0-0 AET
4-5 on penalties to Aston Villa.
Nurse!

Manchester City Reserves 5 Aston Villa 1
-
4-0 to Man City.
-
4-1 first half demolition by the manx gabby to score for villa
-
A new hole will be torn.
-
6-2
-
I think I'm just going to pretend this game isn't happening
-
Them 2 Us 1
-
4-2.
Liam and Noel, two each.
Roll With It.
-
I assume you can pay on the night. I wasn't going to bother, but, hey, I'm actually quite confident of, if not a positive result, a decent performance.
-
We'll lose, but at least we can then start concentrating on the all important 40 points for safety.
-
Everytime we go there I always come out with the same line "We must keep it tight for the first twenty minutes and not conceed", unfortunately were usually 2 down by that point. I'd show the lads a video of 94 and 96 and let them know what this competition means to this club. However 3-0 City.
-
4-0 Man City.
-
4-0 Man City.
Would be about my estimation too...
-
4-0
I reckon Aguero will start .
Gabby, Bennett and Nzog maybe will start . Like to see Delph and Baker get a game.
-
I can't see us getting anything 4-0
-
Ever the optimist we'll win 2-1. They'll not be interested in this competition so will only play their 2nd 11 - players like Milner, Clichy, Johnson, Balotelli...........oh
-
CiŁy Youth 1 - 3 Aston Villa
Bent x 2
Holman
-
4-0
If we play really well we might get a consolation.
-
As Bollo would say - "I have a bad feeling about this..."
3-0 at best.
-
Them= some v Us= none.
-
Tevez on the bench today against Arsenal. Being rested to take us apart on Tuesday?
-
I just hope for some positives.
Probably go 3 down then hopefully with the pressure off, we can start to play some football and a couple of goals to give us back some confidence.
A morale-boosting 2-3 or 2-4.
-
Sadly for yet another season of the only trophy we coud win, it has to be cliched damage limitation, then concentrate on the league. May as well give game time to reserves: Given, Herd, Bennett, Baker, Vlaar, Delph, Westwood, Nzogbia, Bannan, Gabby, Benteke.
-
2-0 to them, boooo
-
Tight game with them winning on penalties. It will be very interesting to see what team we put out, I don't think it'll be a repeat of the Houllier fiasco.
-
A slaughter. Let's hope it's all over by half time or they may beat us by a record score. We'll be as helpless as SHA vs Barnsley.
-
3-0. Balotelli hattrick.
-
0-3
Feckin come on lads and lasses. We will do this lot.
Benteke 2 Bent 1
Happy Days.
-
A trophy-less season for us it seems.
-
I've never assumed we are going to lose any game before it has even kicked off and I'm not about to start now.
Sod it.
2-1 to the Villa.
Come on you Lions !
-
Next.
-
A trophy-less season for us it seems.
The same as every season.
-
Difficult choice for gk. Drop/rest Guzan? Potentially Given drops a clanger then where are we? Two goalies with no confidence...
Nevertheless, I am going for a two nil win; Gabby & Bowery (from the bench).
-
We need to do what we did well against Newcastle, Swansea and the 1st half yesterday and thats press the opposition midfield when they have the ball.
-
It's our fecking cup.
3-0 Villa.
-
4 - 1 Concentrate on the league etc
-
James Milner didn't even make the City bench today. No doubt he'll start and score against us on Tuesday
3-1 City
-
We'll win on penalties, Barry (Gareth) will deliberately miss his spot kick, Barry (Bannan) will smash his right in the corner - it will be glorious. We'll get Coventry in the next round.
-
4 - 1 Concentrate on the league etc
I agree, they dont want Man U getting away from them. 4-1 to us will do nicely.
-
I don't know how many they'll get but after the second half yesterday we'll be lucky to get nil
-
We have much more chance of beating them now rather than the semi or final however.....
-
Not uncommon for odd results at this stage of the League Cup.
Match postponed - snow.
-
9-3 to us.
-
3-1 to them
Looking at who did not start for them yesterday is scary :
Richards (might be injured ?)
Maicon
Kolarov
Toure K
Barry
Milner
Nasri
Rodwell
Tevez
Balotelli
-
4-2.
Liam and Noel, two each.
Roll With It.
Some might say that's unlikely.

Oh, stop crying your heart out.

I'm going to try to pretend this match isnt happening and stumble across the scoreline on SSN after the final whistle...hopefully I will be pleasantly surprised that not only did we have a game but we beat Citeh at the Etihad! Who am I kidding...I'll be listening to us putting in a battling performance but ultimately on the wrong end of one sided looking scoreline on WM.
-
I'm hoping they think they can roll us with the 'c' team, we might have a chance then. Hopefully we will be allowed to play a bit too.
Probably going to regret this, but I've gone for a Villa win AET!
-
Man City's predicted line up
Pantilimon
Richards, Kolo Toure, Nastasic, Kolarov
Milner, Razak, Rodwell, Sinclair
Tevez, Guidetti
Gulp!
-
3-0 Balotelli hat trick.
-
It'll be a close call, but I think we'll lose this one 500-nil.
-
I fear they will rip us a new arse :( - 3-0 to them
-
got a mate who is on the staff at maine road and he assures me they are playing their under 12's. still going for narrow 4 - 0 defeat though!
-
As was pointed out after the Swansea game, we are Aston Villa and the chances are that Southampton will turn us over.
Well, we are still the Villa. 3-1 to us.
-
Went for a Villa win in normal time. Don't know why, but I've had a good feeling about this since the draw came out.
1-2. Vlaar early from a set piece, then Gabby catches them on the break. They get one back making for a nail biting ending, but we hold out.
-

Well, we are still the Villa. 3-1 to us.
Man City have not won in 4 games.I think we all know the script by now.

Yep,and they must be thrilled they've got us next
-
Going 3-1 to city
-
4-0 home win
-
Milner's got a toe injury apparently and won't be available
-
William Hill are only offering 16/1 on a Balotelli hattrick.
-
3-1 to them

Maicon

Balotelli
Bloody hell, that shows their confidence - They're gonna play us without a keeper !
-
I think both Maicon and Milner are injured and won't play
-
I'm going into this game with a different frame of mind. I am expecting the worst so, when the inevitable 3 goals against are administered I wont be that surprised or downhearted.
-
The way we are a the moment I'd dare anybody to predict with any confidence how we might play, having said all that: City 2- Us 0
-
City 3 Villa 1
:(
-
Tough decision for Lambert tomorrow in regards to what team he puts out. With our next game being on Sunday, I think we go there with a fairly strong side, but also use it as an opportunity to give one or two a start. I would go with a team looking something like:
Given
Lowton Vlaar Baker Bennett
Holman El Ahmadi Delph N'Zogbia
Gabby Bent
Would be very nice to get a result and go through, but a good performance is important after the debacle on Saturday.
-
They'll hammer us. 4 or 5 nil.
-
They'll hammer us. 4 or 5 nil.
Des, get a grip for fecksake. It's ours. 3-0 Villa.
-
I Haveno idea why but I reckon we will get something, over 90 mins anyway. 1-1 or 1-2.
Best go lay down now...
-
Did we sell our allocation?
-
Did we sell our allocation?
I doubt it. Maybe 2000 Villa will make the trip in a crowd of 31000-33000.
-
Charlie needs to start in the hole, as I think he will be stepping in for Ireland.
-
We'll lose, heavily. Oh and I'm going as well and have agreed with my mate we will be leaving early if it gets to 3-0 as I won't have had time to administer the usual 7 pints required to get me through the usual appalling performance we put up at this place. sigh....
-
We'll get mullered. It will rain. I'll be in the City end. Grumpy. Probably 4-1, 5-1 to them
That's enough positivity from me for one evening!
-
We've never done very well up there since they've moved (one win in 10 years?). I hate Man city.
-
Did we sell our allocation?
I doubt it. Maybe 2000 Villa will make the trip in a crowd of 31000-33000.
I heard the other day that we'd only sold about 400, although not at all sure if that was correct. Expect we've sold more since.
-
So all faith is lost then ?
We will win.
-
Just hope we seriously give it a go and they make us proud of their efforts , play with pride !
-
It will be a test of Lambert's statement that we'll go out to win every game.
-
We will win this one and Sundays game against the Oldbion.
-
Does anyone know if I'd be able to get a ticket in the away end at this short notice?
I work in Manchester you see so couldn't get a ticket from Villa Park, any advice appreciated :)

Check your PMs.
-
Has Randolph laid on free coaches? Might up the numbers a bit.
Narrow win for the "Citizens".
-
I hate that place, we don't even lose gracefully up there, its just a twatting every time. Off the top of my head since they moved to whatever that ground is now called i'm sure, apart from that time we did them 0-2, that every other time they've scored atleast 3 times, i'd luv to beat the horrible twats!
-
We will win.
-
A win would be nice but lets face it the best we can hope for is to keep it down to something respectable and no injuries.
-
From the Birmingham Mail
PAUL Lambert has promised Villa will be “up for it” at Manchester City tonight after pledging to name a strong team capable of progressing in the Capital One Cup.
Stephen Ireland will not play against his former club at the Etihad Stadium after injuring his arm last weekend, while Ashley Westwood and Jordan Bowery are cup-tied.
But Lambert insists the line-up he selects for this evening’s third round tie will be competitive enough to challenge Roberto Mancini’s multi-million pound players.
Lambert will tell his unfancied team they have nothing to lose against the Premier League champions as they try to bounce back from their 4-1 defeat at Southampton.
Mancini is expected to make wholesale changes from Sunday’s 1-1 home draw against Arsenal in order to prioritise their top flight and Champions League campaigns.
“Nobody will expect anything from us, other than ourselves, but you go up there and you go and try and win,” said Lambert.
“I’m not going to change my ideas.
“We’re going to go and try and win against one of the best teams in Europe regardless of what personnel they have out.
-
Charlie needs to start in the hole, as I think he will be stepping in for Ireland.
You would have thought Ireland would have been sent for an X Ray on the Saturday but its unclear whether the club has taken this action yet two days later.
A little strange dont you think?
-
A good trouncing here, God knows by what, at least 3 or 4 goals. I just don't trust the character of this team yet, this will take time for Lambert to instill and get rid of the jitters when we go behind in games. They will be still rattled and nervy from Saturday.
-
Charlie needs to start in the hole, as I think he will be stepping in for Ireland.
Can I cover him and the hole up .
-
As long as we don't go up there and roll over before a ball is kicked like we did under Houllier then I won't complain. It's not completely out of the question for us to win I suppose, but i won't be putting any money on us either.
-
My youngest son is going to this with his best friend! I just hope the lads at least put on a performance!
-
Can't see us getting near them tonight.
-

I agree.
Even if we just try to win, it'll be an improvement on the humiliating farce of last year.
-
3-0 to them
-
Apparently Tevez & Ballotelli will start, Great
-
Looks like Balotelli may start for them.Let's hope he's in an 'I can't be arsed' mood
-
Ballotelli normally scores against us so i hope he's not playing. It's going to be tough but i've got a feeling we're going to play quite well and give them a game.
-
Fucking hell, when you play a second string team, and that means Balotelli and Tevez....fucking hell.
-
I think someone mentioned before showing them videos of 94 and 96. Big Ron out-manoeuvred fergie in 94 against the odds. They should definitely have this match on the bus on the trip up to gorton.
-
------------Guzan
Lowton-Vlaar-Baker-Bennett
-------Westwood-KEA
Weimann-N'Zogbia-Gabby
----------Benteke
Weimann deserves to play, Gabby and N'Zogbia have things to prove. Clark I can't decide yet, but I do like Baker and Bent well I'd sell at first opportunity.
-
I think someone mentioned before showing them videos of 94 and 96. Big Ron out-manoeuvred fergie in 94 against the odds. They should definitely have this match on the bus on the trip up to gorton.
The difference is that team contained truly great players like Saunders, Atkinson, Staunton, Townsend and McGrath, who were on a par with their Man United counterparts.
-

Yeah, but as if they'd actually pay any attention.
They'd all be sat there with their oversized Beats with Dr Dre headphones on, listening to Usher, staring out of the window, thinking about cars and slappers.
-
I'd go......
Guzan
Lowton Vlaar Clark Lichaj
Carruthers Bannan KEA Holman
Weimann Bent
-
I'd be tempted to start with
Given - Guzan
Lowton - Vlaar - Clark - Dunne - Baker - McGrath - Lichaj - Bennett
Bannan - Carruthers - KEA - Holman - Westwood - Herd - Delph - N'Zogbia
Weimann - Bent - Gabby - Bowery - Benteke
and I still don't think it'd be enough
*wink*

McGrath was truly great, in fact better, Atkinson when he could be arsed was a good player but Staunton? Truly great, are you sure?

Defence will get over run paulie, i'd stick Delph at left-left-left back and play Gabby as left-left-left wing.

During his first spell you'd have struggled to find a better left back in the Premiership.

Good point.
Might also be worth sticking Hutton in midfield, too. At least we'd have something to laugh about.
-
That's a ridiculous team Paulie. You've left out Albrighton.
-

Mmmmmm slappers...
-
Guzan, Lowton, Vlaar, Clark, Bennett, Holman, Delph, El Ahmadi, Agbonlahor, Bent, Benteke.
Might get overrun in midfield but not much option, as Bannan needs dropping (and wouldn't stop us getting overrun anyway) and Ireland is injured.
3-1 Man City i'm afraid.
-
You're right of course. I'm clutching at straws!
Ya gotta believe though....
-
I think the team he will pick will be:
Given
Lichaj Vlaar Baker Bennett
Herd
Delph Bannan
N'Zogbia
Weimann Agbonlahor
Circle the wagons.
-

I did consider that but he's a sending off waiting to happen so would only weaken the side. Bit risky only playing two keepers don't you think?
-
Can you just turn up and pay for official travel coach?
-
I'm a glutton for punishment....so if anyone knows what has happened to Villastreams or knows of another reliable stream then please PM me.

-
I think we'll win 2-1 with goals from Gabby and Bannan, so there.
-
My youngest son is going to this with his best friend! I just hope the lads at least put on a performance!
Well make sure you have a word and insist they do
-
Given
Lichaj. Baker. Vlaar. Bennett

Only truly great player from those 5 was McGrath.
-
We don't stand a chance, they'll easily beat us by at least 3 goals
-
Dee hammer.. What a shit attitude. Shall we not bother going up and blame the weather. 50 lads in Scruffy Murphys think let's go up and attack..
-
I'd go
Guzan
Lowton Vlaar Clark Bennett
Holman KEA Delph Bannan
Bent Benteke
Subs Gabby Nzogbia Herd Baker Weimann Given Lichaj
I'll say one nil Villa Delph.
-
50 lads in Scruffy Murphys think let's go up and attack..
We might have got away with paulie's formation but they'll spot an extra 50 on the pitch unless they run around a lot.
-
Even with a completely different XI to the team that played Arsenal I think City will have too much but I expect us to give it a right good go, 2-1 City.
-
I really hope we shake off whatever it was that caused us to give up on Saturday. We looked really fragile.
Pull yourselves together lads, give 100% for the full ninety ( as you should every game this season) and whatever the result we will back you.
If its 2-0 do your best to keep playing so it doesn't get worse.
I fear even so..City by three.
Prove me wrong.
-
yes saturdays result and moreso the performance put a massive dent in my confidence, i probably thought we were a bit further on than that result showed, obviously not, so i can only expect a loss tonight,
but as others have said, we do need a better performance, hopefully getting back to the passing game that was getting us somewhere i thought, and 100% effort from all the team
it will be difficult to know what sort of team PL picks, whether he makes changes to give squad players a go or if they are in because of last sats performance
-
also i wouldnt be supprised to see Given in tonight,
Guzan is rightly the no 1 at the moment and traditionaly these league cup games are the ones you give a game to the no 2, Given is a good keeper so i would have no problem with that if he does pick him
-

It's maybe a question of semantics, but McGrath was in a class of his own in terms of modern Villa players. I'd call him legendary, or world class. And yes, I thought Staunton was a great player for us, we certainly haven't had a better left back since.
-
Citeh win after spirited Villa go down to Tevez and Balotelli...
or 4 nil to the Villa.

Staunton just used to get on my nerves, one of the things that wound me up was his corners, trying to score seemingly every time. Saw his brother play a trial match for the reserves, I assume it was a favour called in because he was useless.
In summary, don't like Staunton but he's better than his brother.

Staunton was a very good full back for us but certainly I wouldn't class him as a villa great.

Oh well, you're just wrong, but never mind.

I wonder if joe_c has gone to the match today.
If he has, he's got to be our lucky charm.
His record on watching us in Manchester?
0/10
Surely that can't go on?

Anybody got any solid team news yet ?

I saw the 1-1 at Old Trafford, and the 3-1 win against City when Hendrie scored, but other than that I've probably seen a good dozen defeats in Manchester. Good beer before and after mind.

Well. the weather's a great leveller ... so only 2-0 to the home side?
-
Still think we will win this.

Still think we will win this.
8-1 on an away win, lump on then son!
-
2-0 City
-
More chance of them getting into double figures than us getting anything from this. Even still, I think we will keep it down to 4 or 5 if we are lucky and play to the best of our limited abilities.
4-0 to them with a hat trick for either Balotelli or Tevez.

Are the highlights of the League Cup games tonight on telly anywhere?
Usually on the Wednesday night as long as there are no Thursday games.
-
Good line up- nice to see shay back in goal for this game, should get plenty of practise tonight.
Attacking too with gabby ,Weimann and benteke.
: Villa: Given,Lowton, Vlaar, Clark, Bennett, El Ahmadi, Delph, N'Zogbia, Agbonlahor, Benteke, Weimann,
: Villa subs: Guzan, Baker, Bent, Albrighton, Lichaj, Herd, Bannan
-
What is the team news for either side?
-
Subs: Guzan, Baker, Bent, Albrighton, Lichaj, Herd, Bannan.
-
Doesn't look a bad side to be fair, just think they have far to much quality in their reserve side,Balotelli and Tevez upfront
-
MAN CITY: Pantilimon, Nastasic, Toure, Rodwell, Milner, Barry, Kolarov, Razak, Tevez, Suarez, Balotelli
-
MAN CITY: Pantilimon, Nastasic, Toure, Rodwell, Milner, Barry, Kolarov, Razak, Tevez, Suarez, Balotelli
Ouch- far stronger than I expected.
One thing for sure there will be goals with those line ups . I believe the game is on 5 live xtra tonight.

Still think we will win this.
8-1 on an away win, lump on then son!
15 euros on it mate.

I'd have picked Holman over N'Zogbia personally but otherwise a fair enough line up.
-
MAN CITY: Pantilimon, Nastasic, Toure, Rodwell, Milner, Barry, Kolarov, Razak, Tevez, Suarez, Balotelli

Are the highlights of the League Cup games tonight on telly anywhere?
Usually on the Wednesday night as long as there are no Thursday games.
It's on BBC One on Wednesday at 23:15.
As previously mentioned it's live on 5 Live Extra (http://www.bbc.co.uk/5livesportsextra/). I'm not sure if that'll work for those of you outside the UK but it's also on AVTV (subscription may be required). It doesn't appear to be being televised live anywhere so I doubt there's any point looking for streams.
