All I can find from his hat trick against Leeds. I think we went two down and then Beni struck.

I still can't believe he went for that and it went in!

It's a shame Carbone only played for us for half a season. He was a joy to watch at times.
Sadly, his decision to leave a club of our stature for Bradford City showed him up as just another football mercenary.
-
Was it the fact we wouldn't pay his wages that caused him to move.
I remember the Holte End chanting: 'sign him up.'
I don't think we went two down. 0-1, 1-2, 3-2

Great game.

Cracking player.

Last week I watched the sheffield Wednesday season review from 1997/98 (I still don't know why) and their Carbone/Di Canio partnership up front was brilliant. I wish we could have seen much more of Beni at the Villa.

I remember seeing them play up front together for Sheff Weds at Villa Park and they were a very good partnership. From sitting in the upper tier of the Holte, you could see their runs and movement, and they never stopped all game. Carbone played for Villa in the Masters tournament a few years ago and was still quality.

Beni is one of my ultimate "If only" players to appear for us. Wish he'd sign. I remember one of his first games and at the time we'd been a little dull to watch for a period, and a bit ordinary, then suddenly there was Benni taking players on, unleashing a hat load of tricks and just lighting the game up. Him and Merson together were great and the game vs Leeds is still one of my favourite Villa memories. An absolute delight to watch.
Real shame we couldn't snap him up.
Similar feeling with Nilis. I was there when we played Chelsea and it was like our own version of Bergkamp. A new season, fresh underway with such promise for a bit more Nilis magic and then that bastard Richard Wright in the next game wrecked it all!
Then there was a past it Daveed Ginola. We signed him and I hoped we'd see him produce the sort of magic he did a couple of years previously at Spurs. Oh well.
I guess largely at that period, all the wishful thinking stemmed from losing a player as talented as Yorke. We've never had that sort of magical player since who can run a game. Technically brilliant, unpredictable, and gets you goals too.

Agreed, his career nosedived after leaving us aswell, Bradford, Derby then a few lower league Italian teams.
Tuncay reminds me a bit of him, wanted us to sign him a few years ago when we he went to Stoke and he's had a similar nomadic existence since.

A Carbone tpe player is exactly the type we need.

Had a handful of good games for us but went missing most of the time

Seconded.

That's how I remember him.

Indeed.
Although, his debut was simply awesome.
-
I remember him having a cracker against Wimbledon, I remember his debut, don't remember much else.
-
Was it him that should've equalised in the FA Cup final?
-
I think he was a great loan signing. Came in for a short spell, was motivated, had an impact and then moved on. If we'd signed him up long-term it would have only ended in tears - and a lot of money.
