Title: Villa in the lower leagues
Post by: Rigadon on September 29, 2012, 09:04:31 PM
Interesting article, hope is this correct place to post it.

Just shows how much the game goes (or used to go) in cycles.

Edited as initial link as randomly incorrect!

Interesting quote about mid-table teams just being two bad decisions away from relegation.

I also see Sutton gets a mention in the Man Utd bit - two of my best friends at Vesey in the 60s were United supporters. And during that period I'd suffered more violence at football matches than anything in later decades, mostly at the hands of United thugs (I used to accompany my mates to United games in the Midlands for some strange reason).

And as a counter to the dewy-eyed reminiscences about how wonderful it was to be in the Third Division, I can't forget just how hapless Villa were in most of the 60s.

Hmmm...it all seems a bit grudging about the Villa. It's like 'yeah, they served their time, but eventually got it right'. The bits about United and Everton, in contrast, are almost embarrassing in their froth.
