very good too few of them unfortunately
It was interesting the Newcastle Utd Ipswich game after where the reporter refered to the black players that those wonderful geordie fans were racially chanting at as coloureds. I was 10 then was racism bad in 1984 ?

Yeah it was ,i remember mark walters getting abuse from the holte, the one thing I dont miss from the old days.

really ? bloody hell i only remember getting excited when he picked up the ball on the halfway line

The racist chanting there just shows how far we have come. Did you notice the casual way the reported went from talking about the abusive chanting to the celebration of the goal? 'The jeers soon turned to cheers'.
-
And some fans were worse than that,I remember going to Oldham away in the 5th round of the F.A. Cup,April 1990 with a black lad I knew from my local, walking to the ground he was racially abused (verbally) 3 times,we were to stunned and out numbered to do anything, ive hated Oldham ever since. We lost 3 nil by the way,and boy it was cold on that open terrace...

Remember the scouse fans being the worst for that nonsense,London clubs and albion not being so bad(probaly because they had 3 great black players in the late 70s)

I went to this game, a great day although it was a rare highlight when Villa were well on the downturn from glories in previous seasons; and sadly you could probably count on one hand the times we've beaten them since.

Before the start of that game , didn't a few parachutists land on the pitch ? I remember that one of them almost hit the roof of the small Witton Lane Stand and had to take evasive action by pulling one side of his parachute rope to correct his flight path.

Love the result, kit and giving them a walloping

And the fact that they had Oldham legend Roger Palmer playing for them at that time would have been completely lost on them.
