Title: Non league day.
Post by: Shrek on October 11, 2012, 08:03:15 PM
It's non league day this weekend, just wondering if anybody is going to watch anybody?

I remember a few people doing it last year.

Yes. Some actor types at Stratford. Definitely "non-league"!
Am trying to think of funny lines to do with "plays", "star players", "roles", "programmes", "half-time intervals" and high "lines" but too depressed!

Bugger!
Just checked - Worcester City at home. Pints & scoff in The Dragon and a nice gentle ride home on the train!!! Heaven!!!
Still, I'm sure "the play" will be end to end at the RST!

Non league football? What a strange idea. You can't have good bants watching it, and anyway, what's the point if you don't get to see Stevie G, JT, Wazza, Lamps etc?

It's the Victoria Ground for me; Bromsgrove Sporting v Racing Club Warwick. It's only a fiver in (£2.50 concessions) and Sporting are playing some cracking football too.

I'm on the turnstiles this Saturday, so if you come along, say hello.

Did they ever fix the hole in the fence behind the seats stand? Not that I ever used to leg it down the vets car park and sneak in that way, no siree Bob.

It's all secure now (as far as I'm aware). The stadium is in a much better state than it was left by the guys who ran Rovers into the ground.

The pitch is absolutely fantastic, the bar is great too and with an average gate of 250+. things are slowly coming together for them.

Does Jamie Hatch still play in goal for them?

The goalkeeping duties have been shared by Reece Francis and Tom Savage this season.

The team has been completely rebuilt over the last season or so and are hopefully on the way back to better things having had to start in the MFC 2nd division a couple of years ago.

Didn't they have a pitch with a slope like the north face of Everest ? Seem to remember they did when i went for a pre season " Friendly" with Kiddy Harriers a few years ago.

I can't recommend non-league highly enough as an antidote to foul, money mad, moral free cesspit of the proffesional game at the top level.

I was going to Lye V Gornal but a late change of plan sees me hiding from our grumpy leader at Stourbridge.

Not that I remember. Admittedly my last Rovers game was the Barnsley FA Cup match in about '93.

IMO the best food at a football ground i have ever tasted was at Kiddy Harriers.
In the middle of winter you can get a fresh pasty and a large cup of the famous, and i mean famous Aggborough soup. Well, it's more like a stew than a soup and it really is good.
From what i remember they won the non league " Best food" award many times.
If you can't watch the Villa then take a trip to Kidderminster for a game. Not a bad side and the food is great.

They also have hairy feet and palms and infact the whole male population of Kidderminster has been given roles in the up and coming Hobbit movie.
The food is still good though. Hobbit food.

Not so well run any more Dan. Very nearly bankrupt in fact.
Still, one of the easiest Tamworth away-days.

Bloody hell, that is a shock. Do you know if that tosser Baldwin is still on the board ? He nearly fucked up Hednesford town years ago by skimming away cash.

I'm tempted but that seems a bit steep to me, or is that par for the course at a non league level ?

Its one extreme to the other, !! ha ha  just a half mile walk to the ground, leaving the flat at 1430, got to beat the queue at the tea hut !!   Love every minute of it. We (Somerset Lions) sponsored the match ball at the last International Break. You will never hear me moaning about fixture changes, Villa on Sundays means Mallet on Saturdays !!!!

Not great at Amblecote. St Neots won, one nothing.

Two high scoring sides served up a dog of a match in front of over 700, the biggest crowd of the season so far. Even pantomime villain Stefan Moore didn't play due to injury.

Bah, non-league day my arse. When are Man Utd on the telly next?

Highmoor Ibis 2 Slimbridge 3

Dull first half followed by a second half with 5 goals, 3 penalties and a red card!  Pick of the goals was Highmoor's second.  Pity they conceded 2 goals late on to lose.
