After seeing the pictures & article on Sir Chris Hoy leg pressing 5 reps of 631Kgs (Thats 7 of me, or a fully grown cow) I thought a thread on amazing feats of physical prowess wouldn't go amiss.
So with Sir Chris, I'll also throw in another elite cyclist, Miguel Indurain who's resting heart rate was an astonishing 28 BPM (normal at rest range c60-72BPM)
No statistics just astonishing/amazing physical capabilities allowed. That should rule out most American sports guff.

I don't think that's fair though John, for example:
Chris Johnson is not just blisteringly fast, he's football fast. His 4.24-second 40 is the fastest official time in NFL history. And, just so you get an idea of how exactly how fast that is, Johnson would've been ahead of Usain Bolt at the 40-yard mark when Bolt set the World Record in the 100-meter race at the 2008 Olympics.
-
OK that's allowed but no 'he can hit a rounders ball, sorry baseball 400 yards' shite.
-
Leg presses are for girls.
-
Oh dear... 631kg... Erm I as a moderately average triathlete can do 80, must be all that porridge and haggis that Hoy gets through.
Do they still show 'Worlds strongest man' on Channel 4/5..... Them blokes who pulled the bus and then put them heavy stones on block.... grrrrrr they is hard!
-
I'm sure you could do more than 80kg, wombat.
-

Yeah, hitting a ball thrown at you at 100mph from just 60 feet away must be so easy
-
Ah, you like cricket then sox.
-
I could do the Hoy thing, but the leg weights at my gym only goes up to 100kg ;O)
-
Pffft, I could bench press that girl Hoy while he was doing the leg presses.
I couldn't however hit a 100mph fastball.

It can't be that difficult if girls manage it.
*wink*

I do it every teatime. In summer, of course.

No staying power then :)

Physical "prowess"? .................... Greg Oden................ 'nuff said !
-
Greg Oden? Missed 279 games of a possible 361, they shoot horses for less than that.

Oden's "prowess" has nothing to do with his ability to play basketball
I'll add Wilt Chamberlain as well, for his dedication to non-basketball conquests

How about Red Rum?
Was it 3 Grand National wins and 2 seconds in 5 years?
-
How about Brian Jacks doing his dips on Superstars? 100 in a minute.
Or Duncan McKenzie jumping over a mini and chucking a golf ball the length of a football pitch. Proper iron man stuff
They're all drugged-up puffs nowadays, sportsmen

And Kevin Keegan coming off his racer wearing only a vest... ouch!
-
Anyone that has gone right through the Beep Test, 23 levels!!
Beckham was rumoured to be one of them but it's unconfirmed. In fact they say it's unlikely anyone has done the whole 23 levels. 17 levels is probably the tops...which Seb Coe did (years ago).
Lots of Aussie Rules footballers are up to level 17 as well..
-
Beckam shagging Posh, now that takes a man...
-
When teaching A Level PE we discuss this sort of thing; I go for CB Fry (cricket / athlete / rugby player / nutter) and my favourite Ed Moses (undefeated for 122 races!).

The marathon runners that complete it in 2 hours always astounds me...I've run it and can't fathom how they keep that pace up. Incredible stamina.
