I like what they've done there.

Twitter isn't for everyone, but I really like it and I've never liked any other social network like Facebook etc.

As much as I welcome the idea of breaking down the barrier between players and fans, I'm always concerned that one of them's gonna say something stupid and embarrass the club.

But since Super Marc got twitter I reckon my respect for him as a person's gone up, he seems to genuinely enjoy playing for the Villa, and also comes across as quiet humble, and grateful for the luck he has to be working in such a trade.

Agreed. I.E. Joey bleedin' Barton. Leaving his other baggage aside, if I was a QPR fan I'd cringe almost every time he tweets.

Most people are dull.  99% of footballers are dull. I really don't understand twitter or facebook for that matter because you're just finding out about how dull people spend their lives. Do people find celebrities that interesting? A Mate of mine was rushed into hospital with pneumonia the other day and he locked down his facebook and twitter sites and i thought well nearly dying is a bit more interesting than pictures of his bird and the dog and his views on john terry losing the england captaincy.  Perhaps if he'd have kept on-line during the doctor's diagnosis via his phone he would have doubled his followers and have a few more celebrity friends ( though i heard Kate Lawler was concerned). Obviously this will appeal to some dullards who find other slightly more famous dullards interesting, but for the rest of us.

meh.

I would have no idea how to actually use twitter. It is interesting to see how ordinary our players appear to be in comparison to quotes from the Barton's and other simpleton footballers on the twitter site. I'd rather they won a game though-our players that is!!

I think if our players are going to spend time tapping away at a computer to give fans a tour through the thoughts processes of their brain, they should be doing it through the medium of an internet fanzine site. Perhaps a fanzine site with a reputation for having an intellectual, erudite, educated and well informed group of supporters.

Is it just me that finds Twitter incredibly difficult to follow? All these hash tags, retweets and the general layout I find it really difficult to see who's actually written the message.

Facebook isn't perfect with its data protection issues and the hideous timeline they're bringing in but I find it much more easier to read and navigate.

The thing I don't understand about twitter ( as I don't do it) is you can go on there and see people making contact with there favorite celeb or chart busting pop star, and the star answers back, for example look at Lady Gaga on twitter and you can actually see her engaged in banter with the public, I just can't believe that, stars of this magnitude and wealth must have an army of people in this pseudo role answering these punters and making them feel part of the whole machine.

Or is it really the celeb, somebody tell me because if it is then I'm of to twitter to tell Kelly Clarkson if she's ever over this way I know where there's a seriously good length going.

It differs.. Some famous people use their own twitter. Others are like "The Official Twitter of.." and often manned by some one else.

You can usually tell. The ones manned by someone always seem very formal. Obviously you never know, but all real accounts end up with a verified tick normally.

who?

I agree that Twitter is not always user friendly and can be confusing but it's a great medium for getting information on topics that you're interested in.  I'm researching starting a business and through twitter I am able to discover information that I would never find normally.

I guess that I'm stating the obvious, but if you're only use it to feel closer to celebrities and footballers then the chances are you're not going to get that much back from it.

It appears to me that if you want to get yourself into trouble with your employer then Facebook and twitter are a decent medium to make this happen.

Having said that, some of the comedy that the Fat Sam character has tweeted as seen posted on here is very funny.  But I still couldn't be bothered to be one of his followers or follow anybody else for that matter.

@lowendbehold
Thing about Twitter is it can occasionally be very funny and sometimes reveal what a personality lets slip about how they really feel.
So someone has just registered @anfieldcat and said "in my 3 minute cameo I ran past more players than Downing has all season"
While we all know what N'Zogbia thought about being subbed.  Silly sod, will regret that for a long time.
After the Newcastle game, Ken McNaught commented on AM's remark about not cutting out crosses, that neither of our full backs are PL players, they haven't cut out a cross all season.  I think Ken was a bit off script there.  But its interesting to know that from someone who knows what hes talking about.

Hutton is particularly poor in this regard. Against Wolves repeatedly in the second half crosses came in from his side. second goal at Newcastle he had to block that ball coming in and was in a good position to do so.

Warnock is so inept at every facet of defending that I don't particularly notice it from his side but have no doubt McNaught is correct there too.

Shaun Teale really doesn't rate the Villa full backs either.

He's been scathing of our defensive unit, and particularly the full backs all season. He's right of course but people like McLeish will always have the comeback of him never managing at anywhere near his level, more by luck in my opinion.

Bump for this...so, me and another H&V user have been taken on by a new website called Pickourteam.com. We post opinion and match reports, but we also have a Twitter feed. It's @pickastonvilla, and not to get ultra competitive or anything, but we have 50 followers and spurs have 400 odd...

I guess a lot of you don't really use it but it's a useful way of getting redirects to the site and y'know, it's a laugh when you're taunting deluded Newcastle fans. So if you have an account, do me and a fellow Villain a favour and retweet us so we get loads more followers.

If that's not your thing, you can check out our stuff on the site itself. It's pickourteam.com/premierleague/aston-villa . The usp is that you can pick and rate everything to do with villa (including the ref) and we put all the villa news and gossip in one place. The guy who set it up writes for the guardian and stuff, so it has some weight behind it too. If you have a minute, see what you think.
