Came across this picture which I had not seen before. IMO easily the best photo of how the ground is now.
These days we hate the manager, and hate the dross paraded before us for 90 minutes. I am one of many wondering whether to renew my ST.
But isn't this still just the wonderful place in the whole world ?.
**CLICK ON THE PIC. IT LOOKS BETTER BIGGER **

Let's hope we can be returned to the top ten sometime soon. You're right, VP looks fantastic. We should be very proud of it.
-
Fill in the corners of the North stand and then re-name it, got to be Ron Saunders stand IMO.

Don't fill in anything, just redevelop the north stand to look similar to the Holte but smaller, job sorted.

Aye, she's a sexy beast alright.
-
She's beautiful.

She's beautiful.
Forgetting the Villa connection, it's a great picture showing an inner city area that's greener than many people would think.

More trees in Birmingham than any other city in the UK, fact!
-
An utter travesty that such a place has been home to a hapless rabble for so much of its recent history.
-

Not only is the ground magnificent, it must be the only sporting stadium situated in the old grounds of an equally magnificent Elizabethan stately home. Unique throughout the whole world I would have thought?

Fact ?
How many trees are there then? What counts as tree ? At what point does something become a tree and not just a shrub? Are we talking just the many trees in public spaces of Birmingham or are we including trees in peoples gardens ? Because I lost a tree a couple of years back that had been dying off a while, nobody has been round to count my trees. Unless they are spying on us secretly and counting them.
Do we really have more trees numerically than London ? Per hectare I am sure we do, but in total ?

The Saunders Barton Stand!
I've had this pic for years, it originated from a company that made bespoke blinds! Can you imagine closing your blinds at night to reveal this? Amazing!

Jacobean. Completed 1635. Elizabeth I died in 1603.

I'll be renewing next week. She's being neglected at the minute but she'll be back, and she'll be better and stronger.
-
They should have took the picture on a matchday.

Whenever I drive past on the M6 or A38, I make sure to salute The Hallowed Ground. Agree that the North Stand needs doing to make it complete. It is better located and better looking than any other FAPL stadium. When will the club rise up to realise that potential??!!
-
Ah the big screen on the north stand, how I miss you so.
-
Do not fill in the corners.
Okay so we don't have the unique stands we used to have but I still like look of four separate stands.

Just accept it.

I think you'll find that Sheffield has more..... :-)

Yep the green city.
With Birmingham having the Largest inner city Park in Europe and a much larger land mass area than Sheffield it's likely that Sheff as much as I like the palce can even be seen in the same company on tree count.
-
Our stadium deserves much better than is being currently served up. Will never forget walking up the steps and looking out onto the pitch for the first time.
-
I have that as my wallpaper on my work pc

HDR'd and colour-fixed for anyone that's using it as a background image...

There are more than 200 woods, parks and gardens here (that cover more than 60% of the area of the city) and something like 2.5 million trees. Over a third of the city is in the Peak District National Park.

from birmingham.gov.uk "There is a modern urban myth that Birmingham has more trees than any other European city. Although no survey has been conducted, aerial photographs suggest that this may well be true."

I knew I'd get that wrong! History was never my strong point! Thanks!

Sheffield has 47000 acres (or 190 square kilometers) of green space. Brum has 8000 of parkland of which Sutton covers 2400.
-
Sheffield has too many hills to be considered a proper city.
-
They should have took the picture on a matchday.
That will be like a matchday if he is still here.
-
That's a great picture. I do miss coming up, it's been far too long. I'll look forward to the days I'll bring my son up and get him involved with the Villa.
-

The way things are currently going that will be the scene on a match day!
-
Great that the pic includes Aston Hall - I absolutely love that stroll across Aston Park on matchdays

A little research has proved I got my facts wrong earlier, Birmingham has actually more trees per capita than any other city in Europe.

'You will often hear Brummies quoting the facts that not only does Birmingham have more canals than Venice but that it also has both more parkland and more trees (per person) than any other city in Europe. Birmingham certainly does boast an unusual number of trees'.
See, we boast about this fact.

There's an amazing picture/ piece of artwork of the Villa ground that a guy painted based on ariel photos in Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery - free entrance -worth a look

Seconded. I was hoping it might be possible to buy prints of some of them, but apparently not.
The original is on the wall in the Trinity Road reception, btw.

There is a bloke over here in Lanza who does traditional Canarian pottery. When he is a bit quiet on that front he does mosaics of any football teams badge out of ceramic tiles on a wood backing. Ihave one of our old club badge on the bedroom wall, bloody fantastic.

Look, Sheff has loads of trees, it's just that B'ham has more, live with it. You should be proud of our city's tree count.
-
No, some folk think there are, but there aren't!
-
Do you have a picture of the mosaic Dan?
-
The view from the Sky lounge looking across Aston Park is simply stunning. There is a carpet of trees as you look down, the only things that pierce it are the spires of the Holte Hotel, Aston Hall and Aston church.
It would make a lovely photo.
-
The pic also clearly shows the pre-match spots of Legion and Mr Woodhall
-

Any good to you?

I haven't spoken to a single person whose footballing opinion I actually take seriously that think Wembley should be staging F.A Cup semi-finals instead of our beautiful old girl. I understand that Wembley is costing a fortune and it did inconvenience thousands of scousers this season but come on. They whine about the magic of the F.A Cup disappearing? Giving the semis back would go a long way to restoring some of it.
-
Funnily enough I went to the Spurs game with a Spurs supporting mate - he said that outside + inside its the best stadium he's seen (that includes the new Wembley I think).
-
I love the place. I had the original image as my wallpaper for ages. And whenever I was invited to one of those fantasy league things, my team name was always 'Fairground Attraction' as a nod to its previous incarnation.
-
thanks Risso

Fucking Norwich fans. Support your local team!

With Birmingham having the Largest inner city Park in Europe
I know this gets bandied about but Sutton Park is hardly 'inner city'.
-
It's just that North Stand. If we could just knock it down and rebuild it in the classic Villa style we would have the greatest ground bar none. I saw a picture of Amsterdam Centraal train station the other day and I thought to myself imagine something with that kind of vibe at the Witton End of Villa Park! It wouldn't be cheap but it would be incredible.
http://www.simonho.org/images/photographs_netherlands/Amsterdam_Centraal.jpg
Just to add, I wouldn't want all the steeples as they appear in the Amsterdam photo, but the red brick structure and grand style would be very fitting for Villa Park.
-
I love the place.
Me too. My favourite place on earth, no question.

It's incredible really, I can never tire of seeing it.

Even now at my age and considering how long i've been going, I still get that feeling when I first see VP on match day. I love the place and feel immense pride that it's my home ground.
