Can you name the eight villa players who have scored hat tricks? (Since football started in 1992)
-
Dublin Collymore Angel Moore Saunders Atkinson Yorke Milosivich
-
Probably not!
Gabby
Deano
Dalian
Big Cyrille
Boom boom Savo
I'll let someone else guess the other easier ones or correct me.....cough!
-
Dublin, Gabby, Moore, Savo, Deano and Yorke all correct.
-
Carbone maybe?
-
And the Merse?
-
Super Tom vs Wimbledon.
-
And Carew got one I think?
-
Ah yes, so they did, think you are right, Carew got one in the Cup versus Reading which maybe doesn't count of course but probably got another
-
Johnson and Carew are both correct. Carews hat trick in the league was against Newcastle I think. Remember the penalty that almost broke the goal in two.
-
New question time?
-
Name all the Villa players that have scored an o.g. since football was invented in 1992.
-
Okay, here's one. Since Sky invented football our worst goalscoring run in the league that I can remember was 1 goal in 11 games. Who scored that goal and who were so crap that they conceded a goal against us?
-
Name all the Villa players that have scored an o.g. since football was invented in 1992.
I would probably find that easier pre-1992! Allan Evans, Brendan Ormsby et al...
-
Name all the Villa players that have scored an o.g. since football was invented in 1992.
God and Dunne for starters. And Vlaar vs the mancs.
-
Carew got 3 in a league game. Newcastle or Man City or some other team that gets up our nose more often than not.
-
Name all the Villa players that have scored an o.g. since football was invented in 1992.
God and Dunne for starters. And Vlaar vs the mancs.
Ciaran Clark against Southampton.

That isn't down as an OG though is it?
Did JPA do one in that interesting game he had against Spurs?

Ah, might not be, I could have sworn it was.
I remember the Angel one! scored an OG from a corner about 2 minutes after missing a pen.
-
The likes of Southgate, Ugo and Mellberg must have got one the amount of games they played. And didn't Bozzie get credited with one at Spurs? If so I want bonus points for that shout.
Can't believe how hard this is, then again I tend to blank most opposition goals out regardless of who scored them or how they were scored.
-
Ridgewell must've scored an og
As for the other question about 1 goal in 11. I remember a bad draught in BFR's first season but that doesn't count as it was pre-when football began....
-
Ridgewell must've scored an og
I think its ogs while still with us not ogs for us after they have left.
-
Bloody Warnock.
-
Dunne got most of them. Didn't a keeper have an OG against him?
-
Didn't a keeper have an OG against him?
Yeah .... Enckleman.
-
Ridgewell must've scored an og

Pretty sure Ridgewell scored for and against us at Fulham in a midweek draw.
As for who scored our one goal in 11 games, pretty sure it was during the 94-95 season or the one before and it was an own goal. Might have been Oldham but the only Oldham defender I can think of from those days is Irwin and I don't think it's him.
-
Angel scored an og I think. Pretty much all our long-serving defenders will have, and our not so long-serving, like Warnock.
-
I see someone's already said Angel. And Warnock. I'm shit at this.
-
Okay, here's one. Since Sky invented football our worst goalscoring run in the league that I can remember was 1 goal in 11 games. Who scored that goal and who were so crap that they conceded a goal against us?
Was it that Ipswich player who scored that own goal in 94/95 when we won 1-0 at Portman Road. Cant remember his name.
-
Surely the most notorious og ever is that night against you know who?
-
Who was the first Villa player to be sent off? (Prem era)
-
Alpay scored a last minute own goal against Man United.
-
Steve Staunton was always good for an OG or two
-
I know the question refers to post 1992 but Chris Nicholl cannot go unmentioned for his four goals at Leicester, including two in our net!
-
Who was the first Villa player to be sent off? (Prem era)
Nigel Spink
FLASHBACK: Southampton 4-1 Aston Villa – 30 April 1994
Southampton survived relegation from the Premier League in 1993-94, largely through this win in their final home game of the season.
The messiah of the south coast, Matt Le Tissier scored twice and there were also goals from Ken Monkou and Neil Maddison.
Villa goalkeeper Nigel Spink was sent off for a challenge on Iain Dowie and away supporters were so disgusted, they ripped down a goal post at full-time, causing over £300 of damage.

Neil cox was another I can recall too

Nope, it was a Villa player who scored it. And actually it was pre Sky. Oooops.
-
Shaun Teale scored a an og v forest. Unchallanged he chipped it over our keeper.

Was't it staunton against someone like Norwich in BFR's first season?

Right season, wrong player and team.

Mis-read the question!! Was Staunton the player who scored to end the run of "Aston Villa nils"
Yorke or Regis for the goalscorer?
-

Staunton did score against Norwich and we started scoring more normally after that again.
Regis scored the only goal in that run of 11 games, just need the opposition now.

Oldham, home, 22/02/92.

A last minute equaliser against Sheffield United for whom Kevin Gage opened the scoring I recall. I missed this game as for reasons I cannot adequately explain, I went to see Wolves v Newcastle instead.
-
I know the question refers to post 1992 but Chris Nicholl cannot go unmentioned for his four goals at Leicester, including two in our net!
Once again I tell you that I was there that day. What an honour it was!
-
BC54 VFC is correct, although looking it up doesn't count! :P
Our only goal in 11 games was Regis scoring in a 1-0 win at home to Oldham. And we thought it was bad under McLeish!
Joe, that was the match after the Norwich game previously mentioned. After that Sheff Weds game we actually scored 9 in 3 against Chelsea, Spurs and Liverpool, which was bizarre considering the long run of non scoring we'd just gone through.
-
Can we have really easy questions please. Like those when you have t dial an 09 number.
-
Didn't a keeper have an OG against him?
Yeah .... Enckleman.
That was credited to Mellberg not Enckleman weren't it.
-
Sticking with that season, who was top scorer for us in ALL competitions in 1991/92?
-
Didn't a keeper have an OG against him?
Yeah .... Enckleman.
That was credited to Mellberg not Enckleman weren't it.
I've already claimed Bosnich as a keeper with OG. No idea if it's right though as Legion did the typical teacher thing of asking a question and then going on holiday for three months.
-
Didn't a keeper have an OG against him?
Yeah .... Enckleman.
That was credited to Mellberg not Enckleman weren't it.
As you can't score from a throw in even though it was on target it can not be "awarded" to Mellberg.
-

Isn't it in the record books as an Encks OG? Even though he never touched it.
-
So it was not a goal at all?
-
So it was not a goal at all?
Shouldn't have been. Enckelman compounded the error by chasing it as it was rolling in, probably leading David Fucking Elleray to believe he'd touched it.
-
Sticking with that season, who was top scorer for us in ALL competitions in 1991/92?
Was it Dwight Yorke?
Another question. In the premier league era, who is the only Villa player to have scored directly from a corner?
-

Yes, his LC goals put him in first place.
Staunton?

Breikreutz.

Sure he scored a few while with us, making it doubly hilarious when he did it for them

I was at that match - remember being in one of the front rows of the old Trinity.
I'd add Craig Gardner to the own goal list - he managed to notch a few didn't he?
Laursen scored one against Liverpool as well, I think in the same season that Gardner scored one against Man Utd.
-
So was I Sean, it was pretty poor fare I seem to remember.

Went to watch the Chelsea game then bedtime. Encks' was definitely not an o.g. Referee got it wrong.

I agree, but it was credited to Enckleman. If he'd not been deemed to have touched it then it wouldn't have counted, so it has to be his goal.

Did Chico Hamilton III and his mates have a go at destroying the crossbar?
And the goal-drought we had was pre-Sky in the spring of '92. In Prem years it's under McLeish maybe?
-

Did Ipswich have a player called Frank Yallop, who always seemed to score own goals?
-
Did Chico Hamilton III and his mates have a go at destroying the crossbar?
Have a go? we succeeded.
Shameful
And someone ran onto the pitch, dressed as Robin, and threw a punch at Dowie.

The Ipswich player was Chris Swailes and it was his debut I think.

The answer has already been correctly guessed. Regis at home to Oldham.

"Someone" eh? Wouldn't blame you. He may have invented bouncebackability but he's forever tripping over his words on Sky. Very hard to understand him.

Frank Yallop was a Canadian footballer, now head coach of the MLS team in San Jose!
-
I don't know the answer but what is our highest score going into the half time break? Since football was invented.
I remember being three up against portsmouth in a Saturday lunchtime sky game.
-
In 92/93 were we 4-0 up v Boro or have I imagined it?
-
Just checked, was 3-0 at ht
-
5-1 vs Liverpool in 1976?
-
Not Villa related but a bit of general football trivia for you:
Six teams have spent only one season in the top flight. Name them and the seasons.
-
Swindon 92/93, Barnsley 98/99
Is it all Premier league or further back?
-
Northampton town 1965/6
-
Carlisle in mid 70s, 74/75? Also think Barnsley were before when i said, 97/98?
-
Northampton 65/66, Carlisle 74/75 correct.
Swindon & Barnsley correct but wrong years.
-
Swindon 93/94? Barnsley 97/98?
-
Yes Swindon 93/94 & Barnsley 97/98 correct. 2 more to get

Peter Enckelman I think was the missing number 1, and although he was first choice, I think Carson wasn't, as Sorensen had it whilst he was on loan from Liverpool.

There was another...Glossop something or other!!!!
-
Weren't Brentford top division for a year? The Glossop team is Glossop North End.
-
Shaun Teale scored a an og v forest. Unchallanged he chipped it over our keeper.
Wasn't that in front of the Holte after about 30 seconds or something like that? We went on to win 3-1 if I remember correctly.
-
Nigel Spink (1992-95), Mark Bosnich (1995-99), David James (1999-2001), Peter Schmeichel (2001-02), Peter Enckleman (2002-03), Thomas Sørensen (2003-08), Brad Friedel (2008-11) and Shay Given (2011-12).
-
There was another...Glossop something or other!!!!
Correct. The smallest town to have had a top division team. Year?
-
Weren't Brentford top division for a year? The Glossop team is Glossop North End.
Brentford had 5 seasons in total. All the teams have been got but not years for Leyton Orient and Glossop yet.
-
I'm sure Brentford finished 5th one season, which is higher than Blues or Coventry have managed *snigger*
-
Glossop North End - Queen Vic was coming to the end of her reign so about 1899
-
Glossop 1899-1900
Leyton Orient 1962-63
I'm sure Brentford finished 5th one season, which is higher than Blues or Coventry have managed *snigger*
They did indeed. Just another club bigger than the Blues
-
Is Glossop named after Sir Roderick Glossop?
-
Is Glossop named after Sir Roderick Glossop?
According to Wiki.
The name Glossop is thought to be of Saxon origin, named during the Angles' settlement in the 7th century, and derived from Glott's Hop – where hop could mean a valley,[3] a small valley in a larger valley system,[4] or a piece of land enclosed by marshes[5] and Glott was probably a chieftain's name.
-
In the all time table of most appearances by non-British Isles players in the premier league, 4 of the top 7 played for Villa. Who are they?
Bonus point for naming the two that are in the top 5.
-
Yorke
Freidel
Given
Boateng
Dunne
-
If Given and Dunne don't count i'll add Sorensen and Schmeichel.
-
British Isles was intended as meaning GB and all Ireland.
you've named 5 ... which one would you drop?
-
Thought it might but decided to cover the bases.
I'll drop Schmeichel as he went abroad for a while before coming back.
-
yup
Friedel (3rd), Boateng, Yorke, Sorenson (5th,6th,7th)
I was surprised about Boateng.
-
Is Mellberg one of those non-British Isles players?
