Not sure I care either way to be honest.  A cup run would be nice, but not at the expense of relegation.

Conveniently going out to these, would only serve to dent our confidence further. We need a convincing win a la Tranmere to bring a bit of belief back

Contemplating Di Canio's smug, cocky, superior, egotistical, boastful, exagerating post-match interviews if we lose means that we have to win. Lambo should show the players other footage of the arrogant cock in advance, to highlight that.

Presumably some of our players will need resting, though we're running out of defensive minded options!

Bannan, Ireland, Bent to come in for me. Think I'd go:

Given - Herd, Lowton, Vlaar, Lichaj - Albrighton, KEA, Bannan - Ireland - Weimann, Bent

Villa to win 2-1; Bent with both

Would like to see Bent, Ireland and Bannan come in and if they do I fully expect us to win.

Lambert may have bought a lot of Championship standard players but that's still a division above Swindon so a tough test but one we should come through

Who knows. I guess it depends on what side PL plays (having said that, our entire playing squad is mediocre). Got a feeling we'll lose which may not be a bad thing.

Our players are better but they're all scared pussies. And without any leaders away to a team used to winning since Di Canio took charge, this could go all Pete Tong.

I haven't seen Stephen Frogatt in a long time. If he's been cryogenically frozen for the past 20 years I fancy he could be our match winner if we defrost him in time.
Title: Re: Swindon Town v Aston Villa Pre-Match Thread
Post by: supertom on October 29, 2012, 05:59:23 AM
On the subject of Di Canio, mad bastard he might be but we could really do with a player like him at the moment.

I think this'll be tough. I suspect a 120 minutes we could do without. Paulo will have his team absolutely fired up for this, and we just don't seem like we want to be out on the pitch at the minute.
I think we'll win but it'll be hard work. It probably won't do us any favours for the next league game either.

Warm up for next weekends game at Sunderland.

Guzan
Lowton Herd Vlaar Lichaj
Holman Ireland Bannan Nzogbia
Bent Benteke

Think it's time to try something different in the middle. A little light weight, but might create a chance, or 2.

Hutton, Lowton, Vlaar, Stevens
Delph, Bannan
Carruthers, Ireland, Gabby
Bent

This is the ideal game to bring Hutton back as we are 1 or 2 injuries away from needing him.

Delph and Bannan anchoring will hopefully mean one of them passing in a forward direction.

Ireland behind Bent with Gabby and Carruthers wide would hopefully say 'attack'

I'd rest KEA and Holman

Guzan
Lowton, Herd, Vlaar, Lichaj (if Herd isn't fit, Lichaj to the right, Lowton inside and Stevens in LB)
Bannan, Westwood
Albrighton, Ireland, Weimann
Benteke

As with others I'd have carruthers on the bench and replace Albrighton at half time if he's looking as ineffective as he did on saturday.  Benteke starting up front because I don't like Bent on his own, Gabby can't score and I want Weimann doing the job Holman has been doing so far.  I'd start Westwood because he needs to get some understandingwith the rest of the team, grouped with Ireland and Bannan as they're all tidy in possession and should allow us to hold on to possession far better than we have in the last few games.

I fear that if they score early on, we'll struggle as we don't seem to have anyone who can stick the ball in the net with any regularity and don't creat many chances anyway.

Di Canio will have them fired up and they'll think they can win after our Saturday performance.

Never the less, I'm hoping we'll scrape home 2-1.

Not sure if Baker or Clark are available, but if they are I would push Herd into midfield to give us a bit more of a physical presence in there.  I would also consider starting Gabby, as his pace will trouble League One defenders.  The last thing we need in this type of game is a half-hearted Bent going through the motions up front.

It's going to be tough and you just know DiCaneo will have his players well up for it. 3-1 Villa.

"But we play Macclesfield in the FA Cup on Saturday and that is more important than Aston Villa.”
- Di Canio. Happy with that, hopefully he'll treat it that way

On a side note, most seem to be up for the 19th minute applause.
PLEASE don't sing the no respect my lord song!

0-2 villa. It's going to be tough. Bent will score and then will be dropped for the trip to SAFC

I'm nervous, but we should have enough quality in the ranks to beat these. Strongest team possible will be needed, we shouldn't suffer with complacency tonight

Apparently Di Cannio has said beating Villa is better than having sex with Madonna, I can't argue with that, Also losing would be better as well

big game for me, i'm more up for cup matches than league games at the moment,

i'm sure he will play Given, and i'm no big fan of Gabby but he did have his occasional great game in the last leg of this comp so i reckon we will see him up front tonight also.

lets face it lambert loves Delph, he loves him with a deep love and so i can see him in the middle again maybe with Bannan,
but whatever we should have enough to get through, the inexperience shouldnt matter as much as Swindon will be the same with little top class experience in the team.

so i am going for a belting pullverising 1 nill to the Villa (og from someone on there side to score)

Manager Paolo Di Canio has warned his players to expect a tough match against their Premier League opponents tonight.

"Aston Villa have a lot of quality and we know we cannot concede chances to them,” he said.  “They have players who can damage us and Paul Lambert will have his side well prepared to win the game. “Paul is an effective manager and with the players he has I think he is playing the right football to get results. Tonight is a big match for them but I am sure the main target for them is the Premier League.”

On second thought, he might be right.

Them 2 - 3 Us

Justin Bieber, Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis.  XTC for them.

I hope Mila risks a yellow card by taking her shirt off when she scores.

Alcohol is available within the ground to away fans in the Arkells Stand (but not in the open Stratton Bank End)

From football ground guide. All the info for Swindon on here : http://www.footballgroundguide.com/swindon_town/index.htm

I have had a crappy day doing an assessment centre for a new job with my existing company and got up at 4.45am this morning to get there on time to do it. Just heading off soon, exhausted, for Swindon in the car and hoping the Villa can raise my spirits. Sadly, one can see how it will probably unfold from here...

Bricking it.

To be honest, if Lambert starts Gabby up front ahead of Bent, or a midfield four of Albrighton, Delph, KEA, Holman i may well throw up even before a ball is kicked

Losing it
