Here's a fact for you Dave - unless anyone can prove me wrong.

I'm not sure about the ones pre-1960 but since then I don't think any manager has left Villa and then come back to Villa Park with a different club and beat us.
My initial thoughts were Joe Mercer in the 1972 Charity Shield but having checked I found out that Malcolm Allison had taken over as manager by then. We always did well against Tommy Docherty's United at home, and the same with Ron Saunders' Blues teams. Graham Taylor came back with Watford in between his two spells here and lost 4-0 but got a fantastic reception, and Ron Atkinson came back with Coventry with no success.

Long may it continue.

Manchester United 1975-76 League Cup? It's an interesting one though; thanks.

I can't think of one, More than anything it shows that managers rarely do well after they leave here.

Some of them are allowed out and pass the message on to the rest.

Whenever one comes out with the top team in the Midlands crap I just say "welcome to our world of the last 3 decades".
