I can't wait for this nightmare to end.

I'm glad it's an away game. We will play well overall but have spells of panic. 1-1 and don't put the brown trousers away just yet.

Our destiny will be sorted elsewhere.

I reckon a battling draw, and nervous phone checking, we'll be looking to the north east clubs to do us a favour.

Given - Hutton, Collins, Cuellar / Baker, Lichaj - Ireland, Herd, Warnock, N'Zogbia - Heskey, Agbonlahor

The combative midfield worked well for 60 minutes yesterday, before completely falling apart. Ireland would hopefully have helped keep some composure in there. I think Albrighton has been really poor this season and doesn' warrant a place in the side.

Weimann's movement was good yesterday, but I thought his touch and decision making were quite poor. Heskey was immense.

Is Herd struggling with an injury? I thought he was excellent.

Post by: David_Nab on April 25, 2012, 08:08:24 AM
Herd went off with a groin injury ..another in list of strain injuries ..

Cuellar was at fault for both goals so can see him being benched ,if Dunne is fit expect him back in the side.Albrighton should be dropped , well below his best at moment .

Defeat if Mcleish is there (which he will be unfortunately).
The only chance of some sort of positive result would have been if he wasn't.

So lets go for a 1-0 to the Villa and the promise of the ginger twat gone by the 13th May.

I'm clinging to the hope that we are better away and the lads will battle for a win despite McLeish and his lack of tactical ability.

A nervy 1-2 win, us holding out in the end. They will discover that they have to battle get and keep a  lead. But injuries are taking their toll on us, I don't know whether McLeish is a very unlucky manager or if the training methods are causing the injuries, but if it keeps going like it is the well will run dry.
Any word on why Stephen Ireland was not playing last night?

They beat us at VP for the first time in over 30 years (admittedly helped by the Staffordshire Red) so they'll fancy doing the double over us. After last night I just can't see us beating anyone. Win for them, while we continue to live on crumbs of hope that other teams will lose.

Let's face it, we're not going to get another win, and we knew that a few weeks ago but there's nothing like hope to keep football fans going.

Although, in the main, the hatred isn't as vicious or violent as that displayed by Small Heath, the Albion tramps are dying to beat us. They also have one thing over us. A good manager.

Not to be stating the obvious, but we had better start hoping other results start going for us. If we get spanked at the weekend we are in the shit. It would be awful to end up  trying to get a result at Norwich, our team isn't able to deal with pressure. They shit themselves after scoring last night.

I think we'll win this.

The Hawthorns is far from a fortress and I actually quite liked Warnock and Herd in the middle. Not a great deal of quality, but a lot of bite and aggression which is what you need in derby games.

The first goal is key.

I think a point would be a good result and allow us to put space between ourselves and Blackburn and QPR.

I thin realistically, they’re looking at a maximum three points each from their remaining games. That’s not set in stone, obviously, but that’s what looks the most likely.

I was speaking to an Albion friend on the way home last night and inbetween cursing McLeish, he said he wish they’d played us earlier, as he doesn’t fancy us on Saturday.

You’d know that if SHA or the Albion were coming to Villa Park  with us off the back of two consecutive derby wins, a good win previously and them having won 1 in 14, then good ole probability will bite you in the backside.

We’ll do them.

Hopefully Collins back in which should make a big difference to the defence, and Ireland which should help the attack.

We played well against them at VP before the sending off with Herd playing in front of the back 4.  I'd adopt a similar formation for this given that we need to grind out a point.

Not sure who I'd play upfront though - Heskey played well by all acounts last night but is he injured?  Would prefer Wieman to Gabby on current form.

not sure up front , maybe Heskey and Agbonlahor and Weimann to come on for 25 mins for Heskey.

Lets's look at this realistically, shall we ? No-one can predict the score. (How many predicted a win last night ?)

What we CAN do , is compare Player's CONFIDENCE & Manager's Tactical Strategy & Motivational Abilites.

Consequently - I am VERY worried.

This is the best chance we have got for a win in our last three games in my opinion.
We simply have to go for it, I think Warnock and Herd did OK, if Heskey is fit I'd keep him up front with Agbonlahor.
Dunne back in defence with Cuellar also, maybe we have a chance with as much experience as we can muster.
Albion will be itching to beat us and send us down, we have to match their midfield so I'd keep it strong in there.
This is it.

After the despair of last night, I am feeling a little more positive today.  Can honestly see us getting a draw on Saturday.  I've given up putting down what team I would like to see, so I think McLeish will revert to 4-5-1 for these three games and we could see a line up of:

Given

Hutton
Collins
Cuellar
Lichaj

Herd
Warnock

Weimann
Ireland
N'Zogbia

Heskey

That of course is taking for granted that everone is going to be fit.  Not the team I suspect most of us would choose but there you go.   If fit, Dunne will come in and Cuellar would probably go to RB.  I can definitely see him using Weimann (or maybe even Bannan) out wide and I could also see him putting Gabby in for N'Zogbia and using him as a wide player.

We are due a win.  One win every five games on average, this therefore is the game we win!!  Either that, or it'll be a draw.  Baggies not so great at home, I'd pack the midfield and hang on for grim death.

Confidence of the team has gone. Despite the owner's and CEO support McLeish must be dreading walking out onto the pitch. Moreover he has no plan or wherewithall (indeed never has had!) to get the team to perform and break the downward spiral we are in.

Going for a 2-1 loss I'm afraid.

WBA win 2-0 Odemwingie and Ridgwell from a corner

No idea who we have fit but time to take some of the kids out of the firing line now and let these £2 million a year players get us out of this unholy mess

Given, Hutton, Dunne, Cuellar, Lichaj, Warnock, Herd, Ireland, N'Zogbia, Agbonlahor and Heskey if all available with Weimann, Albrighton, Gardner and co as options on the bench

As I am a Villa fan I'm naive and romantic, therefore, I'd put Carruthers and Gardner in and tell them to go out and enjoy it, and win the game and come home borne on the shoulders of your team-mates!
We would be no worse off than we have been since January.

Injuries permitting I'd go with :-

Given
cuellar, collins,baker,lichaj
herd, warnock
ireland
agbonlahor heskey nzogbia

weimann, clark, carruthers, hutton, guzan, gardner, albrighton

A reasonably strong team on paper. I thought on Tuesday the younger lads felt the pressure a bit after we went behind. On the plus side Warnock looks a far better midfielder than he is a fulback and Emile continues to look effective.

Albion are adept at keeping possession in midfield but are a bit suspy at the back.  Their away record is better than their home record - where they have only scored as many as we have and have lost more.

We need to compete in central midfield and have a go at them down the flanks. We just need to keep our nerve, we can take them.

1-0 to Villa (Emile, 65 mins)

I honestly believe he should've walked out in shame by now.
His tactics, team selections, decision making and interviews have been embarrassing. I can only think that other managers must be sitting at home thinking "Now if that was me I would....."

I'm hoping he's hanging on for the pay off.

Ever the optimist we are gonna surprise everybody and nick the 3 points! ;-)

Reports suggesting that Dunne is going to be returning to full training this week, so maybe he could be an option if fit.  Can see McLeish putting him straight back and if that was the case I would probably move Baker over to LB in place of Lichaj.  I think the rest is about right, though I can see him putting Weimann out wide instead of N'Zogbia.

Can't see us scoring more than one, probably in the first half, and the Baggies will probably score at least two, as our defence is too suspect when we come under pressure in the second half after the master tactician's team talk and telling the players to shut up shop.

Alternatively, if the Baggies score first, we'll be on the back foot from then on and AM won't have a clue what to do, as attacking isn't a word he knows about. Probably thinks the Albion are an elite team.

One thing we simply cannot afford to do is capitulate.

Goal difference could just be our saviour come that last weekend so we can't afford to have a really bad day at the office if other teams collect points elsewhere.

I know that we've pilloried AML for being negative previously but now because of that negativity we've actually played our way into a situation where we may genuinely be needing to keep it tight and not go all out.  Fucking crazy that it's come to this.

Gives us eperience and youth on the pitch, but I think for a one off, we need the big boys in. Final score - 1-1

I don't fancy this. Roy's done a cwacking job with them. They're fairly solid now, safe mid-table.

Despite how comfortable they are, there's no danger of them having one eye on their holidays at the weekend. Roy's too professional to let the happen firstly and secondly, every Baggie out there would love nothing more than to hammer a nail or two into our relegation coffin. It'd make their bloody season if they had a big hand in relegating us.
I can't see us keeping a clean sheet. We were woeful against Bolton. West Brom are a much better side with a decent front line. We'll struggle. We can't handle pace either. We won't score more than 1 either.
2-1 WBA.
I think it's gonna be all on the Norwich game. Hopefully they'll have their deck chairs out. I do actually fancy nabbing a fairly unimpressive and comfortable win off them.

I know a chap who has been a season ticket holder for near on 15 years home and away went to all the European games as well (even the one in Russia where they put out a second team) and he didn't once grumble or moan about it. However when he heard McLeish had become manager he gave it all up and decided to go to watch Redditch United saying he wasn't going to pay money to watch the drivel that was going to be served up by Villa this season.

As bad as we've been this season and with exception maybe of Odemwingie, I don't think any of their players would get into our strongest XI we could field.  By that I mean:

Given

Cuellar
Collins
Dunne
Warnock (bad I know, but would we swap him for Ridgewell?)

Jenas
Petrov
Ireland
N'Zogbia

Bent
Gabby (maybe switch him for Odemwingie)

Not many of their players getting in that side and it's shame we haven't been able to field that team more often.  I think they are a bang average mid table side, whose fans are getting way ahead of themselves.

Dunne wasn't in shape before he got injured, I don't know why he would be in shape now but I guess we might as well throw him in the mix. We need fucking goals not better defense.

I hope Gabby turns up to play. He's lost his striker spot though, I'd have him out on the wing opposite of Charles, with Weimann and Heskey up top.

1-2

Wouldn't surprise me if it is 0-0 and it might not be a bad thing.

However, my last input on one of these threads predicted a 1-0 v Fulham with a link to a game from the past that I thought may be similar(in that case Newcastle 1-0 at home last year)
So I'm going to go for a 1-0 win again in the style of Blues away 1-0 under O'Leary (when he ran onto the pitch at the end)

If we play Dunne and Collins, there's a fair chance there will be two substitutions well before McLeish's normal changes with 3 minutes to go.

By Dan Harrison

Richard Dunne has declared himself ready to help Villa win their battle for survival after recovering from a broken collarbone.

Dunne is in line for a return to the action in Saturday's crunch West Midlands derby showdown against West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns.

The Irish defender insists he is ready for the rough and tumble of a relegation scrap after working hard to get back to fitness.

His last appearance for Villa came in the 1-0 defeat against former club Manchester City in February.

"I'm back in training, I'm easing my way back in and joining in with the lads," he said. "I'm available for Saturday, we'll see what happens.

"It's been hard watching because we're all mates and you can see that the performances haven't been poor but the results haven't gone for us.

"You have to be out there trying to help people, so it is frustrating.

"I've made myself available because I want to go and help and be part of helping the squad stay up.

"Everyone should be excited and very determined to go out and win tackles, win header and win everything.

"We've got to walk off the pitch on Saturday knowing we've done our jobs and hopefully got three points from it."

Dunne has embarked on a mini pre-season to ensure he is back for the vital run-in.

He has put thoughts of Ireland's Euro 2012 campaign to one side for now with Villa's battle for top-flight safety his top priority.

"I'm not going to be a million per cent fit because I've not played for a while," he added.

"I've done a mini pre-season over the last few weeks and my shoulder is stronger than ever.

"I could go and play in a friendly for Ireland and pull my hamstring a day before the tournament, so there is no point me thinking 'I can't do this, I can't do that because I might get injured'.

"I'm back, I'm fit and I'm ready to go."

Based on absolutely nothing, in fact based on overwhelming evidence to the contrary, I think this weekend's going to go well for us, with us winning and all our rivals losing/dropping points. Everything is going to be alright. Up the Villa. McLeish out.

I want to say we'll win, because football's weird like that. But I just can't see it at all with our form, confidence, injuries......manager.

Hope Ireland is back. Maybe him and Nzog can provide a few minutes of quality that will count (4 times would be handy)

SSN reporting that Collins, Ireland and Heskey all in doubt for the game.

Baggies likely to have Scharner fit. He always plays well against us.  I'd definitely have Cuellar at RB.

If Collins is out I'd go with Lichaj at right back, Baker left back, Dunne and Cuellar in the centre.

                               Given

Lichaj           Cuellar         Dunne        Baker

               Herd        Clark       Warnock

               Agbonlahor          N'Zogbia
                            Weimann

With everybody fit:

                                  Given

Lichaj             Collins            Dunne           Warnock

                 Herd          Ireland         Clark

         Agbonlahor       Weimann         N'Zogbia

....maybe.

I've been getting gloating texts at 3 am this week from a baggie mate in the uk.
Looking forward to reciprocating on Sunday when I'm tucking into a hearty lunch and he's halfway through an unpleasant d & d comedown!

Lawro has us to lose which is good as he rarely gets our predictions right :-

It is always nice to deal your rivals a severe blow so West Brom will be delighted if they can beat Aston Villa and add to their disastrous run of form, which has seen Alex McLeish's men win only one of their last 13 league games.

The Baggies have done it before against Midlands opposition, when they thrashed Wolves 5-1 in February, in what was Mick McCarthy's last game in charge at Molineux.

West Brom had a great win against Liverpool last weekend, although they did seriously ride their luck at Anfield. Roy Hodgson admitted that and you know when your manager says that, you have been seriously battered.

So they come into this game on a high, whereas Villa just cannot buy a goal right now. McLeish had to bring Emile Heskey back into his starting XI against Bolton and the last time he scored was on 20 August.

There is no doubt Villa's players are playing for McLeish but they cannot win games because they cannot score. Once they lost Darren Bent, you always knew they were going to be in trouble.

Villa play well in patches - for example, they started well against Bolton - but it looks to me as if they are waiting for something to happen. It is - they are sinking fast.

Prediction: 2-0

As has been previously been pointed out for the majority of the season he says dismissively "they'll be fine" about every club in the league as if he thinks relegation's been abolished. Then when teams go down, or are about to, he becomes a genius with the benefit of hindsight. Let's face it he's only interested in one club, the rest are there to make up the numbers. Hopefully his buddy Klu Klux Kenny will drop them in it next season so he might actually know a bit about what's going on down there. Tosser.

People seem to have short memories thinking Dunne will come back and tighten our defence !!!! Baker has been possibly the best player for Villa in the last four games. He has a great engine and Dunne has never been known for his pace. Heskey up front with Wiemann and Nzogbia pushing behind with Ireland. Herd and Gardner holding up play. 0-1 Gardner free kick ............

I think Collins and Ireland are needed.  I think Collins has been coming in for some unfair stick recently.  His performances have improved vastly over the season.
Ireland was a big miss against Bolton.  Had he played, i think we would have won that game.

Baker, as well as he's done needs a break. This shit has hit the fan and we need the seniors back, let's not forget that until the spate of injuries we were not in the battle. Agreed we were shit but our heads were always above water. Since the youngsters have come in we've struggled, I'm not blaming them but we're not going to stay up with them in. Weimann works hard but doesn't look like he's got too many goals in him and Baker has been caught out a bit at times. I think Lichaj has been the pick of the bunch. They've done well but the pressure is too much for them at this time and if the crowd turn, like they did in the week, it's not going to help them/us at all. Put the big boys back in and let's get this done!

I would play a narrow midfield against Albion, Herd in front of the back four, Warnock alongside Bannan (or Gardner) with Ireland behind the front two if he is fit.  If he is not fit I would play N'Zogbia in the same position.

I do not see the reasoning in playing Heskey unless we have no one else fit.  We need to score tomorrow and Heskey never looks like scoring and doesn't create chances for others so what is the point.  If Gabby is fit I would play him and N'Zogbia (provided Ireland is fit).

Whatever team and formation he selects tomorrow, McLeish has to have an alternative from the bench so as to change if required and not just go like-for-like.

From the vaults....

The fact that every time the Hawthorns gets near capacity they can't cope, the Alex Cropley game when they set out for ninety minutes to kick anything in claret and blue, Alan Baker, John Woodward, Ray Graydon, their sanctimonious holier-than-thou we're only a little team and we're going to enjoy ourselves everybody likes us attitude, the fact that their most famous supporter made a career out of humiliating their most famous ex-player - a man who it is now known was suffering from a degenerative brain disease, their absolute hatred of us (and me or Coops can supply a list of places to pop into before or after the match for anyone who thinks that they're all nice and friendly), the time we beat them 7-2 in a reserve match then in the return a month later they had nine of their first team playing because they couldn't bear losing again, their pretence of being nowhere near Birmingham despite their post code and phone number, their stupid jumping up and down and making twats of themselves in the name of atmosphere, letting the likes of Soccer AM makes fools of them and degrading all football supporters everywhere by implication, still going on about Ronnie Allen and 1959 like it's the most important thing to ever happen in their sad, woebegotten lives and it probably is, not being able to get a drink anywhere near the ground, constant whining of it ay fair and the world's against them, just watch tomorrow how many of them blame the referee for all seventeen of our goals, moaning that the local press are biased against them despite the fact that they've got more supporters in the media than us and Small Heath put together, Adrian Chiles, Skinner again, endlessly complaining that they would have won the league in 1979 if the weather hadn't turned cold in January like it wasn't the same for every other club in the first division, bleating on and on and on about how loyal they are just because their crowds didn't get as low as the Wolves like that makes any difference, having the highest percentage of middle aged fat blokes walking round supermarkets in football shirts of anywhere in the world including Newcastle, having a civic reception for finishing third in the third division, showing Ossie Ardiles what Smethwick looks like from the top of a double decker bus then wondering why he fecked off the next week, every time a player leaves them they always moan he's only gone for the money even when they're swapping Smethwick for Madrid, Willie Johnstone, that bloody stupid bird stuck on the top of the scoreboard, those executive boxes with corrugated iron roofs, playing the Liquidator just like their big bad rivals in the Stadium of Yellow, that stupid metal sheeting at the back of the old away end that meant I missed every goal when we were three up at half time there, having to play in the morning in the FA Cup 1990, the half time message in the second division "Will Villa supporters please move forward, there are still some trying to get in", boasting about giving a policeman brain damage at Villa Park in 1978 but they're still nice & friendly, being surrounded by the bastards in the Witton Lane stand in 1974, never enough buses back down Holyhead Road, being the only local league club to insist on playing Birmingham Senior Cup games at home and thus depriving the local non-league teams of a decent gate, thinking they have a God-given right to park anywhere they like and moaning when they get tickets for parking on double yellow lines, you can bet there'll be more face paint and stupid wigs per supporter than at any other ground in the country and I include Newcastle in that again, the six wankers shouting their gobs off on the bus when I was going back home after the game in 1982, the very quiet one who was left when his five mates got off, the 1887 cup final when they planned to get the train back via Worcester to avoid travelling through Birmingham with the cup, except the cup went straight back to Aston without them ha fucking ha, coming up and saying that they weren't going to spend any money because they wanted to go straight back down and use the parachute payments to get back again, Skinner and Chiles walking up and down Witton Lane looking for camera crews, making out Bryan Robson was a returning hero when they'd hated him ever since he left, forgetting now that they wanted him hung a month after he became manager, the day they stayed up and reckoned everybody in the country loves them because they're such a nice inoffensive club with wonderful fans, having to get coaches to come three miles down Island Road, that fucking sanctimonious Grorty Dick fanzine that used to call us arrogant yet made out that they were such a big club, then had a celebration issue when they beat us in a youth match I kid you not, being the only Villa supporter in a school of 1,600 of the bastards when they didn't care about Wolves, getting a manager sacked because of a low crowd for a pre-season friendly, Alex Cropley again, Eric Clapton and I'm sure UB40 used to say they supported them when they were good, the fucking Albion that is not UB40, having their end named after a city they hate, an evening paper that treats playing Manchester United in the league in the same patronising way that Kidderminster Harriers would get in the FA Cup, Jim Cumbes dropping down two divisions because our crowds were bigger, treating reserve matches as something really big and important, having a shopping centre in the town and gates at their ground named after a player who scored in a cup final and cost England the World Cup, this supposed 'big club' making a fuss of winning the third division play-offs, Terry Wills who although he is a very nice man should be told that he does not have to go on every radio station after every match, asking us to play friendlies and still treating our supporters like shit, wanting every manager sacked after three defeats, Bob Taylor, every one of their supporters over fifty was at the ground when they relegated us in 1959 and will talk forever about it but none of them remembers us stopping them winning the league four years earlier, you're not telling me it's a coincidence that Alistair Fucking Brown got a job working for them after his thuggish career was mercifully brought to an end, knowing more about how Bayern Munich should have won the European Cup in 1982 than Bayern Munich do, my irritating little shit of a cousin who used to support Manchester United then got a season ticket up there when they got into the Premier League, including Prisoner 820468 Hughes, L, in a book called Cult Heroes and I bet the family of the bloke he killed have got a better and similar description for him, some knobhead I heard saying all he wanted to do when they went down was come back up win the cup and kick fuck out the Villa then talked about football for ten minutes and never once went off the subject of how much he hates us, I bet that Everton fan they blinded thinks they're lovely, a town centre where the best pub is a Wetherspoon's and the best restaurant is McDonalds, how every time we beat them and there's a lot to choose from they always complain that they'd rather lose than play like us like they have a choice, putting reserve teams out in games they're going to lose anyway but it's alright for them to do it, every time they come up saying they don't intend to spend any money because we're only a little team and we're doing ever so well to be here in the first place, Tony Mowbray always claiming moral victories..

quite a nice guy in my local (park Tavern in kingswinford, large olbeyun followin)said to me the other week 'oh i remember when we did Alex Cripply' and started laughing! i replied to him that i always thought he was an intelligentish man and always took note of his football stories and banter and enjoyed it! i then said i would treat every word out of his mouth from now on with utter disdain and contempt, to which he replied, 'Ifucking heard the crack as well, it was great, villa cont!'

Before pretty much every game this season I've convinced myself that this will be the game when our form turns and I see no reason to stop that dellusional notion now - 2-1 Villa, Gabby to get the winner in the last five minutes.

Yes, Matt.  Call it blind faith if you will, but that really is why we keep coming back isn't it?

Depending on injuries....

Given

Carlos
Dunney
Collins
Lichaj

Gardner
Herd
Ireland

N'zogbia
Gabby
Weimann

McLeish needs to stop playing 4-4-2 imo. We can't dominate against any time in the league with that formation as even Wolves tore us apart in the first half at Molineux when we played that.

WBA will probably go 4-4-2 so I think he needs to take Albrighton out (he has done very little in the last two games) and try to outnumber them in central midfield.

Still think WBA will win this 2-0 as can't see us creating much and we'll probably concede from a corner like we did twice at VP.

I hate the fact that deep down they think they are a big club and have great support despite it being 40 years since won anything and 50 years since they averaged 30K in a season. Wankers.

All the top team in the Midlands bollocks. 2 wins against us in decades and 1 finish above us in the same time and suddenly it's as though the previous 125 years never happened. Wankers!

Banging on how we're always mentioning 80-82 as it's all we have. And then proceeding to talk about Jeff Astle, Ronnie Allen and the Three Degrees and that lates 70s/early 80s side was better than us (despite us winning trophies and they won fuck all) for hours on end. Wankers.

Always claiming to be in the home stands at Villa Park and how they took the piss and sang and wanked themselves off and Villa doing nuffin about it. Despite no one ever seeing them anywhere in the home ends.
Classic example. I had the misfortune to look at one of their fan sites after the VP game earlier this year, and a load of them were banging on about being in the UT taking the piss. Funny that the area they mentioned they were in was just behind my seat and they said and did fuck all in the time I was there. Assuming they were there at all. Or maybe they just waited until everyone had gone. Wankers.

I know the Wanker that was involved in the Everton Fan losing his eye. He got caught at the Uplands row too, all though was a very peripheral figure. Lot of bluster and no substance sums the situation.

Gabby loves a derby.
.
2-1 Villa, Gabby both, with Dunne being MOM and us being safe.

Got to go as experienced as possible, and agree with Soccer, narrow the more I think of it. Stop them playing. I might even be tempted to go Clark, Warnock, Herd in front of Dunne, Collins, Cuellar and Lichaj, with Ireland, Gabby and NZogbia just told to win us the game. Blocking the midfield with those 3 is the way forward last 3 games IMO. All can play a bit, Warnock can clearly get forward well and looks way better there than left back, and Clark gives us an extra marker and threat from corners either end. Plus, it is about as experienced as we have.

ozz I don't like you suddenly predicting us to win games, didn't work for Bolton did it?!

Ireland's no good for tomorrow, so I'm giving the middle to Gary Gardner. With local pride and security on the line I think the kid will care too much to lose. I don't like the Dunne/Cuellar pairing but Eck wants experience and has already fair guaranteed the spot to him. Marc needs a weekend off, really struggling. And Gabby doesn't have a strikers intuition anymore. Heskey and Weimann deserve it for me.

Three points, c'mon boys.

It's not a popular notion, but I think Heskey was very effective on Tuesday until the team cacked its collective pants after Kevin Davies came on. It wasn't the prettiest football but he got in the faces of Bolton's two-dimensional centre-backs and Albion hardly have Ferdinand and Vidic in that position either. Look at their old reliables - Olsson, Brunt, Scharner, Mulumbu: all of them designed to cause disruption and win the ball for more skilful players. Basically, if we play Bannan and Albrighton we'll get nothing out of the game, but if we get in their faces we're more likely to come away with something.

I hope that if Albrighton gets some involvement, he is told to stop hiding and deliberately drifting inside. On Tuesday there was half a pitch of space for a player like him to exploit but he didn't call for the ball, make an intelligent run or make time for a pinpoint cross. Maybe I'm missing something but if you've got a stack of pace and no defender within a mile of you, shouldn't the smart thing to do be to ensure you recieve the ball when you can run with it and not straight into a defender?

I would keep Marc as far away from this game as possible. I try to be positive with the young(er) guys but he's been very underwhelming of late. He couldn't kick a beach ball into the ocean let alone serve a decent ball into the box. He's lost his ability to beat his man and he's never been a defender.

I'd give this one to Carruthers.

Marc delivery has been poor for a while now and even though i rate him i think even Gabby or Emile would do better on the wing at the minute.

Got agree I'd like to see Carruthers start, He looks an exciting player in the bits that I've seen. He might just be that little spark we need and i hope Gardener starts tomorrow.

I'd also like to see us stick with Heskey (if fit) and Weimann up front, it look good for the most part against Bolton.

Also, Paddypower has the odds of a 2-2 draw at 11/1, 3 points less than anyone else, so a room full of actuaries must have had the same dream. 2-2 @ 14/1, cash in on the misery!

Not too sure about the return of Dunne. We'll still win.

We have only lost 5 away from home all season, and that to the top 5 teams in the league. We have no reason to break the habit.

Pack central midfield a bit, get agricultural on them at the back and Gabby, N'Z and Super Emile will do the biz up front.

They are absolute rubbish, I don't know how they have the cheek to even turn up for kick off.

Closer it gets, more sure I am that any irrational thoughts I had we might win or draw have gone. 3-0 Albion is my latest feeling.

No streams that I can find either, so might have to be the wireless.

Today is a game for experienced players

Given

Hutton   Collins or Cuellar  Dunne   Warnock

N'Zogbia  Herd   Clarke   Agbonlahor

Ireland

Heskey

They should be up for it & we need a big performance from Dunne, if he can repeat his performance from Russia vs Ireland in October (the finest performance I've seen from any defender, including McGrath) he will keep WBA out on his own.

When they look at the table, they know that is a lame excuse for punditry,

Merson is the worst. Lives in Sutton and still doesn't know the score.

Shame, if it wasn't for him consistently peddling this myth he'd be my favourite pundit.

We know the truth, these myopic fuckers have neither the intelligence nor desire to establish the facts. I've given up being wound up by them.

All that matters is that we stay up, get rid of McLeish & replace him with someone worthy of being called the manager of Aston Villa.

I believe, with a religious zeal, that we will smash these Mickey Mouse twats into next week.

Their misplaved arrogance will be cleansed and they will leave their little rat hole of a stadium knowing that the Villa will be back next year and that this game is a taster for our dominance which will last anothrr thousand years.

Insignificant wankers.

Yep, thats the attitude. I can never imagine anything other than a win against them. I mean, Gordon Bennett, its Albion. We should go there with all the belligerence and swagger that they accuse us of and take the 3 points that is our right. 2 - 0 Villa

R5 commentary this pm is bloody Wigan! Is there a bigger 3pm kick-off today than the West Midlands derby? Even the Everton game would make more sense, FFS!

Just been on to VillaStreams and they're not showing it because of these new restrictions. Today of all days I'll be reduced to listening to mr Jack 'how-not-to-commentate' Woodward. Any other suggestions?
