being.
Coaching, coaching, coaching.

Yep the phrase 6 of 1 half a dozen springs to mind. And then when Suarez got booked when it hit our DF chest. 'Well he got that one right.'
Also funny is Johnson's shot was probably going in but StevieMe made sure he took credit for it - just. On 5Live earlier they said it was a deflection at first. I can't stand that overrated twat!
-
Lamberts Lambs are Lions. Every man jack of them.
O.K they aret always the most composed but they make up for it energy and hunger and now one of the best young strike partnerships in the league.
Absolutely wonderful.
So, 2 games, 2 in form teams who had their pants pulled down in their own front garden, 7 goals (some of them some of the best goals Villa have scored in a decade), largely solid in defence and all from a bunch of kids. Not too bad at all.
-
Pleased to see assist provided by Suaerez for our first and what a shame their leftback couldn't put a tackle in when Weimann shaped up for the second!!
-
It was strange looking up at the scoreboard today and seeing 0-3. I lost count of the number of times i looked at the clock during the second half, it seemed to last forever. Benteke and Baker were immense.
Great win for us, i just hope we can build on it.
Oh and i felt strangely confident of 3 points this morning so i put £2 on 3-1 at 66/1. Which was nice.
-
Would have been nice if the BBC had shown a clip of the 19th minute as the Liverpool fans joined in so much.
-

Agreed. The Liverpool fans were great and it could have spread the word.

MOTD coverage is poor beyond words, 2nd on 4 goals and can't have been more than 5 minutes of highlights. Kt got it right only the sky co-commentator noticed that agger had a handful of clarks shirt.
-
Just watched MOTD and now catching the extended highlights on Footie first.
MOTD, anyone noticed the starting credits still shows Bent from two years ago? I wonder if Lawro will predict a win for us next week now he has actually watched us beat HIS team and not just going on what he has read in elsewhere. Still. I'm glad they concentrated on us even if that got the caption wrong on the first mini review package.
Football first:- I'm surprised Suarez wasn't booked for following through on Guzan. Benteke and Weeman seem to have an understanding. Unfortunately you couldn't see Gabby running through on either the Johnson mistake or the Goal.
But one thing so far impressed me and shows the work ethic in the team. Our first chance was from a Bannan freekick in the corner. He played the ball in and the Beast's header was caught by Reina who then launched it up the field to Sterling on the break. And the person putting the challenge in on Sterling on the edge of our box was Bananaman who could have stayed and marvelled at his delivery.

I'm sure they showed more of most of the other games.
-
MOTD was an embarressment
-
Would have been nice if the BBC had shown a clip of the 19th minute as the Liverpool fans joined in so much.
Agreed. The Liverpool fans were great and it could have spread the word.
The 'The Mighty Reds YNWA' PA bloke announced the 19th minute clapping before the game sp their fans were aware of what was going to happen.
However, they also managed to play some of the worst music ever before a game. 10cc fer fecks sake

Why?
Considering how little of the ball we had, I thought pretty good highlights were shown. They emphasised how the defence improved as the game progressed and then Alan the arsehole even said that Benteke's performances was the best he's seen by a centre forward this season.
What more do you want them to do?
-
Don'cha wish your striker was Ben-te-ke, don'cha!
that is absolutely class. has it been adopted by the villa masses?
Stolen from RVP to be fair but fuck it they've had enough of our stuff over the years.
-
Enjoying the idea of some guy from from RAWK previously thinking we'd be beat by 6-0, well have a long, hard snort of reality my friend *stands buck naked in front of an open fire in the woods*

Just watching our whole game on Sky's Football First thing.
Our second goal is as good a goal as I've seen anywhere this season. Not just the backheel and finish, which were stunning, but the confident, one-touch exchanges of passing which lead up to the goal. It really was magnificent, I've just watched it about a dozen times, truly excellent.
Interesting to see the whole move revolved around Bannan, who has obviously seen that he can be effective without having to play the long, probing ball
I know Benteke and Weimann will rightly get the plaudits, and all our kids did well today, but one thing I have been more and more confident of is that Nathan Baker is going to develop into some fucking player.
He's got a sort of confident, assured, languid style about him, it's hard to describe, but it's like he's wearing trainers and having a kick around with his mates, he just looks entirely unflustered, in control, and gives off an "everything's under control" vibe.
He's looking more and more like the real deal.

Totally agree re Baker. Isn't it interesting how him and Clark have developed since the opening day mauling at home to Everton - compare and contrast that performance (where I posted on here during the game that it was like Norwich at home in 86) with that today.
Like I said earlier, I still think we will have many more up and downs but I am already looking forward to next season provided we can keep hold of the Belgian 'Heskey' to quote a WM commentator!

One person that hasn't taken much credit on this thread is the manager, who appears to be some kind of footballing demi-god, capable of transforming a clapped out club into the most promising team in the country in six months.
-
Just imagine what he could do given a few years and full backing in the transfer market.

We need to understand that, despite today, there will still be plenty of poor performances and disappointments this season, it isn't just a continual progression up the table.
We just need to give the bloke time. I can't believe anyone can't see what he is trying to do, and how he is trying to do it.
If he gets backing in January, I reckon this season could get very interesting, but either way, we have got to be patient and put our trust in him. He's changed the way we try to play the game immeasurably in less than half a season.
If we now go and get tonked next weekend, we need to understand that this is an ongoing process. We sank a long, long way last year, it's a long way back. It is for Liverpool, too, if you look at the way they are.
Looking at RAWK today, their fans largely don't seem to understand this, and can't accept they've got a major rebuild job on. Our fans need to make sure we do, and that we do our best to help it, not pile on pressure where we don't need it.

I think it's dawning on a few of them now. I like this comment from one of them on RAWK: "When Stewart Downing is the best player on your team, you know you're in trouble."
-
was lucky to be invited to a corporate seat today. 3 courses 5 pints, whiskey and a huge result. no doubt the pre match talk was based upon an easy 3points for them but in fairness the full time was very complementary about villa and benteke in particular.
very weird having to contain celebrations for 3 goals but good see the fans in fine voice from afar
-
Excellent team performance to cap a fine week. We were great, its very enjoyable to watch and the growing sense of togetherness around the place is palpable too. Marvelous.
-
To a man (or boy given their age), all of them absolutely brilliant. What a great week for Villa, the best week for ages.
Man of the Match for me was the Villa Fans. I've watched the game and all you can hear are the Villa fans from start to finish. Well done to all of you who attended.
-
I see the RAWK default response has been to say that we sat deep and broke with long balls. Factually not true, but whatever, if they lose at home they can only fathom one way of it happening.
We did counter, but we did what we always do: press as relentlessly as we can and try and counter from within their half. Liverpool fans go on about how they 'know their football', but they're little other than vaguely pretentious, self-righteous cliche-spouters.
-
I have to say it is a disgrace to the game of football that any team can go to the shrine known as Anfield and not attack and let the scouse twats enjoy themselves. If that is correct, they are more deluded than I thought
-
Oh, one other point: MOTD was well biased - to us! I thought the only reason for having us on so early was to talk about Crisis Club Liverpool, but they barely got a mention, while we were ranted and raved about and drooled over, which was pleasing to see.
-
Marvellous. I know we will score two at Goodison Park II, but to win 1-3. Marvellous.
-
Superb result, the second goal was sensational.
Great week for the Villa boys, lets keep it up!
-
It must be great for the likes of Gordon cowans, who's surely thinking: I knew someo these kids could do it. Having said that, out 3 most promising youngsters were all bought in the summer
-
The most hilarious moment yesterday was on 606, scouser rang in demanding Mourinhio Is appointed and given £150-200m to rebuild the club.
And he was being deadly serious.
-
I'm going to get a pen and write AVFC on my cock.
Coffee on keyboard time... Thanks!!!
-
They had Roy Hodgson and phoned up saying they wanted Dalglesh with £100m+ to turn it around!
-
Just watched motd. We looked an absolute shambles for 20 minutes, with herd and Westwood giving it away in ludicrous situations. Need to keep the performance eon perspective
But once we scored we looked full of confidence and a massive threat. The move which ended in delph and Benteke working it to bannan before weimann nodded wide, and the move for the second, were clearly born from our work at bodymoor. I doubt we put together a move like that all last season
-

I thought MOTD was overall pretty good. They talked about the Villa being good rather than having a scouse crisis conversation. There was talk about how we got organised at a the back after a shaky start which provided the basis on which to then go on and win.
Benteke was acknowleged by Shearer, comments along the lines of that was the best performance he has seen by a centre forward anywhere all season. They also mentioned about them being one of the youngest teams around.
-
Still think that Wiemanns first goal against Norwich the other night marks him down as something special
The way he adjusted his feet to guide the ball into the net at speed and under pressure was a gifting, something that can't be coached
I've always liked him, but when you see something like that you start to dream of him being another like Gary Shaw, and they don't come along to often
-

there was another good one on who said he was liverpool thtough and through and loved them with all his heart said he was very disappointed as yesterday was his first visit to anfield and he had gone there with a full father christmas costume on so he could get shown on match of the day but villa's win ruined his palns. What a wanker!

I'm the first to slag the programme off (see earlier post) but to be fair, they didn't pull the usual stunt of commenting from the more popular teams perspective. You could tell that Lawro didn't know too much about Big Ben, using the "not just a big man" cliche and calling him "honest".
Pity he's not so forthright about the integrity of Suarez.
-
It's Weimann's work rate above anything that makes him stand out for me. Yes, he has good skills and knows where the net is but he's trying to cement his place in the side, trying to make himself undroppable and he's going about it in the correct manner. For Gabby to get back in he will really have to produce.
We're still a bit raw in areas but we're improving game by game which is great for confidence with two tough games coming up.

No I heard that, he even made the tv comment a few times. What a shame.
My Dad was taken by a mate with a season ticket in the Annie Road End and said all the Liverpool fans were great - I think the ones in and around the ground normally are, and he was really impressed by their Petrov-19th minute applause.
-
Great performance yesterday, really proud of the the youngsters in the team and Benteke was brilliant really hope we can keep him for a few seasons. Bring on Chelsea!
-
Here's another thing that's not made up either. The People have Downing in their 'Team of the Day.
-
spoke to Phil neal after match and he was v impressed with benteke. he also praised villa in his post match talk to the Irish auzzies Scandinavian and Japanese tourists who had paid a fortune to go in hospitality lounge. they even had the goals on repeat!
-
Here's another thing that's not made up either. The People have Downing in their 'Team of the Day.
We gave him dogs abuse and deservedly so.
-
Was up early with the boiler banging and my head banging from last night , having drank too much watching MOTD and sky game of the day twice and now have water gushing out of my pipes.
classic performance yesterday , everyone was brilliant and it was not as if we beat a shite Livepoo team , as I think they would have beat most teams yesterday , we were just class and better in all departments on the day. Baker and Clark tremendous .
I think I had a tear in my eye on the second goal , it was that good , pure class.
The result cements we are not going down and we will move up the table and the future looks good , its just great to see the lads with the confidence and no pressure to play their football.
I also think we look better without Gabby in the team .
Match verdict , class MOM Benteke
-

Yes he did get quite a bit of stick, with 'what a waste of money' thrown in as well.
The People also have Kenwyne Jones in their Team of the Day, no room for Benteke. They did pick Clark and Baker though.
-

Yes, I heard that absolute tosser as well. I'm so sorry little old Villa spoiled his plans for the guaranteed win he assumed was on the cards when he decided to wear his costume. The worst thing about Villa winning is persuading myself to listen to programmes like 606 and Talkshite this morning which I normally avoid when we lose and which are plagued with some of the biggest idiots to ever 'follow' (and I use the term loosely for many gloryhunting bindippers) football
-
Just a side thought on Liverpool and Downing - he was £20m and Johnson was £17m, so forget money wasted on Carroll, what other mid table team has FBs costing the best part of £40m??

Surprised you buy the people considering the owners publish the much maligned by you mirror, clampy.
Downing was dangerous in th opening 30minutes but faded after that , benteke was awesome as were our defence.

Finally able to check in. Watched the match and it was a fantastic performance. Lambert got it spot on. It was that good that the woeful pro-Liverpool commentary ended up being turned on its head to begrudgingly admit we were tearing them apart.
We weathered their bright start. To be honest, Lichaj was getting ripped apart by Johnson and Sterling. Then for some reason, Rodgers moved Sterling to the other wing and Lichaj found things a lot easier from that point. Liverpool for all their possession offered little threat. Guzan didn't have a decent save to make, though was imperious throughout the game. We could have had 5. On another day Weimann or Benteke might both have had hattricks.
Guzan excellent. The back three were superb. Baker in particular was Laursenesque. Lichaj still worries me, but he's filling a gap. Lowton was assured again.
In midfield, Westy and Bannan were excellent again. BB is coming into his own finally. Holman's hard work was as usual a big plus. He made things happen too.
Weimann worked his bollocks off. Don't think anyone, even Holman, worked as hard as Andy. Brilliant. Top lad. Give him a run and he's the one who'll get a lot of joy out of partnering Benteke. Never mind our master poacher record signing who's on his way. Andy's got a big career ahead of him with us. He's a really good finisher. He just needs a run in the team, like players like Gabby and Bent have been given in their time here. Give him a run, he'll score goals. He's got a touch of class neither of those two have as well. Cracking finish for the goal.
Benteke. Majestic. What more can you say? The pool defence will have nightmares for months.
Lamberts best display in the league thus far. I've felt we've been due to give someone a good tonking. It feels like we were just a click away from twatting someone and we've now done it twice in the space of a few days.

Well that's painful. Benteke with a hit and hope shot. Reina should be saving that if you ask me.

Gerrard is going to score and give it the Istanbul arm-waving and we will ride gloriously to victory! COME ON!
Benteke just walked through our defence
Our heads have gone.
Rodger's looks like he's drowning in football pain at this point, it's not nice to watch

I just don't get it. We are in form and Villa are not. We come flying out of the traps and are all over them and that is just from me reading this Comms thread but then somehow we are 3 goals down. WTF? What the absolute fuck is going on?

I'm not surprised. I thought that he played very well.
However, he did not have a winger running at him and thus did not have to attempt many tackles.

Well said Paulie, a bit of perspective. The potential of this team is exciting, as is that of Lambert whose judgment I back 100%. But still some games won't pan out like yesterday or Norwich. We could have been 3-0 down in both games, we just hung in there (with some excellent defending) and counter-attacked with great skill.
Excellent performances and we'll get there but this by all accounts wasn't a dominating performance, just a great rearguard and explosive finishing. That's more than enough to be cheery about, believe me but we just need to keep hold of our hats a little.
The reassuring thing is, I don't think Lambert is going to get carried away at all. He's in this for the long haul.

Despite all the stick Lawro gets on here, I thought he was fair and accurate in his assessment. Villa were 'all over the place' for the first 20 minutes, possibly from nerves he said, but when they got through that unscathed, their confidence grew, their defending improved and they kept Liverpool out with total commitment. Then Shearer chipped in with his fondness for big, bustling, bullying centre forwards and lauded Benteke. Very fair I thought. Apologies if someone has already mentioned this - haven't read the whole thread.

Incredible stuff, i'll never tire of seeing that Benteke back heel.
A couple of decent players in the window and we can start climbing.

I thought Lawro was spot on, just a shame Hansen wasn't on it as well.

Precisely he needs time and provided we survive this season, that'll do. The young players are really developing quickly.

I am so happy after yesterday I hate that team more than any other so it is so good to beat them like that at their place.
I thought our kids did amazingly well especially Baker he has really stepped up I really like the look of him a proper centre half. Benteke was outstanding as well I will never tire of watching the goal he set up I must have watched it 100 times already it is just beautiful.

Cheerio, cheerio

In fairness, that's a perfectly reasonable prediction from Redknapp there. He didn't say we're rubbish, he just thought Liverpool were better. It's nice for him to be so wrong, though.

Is there a fire drill.....superb :)

He might have been fair in his assessment, but Dan Walker absolutely hammered him on the show last night. I've noticed over the years that Lawro takes himself very seriously and hates it when someone has a laugh at his expense. His face was a picture last night, especially when the presenter made fun of his shirt in the closing part.

That chant was mentioned on Radio 5 this afternoon.

What amazes me - in hearing / reading the media comments - is that they all focussed on our poor away record duing 2012 but no one to my knowledge referred to the 4-1 away thraipsing of the EPL's form team, Norwich.
A simple check on the match facts from Tuesday - and the acknowledgement that Rodgers' teams play fairly open - would have perhaps caused a little more media balance and perspective.
I really hope that we turn Chelsea over next weekend - obviously - but particularly to show that yesterday was as much about Villa playing well as Liverpool underperforming.
-
had to miss most of the match as we were due to see the The Hobbit, what a result!! Well done to all concerned
Saw Lawro on the end of MOTD this morning and thought he reminded me of the Goblin King
Benteke is the best CF I've seen at Villa since the early days of Andy Gray

I've noticed over the years that Lawro takes himself very seriously and hates it when someone has a laugh at his expense. His face was a picture last night, especially when the presenter made fun of his shirt in the closing part.
It's lucky his shirt buttons didn't pop.
-
Despite all the stick Lawro gets on here, I thought he was fair and accurate in his assessment.

By the way Gerrards goal came off his arm and the so called penalty on Agger had them both pulling each others shirts.

Pisses me off how commentators keep missing that little fact. The co-commentator yesterday was the only one who mentioned it and despite that the commentator still kept bringing it up and spinning it as though Agger wasn't doing the same thing.
-

The shirt pull looked worse against Clark because he lost his balance after Agger pulled his shirt. The ref did very well as a weak decision could have changed the course of the match.

Superb result, once again very proud of the Villa

I have not brought the Sun paper for ages but tomorrow i am going to put it right in front of my Liverpool work mate with the result staring him in the face .......Get in !!!!!!

Can you not just steal a copy? Don't waste your money on them.
-
Please, if you don't want to seem a ******, show him any paper but the Sun.
-
Aye, using The Sun to score points against a Liverpool fan is a bit low. Just cover his workplace/car/house with pictures of Benteke.
-
Yes not the Sun. Would seem crass I think

I apologise for that comment i totally forgot the implications of the Sun newspaper. It used to be the only paper i brought for the football coverage. I sincerely hope i have not offended anyone. It was a genuine mistake ......

I didn't think for a second it was anything else.

Thanks Dave. He is good friend of mine and i would never ever exchange anything other than banter at the appropriate level.
-
Still buzzing on the back of this. Tether the Beast to a very long contract indeed. Loved the the Basingstoke quip back a few pages as well.
-
No worries mate, didn't think you were thinking of it for 'those reasons'
-

Better still, stick up a poster of Downing in a Liverpool top and draw a £20m on it in black marker!

Haven't heard from VCTM. He must be a very proud man at his local!
-
Jarpie you owe me 10 minutes of my life.
Why was I listening to some fat fucker say "do you know what I mean" 1000 times?
-
It nearly made him sick, but Robbie "The Cock-end" Savage just changed his mind about us going down. So that's alright!
-
I may be wrong but I think the Beeb have noticed Benteke.
-
MOTD2 sees Savage starting to back-track on his pre-season prediction...

Yep, I imagine Clive will be enjoying the next few days at work.

He's just one in a long queue including a fair few Villa fans.

just watched the game again today on Liverpool tv (Its free with sky).
during the 19th minute it occurred to me that Petrov said some time ago he was a Liverpool fan as a boy.
Props to them for paying respect to him, it must have been extra special for him. Really classy gesture.
Also I'd totally forgotten about Baker's reducer on Sterling in the first half, it was immense!

If only that challenge had been on Downing.
It really would have been the perfect day then.

That's spot on, and the really exciting thing is it's not the way we played at Norwich.
We've adjusted to exploit an opponents weakness, which means a) we've got a manager who can see things like that that and b) the players understand him.
That really bodes well.
-
Thanks Matt - that is a great analysis. The form guide is interesting as well. Norwich are second only to Manure and Liverpool are seventh AFTER our win so both were/are in excellent form.
As said, it bodes well if we have a management team that is studying the opposition with such clarity and our players know their jobs. No wonder we have a bunch who look increasingly confident and 'together'.

Exactly. Lambert will adjust his team and tactics to get the result. We haven't had that in a long long time.
-
Watching the highlights over and over again has made me very happy!
-
I liked this bit from The Independent:
"Lambert argued that it was this kind of hungry, lower-league footballer that had brought him such success at Norwich. “If you don’t give someone the opportunity, how are you ever going to know?” said the Aston Villa manager after a week that had seen him reach a League Cup semi-final. He, like Rodgers, is rebuilding a great club but at the moment he is closer to a trophy.
In a florescent yellow away strip and black shorts, Aston Villa looked like Lambert’s former club, Borussia Dortmund, in the same way that Stoke’s change kit is based on Barcelona’s. But the difference was rather more difficult to detect. Villa not only looked like Dortmund they played like them."
-
I work with a few glory hunters and the best part of it all is that today they offered nothing in the way of "we were mugged" or "we were robbed"
They know they had been out fought and out thought by a manager that has proved he has Rogers number like he did last year
-
I love the fact we won so convincingly with those possession stats. A bit like Celtic v Barcelona recently. I do see the importance of keeping the ball, especially when you are seeing out a game when ahead. But I think there is sometimes too much emphasis on possession, and passing per se, without reference to the quality, the degree of penetration and creativity involved. I'd be fairly calm if my opponents passed it across two thirds of the pitch as often as they pleased, as long as I prevented them getting too much quality possession in the final third. Which is pretty much what Villa did on Saturday.
-
Rodgers is blaming Saturday on the players being fatigued. He's certainly worked out the sort of things to say as Liverpool manager.

In his defence, they did have a mid week game while we didn't. ;)

Goal of the season
-
How perfect was that backheel? I just can't stop watching it.
-
One thing about Weimann, he's pretty lethal when he hits it first touch. See also goals against Norwich and Man United.

I've watched the highlights many times and I still trying towork out how he thought they could have been 3-0 up in 15 mins.

Yes instinctive finisher , I like that , he doesn't seem afraid to hit it 1st time.
-
Indeed he has a great strikers instinct. If we continue to play like Dortmund I'll be very happy.
-
Tell yer what, forget if you can, the back heel and marvel at Weimanns ball into space for Benteke and his run to the penalty spot. I mean it is between two players and away from goal. Lots of work behind that move.

Oh look at all those Liverpool players...they do look pathetic I mean tired. After all it was the 41st minute. It just wasn't fair!

I thought that too, as we should of been one up inside a minute.
not seen any of the bindipper twats at work who told me on Friday that the Villa should not bother turning up Saturday as that racist twat was going to tear us a new one.

Has Suarez got out of Clark's pocket yet?

Yes, and he hits the ball hard and hits the target a very high percentage of the time. I think the comparisons to the young Andy Gray are pretty close.
-
I think Weimann is a composed striker of the ball and seems able to place his shots perfectly without seeming to generate much back lift. A few of his recent goals have come from early, first time strikes which don't allow the keeper to steady themselves and dive. A quality that served Ian Rush pretty well.....

OK, but if he grows a moustache I want him gone!

I think they're beginning to develop a great understanding. It was as if each of them instinctively knew where the other would be. We haven't seen that at Villa in a very long time.

Oh I don't know, the way the thug Skrtel is left for dead by Andi does look like someone who had been run ragged.

Suarez couldn't have been too tired. He was suspended last week.

Not just that but there was the build up involving Bananaman and Westwood amongst others, something like fifteen passes before that backheel.

I've been saying the same to people all day at work, the pass and move from Weimann is superb, and then he hit it so clean that Reina couldn't react, great goal from his point of view, Great from Benteke to have the awareness and balls to play the backheel and great from various other players to work the ball forward as well as we did. A truly superb team goal, it really is as well work a goal as we've scored for years.

To the H&Ver who just pmd me - your 'message' settings are blocking my reply!
I hope you've told him dinner AND a movie first!
Interested in spare violin strings...for the RAWK crowd, I think!
-
Is there any highlights online that show the build up to the goal, by any chance?
-
Just watched it again .... and like a fine wine it just gets better
