Title: F1 2012
Post by: Jon Crofts on January 17, 2012, 07:11:52 PM
Not long now 'til the season opener.

Senna gets the Williams seat vacated by Barrachello, Team Lotus become Caterham F1 (vested interest being a Caterham owner)
Kubica breaks his leg again so won't get a drive in 2012.
New venue USA in Austin at the Americas Raceway & possibly 2 USA races the following season with a New Jersey street circuit along the banks of The Hudson. (vested interest 2 miles from my NY office)

Expect Hamilton to come back strong in the new McLaren along with JB & of course the box head Vettel.

But last & by no means least the return of Kimi Raikkonen, lets hope his interviews are as entertaining as this one.

I cannot wait for the season to start mainly because i will be watching it on Sky sports which i think will make the experience so much better than the Bloated Broadcasting Corporation.
As for the season well i think its going to be a cracker with all the world champions on the grid and the new designs of the car. For me the one to watch will be Button but i think Senna at Williams makes a really good mix.
Lets not forget Di Resta had a great season and will surely kick on from there.

Meh. Glorified follow-the-leader.
I love the politics and the technology, but the racing leaves me cold.

The racing has got a whole lot better under the new rules re refuelling & tyre choice, it's a hell of a lot closer now, the battles in midfield are great.

So, have McLaren got it right, or totally dropped a bollock with this stupidly ugly nose design. Their car looks the best but will the vent on the red bull nose actually be the one to copy?

And the new exhaust placements should be interesting to see if anyone tries something a bit naughty.

The nose design is pretty much across the board, I saw Caterham testing in Jerez last week, man that front end looks a right dogs breakfast, but form follows function, it aint no beauty pageant out there.

Been in New Jersey & New York all week, Monday night I was in NJ in the area of where the US GP will be, venue is just amazing for a treet race, with the Manhattan skyline, Empire State as the backdrop, you can keep Monaco for street racing, New Jersey is where its gonna be.

Is it this season or next John for the New Jersey race? And is the texas one on the calendar this season?

New York skyline with F1 at dusk would be brilliant.

Looks like despite the lack of the platypus nose McLaren should be competitive with Red Bull.

If they can build it in time,we might be looking at a Donnington.

After all that money spent on Silverstone? 2 brittish races would be good. Valencia needs to be got rid of for it being a boring one!

No chance of Donnington, I race there a couple of times a year, they've run out of money, in fact they never had the money in the first place plus Silverstone & the BRDC have got a 10 year deal for F1 at Silverstone.

Just watched a bit of the new F1 channel on skysports. Looks really good and loads of info on the cars and changes for this season. Reckon it will be much tighter this year.

Still predict Vettel to win it with the Mclarens a close second.

Well i'm up, I can't remember there being so much uncertainty around everybody's true pace.

Just watched Q1, very exciting so far.

Good to see a Mclaren front row. Thought the Mercedes looked quick as well. Looking forward to tomorrow morning.

Wow, no red bull on the front row! Or second, how different that is. Not sure how much the mercedes f duct/ drs feature will hinder them in the race though, if it is worth a bit of time per lap not being able to have the flap open the whole time might give them some problems. Would expect Newey will have the red bull back at the front by the time the season hits Europe though, probably before.

Nice to see the only car without the fugly nose 1 and 2 on the grid though, shows there is another way re the design, and makes a bit of a mockery of the way red bull were throwing towells and running out with screens to cover the car after the updates in Barcelona.

Can't believe how bad Massa was yesterday. Not sure whether it's down to the car, but he seems to have lost something! Probably down to his accident a few years ago.

McLaren messed it up today. Ferrari got one over them in the rain tyre pit stop. Always hate it when that F1 version of Suarez wins.

Perez should have won it, and although he was only 4th at the time I loved seeing vettel getting a puncture and finishing out of the points.

really enjoyed the F1 yesterday, its always more intresting when it starts raining during the race. Perez was really unlucky not to win in the end and its nice to see Vettel aint going to win every race!

Thought Perez was given a very clear message not to beat Alonso in fairness. McLaren fecked up badly though.

I am no fan of F1 but respect others views that they enjoy it. That said using sport to support and validate a corrupt, unpopular, undemocratic regime with a poor human rights record. Shame on ecclestone and shame on formula one. Also don't get me started on the environmental impact.

I've got more enjoyment out of the races so far than I have over the entire of Villa's season. It used to be a bit like the Premier league with just two teams challenging, but in F1 this year I think there is four of five teams who could win it.

Don't worry, they will be using 1.6l engines in 2014 (ignoring the 30 planes flying all the equipment around the globe of course).

As an aside, I went to a supplier customer day at the Williams F1 Conference Centre today with a complimentary tour of the Museum with compulsory exit through the shop. If anyone wants a wheel rim, yours for £100.

I see the stewards have had Hamilton again. Any other driver I reckon they would have opted for the 5 grid places for today, but McLaren and Hamilton - back of the grid son. Really pisses me off with F1 at times.

Hmmm, the Spanish stewards bumping Alonso up a place, and coming down like a ton of bricks on their bete noire - who'd have thunk it?

It's kind of spoiled the race for me now, but hopefully Maldonado goes on to get a long-awaited win for Williams.

Same here, Hamilton did a stunning job to be .7 of a second in front of everyone else, and clearly has switched the car on completely, and could have been in prime position to win, even if they bumped him the standard 5 grid places. I hope Maldonado wins it for Frank Williams' 70th and Alonso end up out on about the 3rd lap just to upset the home fans.

Great result for Williams today.  One of the strangest seasons i've witnessed, seems like anyone can win a race provided they get near the front in qualifying.

I should think Hamilton is fuming with McLaren, that's twice they've short fuelled him & he's paid a heavy price for it.
His contracts up at the end of the season, this cant help negotiations & it wouldn't surprise me to see him take Massa's seat at Ferrari for 2013.

Unless Red Bull make some serious mistakes in their strategy then Vettel already has this in the bag.

He pretty much had all the breaks. Hamilton's fucked up pit stop, Vettel's car trouble and a safety car. He would have been lucky to get 5th without the last one although fair plays for jumping up the field at the restart.

Generally or today?
Today Hamilton was overtaken by Lotus driver Grosjaen in a pure race situation. Good to see Lotus emerging again.
Button was driving somewhere in Northamptonshire for most of the race!

The Mclaren looks poor compared to Ferrari, red bull and lotus, just hasn't got the pace in the corners.  Made a big mistake with the tyres today as well.

Lewis Hamilton is on the verge of leaving McLaren to drive for Mercedes next season, according to BBC F1 chief analyst Eddie Jordan.

The former team boss says Hamilton will replace Michael Schumacher, who will retire from driving for a second time at the end of the year.

"I believe Hamilton and Mercedes have already agreed personal terms and a deal could be imminent," Jordan said.

The only way Hamilton will win any more titles is by ditching that fucking leech of a girlfriend Nicole Skirtschwinger or whatever her stupid name is.  About time he woke up & smelt the coffee or got an advisor or whatever they call themselves to advise him that she's a leech & needs ditching pronto.

I might change my mind on this move having now read the engine rules for 2014 Season, well not all of them but anyhow.
This could be a very shrewd move by Hamilton, he will be back of the middle order next year for sure but 2014 he stands a damn good chance.  Still needs to ditch the bitch though.

Brilliant driving yesterday by Hamilton.  And a terrific pass on Vettel who immediately started blubbing.  Shame he is not in the championship due to bad luck, I think he has driven as well as ever in his career.  Hope the Merc signing is similar to Schuey to Ferrari in 96.

I have no interest in F1 whatsoever but my brother has been collating memories from various people involved in motorsport and there are some great stories on here. I've never heard of most of the people but i'm sure those of you with an interest will have!

Anyway, feel free to add a memory, it's all for a brilliant cause.
