Injured Aston Villa defender Richard Dunne is linking up with NFL side the Cleveland Browns as he bids to return to action by the end of April.
Dunne is keen to make a comeback from a broken collarbone before the end of the season to bolster his chances of being fully fit for the Republic of Ireland's Euro 2012 campaign.
He is flying out to America to continue his rehabilitation with Cleveland, who are owned by Villa chairman Randy Lerner.
Dunne said: "Because of the nature of American football, Cleveland have a lot of experience in dealing with this kind of injury.
"Any help I can get will be much appreciated. It will also be a great experience and I think it will be a good week.
"I'm hoping when I come back I'll be sorted and can push on with things and start training again."
Dunne added: "Hopefully I can be back before the end of April, that is the aim.
"But I'll just have to listen to the doctors here at Villa and see what is actually possible. I trust their judgement and will follow whatever they say."
Dunne suffered the setback in last month's home Barclays Premier League clash with his former club Manchester City

As we all know, the portions of food are fucking massive in the States, so this doesn't bode well.
-
This will come back to haunt us when he sacks Given when he's just about to launch a throw out to the wing.
-
I don't want him back. However, I did have a fiver on him scoring more goals than own goals in the league this season a fair while back, so wouldn't mind if he returned to score!
-
Don't you just get the impression he's going to walk back into the side once he's fit even though we've been much better without him

Made me laugh..

One way ticket I hope!
-
He'll be wolfing down a 32oz steak before we know it.
-
I wish I hadn't just read 'First' as 'Fist'
*shudder*
-
They'll have to have him shipped over in one of these, the fat fuck.

A little Tony Sopranoism there. Quality.

There is an obvious gag about forging a new career as a wide receiver, but I thought better of it.

Well, it's unlikely he'll get a job as a Tight End
-
We just have to face it we are a really backward country when it comes to treating a broken collarbone. I am amazed that there isn't a Cleveland Browns induction marquee at all the National Hunt race meetings.
-
The irony is not lost on The Guardian's Fiver:
"Richard Dunne will continue his rehabilitation from collarbone-ouch with Randy Lerner's Cleveland Browns, an NFL club in America, where they serve really huge burgers with chips, which has nothing to do with Richard Dunne."
-
Anyone know where I can buy shares in American Pie?
-
I love huge burgers. I don't love Richard Dunne.
