Title: I Just did the BBC League Predictor thingy and....
Post by: Smoke on February 29, 2012, 06:03:13 PM
I had us finishing 16th.

Oh and that was with us not winning a single point for the rest of the season.

Well it made me feel a bit better about things!

Alex Mcleishes Claret an.... Nope still can't do it.

We would be relegated if we didn't pick up another point this season!

No chance you'd stay up on 29 points, two of the teams below us would get 30 + points.

Without doing the thing, I think we'll finish on 44 points and 13th.

I did it and had us winning the league.

Admittedly 19 clubs went into administration and a lot of them got docked more than 10 points on the grounds they are twats, but still.
We're gonna win the league!

Providing we don't gain a single point from the remaining 12 games then yes! but does anyone honestly think that's possible? has it even ever happened before?

Not to tempt fate, but should it come down to it, losing to Sunderland in late April could put the final nail in the coffin. MON could send us down.

(we'll stay up)

Sunderland, Swindon and Derby must have come close considering how few points they went down with.

We'll pull in about 10-12 points and be fine.

Tbf it's all been doom and gloom on here and VT recently and for good season as this season has been well and truly shite but....

All those thinking that we're going to go on a massive losing streak now, I was trying to think when we've had a run this season when we've lost 3-4 in a row. Can't think of one, I assume Xmas when we had that hard run but after losing to Arsenal and Liverpool, we drew at Stoke and won at Chelsea.

So not sure why people are fearing we're all of a sudden just going to lose 4-5 in a row.

Just looking at these fixtures and I didn't realise what a difficult run in we had.

The Arsenal-Chelsea-Liverpool-Stoke and then Manchester Utd, tagged on at the end Spurs, by the time we hit Norwich at the end we could be worn out.

We are worse now than at any point though Soccer, you must see that. If Petrov does not make the Blackburn game and we lose it for whatever reason, we should be shitting ourselves. Bottom clubs always spurt at the end of the season. Urgency hits them and they galvanise. Apart from Blues last season, who from now sank like a stone with more points than we have now and a couple of significant injuries, just like... oh us. To not be a little concerned is mightily naive.

Spot on, there was me thinking, probably lose this, the only consequence of that is we continue to bumble along with yet more pressure on the manager, not so, we lose to Blackburn and we are in the crapper well and truly, in fact I would go as far as to say we need 3 from this, Bolton and Fulham giving us 9 pts, doubt we would get anything of Stoke and, Sunderland, that's going to be like a cup final, common sense tells you the other games are teams fighting tooth and nail for Champions League and pride.

Lose to Blackburn and we could be on a slippery slope, what a mess to get in for a team like Villa.

I'd say things are on a par with pre December with the infamous Spurs game with Hutton and Heskey in midfield, then we went to Swansea and play for a 0-0 and we raised the white flag at home to Manure. Game after that we beat Bolton away.

Infact I'd say 4 points on its own from the Bolton and Blackburn games would keep us up even if we lost every other game this season.

Easy start has to mean difficult run-in, by definition.

22 points on Dec 31, 29 on Feb 29, 40 is the target & Villa are always poor in March.....

We really really should not have had to put up with this kind of crap for so many years, excl MON plus Ellis sabbatical years.

15th on 36, but 6 points behind fulham in 14th.

wigan wolves and qpr relegated - bolton surviving on 30 points.  I may have been harsh to the bottom 4 but they are all really poor, can only see blackburn rallying to anything from the current bottom 5.

city 1 point ahead of utd as champions.

Not just you chap but when people do these prediction thingys (wink) they usually pretty much give the title chasing teams maximum points and the bottom teams hardly any points. Safe to say it won't turn out like that, they'll be some shock results in the run in as there always is, who knows we might scrape a point against a top 8 team!

Man. City will probably win the league but it will probably be lower tally than 97 points.

I think we'll beat Bolton and draw against Chelsea, Stoke, Fulham, Norwich and Sunderland. Finish on around 38 points.  In most other seasons that might be enough to see us relegated.  I'm sure Faulkner will agree that this is an excellent performance as we just about stay up!!

15th on 35 points. This was being exceptionally harsh by saying we are only going to beat Bolton at home, draw with Stoke at home and draw with Norwich away on the last day.

I think and hope we are safe, looking at the teams in the bottom five, they all have to play each other and have some very hard home away fixtures against the top 6 / 7 teams. It appears from the fixtures although we have a really tough run we maybe OK due to others being worse rather than anything we do over and above between now and the end of the season.

If however we finish with 7 wins for the season and one win at home from November to May, McLeish should be frog marched out of Villa Park and paraded round the city centre as a shining example of how not to manage a premier league team.

As I've said previously, one surprising statistic in this dire season is the amount of games we've actually lost in a row stands at two. Whereas in seasons when we were going for 4th under MON, I think we lost 4 in a row a couple of times.

That's not to defend the tripe we're watching or the manager at all but does show in amongst the defeats, we can still pick up draws and the occasional win which the 5 below can't.

It is March, you know.

I'm more dreading April tbh.

Hopefully we'll be safe by then but back to back away at Liverpool and Manure, MON returning and away to WBA will probably finish me off for good.

The trouble with this team is that they are all a bit "meh".

We haven't the consistency to put a run of anything together. Because of the talent in the squad we will pick up points frequently but because of the tactics, and can't be arsedness of some our players, we won't pick up a run of wins either.

We will be comfortably safe this year as I have been saying for some time but we need to see some green shoots in the summer.

Win our next two and we will be all but safe...even a win and  draw and a few scarmabled draws afterwards would probably do. The way the bottom 5 are performing I can see 37 points being safe...
Next season however is a whole new ball game...down unless drastic changes are made (and I don't mean the kit Randy).

15th with 40 points.

Man City 1st
Man Utd 2nd
Spurs 3rd
Arsenal 4th

Wolves 18th - 30 Points.
QPR 19th
Wigan 20th

can't be right, that's too few points to be relegated with.

Going with a mate to wolves this weekend as he's got a free ticket going. Going I the away end with the 30 or so Blackburn fans. Should be interesting. Think the draw is best as it keeps more teams away from us although a wolves defeat will leave them adrift a little.

I've got us staying up on Goal Difference. That's without us playing another game this season.

1st Man City - 97
2nd Man Utd - 83
3rd Tottenham - 73
4th Chelsea - 66

15th Bolton - 34
16th Blackburn - 34
17th Villa - 30
18th QPR - 30
19th Wolves - 29
20th Wigan - 28

You've got to have us losing every game - then we'd probably lose out on goal difference.
