Wondered if anyone could help me with something..
Can anyone confirm who Villa's first ever loan signing was?
I have a name who I think might be the answer, but I don't know how far I should be looking back and exactly when loan transfers started
-
The 1st one I can remember was Carbone, pretty sure there was ones before that though.
-
Graham Moseley was in 1974. Any advances?
-
Yes, I have Gustavo Bartelt from Roma in 1999 at the moment, not sure if there are any earlier
-
Well that blows mine out the water, cheers Dave
-
Wasn't Frank McAvennie on loan? *shudder*
-
I think McAvennie was unattached and was on trial.
-
Was Didier Six a loan signing? If so I claim the prize for second oldest so far.
-
When was the loan rule introduced into football?
-
Sometime before 1974 ;)

I don't know if he was on loan but in trying to find that out I did find out he is currently the manager of Togo!

The first one I remember was Malcolm Allen who I think was with us very briefly in 87/88.
-
Most notable loan signing has to be the 5 seconds that the Albion loaned us Brendan Batson in 1981. Pure genius. Or sabotage. I don't think he ever got the credit he deserved for that back pass.
-
I know we loaned Stan Crowther to Man U after the Munich disaster.
So we could be going back as far as that for ours too.
-
Do wartime guest players count as loan signings?
-
Didn't we loan the Wolves keeper Evan Williams before Graham Moseley?
-
surely there were loanees during the 1880's ?

We sold him to them.

Stand corrected, then Dave.
I thought it was just a loan to help them out
-
Did we loan Andy Gray to the Albion at some point, in his second spell?
-
SGT loaned Andy Gray to Notts County at the start of our promotion season, then I think he went to Albion on loan for a short time before he signed for them permanently. The first player I remember us signing on loan was Didier Six, then I think Malcolm Allen was the next.

I cant remember anyone before Graham Moseley either, was it 3-0 game v Millwall he made his debut? Looked a top keeper in the making.
-
Was he a reserve keeper for Derby under Clough and then went on to be the Brighton keeper in the years they were in the top flight and the cup final?
