Available Sunday evening.

And we're safe.
Great, defensive work. Awful everything else.
-
I don't feel like celebrating, as Villa should take it as a given, but we're safe at last (unless Bolton somehow make up 15 goals in one game).
In other news N'zogbia is an oxygen thief and should be shot.
-
Well that's us safe. Sack him now, good defence but that second half was a disgrace. Truly fucking awful.
-
Well, this game really sums up why we are where we are in the league. Although we defended stoutly and with some passion today, there were long periods where we just were not good enough.
Credit to Herd and Clark; well done Lichaj and Cuellar in defence. Credit to Ireland for his first half effort; pity he faded so badly in the second. Well played, Warnock, for the effort down the left.
I thought N’Zog looked low on confidence, out of sorts and poor on decision-making. He has been a real disappointment.
The season’s record is worth repeating.
Re McLeish:
- 2 relegations from three seasons, with a third threatening in four.
- His three outfield-player purchases (including Jenas) have failed to ignite the team.
Re the season:
- Highest number of draws in the division: 33% more than the next team (Sunderland).
- Lowest number of goals-scored in the bottom 6 clubs (and only surpassed by Stoke in the whole division).
- Worst record in the league for losing from winning positions – 20 points lost (equal with Wolves).
- Villa's worst-ever league home record.
- A numbing style of football.
- VP crowds down by 9% (I think) this season.
On this basis, McLeish should leave the club tonight.
-
Holte End in good voice. Sack McLeish m'lord.
-
We are safe. I don't feel much better. The thought of this ass-clown being in charge next year makes me want to cry.
-
I’d have taken the draw before the game, but that was pretty awful in the second half.
-
Well we are safe.
Taxi for Alex.
-
We are safe. I don't feel much better. The thought of this ass-clown being in charge next year makes me want to cry.
If he's not been sacked by June I'll start enquiring about a hitman.
-
Important point but fucking embarrassing play against ten men. Dunne you are a fucking lumbering twat.
-
Holte End in good voice. Sack McLeish m'lord.
My thread went off at the final whistle. Glad to hear it.
-
We are not safe yet, but you'd think QPR wouldn't get anything at City, so hopefully. Let the inquest into this abomination of a season begin.
-
Well my constipation has ended, thanks God!
Just get rid of him now.
-

Plus the most dramatic goal difference swing ever seen.
-

QPR are irrelevannt.
We just need to finish above Bolton, who are 3 points below us, with the same number of games played, but a GD that is worse by 17. We are safe.
-
Sack McLeish M'Lord rings out from the Holte End
-
Time to clear house. Thank god it's over.
-
As we are safe can we now ramp it up against the fucking useless twat of a manager? We must make sure the fool is not incharge next season.
-
I've never seen a more one sided game of 10 men against 11 ever. We were awful.
-

We are all but safe; Bolton will have to score about 15 without reply to outstrip us.
-
We are safe. Mcleish please walk away once dust has settled on this match.
-
What do you think the policy will be with regards to the traditional walk round the pitch?
My feed went pretty instantly to the Man U game, but the stadium was already pretty empty.
-
Oh, and fack off 'arry! 'ard cheddar me old China. 'ow's the old Bull and Bush for the Chump League goin'?
-

Will borrow this...
-
What a prick of a manager. Useless. No adventure at all. Hardly a surprise though, we've had this shite all season. But for the grace of god we'd have been battered today.
Survival assured though. Hopefully we'll sack this baffoon and get someone even half decent next season. Onwards and upwards.
-
Ahh, safety.. albeit the most ugly brand, its a relief.
WE WERE ABSOLUTELY AWFUL AGAINST TEN MEN.
McLeish had no plan, no initiative to adapt to the circumstances. He just put the players out there and figured that was all he could do. Unacceptable display. I can't believe our inability to get a decent build in to the final third. They pressed so high with ten men that a little bit of possession in their end would be a gaurentee, but leave it to Villa to be out-played and out-possessed.
Ship em out, all of em.
-
Given in my view was our player of the season. Once again, a McLeish team improves the reputation of a goalkeeper. That fact alone should be enough to see him hurried out the bloody door.
-
Wonder what the tactics for the Norwich game will be? Keep the score down to 10?
-
It's the fact that he still tries to say he's not defensive after 50minutes of ambition free tripe like that. Felt sorry for Weimann and then Delfouneso, both came on alone up front with about 25yards between them and the midfield most of the time.
-
We are safe.
McLeish Out!!! McLeish Out!!! McLeish Out!!!
-
Sack the muppet - preferably tonight. Won't happen but we can hope.
-
As we are safe can we now ramp it up against the fucking useless twat of a manager? We must make sure the fool is not incharge next season.
SPOT ON
-
did the protest thing take off? in china, they removed the feed at the final whistle? what is the feeling in the ground?
-
Never doubted we'd stay up but bloody hell, that was painful and with QPR scoring I had my first squeaky bum time of the season.
As the players demonstrated in the first half, they're not as bad as our league position shows, shame it took 37 games before we showed some real commitment. We just need somebody to come in and show some leadership, tactics and give this group some confidence, something we've been lacking all season.
We took everything Spurs threw at us second half, it should never have been a penalty, Dunne won the ball and anywhere else on the pitch that wouldn't have been a free kick. Saying that, I don't think we even had a shot on goal second half so we should just be grateful the lads got the point on pure effort alone.
Thank god we're safe as I never expected us to get anything at Norwich and I still expect Wigan to finish above us.
Farewell crap season. Farewell Alex McLeish.
-
If ever a stat summer up mcleish's villa it's the fact that spurs just had 63% possession despite having 10men for a large portion of the game. Absolutely unbelievable
-
My mate who's a yid and in the away end today couldn't believe how shit we were. I did per warn him. The fact that for pretty much half the game against 10men it looked like we were the team with someone sent off. No ambition to win at all. Plus it's only be pure fluke we even scored. I hope to god that the buffoon walks tonight how were safe. (that's what's I'm saving the champagne popping for)
-
Bloody hard work, absolutely knackered after watching that, would have taken a point prior to kick off, but we shouldn't be reduced to this...
-
I hear Stephen Ireland is to give James Morrison his player of the season award.
-
tell you what, i joined the we don't want mcleish page on facebook at the beginning and i have hardly dissed the guy in public voice all season, but the sight of him chewing his gum fergie style when he knew his job was safe, 89th minute at 1-1 is one of the most sickening things i have seen at Aston Villa...and that includes an Ian Rush hat trick on a friday night. Big Eck is a complete tosser.
-
Not for the 1st time did we play relatively well in the 1st half, and then very poor in the 2nd.Failed to hold onto the ball at all in the 2nd, and Dunne ALWAYS has a mistake in him.Given did'nt have a save to make.
McL does need to go, but i'm not comfortable with all the personal abuse. But also Dunne, Collins , Warnock need to go as well.Warnock was terrible in the 2nd half, and Clark and Herd went missing.
We missed Heskey AND Hutton when they went off.
-
Just think chaps. That was the last ever game that Heskey or McLeish will ever have for Villa at Villa Park.
It feels good. Real good.

Can they take N'Zogbia with them?

They can take half the team with them for all I care. ;)
-
does that mean there are going to be loads of good candidates who don't have the backing of the "fans" and then Randy appointing "another" McLeish?
Let's get behind whoever Randy wants in the first place...
-

And Hutton. My biggest concern when he got injured was he'd broken his leg and we'd be stuck with him for another season. Credit where it's due, he does give his best ever game but it's no where near good enough.
-
CAN SOMEBODY STATE WHETHER THE MCLEISH OUT DAY THING WENT AHEAD? I WANT TO KNOW I LIVE IN CHINA - I AM FROM BRUM - AND WANT TO KNOW WHETHER THE SUPPORTERS HAVE HAD THEIR SAY. THANK YOU!

Gives one a warm glow.

Bolton would have to put in one special performance to reign in the GD as well.
-
Well thankfully I think we are safe though we made a complete meal of that game, are we sure they actually sent a Spuds player off and not a Villa one, as we looked like the team with a player down.
I think that says it all about McLeish however, a man up and a goal up and yet the side were set up to play so negatively that we couldn't even get the ball or string a decent attack together.
Overall I've got to say I think the team played well considering the way they were probably told to play, even Heskey and Hutton looked competent when they were on. A lot of effort and commitment put in. Rose deserved to go, that was a proper leg breaking tackle.
Dunne was great for 99% of the game, but as always, made that one crucial balls up and gave away the penalty.
N'Zogbia must be the dumbest footballer I've ever seen, I've seen amoeba with more intelligence than him, without fail almost every time he gets the ball he loses it or gives it away and misses the optimum pass. Get rid in the summer along with McLeish please.
Everyone else played well IMO, Ireland really put a shift in, so did Clark and Herd.
The main thing is why are pretty much safe, for this season....
McLeish Out!
-
Just in the car, did they have a man sent off or us? It was that hard to tell, Cuellar's definately off judging by his reaction after the game and on a personal note i've now gone the whole season without seeing us win, thank fuck its over.
-

Time to start rebuilding. Get rid of all the wasters from the manager down.
God knows who would want the job though, it will take us years to recover and getting the right man is essential. He needs appointing quickly, to assess the squad and find replacements for the dross.
-
Forgot to mention, for the second game running, MOTM was the Villa fans.
Well done all for getting behind the team for 96 minutes.
-
Whatever scenario you come up with we cannot lose a 17 goal difference.
We are safe.
Bolton win 2-0 at Stoke? Maybe.
Villa lose 15-0 at Norwich? I don't think so!
-
Didn't enjoy following that one bit!
I don't like the personal abuse at all, but he really does need to go and we really do need to bring in some decent proven players this summer, in particular in central midfield and on the wing.
Definitely the worst season I can remember. I'm really sick o opposition fans being shocked at quite how bad we are.
Without significant changes I suspect another season like this will follow. And I really can't bear the thought of that.
-

Did AMc get a load of shit at the end of the game?
Sadly he seems like a nice enough bloke but the only way to get him out is to hurl abuse at him and hope the owner reacts as we want him to.
-
Can't help thinking I'm still seeing O'*****'s style of play in this team - all without the confidence. Our attacking was fine, but in fits and starts, all with no real end product. We should not be overrun with 10 men facing us.
Defence was top-class, until Dunne moved into centre, and gave away a penalty. Cuellar MOM for me- absolutely immense.
N'Zogbia- has he been like this all season? Lazy, misplaced passes, often in really good attacking positions, no doubt no supply to any of the strikers.
Ireland - He's trying, and it's not his fault the squad he's in is no longer decent.
Herd and Clark - these are two players we should be building around. Clark should get the credit for the goal. Even Lichaj put in a shift.
Delfouenso - not good enough, sell him on. We shoud not be carrying players anymore. Either you're good enough or you're not. Clearly he isn't. We're not a charity.
Heskey - nver seen him on the wing before, marginally better there than upfront. Still move him on in the summer though.
Injuries: Weimann and Hutton both unlucky.
On the face of it I think McLeish has been hard done by, by his dunderhead players, by our own fans, by his own tactics (whatever they are) and by Lerner and Faulkner. But he knew what he was geting into and had a chance to prove all of us wrong and shape the team into his own. He has failed.
His record here is abysmal on all counts.
I'm not in favour of sacking managers after one season, and I have sat on the fence so far, but clearly McLeish has bottled it on numerous occassions and it has ended up with us staring relegation in the face.
He must go. So must half the squad.
-
Well i thought the red card would even things up but no. Oh well, its over. What a dreadful season that was. Congrats to McLeish on the new record of 4 home wins in one season. It will take some beating.
-
Spot on there, Michel.
-
And the wins were against the mighty Blackburn, fulham, Norwich and Wigan. Oh dizzy heights
-
We're all but safe and not many people predicted we'd get anything from an in form Spurs side so I'm going to leave the post mortem until the end of the season and take comfort from the fact that we are still ever present in the Premier League
It was bad enough watching the game online so heaven knows what it was like at Villa Park but we avoided conceding the late goal for once so I am off out shortly to 'celebrate' us staying up!
-
As much as Eck probably wants to remain a Premier League manager I can't imagine he would put himself through the abuse for the next few months. The light at the end of the tunnel is only getting further and further away for him.
How could you manage a club where the fans are so vehemently against you. It's gotten to the point of personal insults and public defamation. Sheesh, go for your own health McLeish.
-
Anyone stay for the players walk around after? Just wondering what type of reaction they got?
UTV!
-
Thought Ireland had a good game as did Dunne (bar the penalty) couldn't fault them. Thought the team defended really well today. McLeish was unlucky with injuries today which pretty much took care of the sub options. Missed Gabby we really needed his pace today. Spurs are a really good team with so many attacking options I'm grateful for the draw, the sending off and the end of the season.
-
I WANT TO KNOW I LIVE IN CHINA -
我的氣墊船是鰻魚
-
Spot on there, Michel.
Except for judging delfouneso when he's never been given an extended run. He is 21 FFS, why are people so quick to write off youngsters? Give it a rest pal. Messi would have looked bad today playing for us. There was no service whatsoever
-
Anyone stay for the players walk around...?
It lasted 96 minutes but they had a 15 minute break in the middle.
-
The Fonz was a forced substitution, but was berated by Grant the entire time he was in the pitch.
-
Thank goodness we didn't have to go to Carrow Road and dig out a result.
-

The Radio WM interview after the game made it sound like he will be/is planning for next season, which is rather worrying. Hopefully it's just a message to the club saying 'I ain't walking, so you're going to have to push me'.

I would'nt say he got a load of abuse, a few sack McLeish my lord chants and a banner held up a few rows infront of me that said "Its not were you came from, its were your taking us".
-
Finally we are safe but im just numb from it all, Mcleish to go quickly and please Randy make a positive appointment, the club and its supporters are so flat, give us some hope for next season.
-
Spot on there, Michel.
Except for judging delfouneso when he's never been given an extended run. He is 21 FFS, why are people so quick to write off youngsters? Give it a rest pal. Messi would have looked bad today playing for us. There was no service whatsoever
Unfortunately, Matt, he's had plenty of chances to prove himself on various stages (the latest, at Leicester).
He lacks the strength of Heskey, the pace of Gabby and the instinctiveness of Weimann.
All of which makes him a bigger leap of faith than the club are likely to give him.

I recon he'll move to Sunderland for around 2/3 million and do ok but he's never gona make it at Villa and won't become anything world class.

He's got to go. The fans have been shown nothing to suggest that he can manage at this level. The football has been dreadful, even before the injuries. I can't see how him signing a couple of bosmans is all of a sudden going to change his mindset. It isn't. He's negative, that's the way he plays.

The Fonz has never looked the same player since he went off on an England U19 tournament the summer before last. To his credit he played a great ball out wide today, superb vision but he's either lost all confidence or failed to develop. He's our fifth choice striker for a reason.
As for Messi, he doesn't need service, he can do it all alone.
-
Players and managers should be embarrassed after that second half.
Yes we're safe and yes Spurs are better than us but that's no excuse for being comprehensively out passed and dominated by a team playing with 10 men. I don't think we even had a shot at goal in the 45 minutes Spurs had 10 men.
What a pathetic season.

This negativity meant we started the second half camped in our own half, and didn't know what to do when they went down to 10 men. As such, we stayed camped in our own half making out we had gone down to 10 men.
The fact Spuds were playing for a CL spot and couldn't get the best of us today says more about them than us.
-
thank fuck that awful season is over.
last time mcleish, grant, heskey, cuellar will be seen at villa park
all players gave a fair effort today nzogbia is drained of all confidence and needs to give it all he has next pre season and lose a few pounds. im not going to lose total faith in him though as was difficult for all our attacking players this season under mcleish. lichaj was very poor I thought too. Gave the ball away constantly. wouldnt mind if that was warnock's last game either. just a very poor player. karma caught up with hutton in the end. dunne was superb aside from his brainfart in giving away the penalty. for an experienced player to dive in like that in his own box is unforgiveable.
herd gave his all and was pretty spiky in midfield. clark gave his all too. but a midfield of herd and clark is nowhere near good enough either for next season.
for next season the players we need to keep:
given, clark, bent, nzogbia, ireland, gabby, lichaj, gardner, holman,
to be honest on all evidence thus far only clark of our former youth players is good enough to be starting. gabby too just wont work with bent. he has had 2 pretty crap seasons now and maybe time for him to move on. id like to see what a decent manager would do with him but I honestly think a player like scott sinclair or a proper inside forward who can score and create would suit us better.
50/50
dunne, collins, (dont see the point in replacing these with the likes of scott dann but if a good ball playing centre half can be found like williams then replace them) hutton (cant be as bad as this season suggested). weimann (decent squad player maybe but not good enough for a decent Villa side). Baker isnt that young and if we are going for a left sided centre half it should be Clark in my view.
not good enough
bannan, albrighton, delfouneso, warnock, makoun, delph
a new manager will obviously bring in their own style of play. id love to have full backs that were comfortable on the ball. the last couple of years watching the likes of warnock, cuellar, hutton etc have been painful.
given
herd, centre half, clark, new left back
ireland---new centre midfield duo----nzogbia
keane
bent
think someone like joe allen would be a great addition for us in midfield. nzonzi is a beast in midfield and would give us much needed mobility and presence there. though if we had a few quid would be good to get milner back. adam johnson needs regular football too. id like to bring keane back too. think he combined well with the likes of ireland and bent when he was with us. maybe make him captain.
-
That it should come to this - we're saved by a combination of a deflected goal at home against ten men and a last minute West Brom goal at Bolton. Taxi for McLeish
-
Spot on there, Michel.
Except for judging delfouneso when he's never been given an extended run. He is 21 FFS, why are people so quick to write off youngsters?
As I've said, Clark and Herd (both 'youngsters') were both excellent.
Weimann (also a 'youngster') didn't get any service today, yet he has shown more goal instincts so far in the senior squad than Fonz all last season.
Fonz needs to start performing now. He's been young enough to develop into a goal-minded striker, he's been giiven plenty of chances under O'*****. If he can't do that, move him on.
-
I've never seen a more one sided game of 10 men against 11 ever. We were awful.
Spurs were quite good with 10 men against us at VP on Boxing day last season.
Compare it to how utterly clueless we were as soon as we went down to 10 men at home to WBA.
Pathetic manager.
-
Well, this game really sums up why we are where we are in the league.
I find it hard to disagree with that.
-
We are far to negative. The home form speaks for itself. When a point is seen as a victory we are in it deep.
I hate to be personal about the manager but I do think he has to go.
-

I find it hard to disagree with that.
Yes those stats should be sent to the board and that alone should justify his departure.
-
I'm worried by the suggestions on the McLeish thread that he's said he is planning for next year. How can the board keep a manager who has delivered the worst home record in our long and illustrious history?
His record simply speaks for itself.
Bring in a new manager, united the club with its fans and start on the road to recovery.
-
Is there a link to his post-match interview anywhere, I missed it.
I don't know what to think about the boards perspective on the situation with McLeish. On the one hand it'll cost them millions to get rid of him, and on the other they risk utterly alienating the fanbase. Well, 99% of the fanbase, which is enough. The people who go down no matter what will be there whether McLeish is here or not, its the floating fans they've got to worry about.
-
The manager will not resign because he will lose his compensation. However I suggest the owner will relieve him of his duties in a few weeks time when everythings gone quiet.
The other possibility of course is the owner has plans in force to sell the club. In which case AM may still be about for a couple of months.
The worst thing that could happen is nothing happening. No change in any way and that doesnt bear thinking about.
-
All managers say it, O'dreary was saying it after the last game of his final season. Houllier was saying it (I know his heart was a big factor but McCalister was saying it in his absence).
Things change, there's no way McLeish can survive this. The season has been a complete disaster.
-
Well I'd have gladly taken a point before the game and bar a 17 goal difference swing between us and Bolton, as well as QPR beating Man City, we're safe.
Thought we played reasonably well first half and defended resolutely throughout, but second half we were plain awful and lacked any kind of cutting edge. Hate to see us set up with 7 defenders, with 9 men across the 18 yard line and no outlet up front. When he had the chance to change it he brought Collins on for Hutton when I'd have preferred to see Herd drop to RB and Bannan or Carruthers on to have a go at them. Yet again setting up to not lose. Most players battled well but N'Zogbia was less than useless.
Nice to see us support the team during the game then give McLeish 'sack McLeish m'lord' at the end
Worryingly on the way back he said on WM he's looking forward to rebuilding in the summer and that the fans are great! Gave the impression he'll be here next season. The board wouldn't do that...surely? Would they?
-
Two shots all match at home is unforgivable. From the Radio WM interview looks like there will be big changes amongst playing staff but also that AM will be very much involved in that.
Think we'll need to get used to that. Sounds commercial suicide to me from a business perspective.
-
As much as Eck probably wants to remain a Premier League manager I can't imagine he would put himself through the abuse for the next few months. The light at the end of the tunnel is only getting further and further away for him.
How could you manage a club where the fans are so vehemently against you. It's gotten to the point of personal insults and public defamation. Sheesh, go for your own health McLeish.
The Radio WM interview after the game made it sound like he will be/is planning for next season, which is rather worrying. Hopefully it's just a message to the club saying 'I ain't walking, so you're going to have to push me'.
Why would he walk? He knows if he's sacked he gets a substantial payoff.
-
thank fuck that awful season is over.
last time mcleish, grant, heskey, cuellar will be seen at villa park
all players gave a fair effort today nzogbia is drained of all confidence and needs to give it all he has next pre season and lose a few pounds. im not going to lose total faith in him though as was difficult for all our attacking players this season under mcleish. lichaj was very poor I thought too.
Fair comments. But why did you put 4 well-used but seemingly random capital letters in your post? Most people would have gone for the 147 break.
-
Thank goodness for that. Spent the afternoon in spitalfields market in London glued to my my radio. Several arsenal fans spotted my villa t shirt and celebrated with me. So relieved, but awful that it came to this....

The season’s record is worth repeating.
- Villa's worst-ever league home record.
When you consider we've been going for 138 years you really have to take your hat off to the man for achieving this
-
Absolute relief mixed with anger. Not just anger at this season but that 2nd half - it was an absolute scandal and sums up what this abject excuse for a manager has been about. We played almost the entire 45 minutes with an extra man. I can accept us losing the half 1-0, ten men often make up and can do that. But for them to be having most of the game and possession and us not carving out a single opportunity in the 2nd half is criminal and shameful.

Look at it this way without Bent being injured we may not have been in this position. What this season has shown us is that there are too many cracks in the team if big players get injured. If the club do decide to keep McCleish we need buy 3 top quality players and turn 10/17 games into wins which would give us 20 points more not great but a start. Not 100% confident any more that replace a manager of either Lambert or Rodgers would do much better. They only got 6 more points so far this season.
-
Well, this game really sums up why we are where we are in the league.

I thought the red card actually hurt us more as it meant Heskey going off, which took away our pattern of play, such as it was. There were of course huge problems of our own making after that, but it was a turning point.

The last two home games have turned on their head once Heskey has gone off.
That Emile has become our key man says everything.

Unlike a lot of people here my anxiety was too much for me and made myself busy from 2-5pm so I avoided what was happening in our game and in the other two crucial games. After I watched Spurs put in a really good performance at bolton on Wednesday I was happy and sad at the same time because I knew that result really helped us but was kind of nervous about playing them today and thought a draw would be more realistic than a win. During the week I must of told myself over 1000 times "just equal or better what bolton or qpr do and we are safe"... So when I finally decided to tune into sky sports an hour ago (after being told we were winning 1-0 at one point but didn't know what the final score was) I was grimacing as I saw the presenters read out all of todays drama, after I saw us draw there was a big sigh of relief but I was still oblivious to what went on with qpr and bolton. Finding out qpr scored in the last minute nearly put me into an anxiety attack but when seeing bolton had drawed I finally felt at peace, it was an even better feeling knowing bolton choked after going 2-0. Thank God I avoided the events of today as it would have been awful if I followed what was going on especially when qpr got the winner with bolton still winning... I can't even imagine what my anxiety levels would be like, I would be at breaking point lol.

The last few weeks I come to realise McCleish is staying guaranteed else he would of been sack and no statement from the club backing him would have been released. Therefore we need to give McCleish time to get his own squad in and I'm hoping for 3/4 great players such as the Berbatov/Sigurðsson and give him another chance. If he can't manage to attract this kinda quality i think he needs to go but we need to wait and give him the chance.

After the way we've played this season we won't attract any player of note to come to us. McLeish does not deserve another chance. He's had a season littered with truly awful stats, broken "worst ever" records, and if we lose and Bolton win next week, we stay up on goal difference. That is an absolute disgrace for club like us
-
Interesting day. Pleased we're safe but McLeish now needs to be sacked as soon after the end of the season as possible. Todays second half performance must go down as one of the most insipid surrenders McLeish has ever mustered and we've witnessed quite a few this season.
However hats off to the fans today, gave it some good support and well done to the guys and gals in the Lower North who were getting in some good natured banter with the Spurs lot.
I must also say its great to see Rob Yates from Tile Cross back in the Fanzine. His cutting and insightful analysis of the club leads me to ask that he's considered for a permanent column in the Fanzine next season please?

No we don't, because I promise firstly we won't get that kind of talent and secondly he couldn't manage it. His entire managerial career shows he couldn't.

Heskey played well today, give him credit.
We couldn't hold the ball up at all when he went off.
I see this more as a symptom of the play style. It sums up McLeish well that his teams at bules and villa have played better with a useless, unthreatening, but strong and hard-working striker up front. In fact, as the season has gone on he's made us look more and more like blues from last season, it's difficult to slag off individuals because no one is playing terribly, but they're all playing well within themselves in a system that is completely ineffective. We then have 1-2 mistakes at the back and try to put the result down to bad luck.
The guy is totally out of his depth. At halftime I posted that we were at the point where his influence would shine through, we promptly did exactly what I expected and played for the draw, despite being in the lead. This may have been acceptable for a few minutes but when they went down to ten we really needed to show some ability to get on the ball and create chances. The result as is means we're safely in the league next year but McLeish deserves no credit at all for that.

Cuellar just announced that this was his last game at VP.

I'm prepared to accept that managing a football team might be quite difficult, there are a lot of variables that can influence results and performances and I can forgive failure if the job someone has taken on is beyond them.
What I can't excuse is the sort of inept marketing that the club has been coming out with lately. You may as well publish a thank you letter to 'arry for letting us play his mighty spurs. This is symptomatic of the small time mentality that has become prevalent at our beloved club recently and does make me wonder what the hell is going on down there.
It may seem like small potatoes compared with the absolute clusterfuck that has been our season but it's no wonder that the players look as if they are turning out for some sort of amateur outfit when that is how the club is being run from the top.

I spoke about management expectation at Villa before we appointed such a low-ranking coach as McLeish, and I do believe that even though nobody will have been instructed to use language like this, its indicative of how the board is selling the club to the fans of late. We're a plucky medium-sized club that should consider a point at home against the likes of Spurs to be an achievement. Don't go expecting Champions League football any time soon.
-
it's difficult to slag off individuals because no one is playing terribly
I beg to differ............

Cuellar just announced that this was his last game at VP.
Shame, I like Carlos
-
Just home from the game. My lasting memory of an otherwise very unmemorable game is how useless the two McLeish Galacticos Alan Hutton and Charles N'Zogbia are. N'Zogbia is such a chicken shit both on the ball and in the apologies for tackles he puts in he makes Stewart Downing look like Gordon Cowans.
-
Don't blame N'Zogbia as its not his fault, he played great under a manager (Martinez) who believed in him and played him where he would shine, show his talents and allow him to play his natural game. It's kind of hard to shine and show your talents when you have a negative manager who hates any form of creativity not allowing him to play his natural game.
-

I beg to differ. He plays like somebody who is picking up a huge wage packet but is undroppable.
-
Sorry Situation I am afraid I have seen nothing from him this season to indicate anything but selfish, head down dribbling and rash sloppy passes. That is not Alex McLeish, that is Charles N'Zogbia. As somebody on here very pithily observed last week we paid three million for the player and seven million for his ego.
-
N'Zogbia is the most lazy player I've seen at Villa in years. It's a good job he's managed to get a career as a footballer because otherwise, if his work ethic in a Villa shirt is anything to go by, he'd be on the dole.
-
Just back. 130 miles, spent around £100 quid to watch Villa put one shot in for the whole game, and that was probably going wide before Gallas got in the way. Playing against ten men and yet still shitting ourselves going forward in case we conced on the break. N'Zogbia was outrageously poor. The man cannot control the ball and clearly didn't want to play today. One up front against ten men for almost the whole of the second half, yet McLeish isn't a defensive tactician? Yeah right! Also, where are your bollocks? Should have come out and faced the fans like a man. Coward.
Crap game, defended well, other than a stupid Dunne challenge, but then, what did we expect from him? Pleased with a point as my expectations have been lowered so much, even I am beginning to punch the air when we draw. Probably safe now, but never again do I want a season like this. Sack the fucker now!! SHOW SOME BALLS!!
-
Ok guys, if we fired McLeish and got a manager who wants us to play attacking football and plays to win games rather than draw games do you not think we would see a difference in how N'Zogbia plays?
How McLeish sets up the team doesn't allow N'Zogbia to play to his strengths.
Even the noses complained how McLeish hated creative players and wouldn't let them play to their strengths.
-
McLeish might not play to N'Zogbia's creative strengths, but you'd expect a creative player to make the most of the time he's given on the ball. For most of this season, it looks as if N'Zogbia's actually been playing a different sport to his colleagues.
-

I said same thing last season lol. After last season you couldn't even imagine the following season could be any worse... I was wrong it got a lot worse and this season has been a constant nightmare.
-
Probably safe now, but never again do I want a season like this.
If Mcleish stays it wont be like this season again.
It will be like Wolves in the last couple of months.
-
I turned it on halfway through the first half and was pleasantly surprised, then they went down to 10 men and like everyone has said on here, the change in our play was uncanny, we looked like we had the man sent off. We have no idea what to do in the last third of the field, AM please go!
-
N'zgobia would be good under Martinez but it's hard to defend him as I've tried to for most of this season when he peforms as poorly as he did today.
-
no one could complain today about the support,
Villa fans got behind the team even though it was tough going in the second half, i didnt hear one protest or Mcleish out chant untill the final whistle,
i reckon that was pretty good and what was needed

@pdbrown77 is no teenager. I recently unfollwed him becasue he kept banging on about Bomber Brown. A relation I guess.
-
It's difficult to put a positive spin on a home draw against ten men unless you big up the opposition.

Today was just indicative of the whole season - some decent passing in the wrong third, some players putting in a good effort, a flukey goal (but well done Ciaran for actually having a shot at goal) followed by the ridiculous tactics of putting the whole team behind the ball.
I am no expert but even I can see if you sit deep and put everyone in the box, then all that is going to happen is the ball pings back out to the opposition and they get another go, and another, and another.........until they score
We desperately lack leadership, confidence and spirit - and although the players have to take some of the flack for that, it is the manager who needs to motivate and inspire. It's not going to happen with McLeish.
Incidentally, although Heskey clearly can't score- he should be applauded for his play for the last few games - not his fault that when he goes off the manager has no other tactic or way of playing
-
N'zgobia would be good under Martinez but it's hard to defend him as I've tried to for most of this season when he peforms as poorly as he did today.
Zog has got worse as the season's progressed. Today he was dreadful, with awful control and a complete absence of pace.
-

Understandable... I acknowledge N'Zogbia hasn't played well at times this season (even though I think McLeish has had a negative effect on his game) but we all know how good N'Zogbia potentially could be for this team so it'd be dumb to give up in him as I feel with the right manager in charge we could get the best out of him and be a big player for us, he has still got a lot to offer... Unlike McLeish on the other hand whos ceiling is at Blues and thats the furthest he will ever get. Who is more likely to turn it around at Villa, N'Zogbia or McLeish?

Agreed, he reminded me of a poor man's Paul Mortimer today.

Unless McLeish has told N'Zogbia that as soon as he gets the ball he has to close his eyes and run as fast as he can into the biggest group of opposition players he can find, ignoring prime opportunities to pass to his team mates, and then to lose the ball as quickly as possible, i'm not sure how McLeish can be blamed for most of his performances.
I don't doubt that McLeish can stifle a creative talent, but i do doubt that he can give a player the equivalent of a footballing lobotomy that negates any iota of footballing intelligence in a player.
-
I remember the old days when whoever we were playing we'd have a good go kicking towards the Holte, now all I get is eye strain trying to see what's happening down the other end.
How many games this season have we managed less than 3 shots on target I wonder? You'd think we had nine men against their eleven the way we surrendered today.
McLeish's Villa have no endeavour, no cohesion and no leadership, I don't blame anyone that stays away now, I certainly will be.

He (Tony Brown) returned to the UK after the 1981 NASL season, playing once for the West Bromwich Albion reserve side in September 1981.
What are the odds that the Reserve match he played in was v Villa?

Like Robbie Keane never happened. Compare and constrast.

That is simply not good enough; the campaign to get rid of AM must build in earnest now that we are, barring a mathematical miracle or rather a monumental cock-up, safe.
A previous poster has mentioned that Cuellar has announced that that was his last match at Villa Park; can I please ask that Dunne, Collins, Hutton and N'Zogbia, and of course AM, make similar announcements before the evening is out.
It is a good job that the season is four games shorter than it used to be, otherwise we would have been certs for relegation based on present form; just look at the formbook, based upon points gained, over the past nine matches:-
Wigan 17
QPR 15
Bolton 12
Blackburn 9
Villa 5
Wolves 3
-
We are not safe yet, but you'd think QPR wouldn't get anything at City, so hopefully. Let the inquest into this abomination of a season begin.
We are all but safe; Bolton will have to score about 15 without reply to outstrip us.
Steady on we could lose 5-0 against Norwich and Bolton playing their usual carefree Brazil like football whack Stoke 13-0 and QPR beat a very nervous Man City we are down!
-
Just got back.
A point sees us safe. I thought we were playing with 10 men in the second half - we were so impotent that even viagra wouldn't have worked.
The real positives was my sn enjoyed it on his 14th Birthday and the season has nearly ended and we can hope we'l have a new manager soon.
Now to relax with my copy of Heroes and Villains - I may even subscribe if it amuses me!
-
I hate Spurs, but I'd love us to play like them. People kept shouting about how we had an extra man, but it didn't matter. When you've got players who can pass and move like they have, you will always be better than shit like us. Ireland is the only player who could fit in their squad.

Our movement is nil. Our creativity is shockingly bad, but what can you expect when the Manager doesn't want to play with any natural width. Several times in the first half I called for the overlap, particularly down the left. That's why we have to pass backwards all the time, because we can't go wide/forward as we have no wingers!
-
CAN SOMEBODY STATE WHETHER THE MCLEISH OUT DAY THING WENT AHEAD? I WANT TO KNOW I LIVE IN CHINA - I AM FROM BRUM - AND WANT TO KNOW WHETHER THE SUPPORTERS HAVE HAD THEIR SAY. THANK YOU!
Hello China. There was no significant protest. There were about 200 people in front of Trinity standing in the park before the match. There was no sign of banner based protest after the game in the ground other than a concerted rendition of Sack McLeish M'Lord.
We and a few thousand waited for players to come back out with their kids and I can confirm that Collins' boy is quite a good tackler!

Pretty much this.
The lack of desire by some of our players to move into a position where they can receive the ball is what I find really astounding. So many times we have possession but no-one seems to want the ball. Why is this? What are they frightened of?
-
Just got back - a hearty well done to all the players bar one who put in a shift and managed to secure a point in spite of McLeish rather than because of him. A horrible season is drawing to an end, a completely forgettable experience which I hope is not repeated, time for a root and branch overhaul.

And so ends my first season as an Aston Villa season ticket holder. 4 wins. Cool.

So it's your fault... ;)

Not long home, went for a meal straight after the game, and alcohol was taken. Can't disagree with a lot of the postings. Couldn't bear to watch the penalty, so watched Friedel instead. Nice to see he didn't gloat or react. Couldn't get away fast enough when the final whistle blew.
-
Embarrassing display against 10 men specially iin the last 30 mins or so. But nothing new here we have seen it all before this season.
Well done to our young lads.
I thought Heskey was very effective today other than the good chance he had and he allowed their defender to get a tackle in.
N'Zogbia how disappointing...

Glad it's all over. Inquest to start Monday hopefully.

And still we haven't scored from a corner in the league.
What an awful season.
I wouldn't put it past us to be on the end of a pasting next week, with the 17 goal difference eroded to about 7.
What a complete waste of nine months football that was.
Mr. McLeish. You are the weakest link. Goodbye.

Inquest subject 1.!! New manager
2. Withholding of payoff from McLoser, worst home record in
history, must mean failure to fulfil contract.
3. Sale of the overpaid rubbish.

I put a bet on Spurs to win today and I'm glad to say my touch of shit did not fail me. We are staying up.
Now let's get a decent manager.

Thought we did okay for an hour, then they went down to 10 men and Heskey & Hutton went off and we were woeful. If those 2 are the difference between been half decent and woeful we really are in trouble.
-
Some positives- Shay only had one significant save to make, Bale and Lennon were kept reasonably quiet, Modric did most of his work in ineffectual areas, for all their possession Spurs did not create too many chances and the myth that it is easier to play against 10 men was exposed once again. At least the majority of the Villa players looked as if they cared.

yes totally agree,
when your watching from a high position ( upper holte] it is even more noticable how truly shit we are at any sort of movement of the ball,
even when a Villa player is in possession there is no one even making a run towards him looking for a pass, i mean its unbelievably basic but it just doesnt happen, Ireland is the only one who seems to get it, and it doesnt work if your on your own
-
^^^ yep it was vital if we were to get a result today to keep their wingers quiet and not let them counter attack so freely which destroyed Bolton mid week.

This is my biggest irritation with Villa and i'm like an annoying broken record over it, its the reason why we always struggle against 10 men as we don't have the movement when they go tight at the back and in midfield, Ireland is a clever player but needs players around him on the same level. First things first we need Clark at the back, his calmness on the ball would mean we don't keep hoofing it every time we get the ball at the back and giving the opposition the ball back. Ireland, N'zog, Bent and Weimann actually have good movement in our squad, we just need to sign the players to compliment them.
-
As annoying as they are, i'd like to say respect to the Spurs fans as most of them joined in the 19th minute applause.

you would think that the saturation coverage of teams like Barcalona and Spanish football in general would have highlighted it all the more,
i'm not saying they could be anything like as good, but look and learn.
its not difficult to move into a space and give a fellow team mate an option, same thing goes as regarding pressing, you dont have to be technicaly gifted to press the oposition when they have the ball, just organised and prepared to work hard.
if Messi the greatest player in the world can run his arse of by pressing a player to make a mistake, then it should be compulsary for our lot to try and do it
-
That seems such a distant memory.
In reply to Exeter 77.
-
It took me a while to dredge it up.
-
When Robbie Keane came on loan he was always getting frustrated with the lack of movement.
-
If you look at the way Mclieh sets the team up its petty obvious why there is no pass and move. He emplys a zonal system in our half and resticts where the playes go, that combined with 2 midfield anchors and then isolating the wide players.
-
I'd also like to know what we put on our boots? Quite a few slipped over, and yet I don't remember any Spurs players doing the same.

Noticed by us also. Wondered whether our players had studs one their boot.

Are your drugs legal or illegal?

Ahh, safety.. albeit the most ugly brand, its a relief.
WE WERE ABSOLUTELY AWFUL AGAINST TEN MEN.
McLeish had no plan, no initiative to adapt to the circumstances. He just put the players out there and figured that was all he could do. Unacceptable display. I can't believe our inability to get a decent build in to the final third. They pressed so high with ten men that a little bit of possession in their end would be a gaurentee, but leave it to Villa to be out-played and out-possessed.
Ship em out, all of em.
I was getting stick from a few for daring to suggest to the bench to LEAVE A MAN UP at corners... 1 player draws 2 of theirs & they were already a player down... it just meant when / IF we cleared they were able to come back at us immediately. CLUELESS, these two... Grant issuing orders that clearly confuse the players. Spurs WANTED it more - we NEEDED it more & I (for one) was relieved with the point... Can't watch more of this crap - the Club MUST know where the problem lies & he MUST go. Take N'zogbia with you, - Hutton too. And Heskey.
-
Just home from the game.
Agree. A lamer.

2nd Half was really really bad, outplayed by a team with 10 men. We had no desire to get the ball, no idea what to do with it when we got it and certainly no idea how to keep hold of it. Utter Blues.
I'll echo the movement off the ball stuff. We have virtually none.
After seeing the performance put in today by one C. N'Zogbia (i'm struggling to think of a worse one all season by anybody) I am convinced we Aston Villa avoid all things French they have pretty much all been for varying reasons been disasters Didier Six, Ginola, Berson, Makoun, Houllier, N'Zogbia, Pires....
Get shot of McLeish before Norwich, let everyone enjoy themselves and let the demolition job on this team of underachieving, dimwitted, lazy blundering mugs commence.
-
Having seen MOTD I have to say that it was a hideous challenge by Rose. Hutton is very lucky not to have broken his leg.
The challenge by Dunne really was stupidity of the highest order.
And finally, Alan Shearer proves once and for all he knows fuck all. Twat.
-
i just watched through two games expecting to see villa but I missed them. Damn
-
The effort was brilliant the style was worse than woeful. I could not understand in the second half when we were a man up why Spurs seem to have forwards in acres of space, the players must have been playing to orders. Nzogbia is a confidence player and sadly it has all been knocked out of him under McCleish, he was wanting to get off the pitch early on. Delfounso should never play for the firsts again,he is so like the Moore brothers it's uncanny. I have the awful feeling that Randy will dig in and keep the manager, can't wait for next season to start.
-
I see Shearer is still peddling the "Villa fans hate McCleish because of where he came from" line.
Unbelievable. He really is an appallingly badly informed, ignorant wankspat of a numbskull.

Any objection if I steal it? May I use it to describe the present Manager pleease?

Havent been to a home game since the Blackburn win.
There is a lot wrong at Villa Park.
Todays performance summed up our season and major changes are needed over the summer to avoid another season from hell. The first half was interesting in that we had an awful lot of the ball, but it was painfully obvious no one in the team had a clue what to do with it, hopeless punts forward, balls into space for Heskey to optimistically chase and Super Alan Hutton (more on him later).
The goal was a huge dollop of luck, topped with sprinkles of the ridiculous. You have to speculate to accumulate but Clark shooting from 30 yards is not my idea of attacking intent, albeit a welcome goal.
We seemed to take a bit of confidence from the goal, although no one told Super Alan Hutton as his woeful passing and clueless decision making left me at times dumbfounded. The confidence gained was soon lost as in the final third we couldnt fathom what we were doing.
I really do wonder what happens at bodymoor week in week out based on the inept set pieces I have witnessed today, poor corners, no variation, bad free kicks where we punt the ball to far post for Dunne to mis-time a header putting us under pressure allowing Spurs to break.
The second half then erupted with the Rose red and Hutton injury. As bad as it looked, it was another stroke of luck as if Hutton had stayed on the pitch much longer I may have had an annurism. Hutton is one of the poorest footballers I have had the displeasure of watching in a Villa shirt. Get rid in the summer!
Then with an extra man on the field we appeared to forget what game we were playing, let alone have designs on taking the advantage. Charles N'Zogbia, another overpaid waste of money who undoubtedly has the talent, but not the inclination or desire to use it. Looked disinterested and another who should be sold in the summer. Even at a loss.
Then the moment of madness. I didnt feel that Spurs had offered much upto this point, lots of possesion but lacking a cutting edge. A corner is thrown into a crowded box, and Mr Dunne felt it necessary to lunge in at Sandro even though there wasnt much danger as he was moving away from goal. Total Madness and not what you should expect from your captain.
The game then spiralled away from us as it did against Bolton, but luckily Spurs didnt take the advantage and strangely Arry seemed to settle for a point, when he put on Parker for Van De Vaart. No fight, No team spirit and No direction. One of the poorest games I have seen at Villa Park.
There are players in our squad who are often referred to as 'the kids' but most are into their early to mid twenties now and should be either an established premier league player or shipped out. The likes of Delfouneso, Herd, Bannan, Weimann, Gardner and Carruthers need to step up soon or fall by the wayside as many graduates of the Villa academy have done.
There are other players in our squad who wouldnt even make the bench in most premier league teams let alone start Heskey, Hutton, Collins are examples of this and shouldnt be in a Villa shirt.
Then there are those in the squad who couldnt give a monkeys about Aston Villa Football Club. N'Zogbia.
I feel the rest of the squad is salvagable, and it can be the basis of a good team, a good squad. Only if Alex McLeish is removed from his position sooner rather than later. My nightmare is that he isnt, he is then given a boatload of money to spunk on the likes of the Alan Huttons of this world and contract extensions of the Heskeys of the squad which will lead to, god forbid, an even poorer squad and surely Championship fodder next season. I pray for a Miracle, I expect nothing.

My son aged 14 just read this ( and i know it's late at night) and said 'I didn't know you had a twin'.
Fine words brother...........
-
Someone should tell Hutton to stop overlapping, he is hopeless at it.
-
Today was highly likely to be my last as a ST holder. I have had one for 26 consecutive seasons, but alas if McLeish stays there will be no more. I've always tried to keep a balanced view but it was the Man City game at home where I finally gave up the ghost and decided no more. Today was no exception, spurs down to 10 men and us leading we should have taken the game by the scruff of the neck, but no the usual negative 'don't lose' football instilled in the players by McLeish was employed.
Enough is enough, a sad day.
-

Agreed - Ireland is the only one in the current side and because he's the only one he ends up making some fairly lonely runs and looks like the one in the wrong...
-

Someone should tell Hutton to stop playing. He is hopeless at it!

I've never seen a more one sided game of 10 men against 11 ever. We were awful.
Agree, that period when we had 11 against 10 summed up McLeish and his ultra negative tactics. The players were bereft of any confidence apart from Ireland and Clark. The sight at corners (Spurs had 19) in the second half where all 11 Villa players were in the 18 yard box with no outlet was nothing short of a disgrace. McLeish has crushed the life out of any ceativity or confidence in the players. For that reason alone he should be shown the door - well done Randy, you complete muppet!!
-
I haven't been to a game this season. I'm at a point in my life where I support Villa, but I can think of better ways to spend an ever increasing amount of money each weekend (and need to).
However I watched a stream and yes, we were, as many people have said, pretty damn bad.
I for one however am optimistic. Lerner is going to want us to do one of two things....Go back to the way we were under Martin O'Neill (which I doubt) which would mean McLeish gone and money pumped in, or he wants us to get rid of big wage players still and build from ground up with youth.
I believe the latter was the plan this year, but given how close we flirted with disaster, I can't see him wanting to preside over a relegation battle again next season. So a decision has to be made doesn't it.
If I could have 3 wishes taking all the above into account, they would be in this order:
1 - Allow us to appoint a Technical Director if McLeish stays and give funds for a quality midfielder
2 - If not the above, get rid of McLeish and look to Martinez again. I wanted him before and I want him again. He can motivate, he's a nice guy, and he fits in perfectly with the ethics of our great club.
3 - If McLeish is to stay, and no Technical Director, then I'd be happy for Lerner to go.
My thinking is that only 1 or 2 will happen, with 1 being Lerner's preferred choice.
-
If I could be granted one wish Wiggz with the greatest of respect to you and your freedom to spend your time and money how you please is that supporters like you could get out of Homebase or Primark and come down to Villa Park and actually support the team for which you put forward suggestions as to how they can be improved.
-

I think you find that don't "support" Villa.
You might think you are a fan, but you don't support them.
-
A 90 minute snapshot of our season and McLeish's PL career. Dull, unambitious football with defensive organisation given importance far above all else. I think 'working hard' to get into a position to receive the ball and to support the lone front man should be viewed at least as equal to tackling and tracking back. The point though was very welcome if thoroughly undeserved.
I think we as fans played it just as I would have hoped, support for the team and then open expression of the feeling toward the manager when the whistle went. He cant stay on, can he?

I discussed the match with a bloke down the newsagents this morning. He watched it online and apparently the commentator came out with this gem in the first half.
"Lennon taking on Heskey for pace". Its 2 hours ago and Im still chuckling!
-
Took my kids and my brother yesterday, first game for a while. My observations.
1..We're really going to miss Cuellar. He made so many last ditch blocks and tackles today.
2..Clark is growing into a really good defensive midfielder. Herd is improving too, although he's not as far along yet. However, there should only be one of them in the side at at time.
3..Ireland can be a super player if we can put some players he can work with around him. He faded badly in the last 30 minutes, but given the ground he covered in the first 60, I'll forgive him that.
4..We badly need some pace in the team. N'Zogbia had a very poor game, but that's partly because we didn't stretch their defence at all and he was inevitably on his own against 2 defenders.
5..Replacing Hutton with Collins when we were leading and the oppo had just been reduced to ten men was an unbelievably negative move. Would have been far more positive to switch Lichaj to the right, withdraw Warnock to left-back and throw on Bannan. With Heskey also going off, we had to change the pattern to hold the ball more and play through midfield anyway - instead we just resorted to aimless long balls and practically invited them to attack us. It's not like McLeish didn't have about five minutes to think it over either.
6..We're short of real PL quality all over the pitch - unless we recruit well over the summer, it doesn't matter who our manager is, we're in for another long hard season bumping along at the bottom.

I think you find that don't "support" Villa.
You might think you are a fan, but you don't support them.
Well to be fair, he might do. Can you only 'support' the Villa by attending matches?
He might buy Club merchandise each season, persuade younger potential supporters that B6 is their future spiritual home and contribute by posting his opinions on official or unofficial websites.
I do all of these things having not set foot inside Villa Park for nearly 10 years - I don't mean to overreact to what is essentially sermantics but i'm damn sure I 'support' them.
-
To be fair Oz, you've got a pretty good excuse.
-
Ozvilla...certainly would not have a pop at you mate.
I think your circumstances are a far cry from admitting that going shopping is preferable to attending matches!
Although, given this season.........
-
I'm going on the Villa Park tour in June, first time in the ground for thirty six years can i still be considered a supporter?
PLEEEAAASE

I'm really glad we are safe can enjoy the summer now I just hope we replace McLeish in the summer.
-
A good point overall and i think a point before the game is what a lot of people would have taken bearing in mind how good Spurs have looked in the last two games.
I thought Ireland worked harder than he has since he's been here but N'Zogbia was bloody dreadful throughout the game, although he was carrying an injury towards the end apparantley.

Clive Allen and Joe Jordan are a pair of ******. Hutton was lucky not to have his leg snapped by a terrible challenge that the little shit house Rose and those pair of wankers had the nerve to complain about the red card.
Classless shite.

Yes, a pair of wankers. Redknapp though never complained as he saw how dreadful the challenge was because he was right in front of it.

I am coming round to McL think now..I expected us to get drubbed yesterday; wiped out. and we got another 'glorious draw'. against superior opposition...UTV!! and what a manager! McL has saved up from oblivion and left us straggling with the almost also rans and I am kinda happy..butI also think I am the one losing it!
-
Havent been to a home game since the Blackburn win.
.
great post . agree
-
Someone should tell Hutton to stop overlapping, he is hopeless at it.
Someone should tell Hutton to stop playing. He is hopeless at it!
To think , when we were interested in signing him , 99.9% of us said no way , he is awful
, yet a manager on £2 million a year thought he would be a good signing for £4 million . ffs

to be fair I didnt go much neither , I saved alot of money and bought two expensive synths . I didnt miss one game on either TV , stream or radio . But to be honest , If McLeish goes in the summer , I wont buy another synth in the next 12 mths , because I wouldnt be able to afford to as I would be going down VP alot more often.

The goal was a huge dollop of luck, topped with sprinkles of the ridiculous. You have to speculate to accumulate but Clark shooting from 30 yards is not my idea of attacking intent, albeit a welcome goal.
I credit the goal to the Villa fans. Two minutes before, Clark had a chance to shoot but instead passed it. The crowd let him know what he should have done. He didn't make the same mistake twice.
-
Well, this game really sums up why we are where we are in the league.
And your forgetting we still havnt scored from a corner this season, and we`ve also conceded a record number of goals from set pieces. So what`s he been doing on the training ground not practising set pieces that for sure.
-
The manager hailed his players for showing determination and desire to earn the point against the Champions League-chasing aristocrats from the capital
Jesus wept, when did we turn into Rochdale?

I think that you will find that Clark's goal was only the fourth we have scored from outside the area all season, 2 for Robbie Kean against Wolves and a belter from Stan. Why are players constantly trying to walk the ball into the net instead of taking a shot? The more shots you take the more pressure on the goalkeeper, the more chance of him making a mistake, you would think.
-
Didn`t see "Big Eck" on the touchline much, thought the "Gareth Bale you look like a chimp" chant was frikkin hilarious, defended brilliantly until all the enforced changes, then it was a bit fraught. Got the point we needed, thats the main thing, decent atmosphere for a change, the Spurs fans did themselves proud for Stans ovation and fair play to them for it.

This, and virtually every other problem (lack of movement, poor decision making, panic under pressure) is purely a result of low confidence. We have players capable of scoring from distance, we have players capable of winning the ball at a corner and getting headers on target, we have players capable of playing pass and move and taking the pressure off by holding on to the ball. The problem is none of this is being drilled into them in training with the ongoing message that if we play our game we can beat anyone. Instead we're told that holding on for a point against the 'elite' is a great result for a side with such a weak squad.
As I've said before McLeish has every player in our squad playing well within themselves, none have been consistently terrible (with the exception of maybe Hutton and Warnock at the start of the season and nzogbia recently) but no one has stood up and taken control of the games. For players to do that they need self-confidence, which starts from the training ground and the changing room.

Have they still not done anything about that?

2 minutes before he didn't have the time.
Lichaj cut in from the left and I thought he was going to have a go, being right footed, but he held on to long then passed to Clark, who in fairness never really had the time, as he was closed down quickly.
I've been saying all season that they take one touch to many or take a couple of seconds to long thinking about it.
Classic example was Weimann vrs Stoke. He scored that wonderful goal then in the second half, before they scored, he was through on goal. His inexperience told when he said he looked for Gabby, chance gone. Bent wouldn't have considered looking.
-
If you watch Clark's interview on AVTV, he points out that the manager had encouraged them to have more shots from that sort of distance.
