How on earth did he manage to do that? 40K-a-week wages! These players aren't in the real world.
-
He was on a lot more than that here.
But its incredible to squander so much money.
-
He must have had some good nights out...
-
What a prick, he strikes me as a bit of a waster to be honest.
-
It is easy to do it if you invested money in say property at the top of market a few years back. He bought a car in VP carpark for £100k cash that was a rented Porsche, a couple of years back. Maybe just a nice bloke who trusted people a bit too much. A financial advisor person once said I can make you a small fortune..It happened but I used to have a big one. Poor old John..he scored a few good 'uns in his day but was a little capricious perhaps.
-
'John Carew, Carew
he's poorer than me and you
he's squandered a bob or two
John Carew, Carew'
:P
-
He's played for some top clubs in quite a long career.
He must be one brainless fool to end up like that.
-
he didn't even drink did he?
My guess is that as someone earlier mentioned he was persuaded to invest in something that was anything but a good investment.
-
I doubt very much he's spent all his money. HMRC often petition for bankruptcy over unpaid tax. As he's moved around a fair bit, his tax affairs could be quite complicated, and if he's disputing an amount, they can look to make him bankrupt, even though he's probably got squillions in the bank.
-
If he's broke then there are some filthy rich lap dancers around somewhere!
-
Sadly when i am forced to watch Britains got talent all i think off is that the jammy bastard was sunk nuts deep in Alicia Dixon
Lets face it most prem footballers if brains were dynamite they would not have enough to blow their designer hats off
-
he can borrow some money from Beye or Heskey If hes in trouble.

Correct - he's alleged to owe a six-figure sum. This was brought about by HMRC who won a High Court ruling. Still doesn't excuse such reckless behaviour. Can't he be arsed to employ a decent Accountant?

Clearly she wasn't cheap to run.
-
He didn't just "make it rain" in the strip-clubs, he must have made it Monsoon

He is only declared bankrupt here, so he probably has cash in many accounts around Europe and in havens. Being declared bankrupt used to be a mark of shame, but it means very little now to those who can show bank balances from accounts in other countries when trying to get loans etc.

Buyin` designer clobber to fit the size of him, no wonder he`s fucking skint !!.
-
People often confuse bankruptcy with having no money; the problem is that the word 'bankrupt' has come to mean broke in common parlance. As has been said the biggest bankrupters are the HMRC and they will force it if they can't get tax out of someone, even if that person in reality could probably pay it in one way or another. There are certain types of bankruptcy one can apply for in order to allow one to manage one's debts more easily.
You cannot declare yourself bankrupt if you're skint anyway as you need to pay about £750 in court costs to do so...
-
Is he still on WHU's books? He's only 32 so I imagine a few years off retiring yet.
-
it is all just accountancy bollocks! he wow be signing on next wik for sure, the lanky streak of piss!
one of the few great players we have had in last 10 years imo. but the reason he played at the villa was because the best of him wasnt able to be reproduced often enough, thus the reason he never played for manure or real!
my opinion obviously!

What are the reasons that they wouldn't have just seized any assets held in the UK to the value of the amount owed?
-
A bit of a miunderstanding by all accounts.
However, his agent Per Flod insisted the player has "lots more money" and blamed the issue on a misunderstanding with the French tax authorities.
"It’s a tax bill from France He needs to pay some tax and it’s being discussed," Flod told the Mirror.
"It’s all because the French government is refusing to communicate through his UK address.
"They have been sending all the correspondence to his address in France, but he no longer lives there.
"He has not refused to pay it. Then they declared him bankrupt and John didn’t even know about it. Now it’s going to be paid
"He has lots more money than this. This is not a big thing.

The tour guide at the Villa said the other day that when Carew was here, he had a bright orange Mustang that he'd had imported especially from the States. I can't remember how much he said it cost all told but it must have been over two hundred grand. And he said Ashley Young had two cars the same, but he used one for weekday driving and one just for the weekends.
Now that's walking-around money. Or in this case, driving-around.

Football, isn't it? Hummers for goal posts.
-

I'm the same with shoes.

Ah, but can you see over your shoes? 'Cos I doubt Ashley Young could see over his steering wheel.
-
Nice man wish him the best. I really enjoyed his time here even though he wasn't big enough to get his head to Young's crosses!
-
I thought for a minute he'd invested in that Michael McIndoe (has he surfaced yet) Ponzi type scheme.

Didn't he used to play for Coventry? Or is he that 'Live at the Apollo' twat?

Only 32? What a waste the last two years of his career have been. Is he still at West Ham, becoming their new Benni McCarthy?
