Title: 50% Villa Craig Gardner
Post by: DBTW on April 23, 2012, 01:42:57 PM
Im not sure if this has already been menrioned but I found it strange to seethe Trinity side of the ground giving sent off Gardner a huge applause.

I then read that he had removed his Sunderland shirt to display a 'Support Stan' T shirt.

For all of his misjudged comments and actions of late, you have to admit the young lad has shown massive respect and maturity in this instance.

I think he was hoping to score and unveil it.  Fair play - better than Paul Tait version!

Arse.  And I was in the Holte End chanting "Wanker"!  Was in totally the wrong angle to see what was on his shirt.

Me too. Perhaps he should've turned around to show the Holte, or would that have made him look a bit more of a dick by trying to impress us with his top?

Yeah on MOTD2 it cut to his brother on the bench clapping him (which I thought was just some good old brotherly support) but that all makes sense now (especially as he did have his top off but the MOTD2 camera only showed him from the back. A really nice gesture - to be fair. Gone up in my estimation (but to be fair the only way was up after his comments after his move)

A Brummie kid, the brother of a lad we hope will become a huge star for us, and a Villa Academy graduate who only moved on to try and make a career for himself when his first team opportunities here became so limited.
Good luck to the lad.

Saw this from the north stand lower.  Fair play to him.
Personally I have no real problem with Craig Gardner apart from the fact he said he was a villa fan then as soon as he went to blues, admitted he had been a blue nose all his life.  There would have been no issues had he always said he was a blues fan from day 1.

I sit in the family stand and I, like nearly every one else in the area, applauded his action.
To be honest I wouldn't have booed him anyway.
I liked him when he was with us, and would welcome him back.

The bloke in front of me was calling him for everything, shouting that we changed our minds just because he was wearing a 'Stan' t-shirt!
The guy's an idiot anyway, so I shouldn't have been too surprised.
The family stand is no place for the filth coming from his mouth, there are children by us, and shouldn't be subjected to it. That's why we go there.

Fair play to him, i wouldnt be adverse to swapping him for warnock in the summer- gardner has improved since he left and scores a few goals from midfield which we have lacked since milner left.

If the guy's language is unacceptable in the family stand, then you should have a quiet word with a steward about him.

As for Craig Gardener, fair play to him for the T shirt display. Unfortunately like most in the Holte I didn't see what was on it so I joined in the singing of cheerio to him and waving goodbye.

I reckon we'd see Gary play better with Craig in the side, too. But yeah, there's a place for him. He battles hard, scores goals, tackles. We're light in midfield as it is. Warnock for Gards, I'd say yeah.

I'd have him back at the Villa.  He is exactly the kind of player we need in midfield and if we could get him for next to nothing on a swap deal with someone like Warnock, then it would be a good move.

It was a mistake to let him go,especially when we had players like Sidwell keeping him from getting into the side, even though Sidwell never played that much. He's shown at Blues last season and this season at Sunderland that he's a more than decent PL midfielder.

I don't know.  I'm sure Craig has a lot of time for Villa despite being a Blues supporter so he was in a difficult situation when asked such questions.  I'd love to see him back at Villa - it would be great for GG too.

I always liked Craig Gardner, if for no other reason than his photo alone suggests he could have been the second Romeo Benetti.

10 goals last season (I think) suggests we did not get the best out of him. Small Heath sold him for double the amount they paid us - they certainly got the better of the deal.

I don't think he really wanted to leave and I couldn't give a monkeys about what he said a bout being a bluenose.

I'd have him back, especially at an MON reject price.

Agree with this also - if he could have found a regular place in the Villa midfield, he'd probably still be here, but unfortunately he just wasn't quite good enough for where the team were at the time....looking at the players we have now though, and I think he could do a job for us.

Don't think he'd lead us to the Champions League but he's a hard working midfielder with a great shot. A bit better than what we have at present and will probably get better. like Barry?

If this is the standard of player we are after this summer then we are in real trouble over the next couple of years.  Very ordinary.  Works hard and I respect him for wearing the Support Stan T shirt on Saturday, but I wouldn't want him back if it's at the expense of being able to spend the money for him elsewhere.

Yes I did. All my mates were (and still are) Blues fans. Obviously you dont have the money when you are still at school to travel away so unless Villa were at Albion or Wolves so thats what most of us did.I remember on the Spion Kop at St Andrews
there was a big hole in the corregated roof so if it rained heavily it was like Niagara Falls!

Mind you I couldnt wait for the Villa half time score and the full times on the old scoreboards.

I'd heard (can't remember from where, though) that Craig followed the Blues and Gary the Villa.
Don't know how true that is, might just be a wild rumour, but it would explain the 'Villa one week, Blues the next' thing

I thought he was possibly the best player on the pitch on Saturday (Sessignon the other).
He completely bossed midfield, and his range of passes seems to have improved.
I also though he was unlucky to be sent off, but at least it gave a chance to show off his t-shirt.

We've done this plenty of times but the story I got from someone who knew the family was that the mom and dad followed Villa and Blues, I forget which was which, craig followed villa and gary blues. If that's true saying you are a blues fan when you are not is criminally insane and rather than be resigned, he should be sent to Rampton

Seriously now, does it matter who he supports?  Does it really matter that he once said he was a villa fan but then came out of the closet and said he was a blues fan all along?  We all know football players are not the  brightest people on this planet and a number of them have proved this over the years.

Personally, I dont believe any of them are Villa fans and that they all support blues but I couldn't careless as long as they (well, not Craig anymore) do the business for AVFC.

I've lost count now of the number of articles and interviews I've read about GG where he says he's a Villa fan.  I read an article last week that said half the Gardner boys support Villa, the other half Blues.  At the end of the day it doesn't matter and I am pretty sure they all have a good, healthy respect for both clubs.  Craig and Gary doing the business for Villa would be a win-win for all concerned I reckon.

...Just to add, if either of them happened to be gloryhunting followers of clubs from further afield my views would be a little different.  At least these lads are proud of their roots and support local football.  I've plenty of time for them for that too.

I don't dislike him. We got good money for him (at the time) and you've got to respect him for wanting first team football.

However he's obviously thick as shit. He lied about his allegiances and just makes him look even more stupid.

I wouldn't have him back, he's extremely limited and a regressive footballer. But if he was here he wouldn't be the first one I'd get rid of, if that makes sense.

Guthrie is far, far better than Gosling FYI.

Bannan in a 5 man midfield actually playing in the centre is one of our best players. He'll make it under a good manager that knows how teams are actually meant to pass the ball rather than kick and run.

Bannan didn't really impress under gh either and he was all for passing football. I've been really disappointed with Bannan this year
