Title: Alex McLeish is not the worst villa Manager ever!!!!!!!!
Post by: Londonvilla on April 17, 2012, 02:42:02 PM
Alex McLeish is not the worst villa Manager ever!!!!!!!!

Is Alex McLeish the worst Villa manager ever? Forget the stats which show that he has a win percentage of only 24%, the factors to be used in order to judge the worst villa manager ever are

•   entertainment levels, ability to play attractive football
•   hope of winning the league or getting into the champions league places
•   hopes of winning the league cup
•   hopes of winning the FA Cup
•   ability to identify good players and bring out the best in them
•   left the team and the club in a better position than he found it

If you look at this list then my top five worst Villa managers of all time would be

1)   David O'Leary – this man must never be allowed to work again he is a disgrace, a total disgrace

2)   Alex McLeish – this man has avoided the top spot as he has blooded large numbers of players who have come from our Academy and time will hopefully prove that this season was not a total waste  (McLeish out)

3)   Billy McNeill – could someone explain what the hell those 41 matches were all about great player, rubbish manager

4)   Martin O'Neill – spent £130 million recouped £30 million, took our wage bill close to 90% of turnover when it should have been closer to 65%, brought players he didn't play, sold Gary Cahill (yes that old chestnut is back) and brought in Zat Knight, brought in Heskey, walked out of the club weeks before the start of the season, then successfully sued the club for compensation even though he walked out. Great motivator/coach, poor manager of a football club.

5)   Jozef Vengloš – the Villa had exotic foreign managers’ years before it was fashionable to do so. Unfortunately Chelsea got José Mourinho and we got Dr Jo

Looking at the list I am very tempted to move Martin O'Neill higher in this league table because for two seasons running we were the third highest spenders in Europe in terms of transfer fees yet like Oliver Twist all he wanted was more.

Is my list about right or should I be moving Martin O'Neill higher up the list of the worst Villa managers of all time?

Another McLeish thread. Couldn't this be in one of the other 93?

As a manager, McLeish is worse than O'Leary.  McLeish has only blooded the youngsters because he's had to due to injuries and reduced transfer money.

Excluding those prior to the 1980s, the worst Villa managers were:

1. McNeill
2. McLeish
3. Turner
4. Venglos
5. O'Leary

The Best:

1. Saunders
2. Barton
3. Taylor (1st spell)
4. Atkinson
5. Little

I don't like O'Pubehead, but comparing him with McRetch is a bit rich, we wouldn't be as low as we are if he was still here.

According to the win% stats - McLeish is our second worst manager ever (after McNeill).  If we fail to win another game this season, he will have the worst win% of any Villa manager ever.

Correction, it was 5 days before the start of the season.  You are being too nice by saying weeks

Oh good, another thread about McLeish.

I’m starting to think people on this site don’t like him very much.

I think MON, DOL and McLeish should have a love child and let it run the Villa in 25 years time.
