Whilst I appreciate that many people won't have much sympathy for him. I hope he's managed to learn and grow from this and wish him all the best in the future. Good luck Young Lee Hendrie.

It's hard not to think he's putting it on, because the guy is an idiot.

The product of a screwed up Football system and a society obsessed by celebratory and wealth. He's just a victim of it all. But sounds like he'll come out alright in the end.

I know it's not fashionable to say so, but I liked Lee Hendrie. Yes, he did some stupid things, eg at Tamworth, but he always did everything he could for Villa and also scored some great goals. I hope he sorts himself out.

He couldn't do any worse than McLeish could he?

Seriously though, very sad to hear about his suicide attempts. The archetypal young man who had it all. Except for a bit of common sense.

Will always be fond of the eejit though for his form in the late 90's when he broke into the team and then spordically after that.

Yeah, usually around contract negotiation time.

Always loved Lee Hendrie, at an impressionable age he seemed cool. And despite th opinion on here, still like him and feel sorry for him
Good luck to Lee and your family

He may have acted like an imbecile at times and chucked a good deal of money away, but he'll always know that he achieved the feat of being a professional footballer for his home town club.

Lee Hendrie has signed for Tamworth.

He was awful when i saw him play for Daventry against the Boro last season in the FA Cup. Game was just taking place around him and he was struggling to get a touch.

Lee Hendrie has signed for Tamworth.
It was over the bust-up when Hendrie got sent off against Tamworth in a pre-season friendly a few years ago that we stopped lining their pockets with the annual friendly.

Put me down as one who doesn't have much sympathy for him. He was a spiteful arrogant bastard. Gloating about his porsche to non-league players, lighting his cigars with £50 notes out in clubs.

Couldn't happen to a more deserving bellend. If he'd had an ounce of humility, I'd sympathise with him.

I totally agree with you on that one. He was a massively arrogant twat who did not deserve the adoration he got from Villa fans. Grade A twat. Wish him all the best though, now he is "one of us" again.

I know there are a lot of rumours about him being arrogant etc., but the only people I actually know who've met him reckon he's alright, so I can't help but wonder if it's a bit exaggerated.

He used to bring Gareth Barry to a pub I have frequented in Ladywood (his and one of GB's England shirts are framed on the wall), and by all accounts he never used to show off in there.

I met him upstairs in Soba years ago with Vassell, Crouchie and Postma and to be fair he was a top bloke. Brought me and my mate into the group, bought us beers all evening, got us into Bambu and backed us up when we told birds we were youth players.

One of the best nights of my life...!

I like the idea of premier league footballers having been in a pub in Ladywood. Don't recall ever having been in a pub in Ladywood, but do remember going to a party at the Ladywood Social Club [virtually next door to Ladywood cop shop] many moons ago.

Lizz: I can vouch for the West Indian Sunday dinners at the Twin Towers (and the excellent septagenarian DJ). Take Mr Lizz late in the afternoon when the dominoes is in full swing.

GB and Lil Lee used to go in the Welcome, it was Lee's mate's dad's pub (I think) and they used to show Villa away games in there via dodgy satellite.

Ladywood and Newtown are my favourite parts of Brum, salt of the earth Brummies, inner-city Chelmsley.

He came to our school from Washwood Heath in 5th year.

He was an absolutely sound lad, a bit shy if anything, and he's been sound whenever I've bumped into him since.

The "£50 note" bollocks I've heard trotted out for every local football star in the last 30 years, people are as gullable as fuck.

Yes, the £50 note story is a common one, but 'pouring bottles of ridiculously expensive champagne onto the dancefloor' is catching it up.

Urban myths IMO.

I know what you mean Percy.

My mom's family were from Winson Green but got rehoused to Newtown when the old two up two down houses were knocked down so we lived in Newtown for a bit as kids. To this day, my uncle and aunt still socialise in the Ladywood Social Club with their school mates even though they moved out to Barnt Green years ago, and quite a few of the big events in our family have been held there.

I always drive through Ladywood and Newtown on the way to Villa Park and have a soft spot for both.

To be fair I never saw Hitler order troops to invade Poland but it was reported and I believe it. If seeing something is your criteria for believing it you will have a rather narrow view of the world.
Title: Re: Lee Hendrie in today's Sunday Mirror

But Hitler invading Poland wasn't just reported by 'somebody's mate' five years after they reported Franco had invaded Poland, and ten years after they reported Trotsky had invaded Poland.

Also, as far as I know, the vast majority of 'real' people (people you actually knew), were not saying 'well I saw Hitler in that club on Saturday night and he didn't invade Poland. In fact, he was well-behaved and got the beer in'.

I think there's stronger evidence to suggest it happened than the "£50 note" myth.

As has already been shown in the Never Meet Your Hero thread, the ability to kick a football to sufficiently high standard to earn a shed lead of money is no guarantee that said individual won't behave like a knob when interacting with the fans of the club that he plays for.

Neither should we be surprised if another individual with the ability to kick a football to sufficiently high standard to earn a shed lead of money is able to exchange a few pleasantries with the fans.

I don't know which category Hendrie fitted in to, but as with all Villa players, I'm only really bothered about what they do on the pitch.

I heard an interview with Andy Murray on R5 today. He said that tennis players do about 80 press conferences a year, and it's almost inevitable that at some stage you'll say the wrong thing, or it will be misinterpreted [I'm paraphrasing what he said]. Impressions are subject to the environment/context in which they're experienced. I suspect in some cases people meeting footballers in night clubs might just be recalling events with the benefit of beer goggles and to suit their own self-promotion raconteur reputation. Equally, I'm sure some footballers are right knobs.

It's not funny.
I suppose I'll give him the benefit of the doubt as long as he proves he's still good enough to play at this level (doubtful, he struggled at Daventry and Kiddy, although Redditch fans seemed happy enough with him).
We are having the same debates on the Tamworth forum as we have on here when a player splits opinion, there are the usual "If he's wearing the shirt you have to support him" posts, and the follow on "Fuck him after what he did before" posts.

It was Lenin whon ordered the attack on Poland in 1921, partyly as retaliation for Poland's attacks on the Soviet Union previously.

Trotsky however, was a general of one of the Red Army units in Poland.

But what's that got to do with L'il Lee?

Dave, you'll have to read lovejoy's post re: story of Lee lighting cigars with £50 notes being as believable as the fact that Hitler invaded Poland, because both incidents were 'reported'.

The difference being, for me, that one of the incidents was reported mainly by jealous pricks with a grudge.
