Surprised there's no thread for this yet.
Afghanistan have started ok chasing India's 160 target. Can't see it lasting but hope they at least make a game of it.
I reckon Sri Lanka'll win it.
-
Makes sense to have this. Afghanistan look like a very decent side to me, some good bowlers and some good batting. I hope we are fully on the ball against them, our preparation has gone well but they look a real threat.
-
On an aside terrible attendance.
-
Why's he not allowed a runner? Ludicrous ruling. He could do permanent damage.
-
Yep ridiculous. I repeat though the Afghans look a good side, and we'll need to be at our best to win.
-
On an aside terrible attendance.
Their version of T20 was played in front of about 30 people, and that was the final.
-
I know it is not fashionable to talk England up, but I think we will be hard to beat at this tournament. We have a line up of batsmen who can hit boundaries and a good bowling attack with a bit of variety.
-
Any links to fixtures with UK times ?
-
They tend to be 11.30 am or 2.30 pm. England's games are tomorrow and Sunday at 2.30 I believe.
-
Any links to fixtures with UK times ?
Cricinfo shows England match tomorrow 3 pm UK time
-
Not looking like Zimbabwe will be able to push South Africa at all.

Zimbabwe were desperately poor.
-
Zimbabwe were desperately poor.
Agreed with Dominic Cork and Rob Croft in the studio when they said that Zimbabwe's automatic place in competitions needs to end. They are not as good as some of the teams that are not making the tournaments.
-
Automatic places should only be given to the top 8 in the World rankings.
Australia are ranked 9.
-
Unbelievable 100 from McCullum.
-
-
Thus far this tournament has been pretty poor, some individual performances apart. The crowds have been terrible and the games have been massively one sided. The only game that got a bit interesting was India vs Afghanistan. Now I hope we hammer Afghanistan, but it would be nice to see some contests.
-
We're batting first.
-
Cant believe they have picked Patel over Briggs............
-
Sounds from the pundits like Broad has got his pace back which is good.
-
Hmmm not a great start from us.
-
Make that a shocking start, wicket maiden.
-
Top bowling by Afghanistan, we look dodgy thus far and need to get in the game.
-
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I hope they prove me wrong but I don't rate Hales and Wright.
-
Id take Wright over Bopara every day.......
-
Doesn't mean he's any good though.
-
I agree but being totally biased I would pick Woakes or Barker
-
This is better, come on lads.
-
Much much better.............
-
Neither of these appear to be able to play spin.
-
80% of the England team cannot play spin
-
that was very unlucky............
-
People will have their opinions, but Pietersen at 3 would make a huge difference to the quality of our side. Hales gone, probably better to have Morgan in to be honest.
-
There is no arguement that KP as a player would hugely improve this team but its KP as a person that there are issues with........
-
Luke Wright has to push on now and end up 80/90 not out............
-
He's doing well actually, this pitch looks tricky.
-
Huge over.
-
Not Morgan's best innings, but reasonable none the less.
-
There fielding has been very poor
-
Useful cameo from Buttler.
-
What a great first shot from Bairstow!
-
Wallopppppp
-
Bloody hell Wright is pummeling it now.
-
come on Luke........us the force
-
Shame for Wright he didn't get 100, but did really well and proved me wrong and I'm glad.
-
very unlucky but a great knock
-
Decent score thanks to the penultimate over.
-
I'd say it's a bit over decent to be fair.
-
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I hope they prove me wrong but I don't rate Hales and Wright.
Brilliant!
Now which bowlers don't you rate? Guaranteed wickets.
-

Indeed! I don't rate Samit as a bowler, so a double hat trick will follow shortly.
-
Finn bowling too much down legside, it's not going to matter here but he needs to get his accuracy up.
-
This is very impressive, we have been very sharp.
-
Broad's pace is definitely back up again.
-
What's the lowest score ever in international T20's?
-
No idea but this'll potentially push it.
-
To answer my own question it's 67 by Kenya against Ireland.
-
Well that's certainly on. We've been very very good and like the last Twenty20 I think a lot of bookies and cricket 'experts' have massively underestimated us. We have some very fine bowling options, are excellent in the field and we have lots of batsmen who can clear the ropes.
-
This is as comprehensive a battering as I've ever seen.

agree with all of that but our weakness is against spin
-
This is a little silly now.
-
Well I think England have been superb all round and the Afghans poor. Consider how they did against India, possibly says something about India's bowling attack.
-
This is a little silly now.
You beat what's put in front of you, a thoroughly professional drubbing of the minnows, something England have often failed to do having been beaten by the likes of Holland and Ireland in recent competitions.

Indeed and like I said there's a comparison here with how India got on against the Afghans. So England have been excellent in my opinion, very impressive and teams will be worried about us now if they weren't before.
-
We have taken our foot off the gas here..........we should have got them out for under 50
-
What is Hussain doing with the post match interview?! surely go to the translator after each question!
-
Overall excellent from England, very pleased with that.
-
top of the table, until Sunday probably
-
Good start from Finn this.
-
Finn has to stop hitting the stumps, the pundits seem to laugh at this problem but it could be costly.
-
That's better.
-
Kohli is an excellent player and we need to get rid of him quick.
-
Bresnan has lost something since his elbow injury.
-
Swann bowling well, gets Kohli.
-
Fielding has dropped off, poor.
-
If we can stop a run bonanza in the last 4 then this has been a good bowling effort.
-
I worry about Bresnan at the end.
-
Not good from Broad here, I worry for us against the spin.
-
It is not really spinning though is it. Outfield starting to dew up. We should be fine as long as they dont go bonkers at the end.
-

It's not so much the spin, it's clearing the ropes and pace on the ball. Bresnan recovered that over well, but he doesn't really warrant a place in the side at the moment in my opinion.
-
This last over is going to be a disaster, terrible bowling and fielding.
-
Although great effort from Buttler and Hales to get rid of Dhoni.
-
All depends on our start with the bat. Rain around means we need to start well.
-
looks about 20 too many and for me we have to play 2 spinners in every game also Finn and Broad should bowl the final overs
-
Giving away wides and no balls is really poor, top level bowlers should be avoiding that.
-
Kieswetter needs to work out ways to rotate the strike.
-
I don't like this opening pair, I really don't think much of Hales.
-
I do think Kies is a good player though, he just needs to sort out some slightly more delicate shots.
-
Morgan gone and he looked all over the place to be honest, very poor.
-
Well this is absolutely horrendous and idiotic batting, spin what a surprise.
-
This is fucking embarrassing, awful awful batting. Come back KP please.
-
Move your feet and stop fucking sweeping, Christ.
-
This is one of the most pathetically unprofessional performances I've ever seen.
-
We never learn we just consistently don't improve our play of spin, it's completely amateur and they just repeat the same mistakes. Pathetic.
-
Oh dear
-
This is fucking embarrassing, awful awful batting. Come back KP please.
KP can't bat against spin either.
-

KP can't bat against spin either.
I've seen him bat alright against spin(granted not in UAE), but it was more of a flippant comment. It just annoys me that we don't seem to be learning from our experiences against spin on the sub-continent, we consistently make the same mistakes and it's endemic throughout all formats of the game.
-
I'm not that bothered about this result, we were shite at the start of the last T20 World Cup and won it.
Actually I'm not that bothered about the whole competition, it's not real cricket is it?
-
Now this is an exciting game.
-
Can't understand the rules there. If Sri Lanka were 174 -6 and New Zealand were 174 -7 after 20 overs, then surely Sri Lanka win the game because they lost less wickets and there is no need for a quite absurd "super over"?
-
Was fun though.
If there's a worse commentator in any sport on the planet than Tony Greig it could only happen if someone grafted Alan Parry's head alongside Alan Green's.
-
We are in big, big trouble here........Patel is tossing them up for Gayle to smack them for 6
How Patel gets in this team is beyond me
-
Gayle loves playing against us, Patel is just putting them on a plate for him.
-
Samit bloody Patel is fucking useless.
-
Dropped catch you plonker
-
Dropped catch you plonker
It worked out well as it got Gayle on strike and he pouched it next time..........
-
118-2 on my stream
-
A bit better now...........
-
poor fielding again
-
We have slowed them down a bit, but I think they'll get close to 200
-
Im going 180
-
Looks like it is just me and you spangley, after that last wicket (just after I predicted 200) I think you could be right, I just hope the Windies field like we did.
-
Yup mate......we need to get off to a good start and the Windies strength is in their batting (he says clutching @ straws)
-
Shite last over Dernbach.
-
Im going 180
You called it, let us know your lottery numbers would you?
-
Shite last over Dernbach.
He has been poor for ages Paul......If you can pick his slower ball (which most can) his bowling is cannon fodder
-
Well batsmen owe us a hell of a performance. That score is good, it's not remarkable on that pitch.
-
Im going 180
You called it, let us know your lottery numbers would you?
sure...........
-
Just fucking win England.
-
Morgan owes us a performance.
-
Is the tournament knock out elimination now, or a group style slow death?
-
Morgan owes us a performance.
and your mate Hales.......
-
Is the tournament knock out elimination now, or a group style slow death?
Group style slow death with top 2 thru 2 semi's
-
We played Kies, fucking hell.
-
Very poor
-
Wright gone, fucking hell. Well this is brilliant again.
-
Well we are off to a flier here.....
-
Shambles.......I reckon we should get Colly in as T20 team manager
-
Bairstow showing he can't play spin here.
-
2-2 off 2 overs.
-
The difference between KP at 3 and Wright at 3 is scary.
-
we are in double figures
-
Bairstow does not have a clue against the spinner.
-
Bairstow is eating up deliveries now, he needs to get some boundaries.
-
Finally an over up with the run rate.
-
Bairstow is killing us here, he's got a lot to make up.
-
You need to move your fucking feet Bairstow.
-
Can we retire Bairstow here?
-
Thank fuck he's out.
-
Bowling rubbish, batting rubbish, fielding poor.
-
lol..........good warning from Gayle
-
If Morgan had come in instead of Bairstow we could have stood a chance.
-
Agreed Paul...........to have any hope we need an over where we get 20 from it
-
Bairstow has absolutely killed us in this game, that and an awful start and our bowling.
-
what happened, after I left (doc's appment) we started batting... were we ever in with a shout?
-
We would have been had Morgan come in before Bairstow. He killed our innings by barely scoring at a run every two balls, he flat out has no idea how to play spin and needs some serious coaching. Worryingly Broad said we bowled well, Finn and him did but the rest were awful. Well now it's essentially a knock out tournament, and if we keep getting appalling starts we're gone.

Paul sums it up very well but I would add we have to swop Briggs for the useless Patel and I would swop Bresnan for Dernbach
-
Thanks guys, onwards and upwards
-
Bairstow is a clasic example of why we need to get our players into the IPL and the big bash - we have lots of people who do a good job on english style pitches but have so little experience outside that they are a liability. For all his nonsense this is exactly why I wanted KP to win in the IPL battle, as a country we're a soft touch on the sub-continent and will only improve by playing there.
The major issue is we don't have the same advantage at home because most decent foreigners have played at least some time in county cricket in England, usually fairly recently before they tour here.
We schedule far too many games currently and need to start working out how to get the centrally contracted players some time with their county sides and in other tournaments.
-
It seems to me that we are the only team that is more a less completely incompetent against spin, Australia, NZ and South Africa can cope. They don't play in spinning conditions, why are we so poor? It can't just be the IPL.
-
Its because the pitches over here are not condusive to spin ie low and slow
-

They're not in NZ, Australia or SA either but they do ok. Australia are pummeling India here.

Spin had nothing to do with the defeat against the Windies, we scored plenty against their spinners. It was a fluke defeat caused by losing two wickets in the first over - against pace. The mistake after that was not jiggling the batting order and leaving Morgan out until the next wicket went down.
Morgan needs to be at no lower than 4, preferably 3.
-
England opening the bowling with Danny Briggs. Interesting.
-
Good start.
-
Broad this is poor stop bowling short.
-
Hold it together guys, we should win this.
-
Poor over Briggs.
-
Finn has bowled excellently, but this hitting the stumps thing is getting ridiculous.
-
Terrible end to that over Bresnan.
-
Fucking hell Broad, discipline.
-
Excellent play Hales.
-
I like Kies but he has got to stop eating up deliveries and using up overs.
-
Wright is doing brilliantly here.
-
Good win by England and group is wide open now. However the winner of T20 WC will come from the other group.
-
It was a good win, Luke Wright did excellently and I'm pleased to be proved wrong. I'd keep Kies in the team as he's a better wicketkeeper than Buttler and Bairstow, but I'd be inclined to move him down the order.
-
Why can't Mat Prior get in the 20/20 team ?
he's a better keeper and Can be a heavy scorer in limited over cricket

this
-
NZ vs Windies super over again.
-
Bopara starts, bit of last chance saloon. We have to win or we're out simple.
-
For fucks sake Swann that was a comfortable chance and Dilshan could be gone. Swann always dishes it out when people miss chances off him, but that was a shocker.
-
We need to take wickets here.
-
Dilshan gone, needed that.
-
Poor from Bairstow.
-
At this rate 160 would be about 20 too many.
-
Here's the problem with Patel, he gives away too many boundary balls.
-
What a catch.
-
Swann on a hattrick.
-
Two massive wickets those, I just fear for us against spin regardless.
-
We keep ruining good overs with the last 2 deliveries.
-
Bairstow's wicketkeeping is not up to it.
-
I've said it before and I'll say it again, Patel is fucking useless.
-
Dernbach and Patel are killing us.
-
We're losing it here.
-
169 will require a massive effort specially against their spinners.
-
Bairstow has had an awful World Twenty20.
-
What a fucking shambles.
-
Payback time for Fat Patel I think. He needs to get 30 ball 50.
-
Patel's actually doing a good job here, don't think it'll be enough but still.
-
Morgan out and that's probably the game.
-
Good effort Ravi, waste of space.
-
For all of the praise of potential with Buttler and Bairstow, they have done fuck all this tournament.
-
Come on England 27 from 9
-
Right overall pretty poor throughout the tournament, we beat Afghanistan and NZ(who only beat Bangladesh). The reality is that a middle order of Bairstow and Buttler who can occasionally hit quick runs is not good enough. They may come good one day, but they shouldn't have been the current middle order. In fairness to Patel he batted excellently today, but his bowling was poor as was Dernbach's. We have a number of major issues to address including Broad as captain.
-
were out, but at least we showed that big head Perterson who's the boss !!
you cant play major competitions and expect to win without your best players, its just as simple as that, any problems have to be sorted or just get used to losing

I think they might have realised it, he'll be back very soon.
-
I forgot to add that I've never rated Wright but he did well overall in this tournament and deserves a chance moving forward. Also if Patel can play spinners like he did today, he's worth a shout as a number 7 batsman if he can improve his bowling. He was excellent with the bat today, but his bowling isn't up to it.

If we're being harsh, his fielding is also way off international standard.

There's a press conference tomorrow isn't there? As well as KP, Bell and Prior should have been in that squad.
-
Both South Africa and England out...may be something to do with still playing cricket up to mid September before going to Sri Lanka for T20?
-
Samuels is playing a remarkable innings to get the Windies back in this.
-
fantastic performance in the field by the Windies
-
Great victory celebration by the Windies, my second favourite international team after England.
I quite like their training top too, wouldn't mind a Villa version.
