I only watched the first bit, but it did reinforce my impression that Ken McNaught was very lucky to win the league and European Cup! Every time I see him he seems like a complete donkey. Am I being unfair?

Yes, you are being very unfair about Ken McNaught, though it did take him some time to settle into the club after taking over from Chris Nicholl. Was a good strong centre half

I went to both legs and what an experience it all was. We had to go on the team plane to Simferopol. One bloke travelled overland.

Was you in the picture (the one with the Union Jack in b/w) in the programme for the home leg?

Yes you are Matt, he was an integral part of that side although he did make a slow start when he first arrived. Villa from Luton has quite rightly said that Chris Nichol was a tough act to follow

You can only just see half my head in the picture but there is another one of me buying some food at a stall in the programme. It is at the bottom of the page. I am standing to Chris Harrison's left.
My programme (the white one - there was also a green one) is signed by the team and Tony Barton.

The programme has the following in it:
No wonder that the club is still the best goal scorer with 128 lucky shots netted in 1931, this is the reason for the pet name given by the fans - "The Golden Thrushes".

Kiev had not done their homework on us:
Mortimer, the captain, a perfect forward who excels  in everything he does;
Marley (sp), a skilled half-back.

The notes go on to tell why Ron Saunders left the club.

Matt Collins, Chris Nicholl joined the club in the old third division. Was a great servant and was always going to be a tough act to follow. Ken McNaught had been excellent for Everton v Villa in league cup finals the 1976/77 season, my motm at wembley. He was poor when he first came to Villa, but became a great player and Allan Evans was never the same player without him IMHO

Kenny Mac` was fundemental to the most succesfull Villa side in living memory, he werent no Bobby Moore, but he was totally effective at his job, he did it well, and he`s a Villa legend.
