The Australian Open started today, so it's Maria time again
(http://www.mariakirilenko.com/wp-content/gallery/sydney-january-2012/kirilenko-sydney-150112-4.jpg)
Various media outlets are saying that Maria is currently dating Washington Capitals Ice Hockey player Alexander Ovechkin.
That's an easy error to make; I'm often mistaken for him ;)
-
What is with the wonky boob?
-
Good to see the Brits did well on day 1!
-
What is with the wonky boob?
I guess that I overdid Maria's pre tournament stretching
-
Safely through to Round 2
(http://www.mariakirilenko.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Kirilenko-311211-355.jpg)
-
Maria could be in trouble in Round 2. She's one set all against Aleksandra Wozniak (that's the Canadian player, not Rory McIlroy's girlfriend).
EDIT - Maria Redsox is through to Round 3
PS - So's that miserable Scottish bloke
-
She's out. Six-love, one-love, gave up couldn't be arsed.

She's out. Six-love, one-love, gave up couldn't be arsed.
I'll give her a severe talking to when she gets back.........well, after a long relaxing massage.

Surprisingly the tournament continues post-Maria
Here's a really freaky way to watch the matches courtesy of ESPN

Its almost like watching a flashy version of "Pong"

Andy Murray is Scottish again!

Brave brave ....... loser

Quite enjoyed watching that - it was weird
-
murray did real well, if he continues to be coached by llendl i can see a major success. attacked real well apart from 4th set. thought it was great tennis
-
Thrilling final between Joker and Nadal. How they had the energy is beyond me, especially Djokovic who played a 5 hour game in the semis with 1 day less rest. Unbelievable stuff.
-

I think he will be a slightly better nearly man like Tim. Henman had to live with Sampras and then got surpassed by Federer when Pete retired. The dour scotsman has Federer and Nadal ahead of him and Djokovic surpassing him.
-
proud of andy murray today.
the french crowd booed him onto the court, he was playing one of theirs richard gasquet, and got booed relentlessly through the match.
they departed during the then whipping their man got from murray and when won gave it them big time!
i do love to see the french get well and truly owned!!
-
Epic QF going on at the moment between Djokovic and Charles N'Zog's cousin.
-
The 5th set was a bit of an anti climax but a great game nontheless
-
Was looking forward to settling down to watch the rest of the final this morning, but don't think ITV are even showing it. Any idea whats going on anyone?
-
7th French open for Rafa, he aint bad on clay is he.

David Nalbandian gets a little bit stressed (http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/tennis/18479244)

Never seen that happen before.

petulance at its greatest!

What a plonker

David Nalbandian gets a little bit stressed (http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/tennis/18479244)
I don't understand how he hasn't been roundly condemned for that.
He assaults a line judge, drawing blood; blames the ATP at the end of the game whilst failing to apologise to the line judge or his opponent; and from the majority I've heard in the press, most commentators appear to be trying to make excuses for him - one guy on Radio 5 accused the line judge of play acting!!! Am I missing something?
He should be banned from Wimbledon for that. It's disgraceful.
-
I'm with Ad@m on this. Disgraceful and yet some seem to think he was harshly treated by not being allowed to finish the final. Life ban, fuck him.
-
He was rightly kicked out of the match but a life ban or being kicked out of Wimbledon? Really?
Bloody hell, it was a bit of frustration at losing a point, he didn't mean to injure the line judge. Very often we see players smash a racket or fire a ball into orbit after a bad point, both of which could easily injure someone if they were unlucky.
-
A lack of intent when you're negligently reckless is no defence. He may not have intended to injure the line judge but it was obvious that if he kicked the panel with that much force he'd follow through in to the line judges leg.
The guy's clearly a dick.

I am with you mate, someone tried to justify it to me today by saying well they should have made the wooden panels tougher ???????

No, he was clearly very frustrated and took it out on the nearest object, in this case an advertising hoarding. Ever played sport? Never got annoyed whilst playing sport? If the line judge hadn't have inadvertently got in the way it would have been a code violation and at the most a one game penalty.
Did someone say life ban?!

Inadvertently got in the way? The judge didn't move from his chair.
Yes I did. Partly because he seems to think he shouldn't even have been disqualified. Mainly because I am sick of petulant sportsmen ans women.
-
Petulance (or maybe passion?) is part of the game. Take the passion out of sport and you lose a lot of the appeal. He has since apologised, and he was rightly chucked out of the match, personally that's punishment enough for me. He doesn't have a history of this sort of thing anyway, it was a one-off strop.
-
You can have passion without violence. What happened to self control?
I still havent seen an apology from him - just him ranting at the ATP. And as for form, he's renowned for throwing his racket around on court and earlier this year he threw a bottle of water over a drugs tester.
A life ban would be over the top but I think to just lose the current match for violent assault is nowhere near punishment enough.

I have no problem at all with passion in any sport, annoys the feck out of me how players can't celebrate goals with fans for example. However, there is a massive difference between passion and throwing a strop and injuring someone. By banning them for life it would probably stop anyone else doing it and potentially injuring someone else. I also look at the extreme scenario in cases like this, what if the hoarding had broken up and blinded the fella for example.
Must admit if I had my way i'd clamp down massively on a lot of things in sport, simply to make it a deterrent. A lot of it stems from Keane getting away with that challenge. Not saying my way is right but it's how i'd do it.
And I'm not a big tennis fan so wouldn't have a clue if he has any previous, although Ad@m's post seems to suggest he does.
-
If his actions resulted in somebody being injured - which they did - then he's disqualified. End of, not a life ban or how will he learn to behave differently?
He didn't directly attack the line judge with his racquet. He was just acting like a complete plonker.

I come on this thread expecting to see young lovelies like Maria Kirilenko only to find you all talking about a men's tennis match.
For shame.

Sorry, I was away when the French Open was on. Therefore, I was unable to provide the expected level of Maria coverage.
Maria Redsox was knocked out in the first round, so here's a classic 2009 pic to cheer us all up.

OH, and congrats to the other Maria on winning

Lisicki and Ivanovic bot on court now - yum! :P

Safely through to round three
-
What a performance by Rosol to put out Nadal.
-
Nadal out !!!! Bloody hell, What a game of tennis.
-
Judging by what I saw of the game in the first couple of sets Nadal was lucky to get as far as he did, he was awful by his standards. Rosol playing the game of his life, fair play to him.
-
I know very little about tennis, but I know that's one hell of a bloody result! Flicked over after the football just in time for the conclusion.
-
Rosol was awesome. If that's how he always plays, he'll be a star. Never seen Nadal destroyed like he was in the fifth set before. I think his last 3 service games were all love games.
-

He doesn't usually play anywhere near that! That's why he's outside the top 100 and had lost in the first qualifying round in the last five years at Wimbledon.
Probably a one-off - but what a one-off.
-
Maria Redsox is due to play Sorana Cirstea today

Must make Murray the 2nd favourite to Djokovic now, as he was in Nadal's half of the draw.
-
Federer is struggling as well at the moment.
-
oh good.
(like Benneteau)
-
Federer takes it to a 5th set. I wonder if the other fella has blown his chance.
-
Not with his extravagant use of towels on the baseline.
-
Too many towels. Congrats Fed!
-
Nevermind all this talk of the demise of Nadel and the survival of Federer, the main attraction is through to Round 4
(http://www2.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/Maria+Kirilenko+Championships+Wimbledon+2012+AXNjz_nMf5pl.jpg)
-
The BBC don't seem to give her much tv coverage.
I see Rosol went out. So much for a star being born. How someone can play as well as he did the other night and be crap the rest of the time is beyond me.

Golden
Shower Set at Wimbledon
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/tennis/18658685
Yaroslava Shvedova makes Grand Slam history by winning a 'golden set' against Sara Errani at Wimbledon - taking a set without conceding a point.
The world number 65 won 24 consecutive points in the first set as she defeated French Open runner-up and 10th seed Errani, hitting 14 winners in the process.
Shvedova went on to win the match 6-0, 6-4 to book her place in the fourth round.
-
The commentators are getting on my nerves keep banging on about how unfair it is that the match will have to stop at 11pm. They don't seem to realise that London Underground/Buses etc won't keep their services running all night just so poor old McEnroe doesn't have to spend a day not sure who is going to win. People have to get home. It's not "health and safety gawn mad", it's just common sense.
-
Only in England.
-
And after all that... Murray wins at two minutes past eleven!
I couldn't help hoping that they would force them to leave court at match point just to hear the commentators combust.
-
Wombles hierarchy now getting criticised for not fixing the court assignments in favour of ol' grumpy pants.
-
Quite right. I can't imagine the Americans, Aussies and French would always make their star play last and on the rubbish court.
-
Today is when the glorious run of Maria Redsox probably comes to an end against third seed Agnieszka Radwanska.
In lesser tennis news, Grumpy Pants is through to the Quarter Finals
-
Her game is on TV for once as well. And annoyingly she's a screamer.
-
Maria's doing very well. Shame about the sodding weather.
-
As predicted, Maria has been knocked out, so that's Wimbledon over for another year

Goodbye sweet Maria.
-
have you heard this azarenko arsehole with her incessant wailing. i would ram my fist down her throat annoying twat!

Now that they have a roof, why didn't they play the Women's semis in the evening ?
-
Now that they have a roof, why didn't they play the Women's semis in the evening ?
There's a women's semi / Serena Williams joke in here somewhere.

Andy Murray will win the mens single title this year, definate. This will not be redirected to the "Lies Thread"
Hopefully.

Andy Murray @ 4pm = British
Andy Murray @ 8pm = Scottish
C'mon Jo-Willie

Oops, that's Joe-Willie
-
He should have enough to beat Tssonga, but will probably lose to Djokovicin the Final
-
and wimbledon is the only place where some twat shouts some innane bollocks and the crowd 'titter'. like the wanker who just shouted, "i love you Roger" and everyone 'tittered'.
someone smack him hard in the nose!
-
Come on Tiger Tim, you can do it!
-
This is some match, Federer is turning the screw a bit.
-
Come on Tiger Tim, you can do it!
Play up Bunny old chap
-
Looking good for Federer at the moment.
Edit: And he's through. Expecting Murray to lose.
-
Roger's through.
-
Roger's through.
Novak fell apart there
-
Murray looking early. My prediction was going to be he'll win the first set, then lose the next 2 and look well beaten, before rallying to take the 4th and lose 7-5 in the fifth.
-
Good to see my hot streak of great predictions is carrying on from the Euro's! Murray 2-0 up.
-
Well done Murray.
-
Well done that man. First British Wimbledon finallist since 1564. BC.
-
Great effort, but if Federer plays like he did today Murray's in trouble.
-
Not a big tennis fan but i've always enjoyed Wimbledon. After growing up in the days when it was considered an achievement if the likes of Andrew Castle, Jeremy Bates, Andrew Foster and so on reached round 3 it seems weird finally having a Brit in the final.
Maybe it should be filed under Things you can't believe happened in your lifetime ...
-
not a great tennis fan and don't particularly like Murray, but credit where it is due, this is a great achievement and with Federer the "weakest" of the three players above him in the World Top 4 I doubt he'll ever get a better opportunity.
-

Federer might be 'on paper' the weakest of the top three, but he is by far the best player on grass, it will be a phenomenal achievement for Murray to win.
Oh, and I've never got this hatred towards Murray. Why? Yes he's a 'dour Scot' and he once jokingly said that he would support anyone but England in some football game, but he is supremely talented and possibly about to make history.
I hope he comprehensively stuffs Federer.
-
Come on Federererer.Really do not like Murray and couldn't give two shits where he is from.He seems to me to be a good tennis player but every interview I have seen he has given I want to punch him in his face.
-
Ok, someone's got to say it.
New balls please...........

The commentator on the Beeb said at the start of the next game "Murray to serve, but no new balls" which amused McEnroe.
-

Yep, I want Fed to win as well.
The nationality of a player (or a team for that matter) is irrelevant to me in deciding whether I want them to win.
-
C'mon you Scottish, Paraguay shirt wearing-British twat. Federer has won enough.
-
Fuck all you cynics, come on Andy.
-
Fuck all you cynics, come on Andy.
i am with you plum! i want every team in the world to beat scotland at football but i remember alan wells running for britain and wanting him to win.
-
C'mon you Scottish, Paraguay shirt wearing-British twat. Federer has won enough.
The Paraguay shirt thing never happened. The story was made up by the Sun and has since been taken down.
The story came from a throwaway comment in response to a journo jokingly asking him 'So Andy are you going to be supporting Scotland in the World Cup [2006]?'. He responded 'Anyone but England ha-ha'.
Come on Andy!
-
Come on Murray and Marray!
-
Fuck all you cynics, come on Andy.
Hear hear.
He's still going to lose mind but I'm supporting him all the way.
-
Well done to the lovely Serena. Xxxxxxx
-
can't wait until the williams sisters retire, 2 very average players who've dominated the womens game purely by being bigger and stronger than the rest (and using that to create an service game that is unplayable at its best). I can't fault them, they're very good at what they do, but it's not very interesting to watch. The mens game went through a phase of being dominated by those players until federer came along, and it was very very dull because of it.
-
I wish they'd ban this tradition of the winner going up to the box.
-
Well done to Williams but the commentary was so biased. It was all Serena this Serena that and no or very little mention of Radwanska.
-
I wish they'd ban this tradition of the winner going up to the box.
Miserable sod!
Well done Serena.
Fingers crossed for Murray too...hes going to need to bring his best game and have luck on his side tomorrow.

"Very average"? Come on, behave yourself! I'm not keen on them but you can't call them average, they're two of the greatest female players of all time.

I genuinely don't think they are, they both make far more unforced errors than any of the other top female players, and they both look lost for ideas once a rally goes beyond 7-8 shots s their game is based on totally overpowering opponents. Check the error count for today, Serena won comfortably but made well over twice as many errors. They both play to win on first serve and win on return on the opponents 2nd serve, these are the 2 key points where power becomes valuable. As said, I don't think they're poor players, but their success and rankings are based on a very cynical gameplan and training regime which is focused on bullying their way through. Their accuracy and range of shots are a long way behind the other top players in the women's tour.
Fundamentally I think it will be bad for the game if it becomes full of hard-hitting power players, as mentioned it happened to mens tennis in the 90s with Sampras and a raft of other big serving power players (rusedski, phillipousis, ivanisevic, etc) all getting to finals and winning tournaments. It was only when Federer came through (probably the greatest male player of all time) that being a great technician became important again, and now we're seeing the value of that with all the quality at the top of the mens game leading to some truly great matches. Can anyone say todays match will go down as a classic final? Then compare it to the federer/djokovic semi which is one of the best matches I've ever seen.
-
Well done Marray and Nielsen.
-
Well done Marray and Nielsen.
Just found out about this. First time in 76 years that a British man has won the Men's Doubles @ Wimbledon.
The best thing about Marray winning is that now, if Ol' Grumpy Pants does win tomorrow, he'll just be the first British bloke to win a Men's title at Wimbledon in the past day rather than the past 70 odd years !
-
I hope Murray wins, he might even smile if he does, but reckon it will be Federer 3-1.
-
Broken him in the first game..it may not get any better than this.
-
Broken him in the first game..it may not get any better than this.
Ha that's what I thought as well, being positively British as usual!
-
And Federer breaks back.
-
Federer will win. He has the best first name ;)
-
And Murray takes the first set.
-
Well done Murray. He has been resilient so far.
-
I can't remember if I've ever seen a bloke win a set without winning a single service game to 0 or 15 before. He's havingto work bloody hard. If he can just start getting his first serves in though, you never know.
-

Yeah it'll be a struggle unless he starts winning easy games. Looks like he'll be broken here.
-
It's surprising he won the first set with only 58% first serves.
-
Playing very well so far, Federer is making him work hard on his service games and he's showing a lot of character to win the important points.
-
Murray's having to do more running than Enoch Powell at a Nation of Islam meeting. His best bet might be that it rains so he can get a bit of a breather while they put the roof on.
-
Federer looking a bit shaky at the moment.
-
Big service hold from Federer there.
-
Big hold again from Federer.
-
Federer wins second set, that might be trouble for Murray now.
-
This is a great great match, no idea who's going to win. Loving it.
-
What a cracking set. Murray had him on the ropes a few times in that set and never got the break. I wonder how costly it will prove.
-
Murray had plenty of chances to win that set. Needs to show a lot of character now. Especially as Federer has now turned up.
-
Murray needs to up his energy now, he's looking a bit down.
-
Murray's looking tired.
-
Tide turned now, rain may well give Murray a chance to regroup unfortunately.
-
Rain delay may save him. But it also shows why he's disliked by so many. Why did he dawdle back to his bag, smacks of attitude.
-
Not really. He just didn't want to sprint off and waste energy. Nor did Federer.
-
Murray has to be aggressive and go for it if he's going to win.
-
Not really. He just didn't want to sprint off and waste energy. Nor did Federer.
Federer was off and walking to the changing rooms by the time they were pulling the covers across. They had to stop for Murray as he hadn't even reached his bag.
-
I wonder if having the roof closed will give either of them an advantage. Not being a big tennis fan I have no idea if it will or not.
-
The pundits seem to think it will slightly favour Federer. I reckon Murray is more in need of a break and a chat with his coach though so I reckon it favours Murray more.
-
Murray has to be aggressive and go for it if he's going to win.
He's been doing that for the first two sets.
-

Worse than Nadal always picking his arse between points?
-
Murray has to be aggressive and go for it if he's going to win.
He's been doing that for the first two sets.
Indeed, but it had dropped off a bit.
-
Federer is looking pretty handy now.
-
Seems to have lost some of the intensity since they came back out, Murray needs to make it a battle again.
-
Federer is going after Murray's second serve a lot. Murray's in trouble here.
-
Can't see Murray having the nous to carry this off. If Federer wins the third I don't think Murray will be able to respond.
-
Federer fully in the zone now.
-
Errors creeping in to Murray's game now and he's mentally losing it.
-
This set is vital, really can't see Murray coming from 2-1 down.
-
He's got to get his first serve in more.
-
Long way back now.
-
Think he's done now.
-
Murray has to break back straight away.
-
If I was Beckham's club I wouldn't let him galavant half-way across the World when he's suspended due to stupidity.
-
Murray looks physically and mentally gone, he needs something to happen.
-
Murray is badly struggling to close out his games.
-
His body language makes him look beaten,. He needs to sort that out as it must give Federer a lift to see his head keep going down.
-
The roof closing has massively helped Federer.
-
Third set Federer. Murray needs to find a spark from somewhere. Or hope Federer sprains his ankle.
-
The roof closing has massively helped Federer.
Murray looked to be going before that though. It's as though he lost something during that second set. He had Federer on the ropes a few times on Federer's serve and didn't manage to break.
-
It would be nice if Murray could get a piss-easy service game or two.If Fed breaks early in this set I reckon it's all over.
-
He's gone I think.
-
He's hanging in by his fingertips at the moment.
-
Yep although Federer's level has very very slightly dipped.
-
That is that.
-
Match over now I reckon.
-
Game over.
-
That's probably that. Murray may end up having nightmares about that second set for the rest of his life. If he'd won that... it probably would have given him the momentum to win the title.
-
He had in chance in that game, but missed it. Definitely over now.
-
Murray could have won seven or eight games on Federer's serve but has won only two. Federer has been way more clinical.
-
Well he's got at most 2 chances to save this.
-
All over this game I reckon. Federer won't need to serve again.
-
His first serve has been pish. Is that the pressure or just trying too hard or what?
-
He needs two breaks of serve, unlikely.
-

I think he went mentally after the way Federer won the second set.
-
He needs two breaks of serve, unlikely.
He only needs one to take it to a tie-breaker, but that still seems highly unlikely.

Murray has to work on his first serve for next year and then he may have a chance.
-
Fair play to him, he's somehow hanging in.
-
Have any of his lobs worked?
-
Well done anyway Murray. Still a fantastic achievement to get to the final (first Scot ever). You never know what might have happened if he'd won that second set.
-
Thats that then
-
Good effort, I feel sorry for Murray in virtually any other era he'd have won a few Grandslams.
-
I will be putting a few quid on Murray to win it next year.
-
Good effort, I feel sorry for Murray in virtually any other error he'd have won a few Grandslams.
I agree with that. He's still won less Grand Slams than his brother!
-
He was never really in it after that second set. Fair play to Federer, a true great and credit to Murray for getting this far.
-
It's always nice to see Scotland lose
-
Will Murray get another chance? Hopefully Djokovic will go off a bit. He looked unable to deal with Federer when put under pressure. Federer can't go on forever. That would just leave the glory-hunting, bum-picking, grunting twat to beat.
-
I hope Murray wins, he might even smile if he does, but reckon it will be Federer 3-1.
Maybe I should stick to tennis predictions in the future.
-
Just leave the bloke alone, does he really need to give an interview now?
-

He'll have other chances, this is his what 3rd or 4th Grand Slam final? I'm just not convinced he's quite got what it takes to be a champion. He has the talent but maybe that special something is missing?
I hope he does win one, it would be great for British tennis.
-
Just leave the bloke alone, does he really need to give an interview now?
It's quite emotional.
-
Just leave the bloke alone, does he really need to give an interview now?
In fairness they do it every year to the winner and loser, it's not as though they're picking on him. I remember the one year the women's loser was in bits.
-
I was surprised that a British man had never reached the Wimbledon finals in my lifetime until this year.
-
I didn't want him to cry about it, but strangely it seemed fitting that he did.
-
Bloody hell. Five pages on one tennis match.
Not only that, a men's tennis match.
This really is very un-H&V of you all.
I tried to watch but fell asleep. Only woke up to see the last couple of games.
-
He did as well as he could. He won a set and certainly would have done better had his % of first serves gone in. Maybe next year.
-
Just think of the massive outpouring of emotion when he comes back next year to win the mixed doubles with Kirilenko.
-
One thing that struck me watching on Chinese tv was how impartial the crowd seemed to be. When I was not in front of the tv it was impossible to tell from the sound who had won a point as the crowd seemed equally excited for both players.
I know it's not really the style of British tennis crowds but if they had been more partisan it may have helped Murray a little more, though Federer is unbelievable.
-
His chance came and went when he had break points in the second, but with Federer in that form, even if he'd gone 2 sets up I think it would have been case of could of won it rather than should of.
A friend of mine who knows far more about tennis than me always said Murray's grand slam chance would be at the Australian or the US Opens. So that may well be his one and only tilt at a Wimbledon final.
-
Amazing how federer can be the best, get overtaken but then re-invent himself and come back to win. Greatest of all time.
Murray no4 in world but needs to be able to beat one or two the top3 to win a slam. Not as good as fed but no shame in that.
-

Not sure he 're-invented' himself. He's always been a better grass court player than Djokovic so that wasn't that much of a surprise. Had Nadal not played that nutter having the game of his life then I doubt Murray would have got to the final, or Federer would have won it.
-
Meh, Nadal's won 7 of his 11 grand slams at Roland Garros.
Great competitor and champion but I find it very difficult to truly warm to him tbh.
-
Federer is a better player than Nadal.

Same with womens beach volleyball ?

It's an interesting point you make. Fed has lost, what 3 games, in 10 years at Wimbledon. To say nadal would have beaten him given how Fed played against Djokovic is a stretch in my opinion.
-
Good luck to Federer he has to dance with Serena tonight at the Championship dinner!

Purely based on the fact that Federer has some sort of mental block against Nadal that prevents him playing his natural game. He seems to think he has to go for the more difficult shot on every point and thus makes too many mistakes.
-
At least it wasn't Nadal who won, can't stand him
-
Well done Marray and Nielsen.
Just found out about this. First time in 76 years that a British man has won the Men's Doubles @ Wimbledon.
I can't believe how little attention this has received, it was fairytale stuff. Marray only asked Nielsen to partner him the week before and they entered on a wildcard. They had to beat 5 seeded teams to win, and beat the previous years champs, the Bryan brothers, in straight sets in the semi-final the day before.
An amazing achievement really, such a pity that it hasn't received the coverage it deserved. If you can be arsed, check out the match on iplayer (http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01kv8dj/Wimbledon_2012_BBC_Two_Day_12_Evening/).
-
The tennis fans can go back to flicking one of to Fifty Shades now...
-
I know he doesn't like the English but I felt a little bad for him after the game yesterday.
-
For the first time in 30 years I watched a tennis match from start to finish and what struck me was how the match seemed to be played entirely on the baseline which I found pretty boring. Maybe my memory is playing tricks but didn't Nastase, Ashe, Borg etc play up at the net a lot?
-
The other thing that struck me was the utterly moronic commentary from Andrew Castle, I thought Alan Partridge had returned to sports reporting. Dan Maskell must have been spinning.
-

To be fair Chris, that's a bit like coming on here and asking why the goalkeeper can't pick the ball up anymore from a backpass, or why the non-interfering player is not offised anymore even if he's hanging from the crossbar.
The game has totally changed - as have the balls and even the courts at wimbledon.
-
I know he doesn't like the English
Utter nonsense.

Yeah it was a great story. Britain is ironically quite strong with doubles players, Jamie Murray won mixed doubles at Wimbledon a few years ago so I never understood why in Davis Cup they always ask Andy Murray to play doubles when there are plenty of capable other players out there.
Anyway, the match was live on BBC1 on Saturday night so if you were in a position to watch it, you could.
-

Interesting point.
Some of the rallies were fantastic yesterday, particularly on set point in the 2nd set.
Got to say I'd rather watch that then players serving and volleying on every point which gets boring after a while.
-

Fair enough, remembered why I don't watch it any longer.
-
I think the turning point was that 20 minute game in the 3rd set which broke Murray...he looked dejected after losing that game physically and mentally.
-

To be fair, I think the standard is much better now than it was in the 90's with Sampras and Ivanisevic etc.. Those were three shot rallies at most. At least Federer can mix it up a little and play from anywhere in the court. Murray is more of a baseliner than Federer, but I quite enjoy the long rallies from there.
-

which if true is a major drawback in his game. the scoring in tennis is such that you need to be able to ride out the bumps in the road or a set and ultimately the match will drift away from you whilst you're still sulking.
-
A lack of intent when you're negligently reckless is no defence. He may not have intended to injure the line judge but it was obvious that if he kicked the panel with that much force he'd follow through in to the line judges leg.
The guy's clearly a dick.
Just quick note, I work with the line judge's neighbour & he's still waiting for an apology from Nalbandian.
-
Why, what did he do to the line judge's neighbour?
-
andy murray in the final of the US open today! i want him to win it, anyone else care if he does or not?
-
Not really.
-
Hope he wins it, but unless it's quite windy I can see Djokovic winning.
At least Djokovic isn't an annoying little rat-faced wanker like Nadal though.
-
Of course I want him to win. I quite like the bloke to be honest mainly because everyone seems to hate him.
I thought this was mildly amusing:
When Sir Sean Connery rolled with some jollity into Andy Murray's victory press conference at Flushing Meadows on Saturday night, unannounced and accompanied by Sir Alex Ferguson and the player's mother, Judy, there was a sense that Scotland's invasion of New York this year might be a very happy one. Murray, who lost to Roger Federer here four years ago, is through again to the final of a weather-bedevilled event that, for the fifth year in a row, will be decided on a Monday – against either the defending champion Novak Djokovic or David Ferrer, who led 5-2 when play was suspended because of a growling storm that enveloped the site.
The exchange, peppered by much lubricated laughter, went like this: Connery: "Excuse me for interrupting, but I just wanted to make a point. Where's Alex? [Applause]. I don't know where your mother is. Ah, there she is."
Murray: "Are you going to be around tomorrow?" Connery [deaf to the question]: "Come on, Judy. Judy, Judy, Judy." Murray [to his mum]: "You smell of wine." Judy [nodding at Ferguson]: "He made me have wine. He's just been telling me that Scotland invented the world." Ferguson: "Been coming here the last three years to New York, and I explained how Scotland invented the world; today we invented the wind."
Connery: "Today they conquered the world!" Ferguson: "Very good. Fantastic." Murray [beaming and bemused]: "See you after the match tomorrow." Ferguson: "Continue your interview … You know I don't talk to journalists."
And with that, the Caledonian sideshow was done, just the tonic Murray needed after a gruelling four-set win conducted in a minor gale.
-
I want him to win.
Hope he wins it, but unless it's quite windy I can see Djokovic winning.
At least Djokovic isn't an annoying little rat-faced wanker like Nadal though.
Very harsh on Nadal I think! I actually prefer him to Federer and Djokovic
-
Its times like this I wish I still had Sky. This should really be on the Beeb.
Ive got a feeling that at the 5th time of asking, Britains Andy Murray will do it.
-
Miss Croft wearing next to nothing again.
Thumbs up from me.
-

Nadal's a cheat. Whenever his opponent is on top he spends ages picking his arse in between shots to try to slow their momentum. He also grunts all the time to try put his opponents off.
Anyway, come on Andy! Breaks Erin Djokovic in the first game. 🇬🇧
-
Come on Djokovic.
Not sure who I hate more,Murray or his mother....both equally after careful consideration.
-
Murray's mom reminds me of Susan Kennedy out of Neighbours. Cracking rally a few games back.

Lucky you only said that in a quiet corner of H & V.

More like Mrs.Mangle or some such made up person who was never in neighbours,or she could have been because I never watched it.
Come on anyone other than Murray.
-
1st set Murray.
-
I'm not a tennis fan,but this is worth watching, nothing can go wrong now.
-
Keep it up Murray.
As an aside, is there nothing they can do to stifle the irritating squeak the court makes? It's like listening to a debate between Sweep and Emlyn Hughes.
-

Yes,play it on grass like God intended.
-
The limping has started.
-
If he's going to do, it's going to be the hard way.
-
2 sets up.I am now Scottish.
-
Murray's mom reminds me of Susan Kennedy out of Neighbours. Cracking rally a few games back.

I knew everyone on here liked Home and Away. Do it in 3 so I can go to bed!
-
It will be 3 sets to 2 and 15-13 final set.
-
This is pretty fucking special isn't it.
-
is it on normal tv anywhere?
-
This is pretty fucking special isn't it.
Got to agree and I don't watch tennis.
-
I decide to watch it on a stream and I tune in just as he sits down after being broken.
-
What a div. 2 up and he's gonna blow it.
-
He's missed one or two he could perhaps have put away, but the main reason for the fightback is that Djokovic is a fantastic player.
-
I actually worry for him if he loses this. What it could do to his self belief etc losing yet another final and this one after being 2-0 up could be long term.
-
Yup. Would really play on his mind if he loses this.
-
Damn stream i'm watching is out of sync. So I hear what happens before I see it. Which is annoying.
-
You're just waiting for him to hit the net in those rallies...and he does.
-
Damn stream i'm watching is out of sync. So I hear what happens before I see it. Which is annoying.
Turn the sound off!
-
But then I couldn't hear what was going on as I check in on here in another tab!
Found an in sync one now so all is good with the world.
-
You're just waiting for him to hit the net in those rallies...and he does.
And again.
-
That was a great bit of tennis.
-
You're just waiting for him to hit the net in those rallies...and he does.

That one could be costly.
-
That was a great bit of tennis.
And again.
-
Some great tennis in this match.
-
Nice to see the rent a jock's in the crowd.
-
Oh dear.
-
Murray could show our strikers how to hit the net.
-
If he can't win this one he never will win a major.
-
Get in!
-
Murray breaks first in the decider. You never know.
-
Murray looks so good when he uses the drop shot.
-
Just win your service games. Easy.
-
No reason to be hitting the net like that.
-
Well it wasn't easy but that will do. This is some match.
-
He can do this.
-
Come on Tiger Tim!
-
Murray's use of the review is shit.
-
Fuck me what a point
-
Streams keep going. Now on Canal+
-
Yes!
-
Loads have gone for me as well, i'm on about my 5th one so far.
Come on!!!!
-
COME ON SCOTLAND!
-
Is it not on live over there chaps? CBS have it live here, even suspended usual prime-time shows for it.
-
I could give you a top stream but I dont want a butt fucking off a mod.
-
I am not usually a big tennis fan but this is great. Hope Murray wins. And quickly, I need to go to bed.
-
Pissflaps. It's not over yet.
-
Surely he can't blow it now?!?!
-
Is it not on live over there chaps? CBS have it live here, even suspended usual prime-time shows for it.
It's on Sky here.
-
Surely he can't blow it now?!?!
This is Murray we are talking about.
-
The no stream links rule still applies i'm afraid.
-
Balls. Will he keep his bottle?
-
This game is crucial.
-
Win's his serve he wins.
-
Now that's more like it!
-
Now that's more like it!
Come on!
-
Exciting, innit?
-
Odds on he cries like a baby.
-
ONE MORE GAME!
-
Surely now
-
When he's won or lost?
Come on Murray!
Not normally into it like I am now. Only a few hours then up for work!
-
Has Sir Alex looked at his watch yet?
-
Get a room ya dirty bastard.
-
Murray's use of the review is shit.
*cough*
-
Yessssssssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Ok, you can go to bed now chaps!
-
Fuck me he's done it.Nice one Andy.
-
Get in!
Well done Murray. I bet he'd love to tell a load of people where to shove it.
-
Arise, Sir Andy.
-
That's going to put him in with a shout for Sports Personality. Olympic Gold, first Grand Slam winner since the 30's and a Wimbledon final.
-
Nice flowers.
-
I don't bloody believe it. Well fecking done lad.
-
I don't bloody believe it. Well fecking done lad.
Like!
:D:D:D
-
Only the yanks could get in how much he has won.
-
Like the way they show his bint instead of him lifting the trophy for the first time. Knobs.
-
I will be watching more tennis after tonight.
-
In most years he'd be SPOTY. This year lucky to make top 3.
-
Well done Murray, great effort.
-
Men play tennis ?!?
Who knew ?
-
In most years he'd be SPOTY. This year lucky to make top 3.
Winning a grand slam v winning SPOTY. I’m sure he’ll cope (winky thing).
It’s been an incredible year, Wiggins and Murray are the highlights for me with honourable mentions to Farah and Ennis.
-
Men play tennis ?!?
Who knew ?
Nearly as long as they've been playing Rounders.
-
Got to admit I wasn't even sure Djokovic was human after the last couple of times I'd seen him play.
-
Come on chaps.....round of applause for Heather Watson. The first female British tennis player to win a WTA title in 24 years.
Maybe things are looking up with Laura Robson and Heather both climbing rapidly up the rankings.
