Available Sunday afternoon.
-
Bent on the bench again.
-
Unchanged- must admit I expected bent to be in the starting line up today.
Friedal dropped for lloris
-
Guzan, Lowton, Vlaar (c), Clark, Bennett, El Ahmadi, Delph, Albrighton, Holman, Agbonlahor, Benteke.
-
Villa are unchanged for the clash with Tottenham.
The team that started the match against West Brom gets the nod at White Hart Lane too.
That means Brad Guzan in goal, Fabian Delph partnering Karim El Ahmadi and Gabby Agbonlahor alongside Christian Benteke up top.
In other news, Brad Friedel loses his place for Tottenham, meaning his top-flight consecutive appearance record is at an end.
VILLA: Guzan, Lowton, Vlaar (c), Clark, Bennett, El Ahmadi, Delph, Albrighton, Holman, Agbonlahor, Benteke. Subs: Given, Bent, N'Zogbia, Lichaj, Bannan, Westwood, Weimann.
TOTTENHAM: Lloris, Walker, Vertonghen, Gallas, Caulker, Dempsey, Lennon, Bale, Dembele, Sandro, Defoe. Subs: Huddlestone, Adebayor, Dawson, Sigurdsson, Friedel, Falque, Townsend.
-
Big Brad's run of top flight games to an end. Well done on the run Brad.
-
Pretty surprised by that, maybe Gabby will play a bit wider this game?
-
I expected bent to start
-
Strange but come on you Villa boys.
-
Let's hope the strikers do what they did to man city.
-
Surprised Bent doesn't start and Benteke does. Benteke had the touch of a pinball machine last week whereas when Bent came on he did what he was supposed to and score.
-

Indeed that's quite an achievement.
-
I expected bent to start
I didn't after him moaning in public. Good decision by the manager as he picks the team not our players. Albrighton lucky to start. Hope their new keeper has a poor debut.
-
I watched Walcott come off the bench yesterday and score a key goal for Arsenal. Nasri,Dzeko and Aguero were all on the bench for Man City. You could make a case for all 4 being as big a reputation player as Bent is. I'm sure all of the them would have wanted to start for their teams but they didn't. Bent should have kept his mouth shut, played his part and understood that we are all having to pull together right now. No room for passengers or egos. He's a really important player for us and I hope he sees that and gets his down.
-
It'll be a good decision as long as Benteke doesn't do his impression of a baby carthorse again, with the first touch to match.
-
Surprised Bent has'nt started as well. Let's hope he comes on and does the business again.
As for Spurs, Daniel Levy must have had a word in Villas-Boas ear and asked him why he's not playing that new goalkeeper he bought for him.
-
I know that it has been said that there is no problem between Bent and Lambert, but i find it strange to have him on the bench instead of on from the start.
Oh well, in Lambert we trust.
-
Perhaps a really fired up Bent coming off the bench (if needs be) would be a very potent weapon. I see the logic in going for the big man, and pace combo though. Think both Gabby and Benteke could have some joy today.
-
Hope the fans get some good chants going at Lloris 'you're just a shit Brad Friedel' etc., be nice to see him gift us a goal on his league debut.
-
I think its a 4-5-1/4-3-3 formation with Gabby and Albrighton out wide to help counter the Spurs wingers threat, so playing a target man up front who can hold the ball up is probably the best option.

Makes sense, proof is in the pudding etc.
Early days, but I really like the look of Benteke.
-

It makes no sense. Benteke was crap, Bent came on and scored, and yet finds himself on the bench again. I'd have thought the point was made last week, if there was any point to be made. We're getting sucked back down towards the bottom 3 rapidly, we can't afford to have a player of Bent's quality not playing.
-
Surprised to see Bent on the bench. I hope he comes on fired up and scores.
Kind of confirms me in the views I expressed in the 'Bent thread' earlier.
-

He's 21 and learning that he has to quick and precise with his touch at this level. I've seen far more experienced players that have cost much more be as careless or inefficient with the ball. Just as I've seen forwards sky the ball instead of chipping the keeper as he did vs Swansea. He does good things and not so good things. I don't think Gabby or Bent are any different.
-
I agree with Risso. I thought Benteke was poor last week and Bent did enough at the end to justify his place. We have to trust that Lambo knows what he is doing
-

Me too

That's the thing Lee, we have to trust the manager that he is showing to treat everyone the same. Once you start showing you have favourites how do you ever get past that? Bent would have been wise to have said publicly that he understands that it is a squad game and he's doing his bit and spoken to Lambert privately. Irrespective of how Lambert tried to blow it off it has to have got his back up a little. Still you hope that he's still picking the side to best play this game.

At this stage, Gabby and Bent are both easily superior. That isn't to say that Benteke won't come good, but he doesn't deserve to keep starting just because Lambert paid big money for him. Weimann looks a far, far more complete and skilful striker than Benteke in my opinion.
-
It might well be the case that Lambert is making another point with regards to Bent. That is to say, don't talk to the press so candidly in the future. I must say that he has every right to do so.
Or, he might just have seen Gabby and Benteke link up well in training all week.
Just a thought on Bent. Is Villa the only place he could get £85k a week? If so, I wouldn't imagine to hear him repeating his comments to reporters after today.
-
Poor team selection for me. Would have Bent back in and certainly wouldnt have Albrighton starting. Huge test for Lowton up against Bale. Havent been that impressed with him yet and would have gone for Lichaj as a better defender. Surprised Herd isnt even making the bench too.
All will be revealed I guess but that looks a very strong Spurs side

I wouldn't be surprised if Lambert weren't happy to lose Bent in January and free up money for a couple of 'his' players.

Is he seriously on 85k a week ?
-
Or maybe Lambert just knows what he's doing. It's why he earns the money for doing while we sit behind keyboards talking shite.

Benteke is going to be somewhat volatile in his performances, but he does offer something different to what we currently have. I think picking him isn't as much about quality as it is about playing options an what might work best against Spurs. In terms of quality, off course Bent and Gabby are better players overall but it is equally possible that he could be a real handful today for Tottenham's defenders and goalkeeper with his presence. Lambert's Norwich won at Spurs last year so maybe he has a plan for today using Benteke.

I wouldn't either as it goes.

Little boy points at emperor who is in the full monty.
-
Although Bent is a better player, he doesn't link the play from the midfield as well as Benteke and we need 11 men for this game, not 10. We saw at West Ham how pointless Bent can be if we dont get the ball to him.
-
If Bent throws a strop I would love Lambert to just take out his Champions' League medal and say 'have a look at that son, where's yours?'
-
Only things i dont agree with in team selection is delph ahead of bannan. Bent deserves to be on the bench as yes he can score goals but his workrate isnt high enough atm in my opinion, he's getting there but still not there 100%. Whatever lamberts thinking is, he's got his mind set and is sticking with it like managers should do, they aren't paid to bend to their "star-players" will and so its about time we had a manager prepared to stand up too them. Lowton and Bennet have both shown talent and have been recognised for it, so lets just hope they can get stuck-in against Bale and co today.
-

Exactly! In my opinion you cant have one player the rest of the team has to play around, it can't work that way and we will suffer for it if his form dips. Having Gabby and Benteke together means we have more options when attacking, not just setting Bent up for him to score and take the credit.
-
Bent ran his mouth off. Respect to Lambert for showing who's boss.
-

Not entirely convinced anymore that would be such a bad thing. I'm a Darren Bent fan and if we still had Ash and Downing I'd never want to see a player like him sold. It's a different time and Bent will be 29 in February. If we can get £15 for him in January, despite the accusations of a lack of ambition, it may be worth it in my opinion.
-
Surprised but will trust Lambert on this. He's come in and shaken a few up and got them out of their comfort zones, Bent clearly being one of them. It's down to the players to make it impossible for them to be dropped. Something we've lacked for years.
-

The idea that Bent is just a goal poacher is complete myth. This season he has tracked back loads and worked selflessly last week when he came on. When we played Swansea he made lots of runs into the channels and linked up well with the midfield.
-
Surprised at that line up. I said last week I'd start this game with the 11 that finished last game. Would have had Bannan in for Albrighton and Bent in for Benteke, and maybe N'zog for Delph. Guess PL knows what he's doing.
-
I hope Lloris has a start to his PL career as De Gea had and we really get stuck into him. That could be another reason for Benteke today.
-

Passion ambition have been lacking for a long time.
-
Lloris is a top, top keeper, but I hope he has a 'mare today.
Strong management from Lambert, sticking with Benteke, but to be honest I thought the big man was truly awful against the Baggies. Bent deserved to start today.
-
Come on me babbies!!
-
Come on you Villa boys!!
-
Bent ran his mouth off. Respect to Lambert for showing who's boss.
I think that's right. After what he said I don't think Lambert could have started him, even if he wanted to.
-
Giving it away easily again
-
can't afford to give Bale that much room
-
Christ. I hope Lowton's going to do better than THAT against Bale for the rest of the game!
Oh, and afternoon everyone.
-
Christ. Could have been 2-0 down already.
-
Defoe should have scored.
-
Well, this isn't the best of starts
-
Fuck me that was close. They do pass it around swiftly.
-
So.....a shaky start, then.
-
Wake up defence.
-
I just watched our U-11s lose to Man Utd 5-9. Shambolic defending throughout.
-
Albrighton looks good.
-
Really need a win here to get back in the title race .....
-
Pretty big test for our two full-backs, this.
-
Well in KEA.
-
That was better from Benteke
-
They're taking the piss out of us down their left.
-
Lowton is going to have to do a lot better than he has so far.
-
Clark is not very good.
-
Fuck sake 5Live...ads, news, ads and a feature preview of the Noocassil-ManUre game which doesn't kick-off for nearly an hour. And yet it's still preferential to the alternative of Woodward on Pravda.
-
Let's try and avoid the aimless hoof lads.
-
Wake up Ciaran!!! Why was he so casual there????
-
This could be a long afternoon!
-
Bale the cheating c**t.
-
What a dive by Bale, cheating twunt.
-
That's a pretty blatant dive from Bale, watching the replays.
-
Dirty monkey dived there.
-
Bale cheating shock
-
Blatant dive from Bale.
-
I think Bent deserves to start but whatever Lambert thinks about the team is his decision I guess...
-
We are way too open.
-
Anyone else think diving should carry more than a yellow card?
-
Bale is a diving bellend. The defence really needs to wake up.
-
The commentators on BBC London are annoying.
-
Anyone else think diving should carry more than a yellow card?
A public stoning gets my vote.
-
Too narrow in midfield
-
Spurs aren't the same team without Modric.
Well in Vlaar.
-
Anyone else think diving should carry more than a yellow card?
Not sure more than a yellow but they'd cut it out if they introduced retrospective cards for cheating
-
Vlaar did well against Bale there.
-
'kin ell, Ron is quicker than he looks, isn't he?
-
All of their players seem to be twice as fast as ours.
Ok, except for Vlaar.
-
Think the boys should be made to spend all week training on technique.
-
I can't stand Bale, massive cheat.
-
Looks like we didn't bring a huge away contingent
-
That was, er, interesting from Bennett.
-
Anyone else think diving should carry more than a yellow card?
A public stoning gets my vote.
There's not enough of it about!
-
Looks like we didn't bring a huge away contingent
They're in good voice though.
-
Anyone else think diving should carry more than a yellow card?

A yellow at the time or a straight red on video review retrospectively with an automatic one match ban and fine. It's not simulation or diving, it's cheating! Call it what it is, but the weak and useless FA won't deal with it whatever term they care to use!
-
I think Gabby will be key today, need to get him on the ball running at spurs as often as possible.
-
Well done Spurs fans.
-
Well done Spurs fans.
This.
-
Good shot from Benteke.
-
Nice that Spurs fans joined in the Petrov applause. Hope our lot don't start the 'no respect' thing
-
Good effort Benteke.
-
We look the better team to me.
-
Benteke looks much better today.
-
Cracking tackle by Vlaar
-
Hmmm. I'm sure there is something in this Agbonlahor & Benteke partnership, but is it enough to leave Bent out for?
-
Well done Ron again
-
Nice one Vlaar!
-
Vlaar and Benteke looking much improved. A goal would be lovely.
-
We're looking better, especially going forward. But we're so open that they're getting us 1 v 1 all the time. Our defenders seem to be error prone and they have good forwards. It's a matter of time unless we tighten it up a bit.
-
Those scamps shouting "HOOF" every time we clear the ball. They really have swallowed all that delusional bollox about being the English Barcelona. I'm not impressed with them at all. Take Bale out and they're a posh Fulham.
-
That's come to nothing, but we played that all the way out from back to front there in some style. Quite impressive in a non-threatening way.
-
Fuck sake Delph, does he ever learn?
-
There it is; Delph picks up his customary yellow card.
-
Delph needs to learn to tackle.
-
Delph's first tackle leads to a yellow. Some things don't change.
-
Delph's habitual early yellow g'rrrr
-
Delphs customary booking.
-
Anyone have a radio link?
-
Another week, another Delph yellow.
-
NIce interception from El Ahmadi, poor offside from Benteke. Still, he's doing OK so far.
-
Anyone have a radio link?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbclondon
-
Is this on any internet radio station? All I can find is Liverpool Stoke on talk sport (puke).

-
Corner for Spurs.....
-
...and another...
-
...and a goal kick for Villa.
-
Delph needs to be careful.
-
Second half their crowd will turn if we keep frustrating them.
-
Delph foul again.

Can't get it online due to contractual reasons apparently!
-
nice move then just ahead of Gabby
-
Gabby would have scored that a couple of years ago
-
Not sure how Gabby didn't get there first there, good ball by Holman.
-
Good keeping
-
Oh I get it, we tackle them, it's a foul, they foul us, it's a tackle.
-
Gabby would have scored that a couple of years ago
Or a couple of weeks ago like he did.
Hugo is Boss though.
-
Gabby bottled that
-
We ain't getting much off the ref.
-
Holman isn't quite as effective as usual so far today.
-
it appears that unless a Spurs player breaks a leg we won't be getting a free kick. Karim was mugged there.
-
On the one hand we're doing ok. But you do feel spurs could step it up in a bit and I'm not sure if we can. Couple of interesting breaks in the last couple of minutes though
-
Anyone else think Lennon is actually a bit crap?
-
Well played, Guzan! Spurs probably should have scored there.
A fairly even game so far, I'd say.
-
Goo-goo gadget Guzan.
-
On the one hand we're doing ok. But you do feel spurs could step it up in a bit and I'm not sure if we can. Couple of interesting breaks in the last couple of minutes though
we need to get to the ball first more often in midfield. That will undo us in the end if we don't address it
-
Love the ironic cheers from the villa end there!
-

Not for me Matt. A spurs team with Modric and I'd agree, but they aren't quite the same this time around.
-
A goal now would be nice.
-
Delph is being more than a little careless, and it's more than a little frustrating.
-
Afternoon chaps, hows it going?
-
Afternoon chaps, hows it going?
Better than last time
-
can we stop just clipping those free kicks in. How about a little pace and whip? We really have been crap at set piece delivery in the past two years
-
Delph is being more than a little careless, and it's more than a little frustrating.
I hope PL will sub him at half time We don't really want to be down to 10 men
-
I think we've done okay so far after a shaky start, I don't remember too many Spurs opportunities.
-
Afternoon chaps, hows it going?
Um, pretty well all things considered. Fairly even, not too inspiring.
-
Is this a library chant the villa fans :)
-
We're frustrating them alright, but we don't look like scoring. As we very rarely keep a clean sheet, especially away from home, we could come unstuck in the second half.
-
Afternoon chaps, hows it going?
Better than last time
are we playing well crap or just a bit meh? (meh is me getting down wiv der kids innit)
-
Am I the only one who thinks absolutely every free-kick we have is just going to be a waste of time? We never put in a ball with any intent.
-
can we stop just clipping those free kicks in. How about a little pace and whip? We really have been crap at set piece delivery in the past two years
Thats been frustrating me too, we're not a big side therefore we need to be whipping them along the 6 yard line.
-
Delph is being more than a little careless, and it's more than a little frustrating.
I hope PL will sub him at half time We don't really want to be down to 10 men
Indeed. He does some good stuff too, but so often makes a poor pass or a stupid tackle. I think I'd pick Bannan ahead of him at the moment.
-
Ahhh answered above...
-
Afternoon chaps, hows it going?
Better than last time
are we playing well crap or just a bit meh? (meh is me getting down wiv der kids innit)
we've stifled them Ferg. They don't like it. It's a mediocre game to be honest.
-
Well we're in the game, but we need to be a lot more clinical. Bale is a disgrace.
-
I'll take that as a HT scoreline. We rode our luck a bit but continue to show signs of moving in the right direction. The single most important thing for me is the difference between today and a year ago when we waved the white flag as we handed in the team sheet.
-
Good half. Add a bit more of goal threat and I'd be saying it was us who were the top 4 contenders.
-
Happy with that to be fair.
-
I'd worry about Delph on the yellow but we need him and El Ahmadi working hard in the middle. Not really a game for Zog and Bannan's less defensively-inclined attributes.
-
Happy with 0-0, but we need to be better in the last third with our decision making and ball retention.
-

Yep. The difference is massive isn't it. Thank fuck!
-
Am I the only one who thinks absolutely every free-kick we have is just going to be a waste of time? We never put in a ball with any intent.
Unless bannan is taking it.
-
Hope we can keep it nice and tidy again second half and have Bent on the bench if we feel we can go for the win.
-
Well we're in the game, but we need to be a lot more clinical. Bale is a disgrace.
What did he do?
-
Attrocious game, were doing alright though.
-
Well we're in the game, but we need to be a lot more clinical. Bale is a disgrace.
What did he do?
Tried to get Guzan sent off with a disgraceful dive.
-
Well we're in the game, but we need to be a lot more clinical. Bale is a disgrace.
What did he do?
An excellent impersonation of Tom Daley.
-
45% possession. two shots on target, one off.
-
Half time. Not too bad so far, after a slightly shaky start. Vlaark doing well at the back, El Ahmadi in good form in the middle, bursts of hope from Gabby and Benteke, but a quiet game for Holman so far and very mixed stuff from Delph.
Could easily go either way.
-
Bit better than meh to be honest. We look pretty solid, think in most games this season we'll need a goal to get any points and we don't look great going forward. Amazing how many times the final ball is too heavy or the first touch in the final third is not up to scratch. Even Gabby's chance I think the pass was slightly overhit by Holman.
-
Well we're in the game, but we need to be a lot more clinical. Bale is a disgrace.
What did he do?
Dived like a monkey after a coconut.
-
Am I the only one who thinks absolutely every free-kick we have is just going to be a waste of time? We never put in a ball with any intent.
Agreed, we don't seem to attack the ball very well, haven't really since Laursen retired.
-
Well we're in the game, but we need to be a lot more clinical. Bale is a disgrace.
What did he do?
An excellent impersonation of Tom Daley.
He does a good impression of a chimp too
-
Well we're in the game, but we need to be a lot more clinical. Bale is a disgrace.
What did he do?
Awful cynical dive even though Guzan was nowhere near touching him.
-
Just seen a replay of the Bale dive. That is disgusting; surely a booking if no free-kick was given against us?
-
They just showed the Bale dive again, it really is nothing short of disgraceful. I'd love the FA to have the minerals to give a ban for that kind of thing.
-
Happy with 0-0, but we need to be better in the last third with our decision making and ball retention.
Spot on.
-
Good shape and composure. Certainly better than last year. I think some combination of bent, n'zogbia and bannan might help to create some danger in the last 20
Pretty poor game though. A bit soporific. Albrighton doesn't seem to be doing much apart from helping to double up on bale
Games at this pace are right up el ahmadi's street. He's looked good do far
Pretty impressed with Bennett and Lowton so far too
-
Well we're in the game, but we need to be a lot more clinical. Bale is a disgrace.
What did he do?
An excellent impersonation of Tom Daley.
Should definately been carded. Toss pot planet of the apes monkey boy.
-
I'll take that as a HT scoreline. We rode our luck a bit but continue to show signs of moving in the right direction. The single most important thing for me is the difference between today and a year ago when we waved the white flag as we handed in the team sheet.
Yep. The difference is massive isn't it. Thank fuck!
I was thinking that too. We are looking to pass it and we chase everything down. That never happened last year.
-
Thing is it's one of the worst dives I've ever seen, Guzan was miles away from him.
-
Why didn't the linesman flag it for a dive? Must admit when I first saw it I thought they'd both met the ball and it came off Bale for a throw. But the linesman was perfectly positioned to see what Bale did.
-
Decent enough 1st half - Vlaar looking solid and gabby and benteke linking well at times.
Although the 1st half at saints was ok too so let's not get carried away yet.
-
Encouraging performces from Gabby who is linking up play superbly, Ron looks composed at the back and KEA is very tidy.
I'd like to see us shooting more, especially when outside the box.
Not sure what changes we can make to improve 2nd half. Shame we don't have Herd on the bench to replace Delph as he's on a yellow, I guess Bent could come on, not that we're creating any real chances. Albrighton's delivery isn't great, not that N'Zogbia offers anything on the wing.
Spurs, as I mentioned pre-match, are nothing special and Hilts got it spot on regarding Bale.
-
A solid enough first half, with neither side really impressing. Delph is a sending off waiting to happen though, I'd sub him at half time.
-
Not bad so far against 'these'....
-
Delph is a sending off waiting to happen though, I'd sub him at half time.
Yes, he is much like Paul Scholes......without the being a great player bit.
-
Come on Villa. 3 points please
-
I'm sure MOTD will just laugh off Bales diving antics. The media love him.
-
OK 0-0 is just about acceptable at half time but with Chelsea winning again yesterday we need to see off this lot in the second half otherwise we might as well give them the title today.
-
OK 0-0 is just about acceptable at half time but with Chelsea winning again yesterday we need to see off this lot in the second half otherwise we might as well give them the title today.
Bravo sir!
-
Oh, close! Benteke should have done better with that, I think!
-
Great chance. Would Bent have put it away?
-
Bent would have buried that...Great chance.
-
Should have scored.
-
He had to score there.
-
Good start.
-
Bent would have buried that...Great chance.
Apart from all the similar ones he doesn't?
-
That was our chance.
-
Well in Lowton.
-
Bent would have buried that...Great chance.
Apart from all the similar ones he doesn't?
Granted he needs two or three chances a game but he was pretty clinical as a sub last week.
-
And Bennett!
-
Great defending by Bennett, most people get slaughtered by Lennon.
-
Impressive again from Bennett, he looks a good player, composed at the back and pretty good going forward. Promising.
-
We've come out very well here, need to score.
-
Benteke SHOULD have had that one.
-
Oh. Dear.
-
What achance.
-
What a fuckin miss.
-
Fuckssake. That was a sitter and Bent would have buried that one
-
fucks sake gotta score that
-
Missed another great chance
-
What an absolute donkey. Sigh.
-
Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Benteke you have to score those, that is an easy chance.
-
I wonder what Bent on the bench is thinking ?
-
Benteke again.
-
Get bent on ....
-
I know he's new to the league, but he needs to do better than this, two games in a row he's been a bit shit. If he's not ready, he shouldn't be starting.
-
He's not a donkey, he needs time, he'll be a cracking player.
-
If Bent had kept his mouth shut last week he'd have started today
-
I didn't see that but I gather benteke just missed a sitter?
-
I didn't see that but I gather benteke just missed a sitter?
Or two
-
Why does the face of Bosko Balaban keeps flashing into my mind?
-
He's not a donkey, he needs time, he'll be a cracking player.
Should he be starting if he's not ready to bury that sort of chance?
I'd back Ivanhoe to have scored that.
-
He's not a donkey, he needs time, he'll be a cracking player.
So would Weimann if given the same opportunities. This is purely and simply Lambert playing somebody who he paid good money for. He doesn't deserve to be starting at all, it's clear he's not ready yet.
-
Dammit Savo.. er... Benteke!
-
Give the lad a chance. Getting in the right position is two thirds of the job and he's doing that consistently, the finishing will come.
Come on Villa!
-
If Bent had kept his mouth shut last week he'd have started today
This. And this is what's annoying. I appreciate Lambert wants to show who's boss but Bent should have started today. Benteke does everything right but his finishing is really substandard at the moment.
-
I didn't see that but I gather benteke just missed a sitter?
Ha! I missed it too, due to some retuning or something going on!
I'm sure it wasn't that bad, though....
-
Get Bent on now, I'm not writing off Benteke at all but we need to take these chances.
-
Two sitters and thankfully Defoe buried that wide.
-
We need to stop Defoe cutting inside and shooting, he's their only real threat for me.
-
Defoe can miss them to.
-
Cos Bent's never missed sitters? Seem to remember him missing a fair few at this very ground and getting slagged off by Redknapp
-
The Tesco bags referred to him as a 'Shit Emile Heskey' the other week.
-
Cynical from KEA
-
Poor challenge from KEA.
-
Phew. I thought el ahmadi already had a booking!
Spurs coming into it and we're struggling to keep the ball a bit
-
Both KEA and Delph on a yellow card now.
-
Fuck.
-
Shit
-
Inevitable. Now we need to chase it.
-
Bollocks
-
Bollocks bollocks bollocks
-
Shit
-
Bollocks. Saw that one coming
-
Fuck it
-
For fucks sake, well you don't take your chances and you pay for it.
-
Bollocks. Jammy bastards with the deflection.
-
Should we make a change or two.
Oh bollcoks fucking hell
-
Well look how costly those misses have proved now.
-
Jammie fuckers!
-
Another lucky and undeserved goal against. But that's what happens when you miss 2 absolute sitters.
-
It was coming.
Can't miss the kind of chances we have and expect to get anything out of a game like this.
-
we are missing chances again!! Work rate fine! but we have to score when we have chances!
-
Fluked off his heel. Unlucky!
-
Let's get bent on
-
That miss by Benteke could be costly now
-
And here is the stupid slow song those wankers sing.
-
Have they scored? Damn sounds like we are playing quite well too. Annoying.
-
And that's what happens when you don't take your chances - fucks sake
-
We've got our 2 best strikers on the bench. Get them on there!
-
The second is coming!
-
Have they scored? Damn sounds like we are playing quite well too. Annoying.
But typical villa.
-
Time for a change!
-
Cant see us scoring
-
And here is the stupid slow song those wankers sing.
It really is a wanker's anthem.
We need to respond immediately or this game will run away from us.
-
Jammy ******, deflection
-
Cant see us scoring
Not with Bent sitting on the bench.
-
the defending was shit for the goal, yet all we will hear is Benteke missed 2 chances. I really hope we give this lad a chance.
-
Cant see us scoring
Maybe bring on Bent and Bannan?
-
I really fear for us this season. Too many average players and untried kids all in the same team.
-
Get Bent and Zog on. We can't be any less blunt up front.
-
I really fear for us this season. Too many average players and untried kids all in the same team.
Me too.
-
the defending was shit for the goal, yet all we will hear is Benteke missed 2 chances. I really hope we give this lad a chance.
I'd rather we gave Weimann a chance. That lad is quality.
-
Yep, time for a change now.
-
Here comes Bent
-
Here comes supersub.
-
How long till their 2nd?
-
the defending was shit for the goal, yet all we will hear is Benteke missed 2 chances. I really hope we give this lad a chance.
I'd rather we gave Weimann a chance. That lad is quality.
So much more quality than Benteke that he's scored a whole league goal more in 5x as many appearances.
-
I'd have Bent and Weimann on for Benteke and Albrighton.
-
N'Zogbia and Bent coming on.
-
Have a feeling PL likes to select the players he's bought, so can see Bent leaving in January
-
I really fear for us this season. Too many average players and untried kids all in the same team.
And our manager appears to have fallen out with the only person that can score goals
-
Weimann is hardly prolific.
-
Benteke definitely needs more chances, he's only 21 and showed on his debut that he's got it on him.
Feel sorry for Weimann, feel like he's a great all-round team player
-
Not Adebayor. He fucking loves playing us.
-
Well, if ever there was a time for N'Zogbia to do.....well, something, it's today.
-
All them since the goal. We are so brittle, we collapse when we concede.
-
Easy!
-
Who came off with Albrighton?
-
Double sub might help..
-
Shit.
-
Who came off?
-
Game over!
-
2-0 Game over
-
Fuck it.
-
Fuck. Game over
-
the defending was shit for the goal, yet all we will hear is Benteke missed 2 chances. I really hope we give this lad a chance.
I'd rather we gave Weimann a chance. That lad is quality.
So much more quality than Benteke that he's scored a whole league goal more in 5x as many appearances.
You do realise that that's an entirely hopeless argument. Weimann is clearly a much better player. And bollocks, Spurs score a second. Perhaps Lambert doesn't *actually* know what he's doing?
-
we are shit
and we are in the shit
-
Who came off with Albrighton?
Delph, and about time.
-
2-0 game over, midfield was nowhere.
-
balls to it
-
I really don't understand this business of not playing Bent. For all his faults, he is the only player who looks like he can score on a regular basis.
-
Oh fuck off. Bennett at fault again.
-
What a load of jelly and eels.
-
5 points from 7 games, fucking hell.
-
Really shite
-
There you go. Sooner or later, we're going to have to win a league game. Shame it isn't going to be today.
-
Shit.
-
My stream died before the second. Right. Well that's enough torture for one weekend
-
N'zogbia and bent for benteke and albrighton I reckon.
No delph. Hmm we could either now be really dangerous or get ripped to pieces!
Holman sitting in the middle now?
Game over. Christ I need to stop calling this. Real chance we'll lose 2-3 more now I think with us having cometely opened up our midfield!
-
We are in a really mess.
-
We are mostly shit away from home and have been for quite some time.
-
Weimann is hardly prolific.
And Benteke and Gabby are?
-
Tidy finish by Lennon for 2-0. Spurs have looked all game as if they could move into second gear when they felt like it.
-
I wish I didn't care
-
the defending was shit for the goal, yet all we will hear is Benteke missed 2 chances. I really hope we give this lad a chance.

You're so desperately predictable.

We are in a really mess.
Mess are in really we a.
-
Looking like 3 or 4 the way the Spuds are playing
-
We are mostly shit away and home and have been for quite some time.
Fixed
-
This could be 3 or 4 , Southampton and West Ham all over again. Do well for 35 mins, have a bunch of chances , ... all missed and we end up at 2-nil.
Work in progress I guess, We have a bunch of players with limited experience , but time is on our side at the moment. No panic yet.
-
We are mostly shit away from home and have been for quite some time.
And indeed at home.
-
How did it come to Tottenham fucking Hotspur being ten times the team that we are.
-
This reminds me horribly of the changes against Southampton, there is no cohesion at all.
-
the defending was shit for the goal, yet all we will hear is Benteke missed 2 chances. I really hope we give this lad a chance.
I'd rather we gave Weimann a chance. That lad is quality.

How is it? Surely if a striker is clearly a much better player then he can score more than 1 more goal in 5x as many appearances as the shitter striker?
But if it makes you happy to write off a 21 year old new signing in his 5th game and us off after 7 games then knock yourself out.
-
I think the midfield has to take a lot of the rap. Lack of width not helping the full backs;
-
All over us. Where's the midfield?
-
mess we in a really
-
We do look a desperate outfit at times.
-
the defending was shit for the goal, yet all we will hear is Benteke missed 2 chances. I really hope we give this lad a chance.

Predictable, like this result you mean? Who the fuck are you anyway?
-
The manager can't afford to be pig headed in two weeks time - bent to start at Fulham , please .
-
BB coming on now for some 40 yard Hollywood passes, oh great!
-

Who do I need to be?

Nzogbia did something
-
How did it come to Tottenham fucking Hotspur being ten times the team that we are.
I believe it has something to do with the wages.
-
How did it come to Tottenham fucking Hotspur being ten times the team that we are.
We wasted money, they spent it on better players. They have had a lot of discipline in the direction they are travelling and were even willing to dump Redknapp to stay on that path. The MON years have set us back 10 years.
-
How is it? Surely if a striker is clearly a much better player then he can score more than 1 more goal in 5x as many appearances as the shitter striker?
But if it makes you happy to write off a 21 year old new signing in his 5th game and us off after 7 games then knock yourself out.
I haven't written him off, so no need for the hyperbole. I'm just questioning him starting in the team, when his all round play has been crap, and we have better players not in the team.
-
BB coming on now for some 40 yard Hollywood passes, oh great!
Well the midfield so far has been totally anonymous so he can't do much worse can he?
-
Christ, how can you not beat the first defender with a free kick?
-
At least my stream has gone shit to dull the pain a bit.
And stop warning me that there have been 17 new replies... I don't care!

How did it come to Tottenham fucking Hotspur being ten times the team that we are.
Just ask Randy Lerner. I will not turn on Lambert even if we get relegated with 5 points.
This is Lerner's doing. It was him who signed the cheques under MON, him who replaced a top six side with a mixture of kids and unproven lower league players.
-
.....let off
-
How did it come to Tottenham fucking Hotspur being ten times the team that we are.
Piss poor club management...
-
How did it come to Tottenham fucking Hotspur being ten times the team that we are.
`arry's open cheque book in previous seasons. I still think they will be in the shit a season or two from now just like all 'arry's clubs after he leaves.

It's the midfield that's the problem for me, too. Delph is hit or miss, at best, and KEA looks a good player, but it seems to me that teams can march a long way forward towards our penalty area before they are challenged.
It is too soon to 'write us off', but it's a poor start to the season and no mistake.

What happened to our passing game that looked so promising early season

10 times the team? They have more cutting edge with Lennon and Bale and are a better team currently, but they aren't some kind of wonder team. They've scored a lucky goal and soft one - we've missed two great chances.
-
Christ, how can you not beat the first defender with a free kick?
Put him in a Villa shirt
-
How did it come to Tottenham fucking Hotspur being ten times the team that we are.
We wasted money, they spent it on better players. They have had a lot of discipline in the direction they are travelling and were even willing to dump Redknapp to stay on that path. The MON years have set us back 10 years.

i think we practice hitting the first man we are that good at it!!
-
I can't watch any more. But away from home I do think Lambert's tactic of opening up the midfield to get us late goals is going to see us take a few more tonkings
We never expected to get anything out of this one though. I do think dropping bent was a mistake. Surely he'd have scored one of bentekes chances today?
-
10 men now, that's it!
-
So we have Doug's penny pinching for years and everyone moans, Randy comes in and gives the manager wads of cash to spend and ultimately everyone moans.
God we do love to moan don't we.

We all know Lerner is a useless prick, but these players just do not seem to have the stomach for an impending relegation battle.
Lambert has a real uphill battle on his hands at this club.
-
The changes here and at Southampton have just been tactically wrong, there is no midfield and we're getting slaughtered again.

Lambert's subs were terrible.
-
Most of the footballing world don`t give flying F*** about the Villa - I`m starting to start feel that way myself.
Are we actually any better under this fella?
Losing away at Spurs is something I can come to terms with but losing at Southampton less so
We are in for a long hard struggle - with the players at our disposal I feel for our Premier League status.
-
Bennett on a stretcher. Looks like he'll be out for a while.
-
Is that Bennett who likes like he has a broken bone?

Indeed, how could I forget. That set us back many years. People need to get over MON. Yes he's a twat but let's try to see the bigger picture and realise how incompetent his superiors were and have been.
-

Take it easy. I said the MON years which means I'm including everyone at the club that were responsible for the spending and wastefulness. He played a big part on where we are whether you think so or not.
-
So we have Doug's penny pinching for years and everyone moans, Randy comes in and gives the manager wads of cash to spend and ultimately everyone moans.
God we do love to moan don't we.
There's no point spending money like it's going out of fashion if two thirds of it is wasted.

Lets hope the welsh Jacques Cousteau doesnt rub salt in the wound with a goal.

I hope the lad makes a speedy recovery.

I felt our midfield did a better protecting job than normal today. But no coincidence that our subs have left us open

Fuck this shit. Fuck spurs.
Bent should have started.
It's annoying that we aren't getting the results despite the performances we are putting in are improved.

We won't get results if we play well and don't score. We have had chances! we just missed them!, It doesn't get any easier in the coming months
-
I can't quite put my finger on why, but we do seem to fade in games don't we?
-
The MON years weren't a disaster but they were a colossal missed opportunity which was compounded by the subsequent two years of shocking top-level decision making.
-
Lambert is quality, but i hope it doesn't prove that he's come at the wrong time, i.e with a shit chairman, very little fan patience mainly due to that, and with just too much to do.
-
Bent should have started.
I agree.
Can't help thinking that Lambert is acting the hard man by omitting him.
-
So we have Doug's penny pinching for years and everyone moans, Randy comes in and gives the manager wads of cash to spend and ultimately everyone moans.

Well look at where we are. And look at where Everton, Spurs and even Newcastle are. As Fergal said, it's been piss-poor management of the club. I hope people don't turn on Lambert, it's not his mess.
-
we need something at Fulham!
-
Oh brilliant, just what we needed
Let's get this one over with
-
Whats the betting Benteke will be starting the next game?

I'll give it one more minute, then I'm afraid I'll have to abandon this crap.

MO'N told Lerner which players he wanted, Lerner backed him. If Lerner had denied the manager any money to buy these players he'd have been vilified as Doug was, it was MO'N who said get me Beye, NRC, Heskey, Harewood, Sidwell etc, it was MO'N who then fell out with most of them and refused to play them. How's that Lerner's fault?
-
Whats the betting Benteke will be starting the next game?
10-1 on. If you spend most of your transfer kitty on a player, you have to play him, even if he contributes precisely nowt.
-
And with a click, it's gone.
-
we need something at Fulham!
Indeed. Losing at White Hart Lane is no disgrace, they're a good team, but in the context of the games coming up and the league table in general, this is a bit of a shitter. A draw would have kept us bubbling over, such as we were, but this will just add a little more reason to start worrying.
-

For not setting a budget for O'Neill to work with, to not realise that wages had to be built into cash flow projections, for continuing to back O'Neill when it was clear that lots of his signings weren't working.

I hate getting into arguments with villa fans yet its all we seem to have done for the past two and a half years.
I miss the good old harmonious days as we happily marched up the table
-
Has Bent contributed anything yet?
-
we need something at Fulham!
Indeed. Losing at White Hart Lane is no disgrace, they're a good team, but in the context of the games coming up and the league table in general, this is a bit of a shitter. A draw would have kept us bubbling over, such as we were, but this will just add a little more reason to start worrying.
Fulham ain't bad at home, I just hope Berbatov is still out.
-
I've only just got back and turned the match on. The problem as i see it is that all their players are better than ours. It's not fair.

So we have Doug's penny pinching for years and everyone moans, Randy comes in and gives the manager wads of cash to spend and ultimately everyone moans.
God we do love to moan don't we.

There's no point spending money like it's going out of fashion if two thirds of it is wasted.

Good point, spot on!

I must be the only one who thought we did OK. We are talking about a team who have just beat man u. Only reason they scored was a fluke goal.
-
Has Bent contributed anything yet?
I might be wrong, as I've been trying to block this game out, but I don't think he's actually been able to touch the ball yet.
-
90 secs left plus stoppages. Easy we're gonna win 3-2
must go now Matron wants me!
-
We get the easiest chance of the whole game, miss it, then it all goes tits up.
-

You know the score on these match threads:
- everyone ok whilst 0-0
- they score a lucky goal and suddenly we've been shit all game
- we get a luck equaliser, it's been a great fighting performance
-
It's just been pointed out in the commentary of the stream I'm watching that we've won 3 league games since the start of January.
-

And that is the problem. No disgrace in losing here. Anyone who thought this season would not be challenging is very naive. It will get better but will take time.
-
I'm use to us not winning anymore. Maybe we need to play at our level now, what we do we the ball isn't good enough for this league.
-

Excellent, I agree with this.
-
My brother hasn't seen us win in the last 18 matches he has attended.

I've heard his name once in commentary since he came on, he gave the ball away! Benteke has been constantly in the thick of it, maybe that's why Bent didn't start? Just a thought!
-

It's a worrying stat but you have to bear in mind that we've only had a proper manager for a handful of those games.
-

Two easy chances within a few minutes. Should have been two up when they scored.
-
Were aren't a million miles away from being a good team, bit we are going to need points if we don't want to get dragged into a relegation battle, with all the added pressures that will put on a young team.
We need a bit more experience in midfield too, but January is a long way off.

Don't forget the obligatory pop at Randy Lerner once we go a goal down.
-
Buy Championship calibre players and sooner or later you end up there - simple as that.
-
The most pleasing aspect Is that I chose not to go

That's not quite true, not everyone has said that!
We have played great for 35 mins, as we did at West Ham and also Southampton, but unless we have someone who can take chances we will lose! Simple! It is work in progress , expect ups and downs. Let's face it there is no disgrace in losing to Spurs, we should however beat Saints, etc. But we need to score !

Bit of a lazy stat IMHO. Most of the games were with a more or less completely different team undera useless manager. Having said that I am concerned we've only got 5 points from a relatively easy starting 7 games - the Southampton result was a real sickener
-
Dreadful. 5 points from 7 games is very poor, whatever the circumstances.

Worrying stat that is.

Can we please just fast-forward to the end of the season when our young players will have settled, we're climbing the table and all our little flicks and passes are coming off.
Right now, I'm too scared that we will remain the square root of shit for the rest of time.
-

It is a disgrace we are supposed to be a competitive football club. They would of won this all day long with 1 goal.
-
At half time at 0-0 I was pleased with how we had kept it at 0-0 and asked for us to be a little more patient in the last third and retain the ball better.
The problem we had was that we were playing as well as we could and our substitutions made us worse - their substitutions improved them. Darren Bent is just the type of striker we needed when we purchased Heskey, as a struggling side he offers the square root of fuck all unless he is 6 yards from goal. Sadly a pitch is 110 yards. The fact of the matter is we're not good enough. Delph, Bannan and Albrighton have all started games this season and they're clearly not good enough. El Ahmadi doesn't instill me in confidence when we play 4-4-2. Holman, you can't fault his effort or work rate but the quality is championshipesque. As for the youngsters like Bennett, Lowton and Benteke, they need to be given time, but it would help their development if they were playing with experienced premiership players and not the likes Delph, Bannan and Albrighton.
Spurs are a million miles ahead of us, the diffference being they have an astute business man who knows his football in Daniel Levy, we have Lerner who doesn't give a fuck.
Even West fucking Brom are better than us and it fucking hurts like hell.
