West Ham United have confirmed that they still intend to move into the Olympic Stadium under a simplified rental arrangement after ministers and the legacy company scrapped talks over their contentious bid to take over the venue after the Games.

The Department of Culture, Media and Sport is on Tuesday expected to confirm that the ongoing talks over the future of the stadium – awarded to a joint bid from West Ham and Newham Council earlier this year following a bitterly contested battle with Tottenham Hotspur – have collapsed.

Two observations.
1) Why does every major project undertaken in London seem to hit problems either going over budget, taking too long to be build, or not having a proper plan what to do with it long term ? eg. Wembley Stadium, Dome now O2, Olympic stadium.
2) Any business transaction you undertake with the Golds and Sullivan, from purchasing one of their publications in a newsagents to selling them a stadium after an Olympiad, will inevitably end in a mess.

Very good.

West ham have confirmed they are happy to rent the stadium instead and it will be probably suit them better in the long run.

spurs and orient complaining could have held up a sale for years but according to reports on todays news brady is delighted with the outcome which should see the hammers renting from 2014.

So they sell Upton Park for tonnes of dosh then either a) trouser the cash for themselves or b) we have to watch their smarmy mushes/helicopter on sky all day while they have a one time only summer of spend to push for 'their rightful place' in the champions league. Hopefully overseen by 'appy Harry who will then leave in MON style when the money's gone leaving west ham to disappear into obscurity

If they are renting they won't make a penny on matchdays.
Just look at Coventry to see where this will lead.

Slightly alarmed about your 2nd observation, is from personal experience.

You could argue that this grants their wish of getting a Stadium for free, although the loan from Newham to buy it could have been seen as the same.  It was what they though was thier divine right when they were up in Brum too.
It is also quite crafty, because Spurs will not want to lease it, becasue that is how they make all their revenue, from the match day experience.

I am sure that there will be thousands of West Ham fans who will see the move from Upton Park as the last straw and will never go again.

Yes I hope so and that should lead to demise of Gold, Sullivan and Brady.

Stadiums withh running tracks, specially former olympic stadiums, are are nightmare for watching football. I  used to to go and watch Bayern at their former  home and  on a good day you were as close as 50 yards to the nearest touchline and if your ticket was last few rows than about 150 yards!

The former Blues owners strategy to ingratiate themselves with the fans at new club:

1. Get rid of popular characters around the club - Check
2. Get club relegated - Check
3. Sell off best players - Check
4. Promise a new start at brand new stadium, but screw that up - check
5. Allow Karen Brady to come up with the idea of selling WHU wheel nuts in the cub shop - check
(Continue ad nauseum

I hope the whole deal falls through, quite like Upton Park nice little ground and good atmosphere which is hard to come across in this day and age doesn't come across very often
Add that to the fact that its getting a stadium for free and potentially screwing over leyton orient, makes Spammers getting the ground even more annoying

Didn't do Man City any harm though.  Eastlands was one of the main factors for Mansour deciding to invest in them, if they'd still been at Maine Road he probably wouldn't have bothered.  Coventry are different as the fact that you can't polish a stinking dog turd translates easily into any language.

Gold and Sullivan have been bent over, hawking their arses to potential investors since the day they took over.  This will probably be the catalyst for some saft Arab or Yank spunking billions on them.

When Eastlands was built it was always going to be home of Man City.
