Title: Randy sells American Birmingham City for $1 billion
Post by: cdbearsfan on October 16, 2012, 05:47:06 PM
Randy Lerner has completed the sale of the Atrocious Browns for $1 billion. More good work from the man who got £20 million for Stewart Downing!

what's with the title? They weren't the Amercan Birmingham City when he owned them, and if you look at their history pre-NFL, a bit like ours pre-Sky it's highly decorated. Birmingham City they ain't.

That would be fantastic but i don't think it will happen.
Maybe a few quid in January but not much else.

The old Cleveland had a decent history but they buggered off to Baltimore.

The new Browns have been consistently useless. Even allowing for expansion teams always being poor, they've been beyond shocking.

I hope he puts 50 million into a new Witton End.   He'll get the money back when/if he sells the club.

Coulde not link the Holte with a new Witton and then a new North Stand leaving the Trinity on its own ? Would give a great atmosphere inside the ground.

The history books say Cleveland Browns. Only the players and management left. The name and history remain in Cleveland.

I assumed that the sale had gone through when it was announced in the summer. I guess there is loads of red tape involved in these things though.

Not sure we need to build more seats at the moment to be honest.

I can't quite see the logic in buidling a new Witton lane?

Congratulations Mr L.  Have a nice retirement.  Oh and lucky that divorce went through before the value was known.  Nice work.

Fill in the gap between the Holte and the Witton then redevelop the North Stand to meet up with the Witton.

I believe that Faulkner has already stated that selling the shitbrowns will not make one iota of difference to Villa.

Dear Santa

For Christmas I would like:
- A new stadium (built on the old one)
-  Messi
- A tractor

Ah, that makes more sense. Thought you meant we should knock it down and build a new one!

That is what he said when there were rumours that Lerner was going to sell Villa aswell.
Does that meen that there will be no extra finances for Villa ?

I like the stadium pretty much as it is. Four distinct sides to it with names to them.
Definitely don't want one of those that looks like a bog seat from above.

Develop the North Stand and rename it The Witton End!

Messi would be ok, ;-)

It makes me laugh how it is being spent before it has hit the bank account. My Dad never tells my Mom if he has a win as she 'thinks it lasts forever'. My other half spends it as soon as she sniffs it. Poor old Randy.

Actually we are talking a billion. Is it all relative?

For a billion dollars, I'd want Lionel Messi, Suzanne Virdee and my own spaceship and dinosaur.

Working in Cleveland for a few months so have spoken to lots of locals about Randy & the Browns - the vast majority think highly of him for achieving moderate success when competing with the financial clout of the big boys in the states. He has left a very young team with lots of potential to make progress & a great stadium. As a side line I found out the other day why they are called the Browns - the kit is awful! The story goes that in the 40's they had a Cloughie type head coach called Brown, who over time became all powerful within the club. As part of his influence he persuaded the Board to officially name the team after himself - I am surprised Mr Ellis never thought of that one!!

A really terrible insult to Cleveland Browns fans. They've been rubbish for a long time but likening them to the Blues? Ouch.

Aston Ellis, I went to school with a guy named that.

Randy isn't as rich as you think he is. A billion dollars is ONLY about 700 million quid so he'll have to carry on being a Big Issue seller for the foreseeable future.

Doesn't a US billion have 1 zero less than a UK billion?
Title: Re: Randy sells American Birmingham City for $1 billion

The US Billion is 1,000 million.

The British Billion is 1 million million. These days I'm fairly certain that when referring to Billions we use the US meaning.

The Torys are the responsible party for the change.

Apparently a trillion, which used to be 1 million million million in British money, is now 1 million million.

So a trillion has become a billion.

Back in the 70s, the old billion (a million, million - which is now called a trillion) was a complete waste of a word. Even these days we only ever refer to trillions (formerly billions) when talking about the US national debt.

So it made logical sense to use it in the American sense. Otherwise we'd constantly be referring to x thousand million.

I'd love to be a billionaire.

Faulkner has said it won't affect (effect?) us, but if it was going to he would say that any way.

I don't see a return to the days of free-spending MON had until we're in a decent position, but I do think Lambert will be backed.

I never understood why the fans of both teams had such petty fans, but there are always a few that give the rest ammunition to point out the weaknesses in the other clubs. Shame really.

I hope he puts it into the squad. I know it'll mean we have to carry on turning away the thousands queuing for tickets every game but at least we might stay up!

You'd think he will have twenty million for a couple of players in January wouldn't you?

Even if he puts it all in his Halifax Saver account, he will pick up 15 million in interest over the next 12 months.
