Interesting article on Marlon here:
http://t.co/xXpKc7Id
His goal today at Beijing Baxy was his fourth in eight games – a strike rate not too familiar to fans of his former clubs, one suspects. He has had a hand in a lot of the goals scored by R&F in recent weeks too, and his strength has caused opposing defences a number of problems

Good luck to him. Never bad mouthed the club and just got on with it. He was actually surprisingly good for us in his first season and probably warranted more game time than was forthcoming to him. His last season in fairness, there were times we could have done with him as we needed a shake up, but yeah, he'll always be known as one of O Neills clangers. Not good enough, but I'll always remember the goals against Liverpool and Reading.
-
He didn't get much of a run with us, but he did pop up with a few goals when needed, fair play to him.
-
I'm glad to see him doing well.
-
Good to see him being proactive and adventurous in finding a club to take him on.
-
He was shit. Really, really shit.
-
Could trap a ball further than some players can kick it.
Took x amount of millions out of the club over three years for very little return.
But good luck to him.

He was. I'll never forget Mark's reaction to him signing for us.

Quite right. No dewy-eyed revisionism. He was a shockingly bad buy in the first place, but if he was going to work at all (big if) he had to start regularly as he was a confidence player - but he didn't because he was shit.
-
He was rubbish but I really liked him. He was the only player I have ever seen celebrate winning a corner. Good luck to him.
-
Saw his debut in the away friendly in Toronto in July 2007 and couldn't believe how bad his first touch was. I was actually surprised as my abiding memory of him at that point was sitting in the local pub in September 2005 watching him play a blinder for West Ham against us, and scoring a hat-trick by the 49th minute; at that point I left the pub having being wound up the whole game by a West Ham fan - I'd have hit him if I'd stayed any longer!
I'll never forget his celebration after scoring his first goal for us (with his backside) in August 2007 away to Wrexham in the Cup, particularly as we were already 4-0 up when he scored; at least it showed he cared.
-
Good luck to him i guess. To be fair if someone told me i was a premiership footballer and offered to pay me 30k a week i'd have signed the contract in blood. Totally out of his depth but in the grand scale of MON transfer mistakes he barely registers
-
Glad he's fitted in over there. A bull in a China shop?

His signing was the first indication that the era of Lerner and O'Neil would not be everything we hoped it would be. Having said that he seems a decent bloke so good luck to him.
-
We thought we were getting Defoe and we ended up with him. We paid far too much for far too little but at least he gave it his all in any game he played for us.
He's not the worst of MON's purchases is as much praise as I can give him.
-
The first touch of a rapist combined with a head like a 50p piece, never good enough.
Good luck to him, though.
-
Will score more top flight goals than Delfouneso.
You'll see
;)
-
Probably found his level now. Goodluck to him,was never given a chance, but would never would've been good enough for us,another case of millions of wasted cash spent by a previous manager.
-
Nothing will ever convince me that he is a footballer, i'm still convinced he's an employee of Greggs who is taking part in the Faking It tv programme. Hapless painter and decorator Emile Heskey is having problems convincing me he's a footballer too.
-
If they play Villa in a friendly, he will probably score about 9.

28 plays 2 so far.

Quite right. That was the day I realised O'Neill wasn't going to be the manager to get us into the CL.

Will never forget the way he cocked things up againts Spuds at White Hart Lane. Deary me.

Yep, I was there and put the 4-1 to 4-4 scenario down to that substitution.
I always thought that his transfer was a consequence of MON wanting NRC from the Spammers and the clubs not being able to agree on his price; and that Marlene Deadwood was the makeweight. So, £13m for 2 distinctly average footballers. Makes Emule look like a bargain ...

If I were Marlon's agent I would be directing him towards Hollywood. He would be a natural for scary movies.

The BBC has a quick video article on Marlons new career after football here. (https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/football/47982646)
Apparently he is into luxury car fitouts but I'm pretty sure he can also star in any live action Super Mario Brothers movie remake now.

Marlon and his car fitout business was featured on Premier League Review (?) last night.

It was the signings of people like Harewood along with Beye, Sidwell, Reo-Coker, Shorey etc.etc. its a pretty long list, that O'Neill saw fit to spend millions on plus big wages that put us on this horrendous road we have been going down the last 9 years.
O'Neill has alot to answer for and nothing delights me more than his Forest side losing every game they play currently.
-
Completely agree that was part of the problem Kimaster...and wasn't Heskey on ridiculous wages at the time too? The subsequent signing sprees by other managers only added more fuel to the dysfunctional fire.

went to that game at Upton Park where he scored 3 against us. Didnt care at all, as had just come from the Oval after England won the ashes. 2nd most pissed I’ve ever been at the football. (QPR for Hendrie’s debut was first).
-
I always like him when he was at West Ham.
Wouldn't have signed him either but as a cheap back up striker to Carew and Gabby I could understand it. Will always fondly remember that out of nowhere overhead kick v Liverpool and he also scored a few others in big wins in 07/08.
Hardly played the next two seasons.
Edit: Surprised he's still playing btw, we signed him when he was around 27 so fair play.

It just showed the limitation of MON's thinking. What we needed was another top class addition to Carew and Gabby (considering Carew was injury prone) and as a few have said Defoe would've made total sense (Portsmouth signed him in January 2008 so he was available from Spurs at that time).
Or if you're happy with Carew and Gabby as first choice then sign a Benteke type prospect from abroad who can start as a back up and hopefully develop.
Instead we signed Harewood and then Heskey the next season.
Didn't Harewood actually have a really good scoring season for West Ham in the premierr league shortly before we signed him?
Edit: Just seen the OP date posted! Weird thread to bump up from 2011.
