Available Saturday afternoon.
-
VILLA: Guzan, Lowton, Vlaar [c], Clark, Lichaj, Holman, El Ahmadi, Ireland, Bannan, Weimann, Bent
Subs: Given, Bowery, Agbonlahor, N’Zogbia, Benteke, Westwood, Bennett.
Vlaar Captain!!!
-
And rightly so. Wonder if Bent has relinquished that to Lambert or it has been taken from him, but Vlaar is the clear leader of the group. Maybe a focus on your game and not the team thing for Bent.
Good to play the same side too, it was the right thing to do. Now just perform. And what a strong bench for once!
-
Gutted for Nathan Baker not even on the bench through he played really well in the Cup.
-
Interesting. Just work them in, seems fair. If they didn't know it already, nobody is guaranteed a starting spot: everyone will have to work for their place.
-
Come on you Villa boys, good to see Vlaar as captain.
-
(C)oncrete Ron has arrived. The rightful captain of the side. Bent is a leader in many ways, but this is best for the team.
-
We have a new skipper then I see. Come on then, lets get a win today.
-
(C)oncrete Ron has arrived. The rightful captain of the side. Bent is a leader in many ways, but this is best for the team.
Agreed. This might take a little pressure away from Bent as well, whereas Bigger Ron appears to relish responsibility.
-
Swansea City: Vorm, Rangel, Tate, Williams, Davies, Britton, DeGuzman, Michu, Routledge, Dyer, Graham
Subs: Pablo, Shechter, Moore, Ki, Agustien, Richards, Tremmel
-
With West Ham back in the premier league we now got real competition for last place on MOTD
-
Is Baker injured?
Good idea to retain the same starting line-up. Not entirely convinced by the bench though.
Cap'n Concrete. Good switch.
-
Not sure about Bent being a leader in (m)any ways. Concrete Ron or Al Ahmadi skippering the team feels right.
So, who is missing from the 18? Dunne/Baker/Warnock/Hutton/Albrighton/Delph/Herd...missing a couple of more midfielders I'm sure. Surprised Bowery Ballroom is already in the squad.
-
Come on villa!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Agree about the bench. Let's hope a centre back doesn't get injured!
Also would have thought weimann might have lost out. Good to have competition though
-
If a centre half is injured then Lowton will go in the middle, Bennet go to left-back and Lichaj to right back
-
In a girly strop as want to be at the game but had my appendix out earlier in the week so not possible. Come on Villa - make up for it!
-
In a girly strop as want to be at the game but had my appendix out earlier in the week so not possible. Come on Villa - make up for it!
Get well soon!!
-
Cheers! Three points today will put me well on the mend I'm sure. UTV.
-
a good start
-
Good solid defending from Clark there, nicely done.
-
Second time we have had to attack the Holte End in the first half this season.
-
Oh dear, Weiman! That....could have been better.
-
Great couple of saves from Guzan!
-
Guzan brilliant
-
Swansea are excellent off the ball when they have possession.
-
Gutted so many of you appear to be able to watch this! Was hoping to see this one.
-
Holman has started very well (I was one of thse who thought he did well at Newcastle, too).
GOOOOOAAAAALLLLLL!!! Matt Lowton!!!
-
Get in
-
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
-
well i am watching it now.
AND LOWTON! great timing, lovely strike!
-
What a fucking goal by Matty!!!
-
Get in Matty!!!!!
-
beauty!
-
What a goal! Get in Lowton
-
Did it hit someone on the way through or was the keeper just unsighted?
-
I really don't know what Vorm is doing there! Ball must have moved an awful lot, he just seemed to dive out of the way.
-
No deflection either, must have moved in the air?
-
Yesssss!
Was it deflected - couldn't tell from my stream???
-
We're playing some really nice stuff, enjoyable to watch.
-
Did the keeper dive out the way? Didn't look deflected.
-
Lowton! That was really something :)
-
Fan-fucking-tastic. Keep it up Villa!
-
Very open game though. Will be a few goals here today.
-
Fastastic strike. It should really give the lads a lift.
-
Did it hit someone on the way through or was the keeper just unsighted?
Looks like the swerve of the ball did him. Doesn't look like any kind of deflection
-
Fans in great voice
-
El Ahmadi is having a bit of a 'mare so far, to be honest.
-
Did it hit someone on the way through or was the keeper just unsighted?
Looks like the swerve of the ball did him. Doesn't look like any kind of deflection
Can't tell from the quality of my picture but it moved awfully strange and it went through a melee of players.
-
Looks like a better attendance than Everton
-
Think he was guessing off the boot because there was no sight line... gambled wrong.
-
Really good intensity and movement again.
Passing has been pretty ropey though! Swansea passing it better than us.
Nice to see us looking dangerous though isn't it?
-
looked like the keeper dived past it
-
I agree kea looks we'll off the pace. Bannan has been dodgy too.
-
Good that we are not afraid to pass it though. Mis placing a few is better than just lumping it.
Looking forward to Bennett getting down the left too, Lichaj has been in some good positions today.
-
We are really working hard to close them down in our half. Swansea, you can see are very confident with the ball which comes from playing this system for a good while. We can't let them have too much of it as they will punish us.
-
Needless booking for Ciaran
-
Yellow card for CLark, a bit of a lunge after he'd chased the ball out.
-
You can't lunge in like that Ciaran.
-
Clark gets his weekly booking.
-
Tough, we're finding it very difficult to get hold and keep the ball. Loving the fullbacks though, proper team players the pair of them
-
Guzan commanding again there/
-
I know someone else mentioned it, but it's amazing see how strong our bench is. Fantastic.
-
Given how well we're doing in getting the ball back, it's a shame that Bannan and Ireland are both playing really quite poorly when in posession.
-
No hiding place for anyone that doesn't put in a shift now. The bench has options on it and players hungry to grab their chance.
-
The irony is our 3 best passers seem to be mis hitting every pass.
-
Bummer, can't watch in Turkey but sounds positive
-
I know someone else mentioned it, but it's amazing see how strong our bench is. Fantastic.
I wouldn't go that far. It's encouraging but still contains four young lads who have 20 minutes worth of Premier League experience between them.
-
Concrete in the back of Graham.
-
Just had a look at Wellbeck's dive in the Man Utd game. It's blatant.
-
The Swansea player got hurt there because he bottled it against Ron.
-
The Swansea player got hurt there because he bottled it against Ron.
He has muscles where his arms should be.
-
1-0 up but not playing well. Very poor in midfield thus far and Bent has hardly had a kick. Daft yellow from Clark. His decision making needs to improve. No need to try and win the ball there
-
I think that the pace we're playing at is meaning we're losing it too readily. We need to be able to zip it around more quickly and accurately. Kea is trying to calm things down but the pace is catching him out too. I reckon we need at least two to win this.
-
That is an absolutely tame free kick from Bannan. No danger at all.
-
Great pressing there to negate their counter.
-
God we must be a nightmare to play against. Hunting in packs or what?!
-
Ball to hand I concede
-
Swansea definitely the better team. But our teamwork has been very encouraging.
-
We're fighting for everything
-
God we must be a nightmare to play against. Hunting in packs or what?!
The first thing was to get our lot playing for each other again. Hunting in packs or whatever you want to call it is exactly that. Fight for each other and a lot of things get better.
-
Lee Mason - cock. There endeth the sermon
-
That was never a booking
-
Fuck off is that a booking.
-
Harsh yellow
-
Good effort Andi
-
Best move of the game right there...Superb
-
What a beautiful mood, and great snap shot too. That was stunning football.
-
Great play in the box
-
Fuck off Michu
-
Ooh! Good shot from Weimann, good save from Vorm.
We're not doing badly.
-
We do look a bit short on quality. But good to see this sort of vibrancy in a villa side again
We need Ireland and kea to step up though. Both well under par so far.
Good football that though! Unlucky Weimann!
-
Blimey Arsenal 4-0 in the first half vs Saints
-
I've not seen Benteke play at all, but if he is capable of holding up the ball with his back to goal, then I can see how he would fit into our team very well right now.
-
Positives: Decent pressing. Emphasis on passing. Good atmosphere.
Negatives: Occasionally sloppy passing. Needless bookings.
-

Negatives: Occasionally sloppy passing. Needless bookings.
Work in progress!
-
Got away with one there
-
Lucky there
-
Graham should have scored.
-
We really have to cut out the sloppy passing. It's going to hurt us
-
Could do with half time now
-
It's nice to see centre backs with composure on the ball. Makes a big difference when Vlaar can have it at his feet on the halfway line and assess his options. Ditto Clark.
-
The pressing has been so good.
-
Ok, HT we're leading. Things to improve on however.
-
Pretty decent overall, need to watch the sloppiness and Holman needs to pay attention to his passing.
-
On BBC:
BBC Final Score pundit Matt Holland: "Paul Lambert has brought players in with hunger who are going to battle and believe. It's going to have to work for him, because Aston Villa have got no money."
What bollocks
-

I wouldn't even bother listening to those Southern twats. They know nothing of football outside of zone 2 of London and would rather circlejerk over Spurs and Arsenal than recognize what's going on in across the rest of the country.
On the match though, we've looked good. The only way to beat Swansea is to press them and negate their chances, which we have done very successfully so far. They're also excellent at marking and pressing so its understandable that we're playing some sloppy passes and not keeping possession like we did against West Ham for example. Good stuff overall, more of the same second half.
-
I’m not sure where you can magic improvements from, but if we could improve by about 5% across the park then I think we’d be an awesome team to watch. It’s not beyond Lambert to get that out of the squad over time.
-
Swansea have become one of the better teams in the PL outside of the top 6 clubs. They are a confident team because they play as a unit and in a system they understand. That isn't the same for the majority of teams in this division and if we keep working at it then we'll be better that most. The leap to the next level will take time, commitment and investment.
-
We need to keep at them and start creating a few more chances ourselves. Enjoy the rest of the match, chaps. I have to go to the bloody beach. Look forward to reading your celebratory comments.
-
KEA...hmm, not his best game.
-
KEA can't do that.
-
Thought we were in there
-
Kea really isn't having a good game! What on earth was he doing there?
Ooh. Looking dangerous from corners
-
Vorm really is a very good keeper
-
Where are you watching?
-
Good pressure villa
-
Good pressure now, got to score.
-
Where are you watching?
Villastreams
-
Fuck me how did that not go in.
Second look clear handball on the line
-
OOh! Bollocks, off the line!
-
Where are you watching?
Villastreams
Ssshhhh!
-
I'm not sure that was handball really.
-
Villa, Villa, Villahhhhhhh keepit up guys
-
I never thought I'd say it, but....I think Bent is playing too deep.
-
Where are you watching?
Villastreams
Ssshhhh!
I thought that was ok, because it is a paid site, not one of the illegal free ones
-
So unlucky. Weimann's chance coulda gone in so easily had the Swansea player not held his spot on the line.
-
Here comes Hernandez.. cracking player. Need to keep him quiet.
-
Swansea do play some lovely stuff at times
-
Thick commentator alert: "Alex McLeish was always going to have a hard time, coming from Birmingham." Brace, Brace!
-
Run, Ron, Run!!
-
What a fucking run by Vlaar!
-
brilliant Ron!
-
Where are you watching?
Villastreams
Ssshhhh!
I thought that was ok, because it is a paid site, not one of the illegal free ones
What makes a site that some shyster is making people pay for better than a site where they're not making people pay?
Who do you think the money that VillaStreams charge goes to?
-
Concrete Ron, bloody hell that was one hell of a run!
-
Guzan is beginning to earn himself a bit of a cult following. A bit like Bozzie once had.
-
How did Bent lose that ball so easily
-
Thick commentator alert: "Alex McLeish was always going to have a hard time, coming from Birmingham." Brace, Brace!
Thank God for foreign commentary on "illegal" internet feeds...
-
Weimann unlucky again. Just headed away from him.
-
We deserve a second
-
Was that Holman playing that pass through to Bent, there? Because that was a belter.
-
Thick commentator alert: "Alex McLeish was always going to have a hard time, coming from Birmingham." Brace, Brace!
Thank God for foreign commentary on "illegal" internet feeds...
Internet feeds? Never heard of them.
-
Was that Holman playing that pass through to Bent, there? Because that was a belter.
It was but wasted on the recipient being Bent and not a natural wide player or someone like Gabby
-
Vlaar looks in trouble, which would be a problem.
Bent really isn't a very good footballer (technically) is he? Working hard though. Need to grab a second cos they look dangerous down the wings
Weimann looks like he could score I reckon. Holman seems to offer everything NRC used to, but more quality
-
Bent could end up losing his place, as if he isn't contributing, he isn't doing anything much.
-
Was that Holman playing that pass through to Bent, there? Because that was a belter.
It was but wasted on the recipient being Bent and not a natural wide player or someone like Gabby
Indeed. I don't want to harp on about it, but I can't help but think that Bent would be better off staying as the central target, letting the others take up the wider positions.
-
I wish I knew where I could get to see Villa games, either on TV or online, for a subscription fee. Happy to pay, but buggered if I can find anything here in France.
-
Lovely passing play then.
-
Nice play by Holman there
-
Holman did brilliantly then. Great feet and movement.
-
Ash and the big man coming on
-
Please keep "painting pictures" (copyright Jack Woodenward) for those who us without streams. Thanks.
-
Westwood coming on, I think.
-
Westwood coming on, ace, want to see what he's like.
-
Benteke and Westwood coming on.
-
Love Ron having a word to Dyer there after his dive...
-
Diving twat. Fuck off
-
I thought that was a pen, although it was also a dive, if you know what I mean!
-
That looked like a pen.
-
I would rather see gabby come on
-
Ireland and Andi off
-
We really need number two here.
-
Ireland off. Quite right too, he's been very poor today.
-
Lowton looks the real deal doesn’t he?
What did we pay for him?
-
Benteke time. ;D ;D
-
Luke Moore on for them
-
Weimann has played very well today. Deserved a goal, and was unlucky not to get one. Excited to see Westwood & Benteke.
-
Westwood and Benteke on.
-
Mason really has given us very little today
-
Think Lowton has been really poor defensively in the second half. Interesting that Benteke is getting the call ahead of Gabby. Ireland has been anonymous today
-
I'm not lichaj's vbiggest fan, but he's played very well today
-
He is fucking big isn't he?
-
Holman's a machine. Doesn't stop running.
-
We look really good
-
Much of a reception for Moore?
-
He has a nice touch for a big man
-
I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Benteke and Agbonlahor starting ahead of Bent, really.
-
Would not want to be marking Benteke, to be fair.
-
Good effort Ciaran
-
Benteke looks quite handy!
-
Unlucky Clark
-
Fucking hell Benteke is a big lad.
-
Benteke mixing it.
-
Holman has literally worked his bollocks off
-
Holman is a beast. He works so hard. I know that's the minimum you expect of any player, but he takes it to a new level!
-
Holman has literally worked his bollocks off
Literally? Poor lad!
-
Eke looks like a smooth mover for a big bloke
-
This has got 1-1 written all over it.
-
Really impressed with the shift the whole team has put in. Bit more practice on the quick passing and things could get quite good!
:D
-
Holman has literally worked his bollocks off
I hope not!
-
Benteke. Emile Heskey he ain't.
-
Bent will lose his place if he doesn't buck up
-
Holman has literally worked his bollocks off
I reckon that would literally kill.
-
Benteke looks a player! Loving Lowton, Lichaj too
-
N'Zog for Holman
-
Getting nervous here.
-
Amazing, suddenly our squad looks class :)
-
Holman has literally worked his bollocks off
I reckon that would literally kill.
He's going off to get them sewn back on. Messy job
-
Ha! Just had a weird moment where I had literally forgot CNZ played for us.
-
Holman off? He's knackered, but we're going to miss his drive in the last ten minutes big time. N'Zogbia needs to work hard.
-
Holman off. I think he has been very good indeed again today.
Christ, I'd completely forgotten about N'Zogbia!
-
Great effort put in from Holman.
-
Come on let's get a second, we may need it
-
Stupid foul Eric
-
If people keep misusing the word literally, I'm literally going to kill them!
-
Is that a good idea to take off hardworking, in your face Holman for invisible N'Zogbia?
-
Big cuddle for Holman from Lambert. He respects what he does for the team for sure. I would have bought Gbby on for Bent personally..
-
Was bricking it there
-
And is that the Villa Park crowd I can hear? Nice football AND a good atmosphere?
-
Good effort KEA
-
Oooooh
-
Ah bent
-
Unlucky KEA.
-
Beneteke should have scored
-
great shot KEA. Hoped to see Bent get onto the rebound.
-
Oh Benteke! Nooo!
-
Bentekeeee! :(
-
I really don't know how we're not two up, but we definitely deserve to be.
-
1-0 up and battering them, I'll be gutted if we don't win this.
-
We are murdering them, need the second
-
Ciaran Clarke has literly had Graham in his pocket today. However, I don't understand Barry didn't take the penalty
-
Great vision from Charles there, running into that rapidly shrinking space between three players.
-
Savo-esque stuff from Benteke.
-
1-0 up and battering them, I'll be gutted if we don't win this.
It's nice to see us on the front foot with 5 or so minutes to go isn't it?
-
Ha! Just had a weird moment where I had literally forgot CNZ played for us.
so does he most games
poor miss by Benteke, he has been watching too many Heskey videos on You Tube
-
1-0 up and battering them, I'll be gutted if we don't win this.
It's nice to see us on the front foot with 5 or so minutes to go isn't it?
Certainly is, a refreshing change most certainly.
-
34,005
Never mind. GTC points astray once again
-
that miss is incredible
-
Has Westwood touched the ball yet?
-
Fuck me that was a good Swansea move. Good hands by Brad
-
Missed the first half because I was at the hospital with the other half. She goes in tomorrow to have Risso #3.
-
Fucking hell that was a bit close.
-
BENTEKEEEEEEE
-
GET IN SON!!!!!!!!!
-
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKE!!!!!!
-
FUCK YESSSSSSSS!
-
YEEEEESSSSS!!!! Benteke!!! Well done, big man!!
-
BENTEKEKEKEKEKE!
-
34,005
Never mind. GTC points astray once again
Looked more than that
-
Yeeeeeeessssssss!
-
Aaaaaand breathe!!!!
-
BENTEKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
-
BENTEKKERS!!!!!!!!
-
That was close. Luckily it was Luke Moore at the end of the move
-
Welcome to villa Benteke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Ha ha unlucky Moore!
-
Lovely touch Benteke
-
Yes indeedy. Just saw it before the stream died
-
Benteke-teke-teke-teke-teke.
-
Good times are here, again
-
You know, with Agbonlahor coming back too, Bent really is under some pressure, isn't he?
Good.
-
Benteke! Great control. First goal of what will hopefully be many
-
I'm going to enjoy cutting the grass and the rest of my weekend!!!!!!
-
I think that's called "getting the goal our dominance deserved." When did that happen last?
-
I thought that had goalwritten all overmit for Swansea!
Get in!!
-
Haven't seen villa fans this vocal in a while!!
-
You know, with Agbonlahor coming back too, Bent really is under some pressure, isn't he?
Good.
He's played well today though, I think. Worked his balls off and some very good touches.
-
Bloody hell. Turned it off because it was squeaky bum time and we only went and scored!
What a performance this is. What a manager.
-
This commentator really knows his stuff, better than fucking Sturridge last match
-
Fucking Bradley. Great hands
-
Luke Moore always struck me as totally disinterested to be on the pitch. Thank goodness he doesn't play for us anymore.
-
Given isn't getting his spot back any time soon is he?
-
Missed the first half because I was at the hospital with the other half. She goes in tomorrow to have Risso #3.
Good luck
-
Given isn't getting his spot back any time soon is he?
Nope.
Good luck with everything with the little one Riss
-
2-1 then!!!!!
-
Guzan could end up being Lambert’s best signing I reckon. Great to see him claiming crosses.
-
Blimey Sidwell has scored
-
Missed the first half because I was at the hospital with the other half. She goes in tomorrow to have Risso #3.
Good luck
Seconded! Best of luck
-
N'Zogbia really is mince
-
N'zogbia is still hopeless though.
-
I'd forgotten what its like to watch a normal win by a normal team. Play better football, score first, defend the lead properly, keep playing well while the other team get more exposed, score again, don't shit bricks in the last 10 minutes, job done.
-
Anyone else think bannan has been excellent second half?
-
N'Zogbia really is mince
+1, 'This' etc
-
That was quality from Ron
-
Anyone else think bannan has been excellent second half?
Me.
-
Why on earth did Bent play it back then?
-
Vlaar is so good. I love him.
-
Missed the first half because I was at the hospital with the other half. She goes in tomorrow to have Risso #3.
All the best from everyone at our place, Risso!
-
Enjoy your weekend my darlings. Very, very encouraging indeed. Great win
-
Defending well
-
Missed the first half because I was at the hospital with the other half. She goes in tomorrow to have Risso #3.
Good look have you suggested Ben (short for Benteke) as a possible name?
-
2-1 then!!!!!
Eh? Is it still 2-0?
-
N'Zogbia really is mince
+1, 'This' etc
Literally.
-
YESSSSSS
-
Well, that was most pleasing indeed. I've got this strange feeling after watching a Villa game. It's like, the opposite of feeling miserable and pissed off. Anybody any idea what it is? I'm sure it'll pass!
-
Put on a proper performance and the Villa crowd respond, great to see a buzz back at the Villa for the first time in years
-
Missed the first half because I was at the hospital with the other half. She goes in tomorrow to have Risso #3.
Best of luck mate.
Good timing. Middle name Benteke?
:D
-
Now to enjot the weekend. Fookin' ace. Good luck en ting Risso. You now calling the littl'un Ron?
-
Have to say Lowton looks a future captain to me, great engine, scored a goal, solid at the back, cool, calm and collected. Our squad suddenly looks bloody decent
-
aay yup..bit of a change for once..whass appening? Lambert the Hero!!
-
17 shots, 13 on target apparently, it's suddenly great fun watching us even though we're still very much a work in progress
-
Good result and performance.
Good luck and best wishes to Mr & Mrs Rissbert!!
-
Great win. We have a manager who has the players organised and working hard for each other and fighting to keep their places, something we haven't had for a while.
Up the Villa
-
Unlike a few in L6 - I wasn't going to press the panic button after a stuttering start to the campaign
Yesterday there was a positive feel around Villa Park - on and off the pitch and the lads in claret & blue
delivered.
Putting aside Swansea aren't going to finish top6 up until they came up against us they were unbeaten
and playing extremely well. Brad pulled off a couple of good saves in the first 45 but was rarely called into
action after the break. How pleasing it was to see our lads pressing the opposition all over the park - never
mind Lions were were like a pack of wolves forcing them into errors.
Vlaar as captain - great move and Ronnie is going to be a favourite number 5 if he continues to play this way.
The only minor criticism would be Ireland & Bent but the latter came alive with the introduction of Benteke who
could be a cult hero in the making .............
I don't want to get carried away with optimism but the signs are promising and the fans have an important part
to play in the coming weeks and months as Paul Lambert endeavours to improve our status in the Premier and I for
one am eagerly looking forward to the journey-
