Just listening to BBC Radio Bristol, talking to a Rovers Director who wouldn't deny that Gary Johnson, ex- Bristol City Manager, was a candidate to replace Paul Buckle. Ring any faint bells?

Hopefully Rovers won't make any (popular) appointment before the weekend as that may give them a boost, but the gasheads are still not happy so an early goal from us & they could get on the team's backs. 0-3 to Villa

Lets just get through and get our names in the next round with a strong team, Guzan, Hutton, Cuellar, Dunne, Stevens, Clark, Gardner, Ireland, Albrighton, N'zogbia, Bent, subs Marshall, Collins, Warnock, Bannan, Gabby. 1-2 Bent, Albrighton.

0-5 To my first team

Inclined to say without doubt a Villa win, however, I'm actually not that confident about that either.

After Swansea we need to put out our best possible side and make absolutely sure of this.

I was on Radio Bristol this morning (paper review on the breakfast programme) and I mentioned I was a Villa fan and an exiled Brummie.

I know lots of gasheads so I said I hope their recovery starts after one more defeat this weekend.

I might be biased (!) but I think I have played in better sides in Bristol than the current Rovers team. It has hardly captured the imagination of their fans which explains why it is still not a sellout - tickets available in three (home) parts of the ground - one section via their website and the other two in person at the ground or club shop.

Some of the people being linked with the job for them include Ray Graydon and Colin Calderwood.

Hopefully they won't have a new manager in place by Saturday, as that would probably give them a big boost.

This should be a reasonably comfortable win for us, but I have visions of us buggering it up and drawing 1-1.

I wouldn't tinker with the side too much after the shambles v Swansea

I'd leave Cuellar , Collins and Gabby out and play Clark at CB with Albrighton, Bannan and Hutton coming in

This is our only chance of silverware so treat the competition with the respect it deserves (unlike Monsieur Houllier last season) and try to win it!

I'll go 0-3 Bent (2) and N'Zogbia

For me:

---------------Guzan
--Hutton-Cuellar-Dunne-Stevens

Albrighton-Gardner-Delph-N'Zogbia

-----------Bent-Gabby

Hutton needs confidence, No better opportunity to look at Stevens than against lower opposition.

Let's see how 442 works with an energetic Midfield, because if Delph and Gardner fulfill their potential we have one he'll of a midfield there.

4.1 Gardner, Bent x3

If we sack the manager just because we're out of both cups and 12th (or whatever it is) in the league, then people are hardly going to be queuing up to take the job on are they.  Nobody half-decent anyway.

1-3 win I reckon, Bent will get two and Gabby the other one.

Must admit I'm really surprised Bristol are struggling this season, thought they'd be one of the favourites to win the league as Buckle did a good job at Torquay last season getting to the play off final and for that level they signed some good strikers like Scott McGleish and Zebroski.

They have got one tricky wide player we need to keep an eye on, Mustapha Carayol.

In the lead up to tomorrow's third round FA Cup clash against Aston Villa staff at the Memorial Stadium have been working hard to protect the pitch from the elements.

On Monday the MacLeod Cover System was put in place to help keep the pitch covered during the heavy rain.

Bristol has also been buffetted by strong winds, but the covers were able to be inflated for periods to help the ground dry out.

A team from Sports & Stadia Services arrived at the Memorial Stadium on Monday to put the cover in place and it will be taken down this afternoon.

The Memorial Ground....... sorry, Stadium pitch has some bare patches so it'll be classic FA Cup conditions

Also, there'll be a minutes silence prior to the game due to the passing of former Rovers Chairman, Denis Dunford.

He was at the helm during the period when I was going to a dozen or so Rovers games each season.

Where do you recommend for a tot?

Depends on how you're getting there.

Also, I've never had to go looking for an "away" pub at Rovers, so I'm not sure which pubs welcome visiting fans.

From Rovers' OS
Quote
PUBS

There are many, many pubs along Gloucester Road and its surrounding areas that declare themselves as "football friendly zones" on Saturday afternoons and weekday evenings. The Wellington is always very busy and often sees crowds of supporters standing outside drinking when the weather isn't too bad. Other pubs include The Anchor, The Foresters and The Ashley Arms. As an area of the city that is popular with students, there is no shortage of pubs in all directions.

If it rains we're gonna get soaked and be miserable. The MG is one of the coldest places I've watched football (its not quite as bad as Cinderford, but it's close)

Meanwhile........ word on the Rovers' forums is that they'll be appointing a new manager today; to take over after the Villa game

It's going to be cold, maybe rainy, the surface won't be up to much, and we'll be playing a lower leagues team with nothing to lose. At the very least, we must be prepared to put in a decent shift, to battle and fight, as it'll probably come down to that.

So long as we give 100 percent effort on this one, we'll be fine.

Now that sounds like a proper cup tie and is precisely the reason why the FA Cup remains the best cup competition in the world

2-0 to us, but we'll only score in the 2nd half after a resolute defensive 1st half display from The Gasheads.

---------------Guzan----------------
--Hutton-Collins-Dunne-Baker--
-Marc-Petrov-Bannan-N'Zogbia-
----------Ireland--------------------
--------------Weimann-------------

Subs - Marshall, Warnock, Delph, Gardner, Delfouneso, Bent & Agbonlahor

Think we will see Heskey, Warnock, Delph and Delfouneso starting ahead of Ireland, Baker, Petrov & Weimann though.

4-1 Villa anyway. We'll lose 2-1 in the 4th round.

In fairness DC5, I think some people pick us to lose as they think they are "tempting fate" by picking us to win. Doesn't necessarily mean they think we'll lose let alone want us to lose. I agree there are some loonies who seem to enjoy being miserable. But Gregnash and BlackCountryVillain don't go to games so we're unlikely to bump into them.

Last year they showed Manchester United at home to a non-league team. They've picked the game as it has a "classic cup tie" feel. Lower division side at home to big Premier League club. Take it as a complement not an insult. They wouldn't have picked Bristol Rovers vs Blackburn/Wigan/QPR and that would've been a more likely upset.

Don't get me wrong, i think we'll win the game, but it does sort of have upset feel it. A struggling premier league team whose manager is under a little bit of fire.

I don't think ESPN picked our game due to our free flowing style of football.

I don't agree with the ManU point though. They are reguarly shown regardless of who they are playing, due to a guaranteed high viewing figure.

Good luck to the Villa today. We could do with a good cup run to lighten the mood a little around the club in general.

How people like this BlackCountryVillan, who call themselves Villa supporters and then want us to lose just to satisfy there hatred campaign against the club just because they don't like the manager is beyond belief.

This BCV posts his hate comments on other Villa forums as well and it would appear he is as popular as a dose of the clap.
