Who do people think? For me has to be Darren Bent. His goal tally will decide our season.
-
If we can get him the service then yeah its got to be Darren Bent for me
-
Bent is the obvious stand out player but I have a feeling based on absolutely nothing but a few ESPN matches that Holman is suited to the English game and will have a great season for us.
-
Has to be Darren. N'zogbia has the potential to be massively influential this season if he can get off to a good start. I appreciate he hasn't had the best of pre-seasons (or last season for that matter) but *cliche warning* class is permanent.
-
KEA looks a touch of class to me and in a position to influence a game
-
KEA.
If he settles quickly, can be very influential in totally changing the way we play.
-
Yes it has to be Bent. Any team with a player getting 20 goals or close to that will nearly always be top half.
-
Concrete Ron could become vital, not just as a player, but as a leader and holte end hero.
-
An interested and on-form Stephen Ireland.
-
Bent obviously but KEA because he will dicate our approach to games. It would be nice to have Makoun available as I think he'd be nice to have next to KEA. They both like to pass and move. It would also be nice to see s full season out of Ireland. He has the ability to make a real difference.
-
Hutton.
-
Bent or Ireland, but I also think Bannan may finally have that breakthrough season many of us have been hoping for.
-
Hopefully any one out of a spine of Given/Guzan, Vlaar, KEA, Ireland and Bent. But if Bent's the one banging in the goals then he'll catch the eye.
-
Bent. Goals win matches and he can score lots of them.
However, if he can be bothered, it should be Ireland as he's probably the most talented player we have be quite a distance.
-
Another one for El Ahmadi. Bent is the player to take us from midtable to top 8, but we can get by without him should Gabby get back to his best.
If El Ahmadi flops (I don't think he will) what are we left with?
-
If Ron Vlaar does not deliver better defencively than Collins we will be in trouble. So Vlaar is key to a good season.
-
Ciaran Clarke.
-
Darren Bent. Scoring more than the opposition is what this season is about.
-
Vlaar. We know how shaky we're going to be at the back and we're desperately going to need him to fulfil his hype if we're going to stay clear of relegation.

We can get by without Darren Bent if Agbonlahor gets back to his best?. Words fail me.
-
Bent. He's going to be key. If he gets the chances, he's the only person I'd put money on getting over double figures for us. In fact, keep him fit and use him right and he'll nab 20+.
We just can't be sure with Gabby. Back to his best he'll get 10-15. Weimann and Fonz I'm not convinced about at all. Both, particularly Andy, have potential.
If we're not to struggle again this season we certainly need goals, so a 20 a season striker will be essential. Bent could be the difference between 8th and 18th.
-
There is a case for most players here. Young players that are now at make or break and older ones that have under performed, for whatever reason.
One real disappointment for me has been N'Zogbia. He will be like the proverbial new signing if he can switch himself on. Unfortunately, I think it is more likely that his attitude will be the end of him at Villa Park.
-

Agreed. When exactly was Gabby's best? he has bright spells every other season. If he wasnt Villa through and through I'd say get rid. But it is all about opinions, I suppose.
For me the most important player will be Vlaar. Success starts from the defence. Over the last 20 years we have had some good defensive units and often conceded fewest goals in the league. I would love us to get back to that again after a poor few seasons.
-
El Ahmadi for me.
-
DB9 our captain and main goal threat
If we can get gabby fit and back to how he was at the start of last season (goals v Blackburn & everton were class) he can be equally as important
-
Bent. An £18m+ striker, we need 15+ Premier League goals from him at a minimum.
-
Expecting big things of Bent this season and I don't appear to be alone. It's about time Ireland and N'Zogbia did something in a Villa shirt as well.
-
Re. Gabby - without his early season form last year we'd have been relegated.
He tailed off midseason but so did everyone apart from Given.
A few years ago we also nearly finished fourth with him carrying the frontline on his own. That was his best.
Gabby is always going to be one of those players who divides opinion, and for some reason evokes extreme reactions. But about 10 months ago his early season form played himself back into the England squad. He withdrew from injury, came back too soon and has been mostly shite ever since. Ireland, N'Zogbia, Albrighton, Dunne - those players have been shite for just as long, if not longer - yet the majority seem optimistic they can get back to their best. Why not Gabby?
-
Ciaran Clarke.
Ditto for me. Think he is going to be vital both defensively and setting up the ball going forward. So Clark for me. Make or break, and I hope we are talking about him as player of the season next summer.
-

He is not a Rooney or Drogba. He is a goal poacher and can only succeed with service. For Bent to score a team must dominate play, something we didn't do last season. Let's hope we can give him the the right support and than I am sure 18+ goals will be delivered.

Not true in fact - to dominate play we may need more from Bent. Bent has previously been at his best on the counter-attack.
-
Warnock
-
For me we need to get our midfield ticking. It's all about the ball, winning it, keeping it and distributing it far better than we did last year. Players such as Ireland, Bannan and Holman will do some of this but not all, El Ahmadi looks to be the player who will win, hold and distribute...he the man, I hope.
-
Darren Bent.
Let's create chances, he will take them.
-
If his Norwich side is anything to go by a Lambert team is more than the sum of its parts. In which case I don't see us having a "most important player" but rather important contributions from many different individuals.
-
Ireland did well last season in difficult circumstances. This system suits him, so if he can keep his head straight, I suspect we might get a big year out of our most technically gifted player.
-
KEA for me
-
KEA and Ireland for me
-
I want it to be Wee Barry, the potential is there we've seen flashes of it, he now needs to do it consistently week in week out.
-
An interested and on-form Stephen Ireland.
Have to agree - any reproduction of his form before he joined us (that says it all doesn't it!) could be difference between scraping by and actually producing consistently good performances.
More goals from midfield and defence please...
-
Gabby. When he's at his best, we're at our best. I'm predicting big things from him this season. BIG things!
-
Holman, Ireland and Bent
Al Ahmadi looks good but not sure.
Ron Vlaar will be tremendous at the back
-
Bent. Keep him fit and its 20 goals guaranteed.
-

I think you're spot on there Chris.
-
First thought was Ireland. Then I thought about it for 10 seconds and it has to be Bent really. If he can avoid too many injury lay-offs then I think based on how we look to be set up and the other players in the team, he might well be good for 20+ goals this season. I think I might be right in saying that we've. It had a 20 league goals a season striker since Peter withe? Yorkie would've come close, but I think bent could well be the man this season, injuries permitting.
-
Bent would normally be the first on this list, however, a new manager's signings can often dictate how successful he'll be and how his tenure will be defined so it has to be one of the new boys for me.
-
We don't have one key man, as the replies so far suggest there's a bunch of players who can be massive for us this season, the more of them that perform the better.
-
I think the spine of the team; Given, Vlaar, Karim and Bent will be much more important collectively than any one individual player.
-
Shay Given - I have a feeling he could be very busy this season
-
If Gabby can find consistency it could be him. His best game is miles better than Bent's, just hasn't done it enough. That said, it all depends on Lambert's opinion, so if I was putting money on it I'd probably go for one of the new boys, Vlaar or KEA.
-
Ireland for creating goals. Bent for stuffing them away. Can't decide.
-
Maybe the 2 signings PL will and has to make before deadline !!!!!
