0-0, a very similiar game to the United one, just without the goals.

Us to start brightly and match them in the first half, but have to weather an endless wave of attacks in the second. Guzan named Man of the Match.

Think we'll lose this one, after last weekend's efforts. The obvious steam selection choice I at left back, keeping the rest of the side the same. Stevens general play was better than lichaj's but perhaps Eric wouldn't have committed the faults for goals 1 and 3.

I think there are two other big considerations though:
- Toure. There's a risk that he's just too powerful for wee Barry and Ashley.
- wingbacks. In theory, our 4231 is a logical formation to play if city do play the 3412 they did on Sunday. But it didn't work at all for spurs as bale and lennon were piahed back.

I still think we'll shape up the same way. But there is a case for solidity in midfield, either with a narrow 4 - eg Holman Westwood kea bannan - in midfield; or dropping Ireland for kea to be a bit more defensive with a 433.

I think we'll score, but I think they'll score more. We'll come roaring out of the blocks, pressing their back line into mistakes and generally making ourselves a nuisance. We might even take the lead. But one way or another, they'll come back at us, maybe Yaya Toure with a dodgy goal. From then on it's all one way.

My big worry is Benteke against Kompany. Kompany's a defender who might actually know exactly how to handle a player like Benteke, and that could leave our best avenue of attack closed off.

Having ripped everyone apart in training all week, Khalid Abdo will start and score a first half hat-trick to put Villa 3-0 up.

After a stunning half-time 'swoop', he emerges from the tunnel in a City shirt and scores four more for them.

However, a late Benteke brace gives Villa a 5-4 victory. At the final whistle, Joey the Bat runs onto the pitch and runs Abdo through with a corner flag.

He is driven off to the morgue as the visiting fans chant 'what a waste of money'.

2-2 with another Barry own goal in the 94th minute, after we have played over an hour with 10 men, as bannan sent of for twatting barry.

2-2 Benteke and Barry own goal

I think it'll be a hard-fought and niggly 0-0 for 89mins and 55 secs, when the ball will strike Barry's arse, go into orbit, then re-enter precisely into their net at 50km/sec. 1-0 us (Barry).

Some interesting predictions on here but I'm not sure about the 6-2. No way will Ireland score.

We've started really slow in virtually every game this season but teams have failed to put us away. Once we get going it's a bit like a juggernaut so, if you are on top early, you'll need to take advantage. If you play like you did in the League Cup you've got a decent chance. You were excellent that night.

It won't be easy, but we won there a few weeks ago (I know not City's strongest team, before that gets pointed out) so at the very least we shouldn't be fearful. City don't exactly look faultless at the moment, so.... I'm feeling pretty positive we can get something from this.

I'd imagine Bannan takes them if Bent's not on the pitch, but for all we know one of our new signings could be good at penalties. I could imagine Vlaar being a beast at them.

Quote
Christian Benteke insists Villa will be fully focused on Saturday's big clash with Manchester City - and not looking back nostalgically to the cup win.

Villa defeated City 4-2 in the Capital One Cup third round two months ago, with the giant forward playing a key role in the wonderful win.

But Benteke is a firm believer that you can only influence the present moment - and you don't draw anything positive from looking back in life.

He says Villa will be "really motivated" on the here and now as they head to the Etihad Stadium clash this weekend.

He said: "They will try to beat us because they are pushing for the title and also because we eliminated them from the cup. But we are motivated for the game too.

"We are motivated for every game. It doesn't matter whether it's Manchester United, Manchester City, anyone, we are going out to try and get a good result.

"The cup tie won't have any bearing on this match. In football, you have to concentrate on the present - not the past or the future.

"All you can affect is the present moment. We are totally focused on this match, not looking back at the cup win."

Benteke looks set to come up against Belgium pal Vincent Kompany in the game but he says friendship goes out of the window.

He added: "It will be good to come up against Vincent, who I play with for Belgium.

"He is a brilliant central-defender, one of the very best in the Premier League.

"I am looking forward to playing against him. There won't be any texting before the game though. I am focused on the game for Villa."

I can honestly see us nicking a draw or better if we keep it tight for the first hour. They'll start feeling the pressure and come at us leaving some gaps.
Of course, a good beating wouldn't be shock of the century either.

It won't be 0-0 anyway.

I feel a bit more confident than i normally do when we play them up there. Whether that's because we beat them in the cup or because they only seem to win games latley when they bring Dzeko on, i don't know. I saw the highlights of their game against the Albion a few weeks back and the stripeyfilth should have won it easily. It's a good time to play them me thinks.

A) v Fulham - Disappointing defeat

H) v Norwich - Scored but still diasspointing. SCraped a draw.

A) v Sunderland Won andwere the better team

H) v Man U - for an hour great then dropped away.

Slightly worrying is that if we do lose to Citeh (quite likely) and reading beat Everton at home (less likely but possible), then we will be in the bottom 3 by 5 pm Saturday. I just hope this doesn't get to the players at a time when we are beginning to gel as a team.

Bannan quietly withdrew from the Scotland squad midweek with a "knee injury". Im reliably informed that he will be fine for this game.

Apparantly he was penalty duties last week so assuming there is no Bent again he will be this week.

Far to much fire power for our defence. 3-0 loss sorry to say.

Didn't we say " To much firepower for our defence " in the cup game ?
We can do this lot and i think we will. :P

The cup "loss" was a draw over 90 mins, which is all we'll have tomorrow and they played their reserves plus two blokes in midfield that I had never heard of.  I'd be amazed and delighted if we could get a draw.

I'd like to be proven wrong, but I think they'll have too much for us. 3-1 to them.

2-1 to them, reckon Benteke especially will cause them problems mind. Will Lichaj or Stevens play left back I wonder

It's incredible to think how bad our record is up there, I believe it's 8 defeats from the last 9 since they moved.

Fair enough since the takeover but I remember times when we had decent teams and they were shite under Pearce and yet they'd still routinely turn us over with Vassell turning into Pele for the night.

I also remember Distin taking the piss and scoring by running from the halfway line although that may have been at Villa Park?

1-1.
Benteke for us.
I'd rather see Stevens at LB than Lichaj to be honest. Eric is a bloody liability.

Will be a huge test for Bannan and Westwood tomorrow. Might find it a step too far. Garcia and Rodwell have been muck thus far but they might overpower us tomorrow with Toure. Hopefully Lowton and Clark can continue their recent good form. Can see us scoring and creating chances alright but we wont be able to keep them out.

4-2 to City

We'll either get a right good hiding or draw 2-2, hope it's the latter!!
Can't concede early on or we've had it.

F**k it 2-2 Benteke 71, Gabby 86,don't care about them.

UTV!!

Our season's disciplianry record is exactly double that of Citeh - 24Y and 2R versus 11 and 1.
NU and Swnasea get close but ours is the worst in the EPL.

Not sure what that says about today's game ...

A two nil win. We'll go two nil up early in the second half and then shut up shop in classic Villa style.

Benteke is 11/1 to score first and Gabby is 14/1. Either are worth a fiver me thinks.

I was looking at the possible line-up at City on the Graun (http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/nov/16/manchester-city-aston-villa-squad-sheets); the average age of the Villa team is 23 years and 9 months. I know anything can happen in football, but I think the City midfield will have the time of their lives against ours, where the inexperience at Prem level will show. I'm not sure why they've got Weimann lining up on the right side of midfield, however.

3-1 to them I reckon, possibly Benteke for us.

I imagine its because that's where weimann has been playing?
