Title: Chant for the manager (or the lack of it)
Post by: Legion on October 16, 2011, 07:36:43 PM
Is this the first time we've not had a song for the boss?

*Insert name here*'s Claret and Blue Army!

I think he'll really have to achieve something before the majority start chanting his name. Because of the Blues thing it is really that simple.

In all honestly the whole atmosphere at Villa Park is shocking nowadays.

Since MON, Carew and Ash Left we seem to have lost all our chants.

The atmos been lost since mons last season imo. It all fellt like a missed opportunity since the wembley season.
A win against boggies will start to change things. A win against manure will be a major turning point

We did sing houlliers claret and blue army, also gerrard give us a wave, mcleish has had nothing, I said to my mate yesterday I much prefer away games as the atmosphere at VP is appalling.

Not that anyone sings his name at away games

Its not surprising really. Even those you don't dislike him for his past associations, are suspicious of his coaching style. I dont suppose he cares and indifference is a whole lot better than hostility.

it's been a sad couple of seasons... when we had Laursen, Mellberg, Young and Carew we had real heroes out on the pitch.

We still have Gabby! Hopefully we'll have him for a good while.

Given some of the posts to this and other threads I think I'll start wearing a black arm band to games.
I was a home and away fan untill Tony Barton was sacked, then I started playing Saturdays so I couldn't get there.
I've been coming for the past couple of seasons now and I can't believe how dead the atmosphere is. You can't say it's because of Houlier or Alex McLeish it's been like it for a few years now.
Even during the 70's when we weren't doing so well I'd come out of VP  with a sore throat through singing, even if we lost the crowd would get behind the team.
If we go a goal down these days you hear a few chanting but it goes so quiet you can hear the players.
Let's quit the moaning and support the team.

Given the managerial merry go round of the last few seasons, probably by the time a chant is sorted out, a new manager will be walking through the door.

the away crowd are still magic. they lead the way but until he strings a few convincing away performances together then he will get what he deserves. Heskey right mid?- stupid stupid team selection.

I think that a manger / player should earn the right to have a song sung for them.

Niether GH nor so far AM have / did anything to deserve a song. Simply because they are the manager they should not automatically have a song.

Earn it and I will sing it

I don't like that Barry Banan song.

Me neither. At Walsall pre-season a song was started that was something like "We've got Albrighton, F*** Downing and Young" (to Sloop John B). I had a horrible feeling that we could end up with a whole collection of songs referencing players who don't play for us anymore. It's probably the only turn of events that would make me want to go back to singing about Blues for the whole game.

He doesn't deserve any chants. Good or bad. He is an inferior to this club. Not worth the effort.

OUT

Call me an stupid if you like, but I'm not convinced a club who have had five different people in charge of the team in little over a year, can't bring in players until January and even then might not be able to do much, should be chanting for a manager to go after two defeats. One to a team that at the moment is scoring goals for fun against pretty much anybody and one to a team with a man advantage for over half the game.

Damo 70, Not just after two defeats, but also after just two wins and that against Blacburn and Wigan. Hardly inspiring stuff to get the ground rocking now is it.

Damo 70, five people in charge in just over year, tells us more about are all knowing football wise men, that now take residence in our boardroom, than anything we could chant.
But just because of that, we show blind faith in a man, that it is becoming all too apparent, is not up to the job, and was not up to the job in the first place and I could not care if he managed the Outer Mongolian 11, previous to us. He has never been good enough for us and never will be, so again the only chant that should be made, and I believe is coming sooner rather than later, is the one stated earlier. Maybe 6th time lucky, for are all wise knowing men in the board room.
