To separate this one from the other threads, PWS's idea for applause after 19 minutes is a great one. Facebook, twitter, other sites, tell everyone you know at the match. Spread the word.
-
I'll set up a Facebook group page, anyone got a suggestion for a title?

Make it simple PW. Something easy to find like "Stan Petrov 19 minute"
-
Aston Villa Stiliyan "Stan" Petrov 19th minute
Will that do?
-
And if you are not already going, come down, lets fill the ground and show Stan what we think of him.
-
"Applause for Petrov" would be a fine enough title.

Done as best I know how to. FB, Twitter and my old 'Blog.
-
I retweeted Legion's post. If we all retweet it, it'll pick up pace.
-
Great idea.
-
i think it will be a tremendous idea!
-
This might be a good time to have a coming together of the various fan sites. We have our differences, but there should unity on this topic. This is a great idea and it should shared with other fans too.
-
Done my bit on facebook we all should be posting
-
This should be the group. Unfortunately FB is being silly buggers and it keeps lagging right now, probably because it's a new group.

Try creating a Page aswell.
-
Took me long enough to work out how to do a group!
-
Pages are easier. Plus joining is automatic.
-
I can't even find the option to make a page?
-
https://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php
-
I think it will be hard to get people to wait that long, someone give a cheer for me as I can't be there.
-
Without it appearing contrived is there any way the club can help promote this on the OS.
-
I'll ask.
-
The problem is that online supporters are a tiny proportion of the support as a whole, and the vast majority of people will have no idea this is supposed to happen.
-
That's why we need people to be vocal on the way in. If you shout it loudly in your section before kick off or before you go in the ground, people will know and join in.
That and twitter is a very powerful medium, thousands of people already know.
-
Just posted this on cfcuk
Friendly Villa fan here hope your mods don not mind me posting this
Has you are most likely where stan petrov has been diagnosed with leukaemia on the 19th minute of tomorrows game Villa fans are planing a minutes applause and we hope any Chelsea fan attending the game would join in.

-
It has.

I was going to suggest we applauded continuously from kick off until 19th minute but on reflection it's probably not practical.

Hopefully the noise and support for Stan as well as the team will be continual. I just thought it would be nice to do it specifically on the 19th minute.

Hello Lee
Thanks for the email.
Absolutely 100% happy to support. Obviously everyone is devastated. it's things like this that bring the villa family even closer together. I know Stan is very aware of the get well wishes and may even be at the game tomorrow.
Will get on this now and start to promote.
Thanks Russell

Well done Peter and Legion. Good stuff. I wish I could be there to show my support,

Stan
Is the extra man
Is the extra man
Is the extra ma - an
just a suggestion

More:
Will also get a message on the PA prior to the game and brief the fan squad so they can let fans know as they enter the stadium.
-
Great idea PWS.
Both DW's OP and PWS's further post at the head of P3 refer to 'after 19 minutes'. However, the OS refers to 'in the 19th minute'. Which is it to be?

Let's see what happens.
-
My thoughts were it should start 19:00 into the game.
-
Just tried to join the FB group and couldn't. Then I noticed that Leeg had already added me in earlier.
-
Living in Australia, I have just woken to this shocking news.
The applause in the 19th minute is a fantastic idea, hope the Chelsea fans join in. During the rest of the game I hope all the singing is about Stan. What about a rendition of You'll Never Walk Alone, I know its associated with Liverpool but its also a Celtic anthem, think it would mean a lot to Stan to here the fans of his current club signing the anthem of his old club for him. Scarfs aloft signing load would be fantastic
Maybe a few Celtic scarfs in the crowd too, I have no allegiance to Celtic just think its a nice way to show support for Stan
-
It's a lovely idea and very fitting.
-
If you aren't sure what to do, and when tomorrow, don't worry. Just follow me or someone sat near you.
-
Good work Lee, Dave and PWS. Will continue to tweet the details periodically.
-
Great idea. I will join in from my sofa - I know it's not the same but I am pretty sure I will be emotional watching it on TV.

Me too, also down under.
Will be with you all in spirit.
-
It's just been announced on sky news so hopefully they will keep that on the loop till more people wake up to see it.
Stilliyan Petrov's claret and blue army is a good suggestion from another site. I remember other versions of that lasting a whole half years ago.
-
I was and still an shocked about this news. I too shall be watching from my sofa down under. Let's hope it unites everybody and we all pull together and get behind our skipper.
-
Yes great idea.
Stiliyan Petrov in profile: From burger van to Aston Villa's captain
By Mike Henson
BBC Sport
When Martin O'Neill took charge of Aston Villa in August 2006, his first move in the transfer market was to recruit Stiliyan Petrov, a player he had worked with at previous club Celtic.
The Bulgarian, then 27, had developed into one of the most influential players in the Scottish game, winning four league championships in his seven seasons at the club.
Despite a slow start in the Premier League, his ceaseless industry garnered the respect of his team-mates and was rewarded with a steady improvement in his form.
When it was announced on Friday that he had been diagnosed with acute leukaemia, he had become the captain of Alex McLeish's Villa side and one of the club's, and league's, most consistent performers.
WHAT IS LEUKAEMIA?
Leukaemia is cancer of the white blood cells. Symptoms include pale skin, tiredness, breathlessness and susceptibility to infection. Acute leukaemia means the condition progresses aggressively and needs immediate treatment.
On average 2,500 adults are diagnosed with acute leukaemia in the UK each year, according to Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research
The midfielder's low-key qualities have also been valued by a series of international managers as he surpassed more extravagantly talented players such as Hristo Stoichkov and Dimitar Berbatov as his country's most capped player.
The first of his 106 caps came as a 19-year-old in March 1999, just as his performances for CSKA Sofia were attracting the attention of then Celtic boss John Barnes.
Petrov had broken into the first team of his hometown club Montana at the age of 15, but he initially found it hard to adjust to life in Scotland following a £2m move.
Such was his determination to learn English however that he took to working in a friend's burger van as a way to pick up the language and his fortunes turned as O'Neill deployed him in his more familiar central midfield role.
In addition to his four titles, Petrov won the Scottish Cup and League Cup three times apiece at Celtic and was part of the team beaten by Jose Mourinho's Porto in the 2003 Uefa Cup final, but he grew eager to test himself elsewhere.
-
I was confused about the timings. The 19th minute starts when the clock hits 18, so if we're applauding for the whole of the 19th minute it should be then.
-
Keep it simple, start when the clock display ticks to 19. It's the number that is relevant, 19 rather than nineteenth.
-
This is a brilliant idea and a lovely gesture of real significance and thought. 19 on the clock would be the best time, hopefully when the clock does show 19 it will come up big on the screen so all fans take their lead from it.
-
Fitting gesture.
I'm sure his team mates will somehow conspire to concede a goal whilst it's happening...
-
Kinda hoping the ball gets hoofed into a stand as the clock hits 19 minutes, it gets held for a minute wherever it lands and neither players or officials feel the need to look for it for at least sixty seconds (actually if a chelsea player hoofs it into row Z, all the better).
After a minutes ear bursting applause, we then do our best to replicate the kind of noise that used to have me clinging to my dad's trouser leg in awe and fear, when he first started taking me to games.
-
It will be good if players stopped the game and joined in? However don't want to see Terry initiating this.
-
It will be good if players stopped the game and joined in? However don't want to see Terry initiating this.
I don't care if he does, at least it will show a human side of him, as much of a git as he is, I can actually see him being the one that does make sure it all stops.
-
Great idea, but we should do it 19 minutes into EVERY game game, home and away, until Stan is clear of this. He needs our support throughout. I'm sure opposition fans would join in too.
-
Im hoping Heskey scores in the19th minute . That would make my season .
Seeing it for the first time on the news last night , with pictures of stan and other players talking about it , hit me hard and the tears rolled down my face.
Get well soon Stan the man.
-
Would love to see Stan lead the team out today.
We could then sing his name then on 19min a minutes applause.
-
It would be good to keep any booing down as well, regardless of the performance, as shit as we are this season this puts things into perspective
Get well soon Stan, kick its ass
-
5Live have just mentioned the applause for Petrov on the sports news.
-
5Live have just mentioned the applause for Petrov on the sports news.
Yes, heard it too. It's another way of spreading the news for the non-internet users.
-
Get well soon Stan. It's a beatable disease these days. I would post a picture of a young man Stan's age who overcame the illness in his teens. I would bar two reasons. I don't know how to post pictures and the picture I have of him is in a Man U shirt.
-
Good work guys, would like to be there but have been struck down with something far less serious but nonetheless something I wouldn't want to share with 35000 fellow fans!
I'll be listening though, so I expect you to be very, very loud okay.
-
Fingers crossed the word has spread enough and folks will have heard or pick up whats going on. I think it helped that the official Villa Facebook page mentioned it again today.
-
Is there a song we can sing for him?
-
"There's Only One Petrov" to the "There's Only One Keano" tune I reckon. It's not actually true, but it's easy to sing and we never minded that there are loads of Keanes!
-
Yeah, I was thinking that'd probably be the easiest.
How about, "We love you Petrov, we do"?
-
Stiliyan Petrov's Claret and Blue Army.
-
Yeah, I was thinking that'd probably be the easiest.
How about, "We love you Petrov, we do"?
Too cheesy / sentimental.
We just need to get behind them today - especially the young ones.
And remind Chelsea about lack of Euro success!
-
I don't think we need to worry about over sentimentality.
-
Without it appearing contrived is there any way the club can help promote this on the OS.

Here's an audio clip the club released on their Facebook page of the 19th minute applause. We really did Stan, and ourselves proud with this.

His speech before the game was also fantastic.

And to Legion for getting it spread so far.
Indeed, i've thanked him many times but again, thanks for all you did Leeg. And also everyone who helped spread the word. I hope we all did Stan proud today.

It came across really well on TV. Great job everyone.

Celtic are now doing the same thing in their home game tomorrow, clicky (http://www.celticfc.net/newsstory?item=2411).
-
Didn't realise that this had come from you guys so well done, and a sense a pride that it comes from a family I'm kind of part of.I doff my cap to you all.
I've just seen the BBC website and the Martin Petrov interview is very moving. You should watch it.
You know I may be slightly out of the loop but I only really heard about this late last night/this morning. Yesterday afternoon I was thinking of our player of the season and I was saying to myself that it would be Stan except that he's been off the boil for a month or so. No I know why.
Get better soon Stan. Your illness now could see us go down you selfish sod! But Christ, get better soon.
-
Most organised things turn out to be a damp squib but this was absolutely brilliant. It just shows what can be done where there is a will.
-
I agree with everything said re the efforts to organise this applause. Very moving and thoroughly appropriate too.
Thanks to Chelsea too for their players wearing those t shirts before the game and to their fans in joining in the applause.
Good luck Stan. An under rated player and seemingly a really decent man.
-
Celtic are now doing the same thing in their home game tomorrow, clicky (http://www.celticfc.net/newsstory?item=2411).
Blimey, have you ever seen a more focussed 11 than the Celtic players on this link? Don't know who they were playing but I wouldn't have wanted to be them.
-
That was brilliant. Kudos to PWS for initiating this.
And to Legion for getting it spread so far.
Indeed, well done chaps.
Well done, its something to be very proud of.
-
I thnk we should do it every 19 minutes for the rest of the season.
19, 38, 57, 76 - if we can cope with the maths!
We could do with the inspiration!
If we get 5 mins injury time we can do a fifth!
-
What did stan say before the game? Was he on the pitch?
-
i heard Stan the man actually wanted to play . top man
-
I couldn't make yesterdays game for personal reasons but the minutes applause was superb and obviously meant a great deal to Stan.
It's going to be a long hard fight for him and it'd be great to see us supporting him all the way by repeating the 19th minute applause at every match untill he's beaten this.
-
Excellent show of support for the 19 minutes applause.
Made me very proud.
-
Here you go. Impressive stuff.
Magnificent effort - goose bumps and moist eyes after watching that!
-
Was great to be part of it yesterday and have got goosebumps just watching the Celtic fans do the same. Well done to Celtic it was a really nice touch.
-
Surprisingly, Celtic did it in the 19th minutes (ie 18.00-18.59) rather than from 19 minutes onwards.
Splitters!
-
Does anyone have a pic of the 'Support Stan' message that we had on the screen? I'll whack it on as my facebook pic I think

The Trinity have always been splitters. Why I can remember when the Holte End was clapping and singing, the Trinity would sing and stamp their feet instead.

Absolutely.

Great tribute from the celtic fans and nice to see neil lennon joining in the clapping unlike our manager who stood arms folded .

It was offensive when Percy accused me of it so maybe you could offer the same attitude to Percy?
You are equally as rude and obnoxious, remind me of a Marxist.

The point of this thread is to support stan petrov- please can people get back to that and forget any religious or political notion as this is not the time or place for such opinions.

was watching the match online, and to be honest, it came across on the TV loud n clear... when the picture zoomed to stan, was fully choked to see him stand and acknowledge the fans....
well done to all that promoted this on the net....
get well soon Stan.

I don't appreciate being accussed of sending bullets in the post or being some sort of sectarian bigot.
If I challenge such ignorant comments I come under fire from several other posters.
Is that the rules of the board?
Apologies for going off topic all but this bullying needs addressing.

Again, good luck Stan in the fight ahead but I have faith he will beat this dreadful illness.
-
Everyone at Villa Park really did themselves, the club and Stan proud. It really was amazing thing to see.
Well done to all concerned for organising.
-
I've just read in the Evening Mail that the club are bringing out a 'Get Well Stan' T Shirt.
It'll be on sale in the club shops on Wednesday with all proceeds going to a charity of Stan's choice.
BUY BUY BUY.
-
Excellent effort from both Villa and Celtic fans.
Get well soon Stan the man.

Its just a shame that 'the correct' thread for replying in that way was one where the topic was of a friendly match being organised in order to raise money for charity.

Yes and we agreed that Bulgaria would be welcome but it highly unlikely.
