Bye Habib.................
-
Beat me to it. Decent bloke but never really made his mark.
-
Finally. The Aston Villa "Clearance Sale" has begun. :)
-
No idea why he never got given more of a chance.
Apart from one out-of-position abberation against Vienna I don't recall him making too many mistakes.
And it's not as if we're been spoilt for choice for great players in the positions that he plays over the last couple of years.
Best of luck to him.
-
I sort of agree with Dave as in the few games he played for us in the prem he was decent against some good opposition...Spurs, Chelsea and Liverpool away he did nothing wrong.
I thought he's just become a symbol of MON's tenure...why sign a 32 year old on 40k a week when we already had Luke Young at the club and MON then decided he was just going to play Carlos at RB for most of the season anyway.
-
And now we have Mr. Hutton.
-
Is he definitely worse than Hutton and Warnock?
-

Quite.
For a quarter of that wage we could have picked Walker up from Sheffield Utd at around the same time.
-
What a waste.

Now that is depressing.

well MON . GH and AMC were not convinced , even thou I think they are no experts .
-
I was one of the rare few on here who did'nt think he was that bad, well not shockingly bad anyway.
-
Well MON brought him in and didn't then use him, last season GH and now McLeish have not given him much of a chance. There must be something in this. If he was worse than Warnock or Hutton he must have looked terrible on the training ground.
-
About time....
-
so how much did he cost us in the end after his 15 games
-
Waste of space.
-
Bye, bye Beye, Beye,
Beye, Beye, goodbye.
-
I can only assume he must have been banging every manager and coaches wife as the reason he was never picked. Not the greatest player but I can only think of the Vienna game where he was a bit shit. The other times I saw him he looked ok, certainly worth more chances than he was given. Should have been a decent (if expensive) signing, instead was a waste of money.
Good luck Habib, and my last memory of you was that great run against the might of Hereford.
-
Looking like he'll go to Doncaster permanently: http://t.co/SME4YFVd
-
From Matt Kendrick:
I once apologised to Houllier after hearing a story of mine had upset Beye. Gerard replied: "Don't worry about it, he's a f***** anyway!"
-
Beat me to it. Decent bloke but never really made his mark.
I'm struggling to think of anything that points to him being a decent bloke if I'm honest Lee.

Well he never once complained about having to sit at home doing fuck all whilst we paid forty clap a week into his bank account, jolly good egg in my book.
-
Taking time to talk to kids and other fans outside the ground. Being approachable after a match when asked for an autograph. Little things like that. Unlike certain other Billy Big-Bollocks players that have moved on.

I'm surprised he had the bare faced cheek to be honest. And who on earth wants a Beye autograph anyway? Although a match-worn shirt might fetch a few quid on eBay for its rarity value.
-
I was in corporate facilities the day he signed, shook hands with him and said 'welcome to Aston Villa'. I should have kicked him in the bollocks.
-
no tears here and some more dough off the books. With Hutton, McLeish wanted an attacking full back. Maybe his memory is clouded or Hutton has really regressed, but even he couldn't have imagined Hutton being such a liability defensively.
-
I wonder how much his pay off was, on top of everything else he has taken out of the club.
That said, I'd rather him in the team than the useless c unt Hutton.
-

I doubt it's money off the books, we'll have to have paid up his contract.
-
Even if he's left by 'mutual consent'?
-
yes, we will have 'mutually agreed' his pay off
-

I'm pretty sure McLeish was never going to conisder him, I'm sure he was given a remit to be rid of him.
Maybe he wasn't that bad, I certainly remember him playing well in the away to Liverpool 3-1 win, but he became the ultimate symbol of the latter part of MONs era, along with Sidwell, and therefore we have long given up on him and wanted him off the books, as he was a barrier to getting someone else in. I'm sure in a couple of days with a bit of H&V revisionism he'll be seen as a potential world beater that could have been the saviour to all our defensive woes!
-
That'll make our bank balance look better!
-
He will have taken a small pay off for a bit of his wages if it is mutual.
-

I very much doubt it. Why would he?

So Doncaster can sign him without a fee maybe? Small fry either way.

doen't mutual conset mean came to some agreement? Yes, they'll still be on the hook for a good deal of it, but probably not the full amount.

You seem to have a massive vitriol against Beye Risso? Is it his fault that MON "Seth Johnsoned" him? As most have mentioned, apart from one game out of position against Rapid (with Curtis as his supporting Central Defender) he never played badly for us although he also never ripped up trees either.
I can't understand the managers reluctances to play him. Did he say something to Houllier 20 years ago from the crowd during a French game? Was McCleish ordered never to play him? Did he once make fun of MON before training? Whatever the reason it is no excuse for not playing him ahead of Hutton or Cueller in some games over the last few years.

Nah. It means they'll have paid his contract off as there's absolutely no point in having him round the place. Why would he accept a pay out when he could have just sat tight for the next 5 months and earned it all anyway? "Mutual agreement" only means a reduced amount in cases like Martin O'Neill's where there's legal action involved.
-
His lithe, incisive movement off the ball reminded me of a fence-post, or bollard

Because now he can go somewhere else and earn more.
-
well thats the last departure of MON's defensive signings who couldn't get a game. hopefully we'll start on the ones that can soon.
-
He is a waste of money, but I can't understand why he is not used as we waste more money getting in Walker on Loan, and buying Hutton. Can't be sure if he is crap or not.
-
What a fooking waste of money, Heskey next hopefully
-
Good luck Habib Beye. i was one of the few that thought he was not that bad.
Better than Hutton.
-
So that's about 125 weeks of pay for 15 starts and 3 sub appearances, and a penalty given away against wet spam (the only game I can remember him starting). At 25k+ a week....wicked. The club was in good hands, I pity Sunderland.
-
Well at least Sunderland fans can look forward to a dynamic Heskey Davies partnership next season!

Why are we only doing it now then instead of back in August when it was clear he didn't have a future here?
-
He will have taken less, as much as Risso protests. Mutual consent means he has met us halfway, or even less of the 6 months he has left. So we will have saved some, and he can get a longer contract now.
-
What a gigantic waste of fucking money.
What kind of idiot gives a 32 year old defender a 3 year contract on 40k a week?

If he played him most weeks and he was putting in pre Newcastle injury performances, it would have been better. But for someone who is given only 15 appearances over that time and who most associated with cover for a problematic position when signed, it is atrocious. As I said earlier, he was Seth Johnsoned by MON and Randy by association.

I've been told by a certain H&V poster that McLeish has negotiated Beye's severance pay to be our transfer budget for the summer and renaming Villa Park to The McLeish Sty. Ooh McLeish you rotter. When will you morons listen!

A wage massively out of line with his talent.
I think the urban myth went that Seth and his agent had decided to ask Leeds for 10k a week, when they went in Ridsdale offered them 25 (or pick a number) and when he saw the look of surprise on their faces immediately said 'OK, you win, 35!!'
-
Ta, I thought it was something like that. I know Seth and I know he was on a huge sum of money. I have not heard that though about him going in for only 10k. If so what a result!
-
Found this, basic jist was there or thereabouts.
Went to a wedding on Saturday and was speaking to Mike Jackson [Preson], Kieron Durkan [Wrexham] and Chris Lightfoot [Runcorn, Former PFA Rep]. We were talking about Leeds, and they were saying that when Seth Johnson went into the boardroom to discuss his contract, him and his agent went in saying "Ask for £20,000, settle for £15,000." So they went in, and they were offered £25,000. "WHAT?" Seth Johnson replied, obviously shocked at how good the deal is. Then Ridsdale replied, "Ok then, £35,000" Thinking Johnson was unhappy at the terms.

Ooh, I know the answer to this one; it was Martin O'Neill and I claim my prize! Ha!
-
As an aside when we played Derby a few years ago he got on the No7 back to town with his Derby tracksuit on. He was sound.
-
Sorry, what do you mean by Seth Johnsoned?
Others have answered but this version from the Grauniad is telling as all Risdale denies is what the final salary ended up as, not that he started the negotiations with a higher offer then they expected.
It wasn't just Seth Johnson's wages that really shed some light on Peter Ridsdale's time in charge of Leeds. It was bill for the goldfish. Johnson joined from Derby County in 2001. The midfielder had earned a basic wage of around £5,000 a week at Derby and his agent was determined to winkle £13,000 from the then Leeds chairman.
Ridsdale, though, had other ideas. Entering the negotiating room he is said to have declared: "Right I'm sorry, I can only offer you £30,000 a week." Sizing up the situation with commendable speed, the agent shook his head in apparent disbelief and said: "No".
Ridsdale allegedly responded by saying "Oh, alright then, £37,000." However, Risdale denies this and subsequently said: "We gave Seth Johnson £10,000 less than has been rumoured."
-
I pity Sunderland.
Will Sunderland give MON the free reign he got at Villa?
-
Thank God for that!
-
Have never understood why he has never really been given a chance at Villa. Not a great player but certainly no worse than some of the clowns we have playing in defence at the moment.Good luck to him.
-

In a stupid way, this will be the test of Randy. MON is clearly a good motivator and organiser (ignore the scouting and, ...well imagination), MON will get the best out of most of his players. Sunderland is not too disimilar to us and of given some cash YET managed properly Sunderland could be who we want to be. The key variable is Randy and his failure to manage MON.
My bet is they'll improve but never get above 7th.
-
Thanks, cracking stories about Seth if true, I'll have to ask him next time he's visiting his family down here. He was bloody brilliant as a kid by the way. You could always see he was a different class to everyone else his age.
-

Hope so. It will bring about his demise quicker.
-
I blame MON for everything. Wanker. ;-)

I tend to agree, worse than Hutton?? I doubt it...
-
so glad this pile of shit has left our club. Shocking number of appearences too!
-
As soon as Mon got the chance to sign players he went for Bridge & Davies, I do not pity Sunderland in fact I can't wait to LAUGH at them
-
I'm prepared to give Hutton a while i think. He's come into a shit defence and he seemed to get carried away to start off with his tackling. He's never going to be great but if he cuts out the horrific fouls he could do a job for now.
-
Haven't read the full thread, so apologies if this has already been asked and answered, but have we paid up his contract or managed to save any money by him leaving early?
-
Long live Habib Beye a decent player bought by a manager who never used him enough. How many times have we heard this before.
-
Haven't read the full thread, so apologies if this has already been asked and answered, but have we paid up his contract or managed to save any money by him leaving early?
Probably not. Looks like we've just paid up his remaining contract or possibly we've agreed to pay him what he's owed minus what he's getting from doncaster for the rest of the season so mebbe 2k a week saving till May? yay!
-

I was listening to the radio yesterday , the mind washed media were going on about MON , wanking about the pubes on his head and Arsenal fans were even saying why didnt we get MON in and Wenger out . My blood was just boiling .
-
I'm just glad we have got him off the wage bill if we are not playing him it was money down the drain.

Look at the results since he's gone there and how they've climbed the table. That's why they speak of him in such glowing terms.

Boiling? I'd have been pissing myself laughing. Can you imagine MON with the Arsenal players?
As for Beye, a player that has no self respect, a player that preferred to pick up his £40k a week rather than play football in the latter years of his career. He and his kind won't be missed.
-
We've had a couple of these over the years... Hassan Kachloul... £40k a week for three years... now Beye.
What a waste of money. How bad must he be though...
-
To add a measure of balance, because deals like this are easy sticks to bash the current board with, every club has skeletons like this. Be they transfer fees that were stupidly high, or wages, or lengths of contract. We are not the only ones to offer deals that in the light of day look completely crazy. Let's not get too carried away even if quite clearly a number of deals done in the last few years were terrible.

I was going to say. I'd bloody love it if Arsenal did get MON in!
