Not long got back from a work related course in Manchester which was boring as feck but woke me up to something.
Most supporters of other clubs (Premier League & lower) would love to see us get relegated this season. We have become that team that other supporters hate to watch live or on TV because we are so boring and the team they would all love to see drop out of the prem.
There was about 30 of us on this course, 2 of us were Villa and the rest supported teams ranging from ManUre and Arsenal to the likes of Stockport and there was even a lad who supported Weymouth.
The guy who supported Stockport said that we where by far the worst team he had seen this season and that he had watched teams play better football in the conference, he was actually a decent bloke and knew what he was on about.
The ManUre & Arsenal fans (neither of which seemed to far up there own arse) both said the same thing which was in the last few season they saw us as a difficult game home and away but this season they where confident that we where a guaranteed 6 points for them. The majority of them also said that last season it was blues that they wanted to see go down because they where so shite and said we are playing the same sort of football, i.e. boring, negative and set up not to lose and happy for a draw.
The general feeling was that teams like Wigan, Blackburn and even Bolton deserve to stay up ahead of us because they play better football and have a go even against the big teams, apart from Bolton who I think have been poor this season, I found it hard to argue against what they where saying
Its just sad to see that this season we have joined the likes of the blues, west ham and Newcastle as that team people love to hate.

I don't think we're hated, just pitied.
Which is even worse.
-
Sad indeed but that's what we have become.
I admired the spirit shown by the other teams in the shit with us this season, that is sadly something missing with us. Everyone else is capable of pulling off unexpected results. Not us though.
Is he gone yet ?
-
Everybody wants us to go down.
Shows that we are a big club.
-
Really, if I supported anyone else and had seen us this year, I'd want us to go down.
We make Stoke's football look flamboyant.
I can't wait till we see the back of this manager and his depressing anti football guff.
Oops. Soz. That slipped out.
-
Since when have we given a shit about what supporters of other clubs think?
-
Who care.
-
I don't think we're hated, just pitied.
Which is even worse.
That was the other thing I got of a lot of them, Pity, and your right its feels worse that some one saying that they hate us.
A lot of them also thought that we would struggle in the championship. A Coventry fan who was as down about Cov as I am about the Villa said that if we do go down and don’t get straight back up then we could easily end up languishing in the championship.

I don't give a shit.
I just don't blame them.
-
The pity thing is a smokescreen. Really they're just vultures and happy it's not their own team in the shit.
-
It's because they're jealous.
-
Everybody wants us to go down.
Shows that we are a big club.
'We', 'us', troll.

Don't know if your joking or not there mate but I am worried.
On the train coming back I started thinking about what the Cov fan said and at the minute with the way we are cutting cost and RL tightening the purse strings I cant see to much difference between us and someone like Leeds.
They had a couple of years of splashing the cash and trying to break into the top of the prem and managed to actually make the champions league (unlike us) then had things went pear shaped, No champion league and the spending slowed down and then the unthinkable happened and they went down.
I think they may have kept a few of there big players (on massive wages) the 1st season but after failing to get promotion they had to start rebuilding the whole squad but still signed players for big money and on big wages compared to other clubs at that level (average players mainly) and brought through young players thinking they would get back up.
They went down again and have struggled ever since. It worry’s me that this is the way we could go because I don’t think the players we have signed under RL have relegation clauses in there contracts (I hope I’m wrong on that) so the ones who stay will continue to collect high wages and we will struggle to sell some of the others because of the wages they are on and there age.
If the unthinkable happens and we do go down then we will be the big fish in that league and everyone from Leicester to Peterborough will be looking to get one over on us so it is not a far stretch of the imagination for us to end up like a Leeds, Forest or Sheff Wed.
-
There's always something enjoyable about watching a big club go down. Hopefully, Villa won't but if I supported someone else, I'd be hoping that Villa go down. I'm sure I'd be wanting one or two of their players too. I hope to God we don't give some of these fans the pleasure and satisfaction.
-
Villanic
I think you raise a few valid points there. Let's hope we don't need to find out for ourselves.

To right mate.

I have been mocked all season by a fucking Newcastle fan of all things. About christmas time I made a bet that we would still finish above them (yes I was drunk) and he's been taking the piss all season. He didn't even gloat after Bolton. Pitied by a Geordie. God help me.

Fair price to pay, since I expect he's been getting mocked for a lifetime.

'We', 'us', troll.
Lol you still think I support Small Heath?
-
Don't give a shit what other clubs think, especially not arse and the plastic mancs. arsenal won titles playing diabolical football under Graham and none of them complained at the time, now he's a dirty word to most of them under Wenger. United fans, well they're like rats, never more than 10 feet from one and if the amount of them who claim to be from there originally was true then Manchester must have had a population many times above london and birmingham combined 20 years ago.
yep we're shit to watch but i'd have to be in bad way to care what they think.

The shocking thing was that the ManUre fans were all from Manchester or Greater Manchester (think the one was from Rochdale), the Arsenal fan was from fecking Oldbury.
The Arsenal fan did actually speak some sense in the fact that he said we where a big club and deserve to be doing better and anyone who says otherwise is talking shit, the only thing he said that that really got under my skin was that The Villa have a history of ruining any top striker we buy and that Bent will be the latest victim. Now im only 29 so i haven't seem us buy to many top class forwards but i think the likes of Dublin and Saunders done well for us and Angel eventually showed he had something and Savo was young when with us and went on to have a good time in Spain and Italy.

Greater manchester is about as big as the west midlands. It's not manchester and includes places so far out the area to be larfable. Like if we called Telford, Wolverhampton and Coventry, Greater Birmingham, and was only invented by manc politicians to cure their inferiority complex.. Manchester has a population of about 400k so if you look at their crowds it must be a robber's paradise come weekends. I believe United aren't actually in, or weren't orignally in manchester but the City of Salford which makes you wonder. any United fan who say's he's from "Greater manchester" probably isn't from manchester

A persecution complex thread! Fucking excellent!
Has it now reached the stage where the relentless stream of threads, saying exactly the same thing ever so slightly differently about Villa's current plight is no longer enough, and it's necessary to start canvassing fans of other teams about some arbitrary notion of how big a team we are? This is embarrassing. Get a fucking grip!
-
Who cares what fans of other clubs think, especially fans of "United" and Arsenal whose support extends to watching their 'teams' on SKY and Match of the Day. I don't even entertain conversations about football with people like that, let alone listen to their opinion about Villa.
-
I keep getting sympathy off Wolves fans at work, its fucking odd.

My friends don't want us to go down because they have seen what we've been subjected to this season and know we're better than that as a club. They also know it'll put me in a bad mood and they can't bear the thoughts of me moaning and whining any more than I already do.

That's correct.
Old Trafford is not in Manchester.

Every club ruins expensive strikers. It's what comes from the transfer market massively overvaluing them as a result of unrealistic supporter expectations that signing one guy, whose job it is to finish moves, will solve all a team's problems.
-
Don't think we're particularly disliked - why would we be ? Most of my friends are asking me "what happened to Villa?"

At the weekends? No, it was (and is) a robbers paradise for every minute of the 3 years I lived there. The whole place is a cesspit of thieves; lost count of how many times I was robbed, mugged or turned over in some way by "mad-for-it" wankers.

We're the new Newcastle.
-
We're the new Newcastle.
Excellent. I shall look forward to a season in the Championship before coming up and smashing a sliding club 6-0 and then going on to push for the champions league under a much berated manager at the "One Stop Arena".
Edit: With the best fans in the world cheering us on etc etc...
-
We always used to think that being hated would mean we had made it and were challenging for honours. None of us wanted the Villa to be anyone's second team!
Bring it on, siege mentality and all that
-

I have been in a really foul mood for the whole of the last seven days thanks to the Villa. It's very difficult to snap out of it and my family can't understand why I have been so grizzly and snappy all week. I went to a management meeting on Wednesday after the Bolton result and barely said a word..

It would be balanced, I guess, if we are hated because I hate those clubs that aren't Aston Villa.
You name them and I'll give you a reason why they're a shower of twats.
-
No we are not.I dont think that anybody really hates the Villa in the Prem.
-
I think we are yet to be worse than stoke. But people must think FFS when they see it's is on the box at the weekend....
-
I think Villa have become one of those clubs that people truly don't give a toss about although I know from various Newcastle supporting friends that they would take great delight in seeing Villa drop after the delight we took in sending them down.
-
Most of these 'knowldegeable, well reasoned neutrals' have probably only bothered to watch us against the sky favourites man city and man united when we were abysmal, distinctly worse than we have genrally been, and have formed their opinions based on these games.
-
Everyone I know, everyone I work with and all my family are desperate for us to survive....as they are all completely pissed off with my depression, constant mood swings and general apathy......seems to have started around August !!

I definitely understand that though I haven't let it show at work. My boss is an Arsenal fan and in fairness to him he has become as concerned about villa's plight as he has with his own team. He's definitely willing us to stay up (though it's only because of me). He really dislikes our manager, mostly because of the way they beat them in the League Cup, but also because of what he turned us into. Went for drinks with a really knowledgeable United fan last night and we spent an hour talking about villa. He thought the kids look impressive but feels Villa have lost their identity over the past two years and have the look of a club that's just 'too nice and inoffensive'. He said we're above having to be celebrating PL survival two seasons in a row. His gut tells him we'll stay up and that City will win the League. I told him my head and heart say one thing about villa going down but that my gut is giving me a different answer.
-
I keep getting sympathy off Wolves fans at work, its fucking odd.
Ive been getting sympathy from a Wolves work mate, he says this shouldent happen to a club like Villa, he also wants us to stay up for a different reason, he wants the championship as weak as possible and thinks if we went down we would pull ourselves together and come straight back therefore making it more difficult for Wolves to return.
-
Since when have we given a shit about what supporters of other clubs think?
Maybe not directly but it does has some connotations. A few years ago we were the darlings of football because we seemed to be doing everything right and wow how things have changed!
-
No. Liverpool are.
-
It's at times like this I remember the words of the late, lamented Acker. "There's 92 league clubs. An' I 'ate 91 of 'em."
-
From a playing point of view i'd say we are,but overall with their managers carry on,wearing those fucking t shirts, and the buck tooth rodent racist, its got to be Liverpool.

Cant agree with that. Most fans would be neutral as there isnt that arrogance associated with clubs being situated in the capital, or the arrogance that comes from having being at the top and successful like clubs such as Lpool, Man U. If there was a sustained history of success, with arrogant fans, then i could see other fans loving to see the club relegated .
-
I keep getting sympathy off Wolves fans at work, its fucking odd.
yeah I do too. ' why did Aston Villa have him as manager , I feel for you brother '
-
Wednesday morning I had heart-felt condolences from a Wolves fan and a very gentle piss-take from another. An Olbiun fan smirked and then backed off rapidly when they realised I had actually been to a match (unlike them). A Manure fan (ex-ST at OT) from Chasetown mailed me to ask if I was OK as most of the Villa fans by him were suicidal.
A few fans are delighting in the downfall of the biggest club in the Midlands but most say they are terrified it could happen to them!
-
It's at times like this I remember the words of the late, lamented Acker. "There's 92 league clubs. An' I 'ate 91 of 'em."
Love it.
When asked who my second team is I say Villa Reserves followed by Villa Ladies.
I'm a Villa fan and I don't watch anyone else.
-
I think Villa have become one of those clubs that people truly don't give a toss about although I know from various Newcastle supporting friends that they would take great delight in seeing Villa drop after the delight we took in sending them down.
Can't really blame them, to be honest. What goes around comes around.
The time to worry is when you go down and nobody pays any attention.
-

My Wolves supporting colleague wants us to stay up. If we are relegated he is worried we'd sack McDuff and he'd end up at their place
-

As a 12 yr old visited Ackers house for the first time, sat on the couch while his son got ready. In walked Acker with words I'll never forget "you ay a f#%$^&g Blues fan are ya ? cos there ay no f#$%^^g blue scum allowed inside. Told him I was Villa and he replied welcome and smiled
-
Don't let these people discourage you amigo!
Hated for being 1 of 7 premier league founder members. And founder membere of football league maybe??
Nahh I'd say we re no way hated fans save that for teams of success or buy success or stoke and liverpool hah:
Man U Liverpool Cheslea Stoke City and Man city are the main offenders of hate for other premier teams.
Liverpool this season have been particularly despised when u hear opposing fans talk about them.
Similarly chelsea - way both clubs are run and their fans make them hated.
Man city if they start winning everythings and believing they shud win things will be hated as much as man u/liverpool. That poznan celebration already been mocked.
I would think other fans dont give much of a thought to villa these days -which is a shame.
-
I don't think we're important enough to be hated. I think fans probably hate the idea of watching us attempt to draw 0-0 with their team.
-
Nobody but us really thinks we're going down, they've seen us here before and we escape. .
Most people don't care about us one way or another, apart from our neighbours..
It's interesting that we never beat the top clubs and I think it's because their managers still respect our history and therefore prepare accordingly.
It's sad but we're looking like a Forest type club more often these days.
-
We can't be a disliked team when we have been so nice to other teams by giving them points. In fact they love us.
