Title: Jean Deux?
Post by: TheSandman on January 03, 2012, 04:49:11 PM
Anyone know what the situation with Makoun is?

Last I heard he was back at Villa receiving treatment following an injury. My question is how long is he going to be out and when he gets back to full fitness will he be going back to resume his loan spell in Greece?

Out for the season isn't he?

It's a shame because he is the player we should be playing.

We should be looking to emulate what Swansea have done.

He'd be ideal for a passing style.

I don't think Makoun would get into the Swansea team.

Neither would most of our current players.

I don't think Makoun would get into the Swansea team.

There was nothing he showed us last year that would even justify that.

If I recall all the rumours were about Sessignon, yet we ended up with Makoun.  Good deal, Gerard.

No but he would get into ours if we had their philosophy.

He would have bought Cabaye in the summer.

and to be fair , Sessignon has taken a while to settle .     r.e Makoun , players do need time to settle .

It was a really bad day at the office for us against Swansea. But I'd take us to beat Swansea more often than not if we played them every week. Let's not make that Swansea team out to be that much better than they are. Yes, they are an attractive team to watch and both Rodgers and Martinez have bought players over the years that are technicially sound and play well together. But it was their first away win of the season. If they were that good they would have won more. They caught us on an off night and we made them look a lot better than they are.

And we've seen this movie before. Be it Burnley, Hull, Blackpool etc, there are always teams that come in do really well in their first season. Hull went to the Emirates and won if everyone recalls. They are now playing Championship football after their bubble got popped.

The game the other night was utterly shit. But let's not get too carried away with what happened.

Swansea are one of the best passing teams I've seen down Villa park, add to that one of the tightest defences.

I just wish we still had Houllier in charge, he had a vision and a plan.

So am I right in assuming that when it comes to loan players, we're paying for both Makoun and Jenas to be on the treatment table at Bodymoor Heath?

Don't wanna turn this thread into a Swansea love in,but they've only lost one at home, letting in three or four,I've now lost count of our home defeats.

I think they said Makoun was injured for up to 2 months so im guessing that when he is fit again at the end of this month/midway through feb then he will go back to Greece to finish his loan spell.
Although we are paying Jenas' wages, I do think we are paying Makoun's.  Olympiacos (spelling? ???) are in the same situation as us in regards to paying a loanee's wages.

Jenas must be signing for us permantly then.  I still cant believe we are paying his wages , cant we have corluka instead , mind , he would have be better than Hutton.

I think its a clause in the loan agreement that we have to keep paying him for the length of the deal.  I pretty much doubt we will be signing him permanently.

this club is run like Woolworths was.

In fairness, that's common practise. We have loaned him for a season, he got injured playing for us, so it's only right we fulfill the contract.

The trouble is that this is not the first time that we have made lesser teams look better than they are.

He was injured when the loan started, we should have left him at Spuds then

Swansea played us off the park after about 20 minutes. Because they ran for each other and worked hard and kept possession. We resorted to hoofball far too often as we increasingly panicked. Credit to Swansea they never panicked and looked very slick. A team full of average players playing to their strengths against a team of overrated players having little desire, clue or apparent skill.
Bugger innit?

Back to the thread....Makoun would be ideal in a team IF we played a passing game, as would a good number of our players - Clark, Bannan, Ireland, Stan, Herd, Delph, Gardner, even Dunne.  ONE good passer of the ball won't make us any better. Someone has clearly made the decision not to play a passing/possession game and we are paying for it.

They would have panicked if they had The Schizoid Man at left full back gifting us a goal early doors with a brainless act of breathtaking ineptitude. This would have raised the most pertinent question in their minds: can we afford to pass the ball to anybody else in our half without a major fuckup ensuing?
