Vlaar out is a terrible blow, I'm very happy Bent is involved again.

I'd have Ireland in for Herd, but lets hope the defence holds up.

I think that's a 4-4-2 with Bannan wide left and Holman wide right

Herd an odd choice ahead of KEA or Ireland. Formation not easy to guess from options.

Harry in attacking mood binging back Granero but no Toilet or Cisse.

I think we're going to see Bannan and/or Westwood push a bit further up the pitch. Herd and Holman are in there to try and counter the manager's-first-home-game effect with their hard work. And Darren Bench? Interestinger and interestinger.

Midfield looks a little workman like, and may lack penetration. Think Benteke will cause them a lot of trouble though. UTV

Glad Zamora and Cisse both unavailable. No striker for QPR. Mackie is merely energetic.

3-5-1-1 with Herd Baker and Clark in defence, or 5-3-1-1 if you prefer.

Herd
Bannan Westwood
                                                                  Holman                     Gabby

I don't think Gabby will be effective playing up wide in row M?

I'm quite interested to see how Herd plays alongside Westwood and Bannan, I must admit. I can't say I've ever thought he's that brilliant, but he is a grafter, and he might just be the right player to complement the other two.

There was one in National Lampoons Christmas Vacation so they must know what they are. It didn't have any chocolate behind each door though so I don't know whether they do that.

Oh and let's we're singing 'Jingle Bells' late and we bring home all 3 points.

I think their strength is in their midfield, and Herd is probably physically our strongest option in there. As such it makes sense. Him and Westwood sitting with Bannan in front would be my guess. Going toe to toe in the centre is the area is important. I am pretty confident Gabby and Weimann will hurt the full backs and Benete could have some real fun against Hill and Nelson

It might be difficult for Weimann to hurt them (at least for a good while).

Yep, agree with that.  Herd providing the energy and Westwood / Bannan the composure and ball retention.

Unfortunately I'm going to have to go for the Woodward option for the first time in ages, doubt he has improved - big game and an early goal would be great.

Irrespective of what's been said and written, and I've been a critic of Bent recently, I hope comes on and bags a couple and puts all of this behind him and the club. Finding a way so that Bent can be effective in whatever system Lambert employs makes us so much more potent.

Good value at 1-0.

At 1-1 we just turned into headless chickens.

Slightly the better of it after the re-start from M'Bias injury.

Lichaj is getting roasted. Gabby should play left side to help him out and also get at Boswinga.

Have to give credit where it's due to Mackie for the R's. He's far from their best, or most reputed player but he's worked his bollocks off so far. Seems like his hearts in it far more than a lot of his team mates have been this season.

QPR look like Stoke though. Whether that's a permanent shift this season by Arry I don't know, but certainly, we're struggling against the aerial bombardment.

Benteke, Lowton, Westwood, Guzan all good. Rest, with the exception of Lichaj, all a bit in and out. Lichaj is just crap.

Both defences are frightening for the respective fans. It's not good. Saying that, we can at least blame inexperience. If we don't sit Herd in front to just hold then we may as well just take him off because he's anonymous. Put on Bent and go for it.

I think we need to win this by attacking. Same for Rangers. Neither side can try to defend and hope to nick it. Both defences are shite. I think this will open up 2nd half. We'll see who edges it. I think there's a goal in Benteke today though. Fancy Gabby could score too.

The rule there is pretty plain. It's in the site rules and has been all season. People can of course watch streams, they can say they are watching a stream, they can't however post a link to the game, or name a streaming site.
Thanks to those who helped out a fellow supporter.  You know who you are.  And aren't, in one miserable case.

Funny how the only time I can recall you being pleasant to me was when you wanted something that was against site rules.
You need to change your name to PeterWithesWibble, trust me it will bring you luck...

For me Lichaj struggles at left back. He's not great at right back either. I think he'd suit centre half a lot more because he's not quick enough or good enough on the ball for fullback. That said he'd be a back up centre half at this level. Unfortunately that's what we've got at the minute. There's no one else.

From the offical FB page.

QPR 1-1 Villa - HT: Enthralling first-half of football. Both sides on the offensive. Villa have looked a real handful in the final third with Christian Benteke, Gabby Agbonlahor and Brett Holman causing all kinds of issues. Villa's trio of centre-halves - Chris Herd, Nathan Baker, Ciaran Clark - all coping excellently with QPR's threat. Should be an intriguing second period.

I think the problem for Lichaj is that as we play so narrow he's got no protection in front of him to stop the opposition bombing down that side with a man over. As someone else said, I'd like to see Gabby a bit wider on the left to try and peg Bosingwa back.

No I'm simply pointing out to you the irony of you watching a live stream which fellow supporters would also like to be watching and you do everything you can to stop that happening.  Perhaps if mods don't want requests for streams to come up they should consider not coming on to threads and making it abundantly clear that they're watching one.

They are not saying you shouldn't watch them in the privacy of your own home. Just dont particularly talk about it. Like other things you may do in the privacy of your own home.

Links to Streams

This practice is not tolerated on this site. Please refrain from posting any links to streaming sites, any posts that infringe this rule will be amended/removed and offenders will find themselves subject to warnings and potentially bans if continuing to post. The rules also extend to people pestering others for links via PM.

The irony is in you - watching a stream and posting about the stream you are watching - not sharing the link and threatening those that might in order to allow others to do exactly what you're doing.  Surely even you can see the irony there?  I guess not.

I respectfully suggest that the mods need to look at that inconsistency if they expect the rule about sharing links to be observed.

FFS, the mods aren't being fascist, they're just trying to make sure the site doesn't get closed down. Because none of us want that, do we? Leave the man alone!

You'd have a point if a single forum had been shut down for linking to an infringing stream

Villa Streams was shut down directly providing a stream to paying visitors, it's not really the same as people on a forum linking to off-site material.

It's their house, their rules, etc, but it's bollocks that the site is going to be shut down if people post links to streams.

Can you PM someone who you know is watching a stream and ask for a stream?

I remember the good old days when us fans helped each other out, pity those days seem to have replaced by an I'm all right jack era.

I take it you'd prefer the site to be taken down rather than us as mods do what we can to make sure that doesn't happen?

Course not pws , but I do think private messages should be private - I understand about posting in threads .

The point though ozz is that saying you're watching a stream and posting about the stream you are watching is bound to encourage people to ask where that stream is so they can watch it and post about it themselves.  So in doing what he has been doing this afternoon PWS is encouraging people to ask about links and for links to be shared, which is precisely what he wants people to stop.

Despite PWS not getting it, there is a great deal of irony in that.

Accept watching a stream isn't against the rules. So it's hardly ironic. The rule is very simple, so simple in fact that i'm sure even you can grasp it. No posting links to either games or streaming sites. No asking other users via pm for a link to the game. Is that clear enough?
The irony is in you - watching a stream and posting about the stream you are watching - not sharing the link and threatening those that might in order to allow others to do exactly what you're doing.  Surely even you can see the irony there?  I guess not.

I respectfully suggest that the mods need to look at that inconsistency if they expect the rule about sharing links to be observed.

Name a single person threatened for watching a stream?

you just made hilts point.

It must be something in the manager's water down at the club. MON through Paul Lambert. There are times when their tactics haven't been tactics at all and I have no idea what the hell they a thinking. With Ireland and Bent on the bench he refuses to bring either on and we are likely heading for a point or worse. If McLeish had done this he'd be slaughtered.

He should have put Ireland on for Gabby or Holman. Then see if we get a bit more of the play before bringing Bent on for the other of those two or Benteke.

Instead it's like for like to try and let them have the ball and see it out. Shite. Only one team are capable of winning this on the basis of the play. Let's hope we get a set piece or something.

At the end of the game can we please have a statement from the club explaining why Bent is either stuck on the bench or sitting in the stands - the silence from the club is deafening. Man up Lambert or Lerner and give the fans what they deserve - i.e the truth.

Ditto.

You know, I don't even think TSM would have made such defensive substitutes against the worst team in the league. Lambert should be ashamed of this display.
Ridiculous comment. He's managing the game as he sees fit; not as attacking as we'd like against a poor defence but we were rocking in the third quarter of the game and he's righted it by bringing more MF players.

Well if this is the best Lambert can do then I suggest he takes a look at himself - and perhaps put the funiture removals company on standby.

It does appear he's settling in for a long, cold winter.

I actually don't care how we played today; not losing is the critical factor.
Christ even the fans have lost ambition too - happy to draw against a team who have failed to win a game thus far and are, lets face it, very poor.
