Footage of the last game and last goal we scored in European club football's top competition which I'd never seen before.
Can't believe it's nearly 30 years ago.

Great find. Thanks for sharing.
-
Nice goal from Withey, thanks for posting!
-
Some pitiful defending there!
-
Yep, was in Spink in goal?
-
Were Jesus Jeans the Italian equivalent of Jesus Jones?

Yes, I remember it raining all day and it being pretty lively before, during and after the game. It was all over after the first leg to be honest.
-
Always a dodgy place to go. I remember getting gassed there when we went to see England there.
For our game there, they had two prices for tickets but bundled everyone into the same part as a result of the trouble. They tried to ambush our coach outside the ground but we were too pissed to care.

I listened to WM's commentary of this and my one memory of it is the commentator repeatedly using the phrase "bad ball" to describe our passing attempts.
-
I'd never seen this before either, thanks for posting it. Oh dear, that defending wasn't very good, was it?

Great little video. On paper at least, I don't think we will ever face a team as good as that Juventus line up.
The XI that somehow lost the final that year was Zoff, Gentile, Cabrini, Bonini, Brio, Scirea, Bettega, Tardelli, Rossi, Platini, Boniek.

[ Invalid YouTube link ] for home leg. 2-1 to Juventus. Was there. Can't remember who score. But Juventus look very good on those two clips.

They weren't even the best team we played that year. On the night Moscow Spartak were better.

From a distance of nearly 30 years I'd go along with that. It's just that we didn't expect to beat Juventus (or at least I didn't) whereas after the draw in Moscow we were expected to go through. I remember Cherenkov's winner just as painfully now as I did then.

I remember Moscow passing us to death but us still leading on away goals until that killer late goal. My main memory of Juventus away as a kid was that Gary Shaw magically managed to be playing in Turin at the same time as appearing on A Question Of Sport.

Spartak were so good that night I couldn't begrudge their late goal that knocked us out. We played really well in the first leg in Moscow with Mark Walters scoring a fantastic goal from the corner of the box, but we were comprehensively outplayed at Villa Park.
