Has anyone else noticed the song that keeps getting played before home games? It was also played after the final whistle against Reading. It's main chorus is a catchy as hell whistling tune and then some fan noises, and in general it's a charming and uplifting song. Does anyone know what it's called or where it's come from?
I really like it and thought it fitted the mood perfectly after the game on Tuesday night.
-
It's by a bloke called Gary Nock. Can't remember what it's called but it's an original tune he wrote but he changed the words for the Villa version. It was on the OS a few weeks ago, it might still be on there. I quite like it as well.

This, Oh to be a Villan by Gary Nock.
-
Thanks very much! Anywhere I can download it?
-
I think you can download the song it is made from which is "Make it Better" (The Mars bar advert) but I don't think the Villa version is available. I could be wrong.
The only bit I think has any potential to catch on is the da da da bit near the end which just seems to go so well with the European Cup/fans on the roof bit of the video. I do love the video.

Excellent link jarpie! So many wonderful memories there of bringing the trophies back to Victoria square - great days!

After a bit of digging around I've found you can buy it off iTunes for 99p, I'll do that as opposed to illegally as I really like this and want to encourage the club to keep it.

The villa version or the original?

It's not bad at all.

I like it too. I hope it catches on.

Does anyone know what the other song is that's played every game before the team comes out.....it has no words ???
-
Personally find it cringeworthy.

A mate and I noticed this being played after the Man Utd game. I think it's OK, the original must have been used on an advert, it sounds very familiar.

Glad I could return the favour to someone.

I think it was used on a Mars advert?

I think it makes us look small-time (and the tune sounds like the Postman Pat theme-tune).
I've already slagged it off in the Respect thread.
Sorry, Chips - each to their own.

Isn't that a little bit illegal and very immoral? If someone's gone to as much effort as he seems to have to produce a song about our club the least people can do is pay 99p for a copy of it.
I really like it and will be buying it. I don't think it makes us small time at all. It's a hell of a lot better than the vast majority of professionally made songs about the club.

Got it off the iTunes store in the end, downloading straight from YouTube always leads to poor quality in my experience.

The bells are ringing...

Just seen it's 79p on Google Play (if you have an Android phone). Not sure how/if that affects the royalty the composer gets.
-
Got it on Amazon for 89p
-
If you want to ask him to play it live he's playing on Saturday night at the Walsall Music Festival at Walsall Town Hall.
How many downloads do you reckon we need to get to get it in the charts?

Wondered what they'd been playing recently. I think it's really naff. Bring back Hi Ho Aston Villa, a la Jeff Beck. At least most people join in

The guy that wrote that wants shooting.

I'd go for 'Hi Ho Aston Villa' when it's been a good result & 'To Be a Villan' when its been a bit meh.
I think it has a kind of melancholy wistfulness that kind of mellows out the mood when we've been a bit crap, but it isn't upbeat enough for when its gone well.

I think it fits both. Although a little bit of an adrenaline killer, it gave me a feeling of extreme optimism and a big ol' smile listening to it after the Reading game as I shuffled out of the Holte.

Although I'll be the first to admit is does scream of "we're going down but keep your chin up".

It does!
I think it was a 'To be a Villan' occasion on Tuesday even tho we won because we were a bit shit. Hopefully some 'Hi Ho' weeks are coming soon.

its hardly a rousing battlecry is it
-
Hi, Ho, for me.
-
Isn't Hi-Ho a Dingles tune?
I'd like to see the return of Escape.

Oh to be a vill-i-in
Whether we're losin' or wi-i-nin
Worra' couplet. Love it.
The chanted chorus is rabble-rousing enough, non?

Awful, awful dirge.
A slowed down Pot Black theme.
Get them runing out to 'Break my stride' by Matthew Wilder.
